Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine): "This is the first time I took unisom. I'm pregnant and have been having trouble sleeping. I took it the first night and I as asleep within 30 minutes. It was the best sleep I've had in awhile and woke up feeling great but the second night taking it didn't go so well. It didn't make me drowsy one bit. I tried taking a second pill and nothing worked. I'm not sure why it worked the first night for me but not the second. :("

"Used to be on Vicodin but addictive. Decided to go otc with sleep aid 50mg. Worked great. I'll be going down to 25 mg after a week of use until I can just use valerian root. But it does work for me."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine): "I break the 25 MG tbs into THIRDS and take it about an hour before bed. I try to have at least 7 hours for sleeping. More is better. Only feel groggy when my sleep time is less than 7 hours. Love it! I also use the generic versions."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine): "I am 24 years old, I had to stay awake during the nights of the last week due to a university exam. four days after the exam is finished i can not sleep well because my bed time has changed. and i feel so tired during the day. last night at 2:45 am I took one (50 mg) Tab and after 30 - 40 min i slept deeply. At 9:00 am (after 6 hours) I woke up feeling little bit heavy and sleepy, so I went beck to sleep for another 2 hours. After that I woke up feeling fresh and energetic like if i had a good continous sleep through the night."

"I have been using this drug (known in Australia as Restavit). I can only use half a tablet because it is so strong. Last night my girlfriend used it with disastrous consequences. She slept walked and talked the entire night. Several times she apparently awoke only to begin babbling back in her dream state. She was constantly getting up and walking around, turning on lights. She was crying uncontrollably at times for half an hour at a time. This morning she has no recollection of any of it. I will keep using it. She will not."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine): "I'm a 23 yr old with severe anxiety and insomnia and my insomnia has been getting worse over the past few months. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night or fell asleep in less than three hours. Melatonin did nothing for me and Benadryl didn't do much either. I tried unisom last night. I fell asleep much faster than usual- probably took me about 30 minutes. But after 2 1/2 hrs I was awake again. I couldn't fall back to sleep. I tried looking up if I could take another 25mg (I had taken 50mg before I went to sleep) but I couldn't find anything about whether 75mgs total is too much? I'm frustrated because it put me to sleep so quickly, and I slept heavily, but it lasted so short a time that it barely made a difference."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine): "Couldn't sleep last night. Finally at 3 am, I looked in cabinet and found this. I took 2 blue tablets. 30 mins i was asleep. Friend texted at 10 am, woke up and I was extremely groggy, unsteady, heavy eyelids. Just felt weird. I drank a cup of coffee and still groggy. Hours later, i still felt bad. Went back to bed at 2ish. I decided to check out what the heck happened. Looks like I took to much. It did put me to sleep at the expense of my saturday off feeling like crud. Will try 1 next time. 2 was to much for sure."

"First off, I highly recommend taking only half a pill your first time trying this, unless you are used to sedation from other pills. A whole pill is 25mg, but that left me groggy the next day to the point that I was worthless. After a few days of 12.5mg I then "graduated" to 25mg. Hell, I've even tried 50mg before because I built a tolerance to this stuff. This pill used to put me & keep me asleep, but now it doesn't keep me asleep past a few hours, so I only take 1 pill to put me asleep, then take a prescription drug that has a longer half life to keep me asleep. But overall, I like this stuff better than diphenhydramine (benadryl)."

"I took Doxylamine for the first time last night. I have suffered terribly from opioid withdrawal induced insomnia for a long period of time and to sleep I was given Seroquel, which did not help but left me completely "hangovered" in the mornings and had serious side effects. Instead, I tried the OTC Doxylamine and I have slept seven straight hours without nightmares and feel great and wide awake in the morning. I can not generalize after only one experience but would really like to recommend it."

Unisom SleepTabs (doxylamine): "I actually find the gels a lot more successful to falling asleep and waking up alert. It sort of kicks you awake the next morning. The sleep tabs however, make you groggy the next morning. Try the gel caps!"

"I can only encourage everyone to be very careful with this stuff. There's a recent study from the University of Washington that shows how antihistamines and their anticholinergic effects are essentially a potential cause of dementia. They block the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain and body. 800 out of the 3,500 participants in the study developed early-onset dementia!! I've been very successful using good herbal sleep aids. "

"I am taking Restavit to help with long term insomnia. I am very sensitive to drowsy medicines and have got down to taking 1/8 of a tablet with excellent results. Even if I do not feel sleepy when I go to bed once I close my eyes I easily drift off to sleep. It also helps with my stress related anxiety throughout the day. Will be looking at having it compounded to the amount I needed as smallest does available is 25mg which I cut down to eight pieces. Would recommend to those waking up groggy trying to cut down the amount to the minimum needed to sleep."

"I have insomnia to a point where I only get about eight hours of sleep per week. I tried 25 mg of doxylamine succinate with no luck on getting sleep. I guess I just don't get sleepy for anything. I am afraid to take more than directed."

"Physician. Relatively frequent flyer on red-eye flights. 25 mg doxylamine 15 min prior to boarding a red-eye flight cross country or trans-oceanic flights has allowed me to sleep soundly. Works far better than my previous routine of 50 mg diphenhydarmine (benedryl) plus a glass of wine. I recommend this without reservation to any who need to sleep on a flight of this kind. Only down side is that many... including me... will tend to be somewhat sleepy on arrival, and over the next 8 hours after arrival. $12 bought me a life-time supply. This medication seems to me superior in this application to any other prescription or non-prescription medication. Used occasionally on red-eye flights to get some good sleep."

"I have been an insomniac for many years. I started taking 1/2 tab of a 25 MG doxylamine sleep aid and it kicks in within 30 min and I sleep a very good 7 hours without side effects. It works very well for me."

"I have had trouble sleeping since I was a child. I've tried the "Z" drugs and the benzodiazepines. Because I have an addiction problem so I am careful not to ask for them, so my Dr. doesn't think I'm taking inappropriately (and because they are addictive). So I tried the doxylamine (Unisom). The first pill, 25 mg didn't do much so I took a second and I slept wonderfully. But the second time I took 50mg I woke up in the kitchen. They make me sleep walk, and sometimes I sort of hallucinate right after I wake up from sleep walking. I think maybe there might be a drug interaction of some sort. So, its a helpful sleep aid, but I would take it with caution or ask your doctor if you take it with other psychoactive medications."

"My OB recommended this for my insomnia/racing thoughts at night in pregnancy. Took 25 mg and was out w/in 30 minutes and tired the next day. Cut down to 1/2 a pill and was much better. Haven't gotten a full nights sleep in 6 months and was losing my mind, it completely fixed that. I will say that if I don't drink lots of water with it I get terrible headaches but as long as I stay hydrated and give myself 8 hours to sleep I am ready and wake up right away with my alarm in the best mood I've had since the pregnancy started."

"Using the drugstore chain's own brand of doxylamine succinate. I am a 79-year-old woman, with a long history of insomnia. I have tried other remedies, but find this the most effective, with virtually no adverse side effects. I have discovered that half a tablet is sufficient to give me a good, solid eight hours of sleep, with any slight grogginess disappearing very quickly in the morning. I don't take it every night because of concerns about dependency, so it usually amounts to not more than 2 or 3 nights a week. Enthusiastically recommended."

"I've been taking doxylamine succinate for about 10 years, and it works great, much better than diphenhydramine and other over-the-counter aids, and at a much lower cost than prescription sleep aids. I used to work the graveyard shift for years, and found that when I got a "regular" job, I just couldn't sleep all night. Tried everything, this one's the best. Take a half pill if it makes you feel groggy, but I can shake off the grogginess more easily than I can shake off exhaustion from lack of sleep."

"Diphenhydramine didn't work for me so I tried doxylamine. First night took one 25mg pill and was out within the hour, got a full eight hours but woke up super groggy. The groggiest lasted most of the next day, definitely wasn't worth it. I tried it again two days later with only half a pill. Had the same great sleep with only minimal grogginess. I've continued to take 1/2 a 25mg pill 2-3 times a week when I know sleeping with be a struggle with great results. I'd recommend anyone who experiences the sleep hangover to try a lower dose before writing it off."

"Doxylamine (unisom brand) worked for a month or so. Then, it seemed like it actually prevented me from sleeping ! It happened 3-4 times. So, I stopped taking the drug. I started taking it intermittently 3 months later and generally, it does not let me sleep. Does not work for me."
