"I've been having terrible insomnia these days, and diphenhydramine just puts me in a weird zone where I can't sleep. Took 25 mg of doxylamine at 10 pm and was out by 10:45 pm. Didn't wake up until 2 pm the next day! Feel like I made up for all the sleep I've missed this week!"

"Like many reviews on here, I get mixed results with this med. Sometimes, I only need 1/2 tab, other times, a full tab. Sometimes, I get good sleep right through, other times, not. Sometimes, I have severe grogginess in the morning, other times, not. Sometimes, I have vivid dreams, other times, not. But generally speaking, the med is always more effective than not taking it. It’s well worth a try for anyone who has trouble with sleep, and perhaps far more effective and safer than heavier prescription drugs for sleep."

Doxylamine "For some reason, after taking the 2 tablets, when I get the sensation of impending sleep, I’m jolted out of my “sleepiness” because of what feels like sleep apnea. I would guess this medicine relaxes so much that my breathing changes... horrible feeling. So with that, I got zero sleep!"

"I only need a quarter of a tablet to get to sleep and stay there for about five hours. I do not want to 'get used to it,' so I also try not to use it too often. Lately, I was trialed on a new medication, and I had to use half to get to sleep. It is an antihistamine-type product, so two birds, one stone."

Doxylamine "I started taking Unisom about a month or so ago. I'm restless when trying to go to sleep, so I took 50 mg Unisom the first time. It worked good, but since then, not at all. I've taken the Unisom, then waited a couple of hours and took 10 mg melatonin. Then within an hour, I finally fell asleep. Melatonin alone doesn't work, and the same with Unisom. I would rather not use anything, but at 65 years old, it seems I'm awake more than I sleep at night. Going to talk to the doctor next visit and see what she says since she is the one who recommended the Unisom."

Doxylamine "I've been having problems with going to sleep at night for a while now and saw Unisom advertised on a commercial, so I decided to try something for the first time. I would say it kicked in about an hour after taking it - I still went to bed late, just not as late as usual. I slept the whole night through, but in the mornings, I would be more tired and still in bed until a little after 1 pm. Not a morning person, but I hate getting up that late, after 11 is too late for me, but I still be in bed tired. So that's my only problem!"

Doxylamine "I do not sleep well ever. I needed something to help my body realize it's time for bed, and this Equate Sleep Aid definitely does the job. Does it keep me asleep? No, but it does help me fall asleep. I also wake up the next day feeling pretty good. Sometimes I feel groggy, but after I motivate myself, I feel great."

Doxylamine "Heard about this from a friend. It works well. I usually wake up a few times during the night but slept like a baby when I took one gel tablet. The only thing is that the following day I would be very cranky and had a massive headache. Will not be taking this anymore!"

"Restavit does work! I find it absorbs quicker by taking only one tablet before I eat the first mouthful of dinner, as the later I leave it, the longer it takes to work. E.g., if it's 8 pm, I could feel dozy 15-90 mins after the tablet has been consumed. The hangover feeling is there at times, however, it can make you feel worse if it's closer to that time of month... for ladies."

Doxylamine "I'm pregnant and my doctor recommended I take Unisom and B6 at night for my morning sickness and nausea. When I took it, I easily fell asleep, but I could not sleep through the night, I would wake up at least 3-4 times. I woke up irritable (more than normal for being pregnant), and it also triggered my migraines. Almost every time I took this, I would get really bad headaches."

Doxylamine "I was worried about changing shifts, and melatonin has worked after about 2 years of changed behavior. I decided if I'm going to get up at 4:30 in the morning, I'm going to need to get something heavy to force my body to realize it's bedtime. Since it is summer and bright until 8:30-9 pm, blackout curtains, fans, sleep mask, and me living below two 2nd shift workers, this has been a godsend. It works well for me, but I honestly just need to change my diet around, work out 3 times a week, and then move, but I'm stuck. This works great for now. I take 1/2 pill or I'll never wake up!"

"I had severe insomnia for 6 months after losing my dad suddenly. My doctor put me on different medications, anything from melatonin to temazepam, which had no effect. She said to try Restavit (doxylamine), and if that didn't work, the next thing would have been Stilnox. Finally, it was something that made me sleep the whole night, and if I wake up, I can go straight back to sleep, and I wake up feeling fine. I've been taking it for about 2 months now, and my doctor supports me having it. I take 2 tablets 30 minutes before bed. It really saved me. Not sleeping consecutively has to be the worst feeling!"

Doxylamine "I was finding before I took Sleep Aid from Costco I would fall asleep but could not stay asleep. Now with just one before bedtime (usually 20 to 30 min) I fall asleep, stay asleep, and have incredible dreams. Very vivid, sometimes detailed dreams. The best part is, I wake up, and feel great. Sleep is so important. The only reason I am giving it a 9, instead of 10, sometimes I get a little dizzy if I do have to take a nighttime trip to the BR."

"A half of a tablet gives me 4 hours of sleep. One whole = 8 hours. Rarely do I have any aftereffects like drowsiness unless I was exceptionally tired. I use this very sparingly, all sleep aids can be psychologically habit-forming, even if not physically so. Only if I can't sleep for 3 or more days consecutively, or in periods of extreme stress. Tried many other products, only this one works great for me."

Doxylamine "Boy, did this make me sleep. I never really woke up the day after I took it, but if I can count on this to make me sleep, I am optimistic. A prior reviewer indicates that they do fine with just 1/3 of a pill, so I am going to try half and take it at least an hour before bed."

"Have been taking this med for 4 years since my husband passed, as I was unable to sleep. Started 1/4 tablet, then 1/3 tablet, now 1/2 tablet, and it is starting to become ineffective. I feel it also is affecting my mood - less motivated and a little anxious. Want to stop this med, so I don’t recommend long-term use."

"Need something to help me sleep every night. I was taking diphenhydramine but had a terrible need to move my feet and legs (akathisia or restless legs), and it was maddening. Doc told me doxy doesn’t have this effect, and it’s true. Happy to be on these."

Doxylamine "I bought these Unisom pills yesterday. What a big mistake! It took 10 minutes to hit me from the initial dose, then went to sleep. I had horrific nightmares on it! Woke up extremely groggy and tingly in fingers and stiff neck! I usually don’t take sleeping pills, but this one is bad! I do not recommend!"

Doxylamine "I took 50 mg for sleep and nausea because I'm pregnant. It helped with the nausea, sleep was another story. I felt relaxed 20 minutes after the dose. Then, I got a burst of energy and had a sleepless night. It felt like I drank an energy drink."

"I took 1 (one) 25 mg tablet. I haven't been sleeping well, so I thought I would try this. I did fall asleep within about 30 minutes. I awoke about 6 hours later, and my room was literally spinning. I was so dizzy feeling I could barely get to the bathroom and then back to bed. I fell back to sleep quickly, which for me is unusual. I slept for another 3-4 hours. When I awoke, I was still quite dizzy feeling, but not like when I had woken up previously. That was 5 days ago. I have had dizziness since I took that one pill and have not taken any more. I must be extremely sensitive to this medication. I have also had some nausea this whole time."

"Doxylamine used to work for sleep, but after 6 months, it no longer works. It gives me restless legs for about 4 hours, then finally, after exhaustion, I fall asleep. Wake up feeling anxious and not myself. I have also put on weight when my eating habits have not changed. Would not recommend."

"I take two tablets 2.5 hours before I need to go to bed, by then, I am happy to crawl into bed that otherwise wouldn't be until 2 a.m. I only take it because I have to get up at 5 a.m. for work and want to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. I wake up fine, but can feel groggy, which is no worse than feeling tired after a lack of sleep."

"I must be hypersensitive to this medication, as the first time I took one whole tablet, I couldn't wake up! Slept for about 20 hours. Very scary! No other medication or alcohol involved. Ended up only taking about an eighth of a tablet on weekends or when I wasn't required to wake to an alarm."

"I am a 49-year-old, very active and physically fit woman. I had been having trouble falling asleep several times a week, sometimes from stress, sometimes for no reason. Tried Unisom 25 mg, and within 30 minutes, I always fall asleep and stay asleep for at least 7 hours. No grogginess in the morning, I get up, work out, and go to work. Again, I only use this about 2 or 3 times a week."

Doxylamine "These have saved my sanity. After a rough 2 years that caused me to drink more than I should, my sleep cycles became extremely disrupted. I gave up alcohol, but nothing helped restore my sleep. I am leery of prescription meds due to a history of dependence. Nothing I tried over the counter worked. Benadryl didn't touch me, so I didn't expect much. In the past 2 years, I averaged 2 hours of sleep a night. Because of my experience with nothing working, I took 2 of these the first night. BIG mistake. I slept 13 hours and could hardly stay awake the next day. The last 2 nights, I have taken one and slept 8 hours but still some grogginess. I will try 1/2 tab tonight, but this medicine has given me so much hope for sleeping again."
