"I told the P.A. that I was on my last pill for Zithromax. She told me that I need to stop taking it and start taking this poisonous ATB (doxycycline). After the first pill, I started experiencing diarrhea, the second time, it got worse that I had to go to the bathroom every 15 mins during the night. I was physically and mentally drained the next day, but forced myself to work. To make matters worse, my respiratory infection exacerbated and developed a hoarse voice. It has been 3 days since I took the 2nd pill and I'm still going to the bathroom every 20 mins. Yesterday I took Lomotil to control the urge for when I was at work. I ate lots of bananas, white rice, etc., but to no avail. Now my anus is so irritated. Whoever prescribed this for bacterial infection should be told they have violated their oath of 'DO NO HARM!'"

"I had terrible sinusitis. My doctor tried me on a range of medication. Nothing worked until she put me on Doxycycline (Prednisone, a nasal spray). It was fantastic! I don't recall having any side effects, but you must take it as directed - with food and a large glass of water, and keep out of sunlight, etc."

"I started taking doxycycline for sinus infections because of other drug allergies, such as penicillin, sulfa, and Cipro. I take it between breakfast and lunch and then between lunch and supper. I sit up after taking it and have no problems with this drug. Thank God I have something to take, and my head feels better after the first dose. Hopefully, I will not develop any allergies to this. I have taken this three times, 10 days at a time, now over the last three years with no problems."

"Prescribed 100mg 2x a day for 14 days for a skin infection. It is so important that you drink lots of water and do not lie down within 30 minutes of taking this medicine to prevent ulcers in the esophagus. I followed this and had no issues whatsoever. On the 7th day, I had slight nausea, take with food. Also, I wanted to mention I did experience chest tightness/shortness of breath from days 3 to 12. It stopped 24 hours after my last dose...Prilosec helped. Recommend taking a probiotic once a day to prevent any stomach issues, including diarrhea. Works great for me."

"My doctor prescribed me this doxycycline antibiotic orally, 100 mg for MRSA after the first two antibiotics failed (some sort of penicillins). The doxycycline has managed to fade the MRSA boils but not completely eradicate the infection. The side effects are by far the worst I’ve ever experienced from any other drug I’ve taken. From dizziness, nausea, and the worst of all, the pressure it causes in your head. My whole 10 days on this drug have consisted of being in bed or lying on my couch with anxiety from side effects. I wouldn’t recommend this drug to my worst enemy."

"Doctor prescribed doxy for sinus infection. After 3 days, I am experiencing huge headaches, stomach pain, and muscle pains. Am stopping this medication now. The pain it is causing me isn’t worth taking any more."

"I have been on doxycycline for 4 days, in conjunction with an expectorant, for a sinus infection. The script is for 10 days. I have followed 'how to use this medication' received from the pharmacy, including drinking non-caffeinated drinks, and have had no negative interaction with this medication. As a matter of fact, my symptoms broke today, but as with any medication, even though I am feeling better, I will complete the 10-day round of this antibiotic. I am allergic to penicillin and diagnosed with epilepsy, and find this antibiotic one of the best I have taken, and have not had any medication interactions. In addition to medication, rest and plenty of fluid assist in recovery."

"I had minor surgery and developed cellulitis, and was put on doxycycline. It made some immediate improvement in the pain and swelling. The culture came back as MRSA. Ten days of doxycycline was extended for two more weeks, but after five days, with the infection not completely gone, I switched to vancomycin infusions for twenty-five days until I was considered healed. The problem wasn't the medication, rather, it was the lousy suturing with internal stitches that started emerging through the wound for weeks, keeping the infection deep in my thigh. Then I got a bad cold or flu with a terrible sinus infection, so I started taking the remaining doxycycline. I don't think I've taken it for sinus before, but I felt better right away and had no real side effects. Great!"

"I had a bacterial infection, Ureaplasma Urealyticum, and was definitely hesitant to take this doxycycline pill due to the nasty reviews. The first time I took this medication, it was terrible, but that was because I took it on an empty stomach. It takes about 30 minutes to kick in, and if you haven't eaten, it will be miserable, but once I ate 30 minutes prior to taking each pill, I didn't experience any nausea or vomiting."

"I have been taking this medicine for a week. Took two straight away with food. Then one a day after with food. I've had no problems until today, my sixth day. I woke late, took the tablet with only a cup of coffee. About 20 mins later, felt unwell with a slight stomach ache and felt chills all over my body. Felt bloated and sick, so quickly got something to eat. And within an hour, felt better. Do not take this on an empty stomach. Last day tomorrow. It's a good antibiotic... got rid of my upper respiratory infection and tooth infection..."

"Finished a 14(!) day course awhile back for a MRSA boil. Got another bad boil weeks later (now trying Septra/Bactrim). I didn’t have any notable side effects; perhaps because I reduced refined sugar intake to near zero, drank lots of water, probiotics (not at the same time), and got plenty of rest punctuated with some exercise. Why so many bad reviews? I guess only problems motivate a review. A vast majority of users do fine. You may feel crummy on it for a few days as your body eliminates dead bacteria. It’s ‘germ warfare’! Hope this helps."

"This antibiotic works well for me, but side effects stink. Took it for a bacterial infection. I was advised to take it on an empty stomach, but within 30 mins, I get super nauseous and dizzy. Started eating a small amount of food before and after and feel less nauseous. I prepare myself to be miserable for a couple of hours in the morning after taking it and then take my second dose before bed, so I can sleep it off."

"Well, where do I begin? I started taking tablets and had to take 2 straight away. I felt terrible pins and needles everywhere, chest tightness, felt sick, neck pain, and can't sleep. If people reckon these tablets are good, think again. I'd sooner have a sinus infection than take these. If you have too many of them, it can be dangerous. Good luck to anyone who is taking these at the moment. I just hope I will feel better soon."

"I have a bad sinus infection, so I called my doc, whom I see weekly because of my BP, and they gave me this. Within 20 minutes of my first dose, the sinus pressure became beyond extreme, I became dizzy, extremely hot, sweaty (it’s cold where I live), and I blared my air conditioner, and I got so nauseous I puked. Now, after vomiting, it’s still intense, and I had to take a migraine pill and an anti-nausea pill. If you have a sinus infection, stick with the Amoxicillin clav. This pill IS AWFUL."

"I took this medication for 4 days and had severe side effects. It started out with a stomach ache, nausea, diarrhea, then I felt like I had the worst case of the flu. Body aches, chills, low-grade fever, dizziness, weakness, sore skin. Plus, the infection I was taking it for only got worse. It's been 4 days since I stopped taking it, and I still feel horrible."

"I was on doxycycline 100 mg, 2x daily for 7 days. I thought I was dying after 5 pills. I had been sick for over a week, and the urgent care NP thought I should take this. I actually asked for amoxicillin, and she refused. I had taken 3 doses and felt my heart race and dizzy. I called in to the urgent care but could not speak directly to her. The receptionist said I could stop taking it, but she wasn’t convinced it was from the doxy. So I thought I’d push through. After dose 5, I left work at noon and went straight to my family doctor, I thought I was dying. I had watery diarrhea exploding from me. Ten times before noon! I was severely dizzy, I couldn’t even think about eating. I had cold sweats and a weird headache. I felt like my brain was swelling! My vision seemed bowed, that’s the only way I can explain it. I couldn’t see anything straight. He told me doxy is a horrible antibiotic, the side effects are too common and severe. He doesn’t prescribe."

"Been on doxycycline for a severe sinus infection I got in early October. Got it on Monday, took it, felt kind of achy, nothing too serious. It's now Friday. I've been out of work since Wednesday, migraine, throwing up, fever, chills, horrible aches and pains. I've never felt so bad on an antibiotic. Stopping today and calling the doctor."

"I wound up in the ER because I was barely conscious and couldn’t move my body. Prior to this, I had been feeling pain in my left arm and in my neck. Felt wired and couldn’t sleep. Nausea, lightheadedness, confusion. Within minutes, I was unable to raise my arms and was losing consciousness. Extreme pain in both arms and the tingling was moving to my legs, feet, and upper body. Felt tingling in my tongue and my lips felt like they were getting big. Felt like I had trouble breathing. Extreme pain in arms. Was hallucinating. Even had trouble speaking for a few seconds. Hospital did all kinds of tests and all were negative. I told them I thought I was having a reaction. My thoughts about this were dismissed and I was released. I was told to keep taking the doxy. I didn’t take it for 26 hours and the arm pain went away. Took another dose and many symptoms returned. It’s a reaction to the med."

"After trying amoxicillin for 2 weeks with no success for a severe sinus infection, I was changed to doxycycline 100 mcg twice daily. Just starting out on the dose, no real problems to report so far. Chemist advised an 8-hour gap between doses and can take ibuprofen with this to reduce inflammation."

"Day 4 of this medication. Taking it for a sinus infection. Sinus pain and pressure are gone. I have now developed congestion in my lungs, and it hurts to breathe. My stomach is irritated, and my mouth and gums are raw. It has become difficult to drink or eat. Taking with Mucinex as prescribed. I feel worse."

"It works, but gave me bad, bad nausea to the point that I threw up afterwards. I had to take it with some food because of how bad it would irritate my stomach. But other than that, it worked fine for my infection."

"Several hours after my first dose, I started having bad tendon pain in my shoulder and bicep area, as well as a dull pain behind my right eye when looking any direction other than straight. After my second dose, I began feeling mentally disconnected, and later that night, after my second dose, my lips, tongue, and throat began swelling. I was taken to the ER and was given an antihistamine shot along with steroids and Pepcid. The doctor told me not to take doxycycline ever again. This drug may work for a lot of people, but be careful and watch out for allergic reactions."

"I took two pills. The second pill seemed to have been stuck in my chest about three hours after I took it. I had heartburn like I had never, ever had before. Then started nausea and vomiting for about 24 hours. Went to the ER, they said my esophagus was swollen and inflamed and gave me meds. Two days later, went to a digestive doctor, he said that pill is common for this. It has caused people to go through the same thing. It has been almost a week, with two visits to the ER and now an appointment set up to see an esophagus specialist. I am finally getting better. Hopefully this nightmare will be over soon. Just be cautious, this has been a bad experience for me."

"I had an ear infection and was prescribed this medication, doxycycline. The first day was fine, but then I developed severe pressure in my head to the point where I had to switch medications. I would NOT recommend this drug and a warning to people: this medication can cause high blood pressure in the brain. Terrible drug. Terrible. Hence the score of a 1. I would have rated it a zero. I know if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all, but this is a warning for people that this can happen and I wouldn't want anyone to go through this."
