"I want to preface by saying everyone's body reacts differently to medications. Always ask your doctor for extra information on your medicines and things you should keep in mind. I have endometriosis, and I have tried Sprintec, Depo, and now Nikki. I have woken up at 2:30 am nauseous almost every day for two weeks after starting this pill, and I have vomiting. I know I haven't been on it long, but my doc said she'd try to prescribe me a birth control that makes me less nauseous. I read the entire pamphlet that came with the medicine, and it says you should get your blood tested for high potassium levels. Make sure to stay super hydrated while on this, and you exercise. Those two things have helped me a lot. I'm probably going to switch doctors soon and hopefully get a medication that actually works."

"I had been on Nikki for over a year, and all of a sudden got changed to YAZ. It made me so grateful for Nikki. While Nikki makes me tired and minor mood swings, it doesn’t compare to other birth controls. It kept my acne under control. My periods are short and on time every month. I was switched to YAZ, and I was a mess, huge mood swings, period started a week earlier. I wasn’t myself. Trying to get Nikki back!"

"I’m 41 and have suffered since my first child with cystic acne and PMD. I’m on my 6th month and am feeling amazing. My cystic acne is gone. I have no PMS symptoms, and my period is literally nothing where it was previously heavy clotting and severe cramping. I do take Bupropion for anxiety, and maybe that had something to do with not having the mood swings and emotional side effects others described? I’m so pleased with how these hormones have balanced my body. I won’t change or alter this medication!"

"I used this very successfully a few years ago to control PMDD symptoms; I tried taking it again a few months ago and had a much different experience. I'm 32, and previous use was 25-27 years old, if that matters. I haven't had kids but do have some childhood trauma. The first time I took it was okay-second time... OH MY GOD, THE MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS. Incredibly anxious, paranoid, depressed, suicidal. I had what felt like several mental breakdowns where I couldn't stop hitting myself, crying, shaking, etc. THIS IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOR FOR ME. It almost destroyed my relationship. Everything triggered anxiety and paranoia. Everything. It was a dark pit that I never wanted to go back to. I stopped taking it after 2 months (I figured I just wasn't 'used to it'), but the change in my personality was so obvious my partner noticed immediately that I was no longer taking it. The symptoms I had on Nikki were worse than the PMDD symptoms I used to have. PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS and track your mood if taking this."

"I've been on Nikki for almost 2 months now, and for all the ladies saying that this is the worst birth control ever, I beg to differ. I had nausea for the first week, but it quickly passed. My periods are better, and I don't have cramping. Keep in mind, THIS IS A HORMONE!! It will alter the hormones in your body, and it's not for everyone! Before you decide to switch birth controls, consider Nikki because my periods are so much better, and I'm not pregnant :))"

"I have been on Nikki for a year now. This is my first experience with birth control, and unfortunately, I did not know enough to recognize that this pill is the cause of my symptoms. The worst being that I have been incredibly fatigued and exhausted, no matter how easy I take things or how much sleep I get. I have had difficulty focusing, excessive teeth grinding, mood swings, irritation, very low sex drive, constant headaches, emotional distress, crying, and mild depression. I have been to two doctors who can't find anything wrong with me, and I have had multiple blood draws, with no conclusion. This morning, it occurred to me to research my birth control. I can't believe that I have gone an entire year with these symptoms and not figured it out. I am an incredibly healthy woman. I have a great relationship with my body, and I know when something is off. I feel so terrible that I have put my body through this for so long. I will be discontinuing this BC immediately."

"This pill is terrible! I was originally on Gianvi, then CVS switched me to Loryna. Both of those were wonderful. This month, CVS gave me Nikki. I’ve been on it a week and a half, and I am an angry, anxious mess. I’m noticing that my appetite is increasing, I am extremely tired, my body is sore (I haven’t started a new fitness program or anything like that), and I am uncontrollably mean to everyone. I switched pharmacies and got my beloved Loryna back. If you have any issues with anxiety, minor or not, do not take this pill!"

"My anxiety level has risen drastically in the past few days of taking Nikki. I was on Loryna, which was fine, but the pharmacy gave me Nikki instead recently. It's the only thing that's changed in my life in the past few days, and I'm positive I can attribute my increased anxiety to this pill. It's so bad that I've decided to stop taking it. I've never had to do this with a birth control."

"I've been on Loryna for years, and I fell in love with how well I adjusted with no side effects. THEN CVS switches me to Nikki and promised it was the same exact medicine (yeah right), and that I should have no issues. But what they don't tell you is that the inactive ingredients can fluctuate from brand to brand and have horrid interactions with your body, and let me tell you, Nikki is the pits! The first week I couldn't stop crying, three months in, I'm STILL CRYING! I have broken out in hives, struggle with severe headaches, and constantly endure tender, painful breasts. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the recent two weeks of nonstop bleeding I experienced while not even being scheduled to start my cycle. This was it! I was done. I switched my pharmacy to Walgreens, and I am back on Loryna, and within four hours of taking the first Loryna pill, my bleeding stopped. I wouldn't give this BC (Nikki) to my worst enemy."

"I was taking Gianvi for five years, maybe longer. My pharmacy switched me to Nikki about four months ago, and I have noticed a major change with my body ever since. I have started cramping and spotting two weeks before I am supposed to start. I've also noticed more acne and some major mood swings. I'm glad to see that others are having the same problem as me. Once my current pack is finished, I will be finding another pharmacy that sells Gianvi and switch back to it."

"If you are slim and petite, this is not the drug for you. This drug completely ruined the way I see myself; it made me extremely depressed, gain up to seven pounds in one week, anxious, interrupted my ability to focus, and destroyed my self-confidence. The only plus side is that it keeps your skin clear. The nature of Nikki is not a diuretic; therefore, you do not lose any water weight. While still eating the regular amount of food I consume, I still gained weight from the shift from a different drug. I 100% do not recommend this to anyone and wish I never took it."

"I’m not sure why there are such bad reviews on this. This is my first time using this product, and so far I haven’t gained any weight. If anything, my appetite has changed in ways that I’m not as hungry as I usually am. I had headaches the first few days, but I’m assuming my body just was not used to it. Don’t have any mood changes and sleep fine. My skin has cleared up quickly."

"I’m just trying to inform girls that may be looking to take this birth control. Pros: did help me with my acne, did help with period pains, didn’t gain any weight, was cheap. HOWEVER, there were many bad things about this BCP. My periods weren’t very regulated, my libido was almost 0, the side effects just went on and on. The worst was erratic and depressed moods, which I knew was an issue when I wouldn’t even get up out of bed. My coworker even told me she immediately had to get off it for the same reason. I thought maybe it was just me, but after she told me I knew it wasn't a coincidence. I was reluctant to get off of it because there are some good things about it, but it became too much. Yes, it is different for everyone, but if I could go back and find a better one, I would."

"I first started this pill 6 months ago. It cleared up my acne very quickly. However, continuing the pill, I became very moody and anxious about everything. I have also experienced some weight gain and major cravings, and while I am very active, I found it hard to resist cravings and work out more. I have become very tired, pissed off, and unmotivated. I am in high school, and there is no reason for me to feel any of these symptoms, but it has messed with my hormones terribly. Before BC, I would have up to 5-day-long light periods. Now, I bleed up to a week and a half, heavier than before also. I do not recommend; the only positive factor is clear skin (and not getting pregnant, I guess)."

"This pill was fine at first, but it gave me so much anxiety after about a month. I don’t recommend this to anyone anymore. My depression has become so bad, and the weight gain is out of control. I’ve never had this experience with birth control, so I don’t recommend this to anyone that’s suffering with anxiety already. It is effective in the sense that it will prevent pregnancy, but the effects are ridiculous, so please be safe if you use this!"

"Nikki helped with my acne and was great birth control but had some minor side effects for me. I noticed my crying threshold was much lower (crying at a sad story, movies, etc.). I'm usually not an emotional girl. I also was blushing very easily, almost like 'hot flashes' when I ate something spicy, got hot, or was nervous (very embarrassing when meeting new people). The blushing started to bug me, and since I'm going on interviews soon, I ended up switching pills. I didn't have any weight gain, and it cleared up my hormonal cystic acne in 2-3 months, which has given me a lot of confidence back. I would continue to take it if I wasn't in a big life transition right now, I can't risk blushing on big interviews!"

"Nikki was the worst experience of my life. I was reluctant to go back on birth control as my experience in the past has been negative. I took Nikki for 13 days. On day 9, I had severe heartburn that turned into vomiting, cold sweats, feeling full when I had nothing in my stomach for almost 24 hours. The next day, I was weak, depressed, and had a raging headache. Initially, I thought I’d gotten food poisoning, but the symptoms persisted. I am nauseous all the time, headaches throughout the day, and completely exhausted. I would have one or two bites of light meals and immediately feel sick. Not only that, but my anxiety is through the roof. I’m not normally a very anxious person, but this medication is making me paranoid, mean, and sad. Don’t let your doctor prescribe it. Find something better."

"This is the first birth control I've tried, and I am a fan of it! However, for the first day or two days of taking it, I was in a terrible and irritable mood. Luckily, since then, I have been completely normal. Additionally, some of my acne has cleared up. I have not noticed any weight gain or loss, change in appetite, headaches, etc. I'm very happy with this med and will continue to use it!"

"I started this in February and have noticed so much change in myself. I've gained my weight back that I worked so hard from high school to having my kid getting it off, now it's back. Then finally got boob size to go down, now that's back and tender from taking these again."

"I had the worst experience with this birth control. I have been taking Gianvi for years, which is another generic form of Yaz. I had to switch pharmacies and my new pharmacy doesn't carry Gianvi, so they gave me Nikki instead. I took one pill, and within 12 hours I saw all the side effects. I woke up, and my heart was racing, I was sweating, and I had severe nausea. I would rather pay extra for the name brand Yaz than ever take this again."

"I started taking this pill almost three months ago, and I would say it’s been great other than a few side effects. The first month, I was extremely emotional, and I cried all the time about little things that never would make me cry before. I get headaches more frequently, and I get breast tenderness two weeks before my placebo pills start, which is annoying. I also feel like this pill has made me more exhausted and sore. Other than those little side effects, it’s done its job, my skin looks fabulous, and I haven’t gained any weight on it."

"I’ve been using this birth control for over a year and a half, and I literally love it! It works so well for regulating my period and clearing my acne. I literally used to have pizza face acne and on my back, and I gave it about 2 months, and it just all went away. My skin is so clear now, every now and then I’ll get a bump, but it’s not bad. Also, I used to have 7-10 day periods, and it regulated my period to 4-6 days, and my cramps really aren’t bad. I have a bad period maybe once every 5 months, and it’s just bad cramps. I love this birth control, and I totally recommend it."

"I've been on this birth control for over 6 months. My doctor prescribed this to me, and I looked up the reviews and was terrified. But, everyone is different, so I started taking it anyway, and I am so glad I took the risk! I have no side effects on this birth control - if anything, it got my emotions more under control than they were before. I'm a lot happier on it than I was off of it! I get a consistent period, so I don't ever think I might possibly be pregnant. It does its job by preventing pregnancy, and I'm still sane, and that is all I was hoping for."

"I've been on this birth control, Nikki, for only about 2 weeks. I can already tell the difference in my mood. I'm more irritable now and less of my happy self. I can't even tell when I had my period because I have had heavy bleeding since I started this medication. I am going to finish the pack, but after that, I'm done with this medication. I can't keep buying pads for this heavy bleeding. It's definitely not worth it to me."

"My pharmacy switched me over from Gianvi to Nikki. Since taking Nikki, which has been for about 4 months now, my once clear skin has become a playground for acne. Not only is my skin a problem, but my periods, my horrible cramps have come back, and I never know when it's coming. One of the main reasons for being on birth control is to regulate my cycle and also help with my PMDD. I plan things around when my cycle will be, and with this I have had to miss wax appointments because my period just shows up randomly. Can't forget to add the headaches, nausea, weight gain, blurred vision, and the biggest problem being mood swings and aggression it has caused me. I have found myself becoming increasingly aggressive, and that's not me. Thank goodness I went and saw my doctor last week, and I have now been switched back to Gianvi. I can't wait to feel back to normal again."
