"Is memory loss a side effect? I was prescribed doxy for an infection (100 mg twice a day, for three weeks). Everything was okay for a few days, then I started realizing that I'm starting to forget where I'm putting things down, forgot my wallet at shop tills, seriously concerning stuff. Difficulty in concentrating too. I'm not 100% sure how much this has affected me, but it's definitely doing something to my brain. Other problem is sickness if taken on an empty stomach. Everything else was fine, I guess. Anyone else have memory issues on this?"

"Just remember, people, don't let these scary negative reviews deter you from taking this medicine. It is not toxic. It has been around for years and is proven to be very effective. Most people don't leave positive reviews because they don't take the time to do it, me included. What we mostly see are negative reviews. I assure you if everyone was forced to leave a review, they would be overwhelmingly positive. Some side effects might be stomach upset, but that is with all antibiotics. Just take with a little food if that is a concern. It is a lifesaving antibiotic. Listen to your doctor and take your meds!"

"I have been taking 100 mg every 12 hrs for a few days, and at first, it was just headaches and nausea, but now I'm throwing up with the feeling of the flu and the worst aches and pains, not to mention the heartburn! Will not be taking it anymore!"

"I was given this after fighting a sinus infection for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, I am allergic to several antibiotics, including penicillin, Bactrim, amoxicillin, etc. So happy I have doxycycline as an option and even happier that I have had relief after just a couple of doses. I haven't experienced any side effects, so far, so good for me!"

"Well, my experience with this antibiotic was okay. I had a respiratory infection and a UTI. When I started taking the medication, it only took three days, and the results were very fine. I started feeling well, and my chest was clearing fine. The UTI cleared in also. Since then, I have been fine. Well, despite the side effects, it's a good drug!"

"I was prescribed 100's, and for 14 days, I was to take two, with food, not lying down for 30 minutes afterward, and then continue once a day for the next 62 days. I find it provokes nausea, headaches, and indigestion, but is clearing up the skin irritation that was the reason she put me on a strong dose. I suspected bacteria because of other symptoms. My face is just about clear, and sinus situations I have had for a long time have lessened, leading to confirm what I have always suspected: that allergies are caused by a poor immune system. I had not heard until reading these testimonies that you were not to take vitamins, which I have continued to take and may be causing stomach irritation."

"Took it five weeks ago and still having hot and cold flushes, shaking hands, numbness - can't feel my face or hands. I think it should be taken off the market, as no one should go through this, and I am now panicking about how long before I get feelings back, if ever!"

"My doctor prescribed me doxycycline hyclate 100 mg capsules, 10 days for twice a day for an ear infection. The pharmacy gave me blue pills mfg by West-Ward. So far, I have taken the medicine for five days, and I have had a severe headache, sinus pains, sensitivity to light, black and blue circles under my eyes, stomach upset, and severe acid reflux. My ear infection doesn't seem to be improved very much, but I feel like the medicine gave me a sinus infection. I am going to try and contact my doctor and see if I can get something different."

"Prescribed this medication for an infection. I'm guessing bacterial. They never told me to source. I hate the side effects. I had to call 911 and poison control because I was scared I was overdosing and having a reaction to it. I need sleep more than anything right now, and I'm scared to fall asleep. I'm okay, but it makes me uncomfortable more than any other antibiotic made me feel. Am I the only one with these side effects?"

"On day 3 of 200 mg a day for 7 days for pneumonia, and I feel like garbage. Definitely a lot of body aches and pains on the first night. Definitely following instructions regarding not lying down, I can't anyways because of my lungs. So far, I've been following the instructions regarding no food within 1 and 2 hours of taking my pill, but I've been puking this morning for the first time. Will try with a bit of crackers or toast to see if that helps. I'm annoyed because right now I'm not seeing much improvement for my lungs, but the pills make me feel worse. I will try to persevere, but I have a nagging feeling I have an ER visit in my near future."

"I'm reading some of these reviews and am shocked that so many people kept taking this medication after getting sick. I'm not! This is the scariest medication I have ever taken, and I only took 1 pill about 3 hours ago. Right now, I have a pounding headache, my tongue is sore and kind of yellow, and I'm starting to get nauseous. I was given this med by my dentist for a gum infection because I'm allergic to penicillin. I'm not taking any more of this. I'm calling my doctor in the AM to get something else... If I don't have to go to the ER in the middle of the night. Kind of afraid to go to sleep like this."

"Holy gas cramps. Hold on to your hats. Have sinusitis and on day 2, and I am miserable. Trapped gas cramps so intense I can barely stand. Took this doxycycline as directed with food and water, and I am clutching my stomach, which sounds like a demogorgon. Straight up not having a good time."

"After the second day of taking doxycycline, I started feeling sick, however, I haven't been sick as of yet. I still have 3 more days of pills to take. My esophagus feels painful, and I get random urges of wanting to be sick throughout the day (nothing comes up, however), and it is painful to swallow food (feels as if it is getting stuck in my throat)."

"I was given Doxy for a sinus infection, and I immediately felt terrible. I had horrible watery diarrhea, headaches, and neck pain. I couldn’t sleep and was dizzy, lightheaded, and the worst was I was incredibly irritable and had a short fuse. I wouldn’t recommend this medicine to anyone."

"I started this medicine, and within the first day, I thought, man, I feel so good! It was amazing the first few days (minus the diarrhea, but I understood this as a side effect. I was given Flagyl to ease with this). Fast forward to day five, and I woke up with a stiff neck. It was hard for me to swallow or get any food down. I had a sore throat and can't move my neck without any pain. I've stopped the medication, being as I thought it was going to be the end of me. Now I'm waiting for my doctor's office to be opened on Monday to be prescribed something else. It's been 24 hours since I took the last dose, and my stiff neck has subsided, but my sore throat and difficulty swallowing persist."

"10-15 minutes after taking this, I got a really bad stomach ache that caused a hot flash like I was gonna pass out. I got nauseous, then threw up for 5 minutes and dry heaved for another 5. For the rest of the day, I had a headache and felt sick to my stomach. I will never take this drug again!"

"Took this for 10 days for urethritis, and this medication had too many side effects or really did not help me. I had flu-like symptoms, anxiety, depression, nausea, and feeling ill, back pain, chills. I will not be taking this medication again. Thankfully, I am done. Going back to the doctor next month, hoping to get something better."

"Ok, so I took doxycycline for an inner ear infection, and a few days into it, I developed a wheeze, sore throat, dry mouth, and felt like I had the flu. My ear is still not right. Sorry, but I would never take it again. Despite having no common side effects, I just feel like it has raised a war on my immune system."

"I was prescribed this for 1 month to clear up a bacterial infection around my nose, and for the first two weeks, it seemed like it was slowly working. But then on the third week, I developed acne all along my jawline and cheeks, and I've never had acne there before, so that kinda sucked, but I thought I'll continue, it will probably go away. So as I continued this and I am two days away from finishing, the bacterial infection around my nose comes back. So now, a week after finishing my prescribed course, the nose infection, or whatever it is, is as bad as it has ever been, and I have new acne that I didn't have before. So yeah, I kinda don't want to leave the house."

"Starting to wonder if just fighting the infection with the natural immune system would be the better course to take instead of taking this medication. Headache, stiff neck, dizziness, tiredness, heartburn, racing heart, etc. What are doctors trying to pull with this stuff? Seems like patients on chemotherapy feel better than people taking this poison. Can't believe I paid money for this."

"I have been on this medication for about 3 months. I was initially warned about sun exposure, but being from the Midwest and winter was upon us, I was not worried. As the medication was working, I did not want to stop it, and my cruise out of Miami was fast approaching. This is where the side effects of doxycycline kick in and, well, let's just say 30 SPF and 50 SPF sunscreen weren't enough. We purchased 100 SPF, and thank God we did! The tops of my feet got the worst of it. I actually could not sleep one night due to the pain. Imagine someone rubbing hot sauce all over your body and the burn not subsiding. It was intense! We purchased aloe, and I took ibuprofen every six hours or so. I did what I could as it was a tropical getaway only for 5 days. I didn't want to miss anything! It has now been 3 days since my skin has seen the sun, and my feet are still burning a bit. It's getting better, though. I highly recommend this medication, but I also highly recommend 100 SPF sunscreen if you are going into the sun."

"I have chronic sinus infections - can’t take penicillin due to building up a tolerance to it, and I can’t take amoxicillin due to it making me have seizures (thanks epilepsy). I was given doxycycline, and it’s day five, and I’m in so much pain. Yes, it did clear up my sinus infection super quickly, but the nausea and stomach cramps and no appetite is so hard. Honestly, I don’t know if I’m going to make it the six days I have left to finish it."

"Was prescribed this for a sinus infection and had some really bad side effects, such as severe dizziness, nausea, lightheadedness, feeling spacey, and vomiting. I'm very sensitive when it comes to any kind of medication."

"Have been taking for 3 days and was fine until late on the 3rd day, second dose. Extreme abdominal pain and burning, then woke at 4 am with nonstop vomiting, chills, diarrhea. Within 2 hours, I had full-blown flu symptoms and a mild fever. I can't stand up for more than a few seconds without feeling I'll faint, and I've felt incredibly weak. I'm a stay-at-home mother of 2 children and never had to tell my husband to stay home before to help with the kids. I feel worse than I ever have in my life. I'd rather go through labor again than take these horrific pills. The scariest part about this is my symptoms started during a serious flu outbreak, but after reading side effects from others similar to mine, I was more at ease."

"I wanted to share my daughter's experience with this medication as a warning to others. Please do follow the instructions regarding drinking a full glass of water with this Rx and not lying down for at least 30 minutes. My teenage daughter woke up in the night and realized she'd forgotten her evening dose, so took it, then went back to sleep. Later that night, she woke up with severe pain in her throat, and after several trips to doctors, she was diagnosed by an ENT with basically a throat ulcer caused by the medication burning a hole in her esophagus. This was very painful, and she could not eat normally for a week."
