Diltiazem for Atrial Fibrillation "I was on Cartia XT when they discontinued it. It is the only drug that works for me. There was no warning from CVS either. I went into fibrillation. The doctor put me on four different drugs after that, none of which worked. One was too hard and large to swallow, one had food dye and I am allergic, and one made my head ring terribly. Another one is on the way, but it is twice a day. Since I also have fibromyalgia, I have to be extra careful."

Diltiazem for Supraventricular Tachycardia "I am currently taking Cartia XT 120 mg once a day, and it is a mixed bag for me. I am still experiencing an elevated HR multiple times per day and very lightheaded all day long. I do not feel right at all. I have also tried metoprolol and lisinopril, having the best results from the latter, but it did not address my HR."

Diltiazem for Supraventricular Tachycardia "I took Cartia XT 120 mg once a day for thousands of PACs and PSVT. Cartia is mild, with few side effects, but good results. I took (Teva brand) Diltiazem EX 120 mg and had problems. I found out when I took leftover Cartia's that the problem is the Teva brand doesn't work as well for me."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "I take this medication at 120 mg for heart tachycardia. I went into the ER with 165 bpms 3 years ago, and honestly, I thought I was going to die. Uncontrolled blood pressure and anxiety and abuse of energy drinks. Please don't be a victim of energy drinks like me. Well, the doctor put me on this for the past 4 years, and my palpitations have gone from every week to every 6 months. Excellent medication and also makes you relax."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I think this slows my heart rate down too much and causes the extra beats to be thrown in. I've found that when I'm at rest is when I have the issues. I've gotten a second opinion and was switched to metoprolol. We'll see if that works better."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I have been taking diltiazem for at least 12 years at different dosages. I am now at 360 mg. It has worked wonders for my Afib and blood pressure. I always take it at night because it makes me tired. My brother started taking it, and it has really helped lower his blood pressure."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I've been taking 180 mg timed-release diltiazem capsules for two years after my 95%-effective catheter ablation for atrial flutter. I still get mild and transient afibs most mornings at 5 a.m. or so. They stop after ten minutes or when I sit up or get up to use the restroom. I think the vagus nerve responds to bladder pressure and sends a wrong signal to the heart to act up. I'm on low dosage by preference. Perhaps I'll ask for a higher dosage if the transient episodes start to last longer or feel more severe. I can barely feel the 'quivering' sensation that afib causes in my chest, so I am happy for now."

For High Blood Pressure "I took this drug diltiazem for about 10 days, it was working well until day 6, when it started to tighten my stomach and cause a feeling of bloating and constipation. Just in time for a 4-hour plane flight too! Not comfortable. I had to quit taking it due to this feeling, I've had 5 stomach surgeries due to ruptured appendix complications, so being bloated and constipated isn't especially fun for me. Too bad since the drug otherwise was working well, I had improved energy and could stay awake longer than with the beta blocker I had been on, and my sex drive had returned also! So quitting it was disappointing, I have so many bad side effects from many of these BP drugs. So back on the Bisoprolol I go, even though I feel like a 90-year-old man on it and basically castrated! May get my doc to prescribe Diovan for me next month, unless he has a remedy for this stomach tightness/bloating that diltiazem had given me."

Diltiazem for Heart Failure "I was told I have a-fib, but I only felt the bad ones. When they hit, it scares me, but in the hospital with a 33-hour AFIB mode, it stopped when they gave me Cardizem. Now I only get mild, very short attacks that I can feel. So soon, in 3 weeks, I'm asking for a higher dose. It lets me live a normal life at age 77."

Diltiazem for Atrial Flutter "I have been diagnosed for 3 years with tachycardia, and the doctor does not know why I have such a high heart rate. Was put on this medicine. Still, at rest, my heart rate is over 100. Yesterday, he upped the dosage from 180 to 240 mg. I'm so tired of having this problem and taking this medicine."

For High Blood Pressure "I had an attack of tachycardia that was caused by eating apricot seeds. Taken to the hospital and treated for 125-135 heart and feeling like I was shaking and panicking. They prescribed Metoprolol and sent me home after treatment. I felt fine the next day and then had a rapid heart rate again and had a flash of anxiety. I took the Metoprolol and tried to get in to see my Army doctors. After a 10-day wait and being extremely anxious and a nervous wreck, I got to see my doctor. He took me off Metoprolol and gave me Diltiazem, no blood tests, no other testing. The Diltiazem makes me feel foggy, dizzy, and at first chest tightness and palpitations. I'm desperately working out to lose weight and get off this drug."

For Atrial Flutter "Diltiazem was started due to difficulty tolerating flushing of the neck, chest, and groin with amlodipine. It has been effective at controlling palpitations, but this improvement was not noted immediately after starting the medication. It seemed to take over a week after switching from amlodipine to diltiazem before relief from palpitations was noted. Please note! If you take thyroid hormone replacement, be aware to avoid taking diltiazem at the same time as thyroid medicine. My thyroid labs (TSH) have been steadily increasing over the last 6 months (revealing that my dose of Synthroid has not been adequate) until it was discovered this week that this unwanted change in thyroid labs has been caused by taking diltiazem daily at the same time as Synthroid."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on Adizem-XL 200 mg but didn't control blood pressure, also on perindopril erbumine and flecainide but didn't have problems apart from blood pressure going up. Put on Adizem-XL 240 mg and now have gingivitis, it's horrible, and the BP consultant recognized it but said Adizem-XL didn't cause it. That is the only thing that changed, and the dentist has x-rayed my teeth and I always have regular checks, no sign of problems. Just very sore, inflamed gums that bleed when I brush my teeth, and very tired, enlarged neck glands, and dizzy. I'm very fed up with the lack of concern, I have no confidence."

For Atrial Fibrillation "The cardiologist prescribed 120 mg from the hospital. It definitely helps to calm my heart down when my heart rate is high, but the dose is too high and knocks me out for around 16 hours. So I tried an experiment, I opened up a capsule and only used half. I take it an hour before bedtime, which gives me a great night's sleep. Usually, I have to take a prescription sleep medication to sleep. If I take it during the day, it takes away all my energy. I can't function or it makes me go to sleep. This is a warning to anyone on this medication, for some people, it may not have any effect on them."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Diltiazem 300 mg increased to 360 mg. Extreme breathlessness when doing anything physical. Two cardioversions for Afib. Didn't work. BP lower. Oxygen levels around 90 to 92. Why am I so breathless? Have only taken for 4 days."

Diltiazem for Supraventricular Tachycardia "I have had SVTs for about 18 years and was switched from Calan SR to this drug. I had no issues for about 4 years until recently when I was told that Cartia had been discontinued. Now I am on Diltiazem for 3 months and have already had 2 episodes in a month. I am going to try my hardest to get back on Cartia."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "I started with 240 mg Diltiazem ER for a week, caused my heart to beat at an even 60 bpm pace, but it beat strong so I could feel it lying down, making falling asleep a real problem. After a week, I told the doctor, and he lowered me to 120 mg Diltiazem ER, and after a week I feel my pulse is starting to relax more and feel it less finally. I also take 10 mg Lisinopril for now since it can take a while (2-4 weeks) for Diltiazem to lower my blood pressure. Now it is steady 120s/70s - low 130s/mid-high 70s. Sometimes I take another 10 mg of Lisinopril after 12 hours if it's pushing close to 140/80s. It has been a real struggle because I am on my second rotation of steroids and antibiotics for a bacteria. Sinus infection I am trying to push through. Diltiazem is doing wonders for my SVT. My heart rate has never been over 120 since taking it. Just not sure why he started me on 240 mg instead of 120 from the start, which caused me problems. Overall, no other symptoms."

For Atrial Flutter "I've been on a low dose of diltiazem for about 5 years, and it was working. Then I recently had some vasospasms, and they upped my dose twice. When I got up to 240 mg, I started having stomach issues, lack of appetite, and, worst of all, unbearable depression. I've always dealt with anxiety, but deep, unbearable depression is not something I've ever had, and I couldn't function. I hope this helps others when working with training the right meds."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "I have taken this for over 18 months. It works great. I have atrial fibrillation and tachycardia. I had previously taken Rythmol for six months - it added 20 pounds to me and I was eating less and less. The diltiazem is working great, started on 120 mg but just recently went to 180 mg. Having a few more episodes but am also dealing with breast health issues - it could very well be from anxiety from this rather than actual heart issues. Very hard to discern. Would recommend this over Rythmol - hands down, and in the last 6 months have lost 10 of the 20 Rythmol put on me."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "Been on Cartia XT for a year, lowered my heart rate but not my blood pressure. Started getting heart palpitations, so the cardiologist put me on a halter monitor for five days. Took me off Cartia and put me on Amlodipine. Heart rate back in normal range, no more palpitations, and better than normal BP."

Husband on the same, (had heart docs in the same office prescribe) and had many problems getting other meds cause there are so many drug interactions... got to find another one."

"Started diltiazem 120 mg for irregular heart rhythm PVCs Saturday morning, did okay with no side effects, woke up Sunday morning and the room was spinning, got up and felt like I was falling. At noon, not as bad but still feel like falling. Didn’t take any more and calling the cardiologist Monday."

For High Blood Pressure "I was taking diltiazem 120. Then I was put on 120 ER; raised my blood pressure and horrible congestion. I had two 120 immediate release left, so I took them. On the 2nd day, I went to my PCP and told her; my BP was great, so we went back to 120 immediate release, and it's about three weeks in; the edema is gone. I had no idea how much fluid I was retaining, and the occasional mouth sores are gone."

Diltiazem for Atrial Flutter "After beta blockers failed to work and made me gain 20 lbs in 90 days. Dr. then tried Verapamil, while that did work better, not 100%. After 6 months, then became allergic to it. Rare side effect. Then Dr. put me on Cartia XT, after a day or two, I felt a lot better. Cartia XT really is controlling my PVCs from left ventricle, 8 months going now and no side effects yet. Works better than Verapamil for me."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "360 mg daily: severe thirst, dry eye, dry mouth, itchy skin. Went to have a second opinion, and that MD put me on 180 mg ER twice daily with no ill effects. I must have been sensitive to an agent within the 360 mg SA compound."
