Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I took the 25-unit pill for two days and had a very bad reaction to it. Incredible thirst, near-constant urination, upset stomach, and diarrhea, lightheadedness. It did bring down my blood sugar for a few hours, but didn't last long. Can't recommend."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "Been on Jardiance for 7 weeks, cannot satisfy my thirst, always craving a drink. Then pee pee ongoing. Having to get up 3 times in the night for the toilet. Some days feeling lethargic and lightheaded. Plus point is being overweight I have lost 1 stone mainly around my waist in 6 weeks, so a quick fix weight loss for me. I will run with this with my side effects as long as the numbers reduce in levels and weight. The pee pee and waking me up is annoying."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "On this med for about 8 months. A1C numbers have been good. I do drink a lot of water and some coffee and have to urinate every 3 to 4 hours. My only complaint to this point is that I awake between 3 and 4 am every single morning because I have to urinate and cannot fall back to sleep. Keep in mind I drink no fluids after 7 pm, and I am normally asleep by 11. In about a month, the clocks go back, so I could be getting up at 2 am."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "My 3rd week of Jardiance 10 mg. In addition to Metformin & Pioglitazone for the last 10 months. In May 2020, my A1C was 10.7 & morning fasting glucose was 255. I’ve been struggling for 10 months to get my fasting glucose & weight down, nothing was working. I eat well, limited sugar & carbs, no soda, no juice, or fruit, hard cardio exercise daily for 90 minutes, nothing worked, so we added Jardiance. In just 3 weeks, I’m down 10 lbs & my fasting glucose went from 160 to 140. HOWEVER... my frequent urination is surreal! I can go every 15-60 minutes. Early mornings through noon-ish are the worst. Even before my morning 1 cup of coffee & decaf dandelion tea. Walks or bike rides result in several pit stops along the way, which isn’t easy. Is this a temporary situation? I understand the purpose is it’s flushing my liver of unneeded sugars. This is the only bonus to not working for almost 450 days due to Covid. But when I do get back to work, I have no idea how I’ll cope."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on Jardiance (Jardiamet) for about 8 months. It has helped me lose 13 kgs. My sugar levels are higher than they were when I was taking Diamacron, but I’m happy with the weight loss. The main side effect is the need to urinate, sometimes quite an urgent need. Rob (male)"

For Type 2 Diabetes "Started Jardiance in January 2019. HbA1c was 47, which I attribute to a low-carb diet. Anyway, within days, developed a urinary infection. Once cleared, GP recommended to keep taking Jardiance. Later that year, scalp became itchy, red with boils, followed by hair falling out. I’m now left with thin, dry strands. GP and Endo still insisted I continue taking Jardiance. Since March 2022, developed thrush, which has refused to shift. Then, last week, developed another episode of back pain accompanied by frequent urination. Upon arrival at GP’s, urine showed high levels of glucose, no infection, but extremely high ketones. A finger prick test showed blood glucose levels as normal. Frequent urination had dehydrated me. On the advice of GP, I have stopped this med and re-started a low-carb diet. Thrush has cleared up. BS levels are normal. Last HbA1C in September was 50. Fingers crossed it gets lower with a low-carb diet."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I've been feeling good while on Jardiance (Diab type 2). I take 12.5 mg each night. Same as a lot of folks here, I pee much more and am thirsty more often. Dropped the weight pretty much straight away with very little effort. I was taking Diabex before this. I've got to have a glucose test in the next week, so we'll see how it all goes. My son's a nursing student, and this is what he said about it: 'My understanding of it is that the glomerulus, which is the filtration site in the nephron (which is the functional unit of the kidney), is only designed to filter smaller particles. Glucose, however, is really big and shouldn't be filtered into the nephron. That's what I was led to believe. Not sure if that's true or not.' I'll hit my doctor up with this."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I switched to empagliflozin from pioglitazone (swelling in left foot) after two years. Currently, four months on empagliflozin, one UTI, have lost 18 pounds, A1C about the same 7.1, but constant thirst and need to urinate. Seeing pharmacist tomorrow about the possibility of Onglyza, but may stay with empagliflozin due to the side effect of Onglyza being the possibility of pancreatitis."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "Strongly recommend against using this drug. Side effects were substantial: UTI (male), frequent urination with copious output, painful genital/rectal area. Symptoms abated ~3 days after discontinuing the drug. The drug is very expensive, suggest discussing other treatment with the doctor. User beware."
