For Supraventricular Tachycardia "Started 120 mg time-released once a day of diltiazem for mild tachycardia and Raynaud's. 20 minutes after the first pill, I had an extreme migraine for 48 hours. Sinuses extremely dry. Felt lightheaded and agitated. No energy. I had an episode after taking it, so I ended up in the emergency room for high blood pressure. This medication has increased my blood pressure instead of lowering it. Went off of it and ended back 4 days later with high blood pressure, a 116 heart rate, and shaking. Took a pill, and my pressure and heart rate went down. Be careful trying to go off after 2 weeks on it. Waiting to see my doctor for a new medication. Not happy with this medication."

For High Blood Pressure "I was taking 180 mg for 2 weeks and was not getting a decrease in BP. There was really no difference from not taking any meds. I had heart flutters and body aches where I thought I had one of the worst fibromyalgia bouts ever. My doctor doubled my dose. In one week, the body pains/aches worsened, my blood pressure went up, and my heart flutters worsened. It also gave me headaches, and my nails have never grown so fast in my life! On the 1st day off diltiazem, my body aches are already going away, as are the heart flutters. After 3 weeks of unsatisfactory treatment, I would not recommend this drug to anyone. I'm going to Atenolol."

For Atrial Fibrillation "For years (More like forever) I kept getting diagnosed with panic attacks since by the time I would get to the ER the 'episode' had stopped. Last year I had the worst and longest episode I'd ever experienced. By the time I got to the ER my heart rate was still in the 190s. At 41 years old, I finally found out it had been A-Fib the last 20 years. I was prescribed Diltiazem (Cardizem) 60 mg every 6 hrs and I love it! A little bumpy in the beginning. Sensitivity to sunlight and tiredness/dizzy but not bothersome to the point I wanted to stop. After about a week the mild side effects had passed and well, it's just awesome. I highly recommend to help control A-Fib symptoms."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I am 60 years old and started taking diltiazem 240mg about 11/20/2012 along with Xarelto 20mg and Sotalol 80mg twice a day after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. On 12/21/2012, I had an electrocardioversion that did not cure the atrial fibrillation. Today (1/28/2013), I visited my Cardiologist and my pulse is down to the low 60s, my BP is normal and the irregular heartbeat is under control. He said to discontinue the Xarelto, but to continue with the Diltiazem and Sotalol. He is monitoring my heart for the next 24 hours."

Diltiazem for Supraventricular Tachycardia "I have been taking Cartia XT for supraventricular tachycardia for about 5 years. This medication has completely controlled the racing heart that I used to get from time to time. I've had no side effects. A big bonus is that eating ice cream used to trigger the racing heart beat. Now I can eat ice cream."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "I suffered for about a year with constant PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) and was eventually diagnosed with PSVT (paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia) and benign PVCs. I had never had this anytime in my life until I turned 39, and my doctor has mentioned it could be hormonal related. I was prescribed diltiazem 120 mg taken once daily, and within 3 days, my PVCs were barely noticeable. As time continued, it worked even better and also controlled my heart rate. My resting heart rate before the medication was 100 or above, and after taking the medicine, it was around 75. I went in for a 3-month checkup and my BP was high, so the doctor decided to increase the dosage to 180. And boom, I was back to square one. Constant PVCs and fast heart rate in the 100s. After two weeks, I called my doc and she lowered my medication back down again, and I must monitor BP. Hopefully, I can get back on track."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "Hypertension due to uncontrolled intractable pain. Enlarged heart with small mitral valve leak. 30 mg x 2 per day. Worked well for about a month, then extreme GI and eye dryness occurred to the point it changed my vision and affected my receding gum lines. Every one of these hypertension drugs has GI side effects and dryness that will affect your vision. Why can't I have what I really need: pain control? Then I wouldn't need a hypertension drug."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "I developed white spots and sores in my mouth just a few days after starting this medication. I thought it was my partial plate doing it, made five trips to the dentist for adjustments, nothing worked, it just got worse. On an impulse, I researched the side effects of this med, and there you go - white spots and sores in the mouth. The dentist started treating me for thrush, so now I am on steroids and a mouthwash for that. Needless to say, I am no longer taking the med. I was also experiencing fatigue and dizziness."

Diltiazem for Atrial Fibrillation "I was happy with the medication, as I did not have as many side effects, but on day 17 of taking it, I developed a rash on my stomach. Next day chest and lower back, third day neck and face. It was the only thing I was doing differently, so I looked up its side effects. Rash was listed and could occur within 10 to 20 days. It is a Saturday, so as advised online I stopped the medication. I hope this is a temporary condition, and I can begin again, or an alternative can be found."

For High Blood Pressure "Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure: Atrial Fibrillation: Atrial Flutter. I took Diltiazem before surgery and then continued it after for high blood pressure. It worked just fine for a while, although the 12-hour dose only lasted for 4-5 hours in my case. Then I started getting toothaches and really bad gingivitis. I did have gingivitis already. I also started feeling lousy and only by coincidence did I stop taking the Diltiazem. Two days later my toothaches were gone and my gums started clearing up. I still thought it was a coincidence. I restarted Diltiazem again and the same thing happened again."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on Cardizem LA for a little over a month. After a couple of weeks, I began having waves of depression, pounding heart, dizziness, and all of these symptoms worsened. The last week I was on this med, I noticed a white blister in my mouth, which spread and became very sore. Along with that, I had blisters show up on my fingers with peeling skin. I researched other reviews here and figured it had to be the Cardizem. I have stopped taking it and have already noticed a big difference."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "I've been on Diltiazem for decades, beginning with 240 mg. After cardiac ablation a few years ago, my dose was reduced to 180 mg. Over the years, with several prescription plans, I've used virtually every branded and generic version. I can't discern any difference between them. I'm now purchasing this drug mail order, as the cash price is less than the copay from my Part D plan! Diltiazem CD/ER keeps my BP in the normal range, with no noticeable side effects."

Diltiazem for Raynaud's Syndrome "Recently diagnosed. Has helped tremendously on circulation and fatigue. I was amazed that I was able to grab a handful of snow for a short time without triggering an onset of usual numb painful cycle. I started off with 180mg and now on 300mg daily. I now have my thermostat set lower and get hot wearing long sleeves now! I'm a happy camper for the first time in years."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "I'm 40 years old and have had around 10 episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) in my lifetime. My heart rate gets up to around 250 beats per minute each episode. Before taking this medicine, I had to go to the emergency room and get a shot of adenosine to get my heart to slow down. I talked to my doctor about having to go to the emergency room each time because I could do nothing to slow my heart rate on my own. She prescribed me Cardizem 30 mg tablets to take when I have an episode. I take 4 tablets at the onset, and within 10 to 15 minutes, my heart rate subsides. This medication has been a godsend and works great for me."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Was prescribed diltiazem by staff physician in the hospital. After 3 days of use (a Saturday), had such swelling of my throat and could barely swallow any food, so called my cardiologist on Monday and saw him on Tuesday. Was told this drug was a reliable, age-old, successful treatment. Also was encouraged to try again! I could not stand such pain ever again as I am 88 years old and have many autoimmune conditions, including wheat allergy."

For High Blood Pressure "I will give this medication a couple more days, but so far it has been awful for me because of the side effects. I am constantly dizzy/lightheaded and feeling slightly sick to my stomach. As I have a daily 60-mile round-trip commute to and from work, that's scary. It also appears to be affecting my depth perception."

Diltiazem for Supraventricular Tachycardia "I am on 240 mg once a day. Been taking meds since Feb 2011. Works GREAT for treating the heart problem, only I have side effects. A week after starting the medication at the lowest dosage, I developed sinus congestion. Increased my medication after six months, and the congestion continued and now developed sinus drainage down my throat that caused a cough. Medicine was increased again and now the congestion, cough, and wheezing are getting unbearable. I took myself off the medicines, and within 4 days all my symptoms were GONE!"

For High Blood Pressure "Couldn't sleep all night. Had hallucinations, unusual bad dreams, nightmares. But I did feel the chest pressure ease up and the chest pains were gone. I informed my doctor, and he immediately told me to stop the medicine. This was my first time on this pill: Diltiazem ER 120 mg, 1 at bedtime."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I am a 69-year-old male, 6'4", currently about 210 lbs. About six months ago, I experienced afib. When first diagnosed, I was given Metoprolol, and within a few days, I was extremely weak and could hardly breathe. My cardiologist changed to diltiazem, and it was like night and day. I had plenty of energy, and the breathing issues ended. Since being diagnosed with afib, I have stopped drinking alcohol and began a low-carb diet that includes lots of vegetables, protein, and omega-3s. All in all, a pretty healthy diet. I also have lost about 30 lbs in that time period. At my 6-month doctor's check-up prior to meeting with my cardiologist, I commented about discomfort in my breasts and was diagnosed with gynecomastia. Fasting blood sugar 104 to 132. Concerned."

For High Blood Pressure "Got off labetalol as it only made me sleep 20 hours a day. Gave me peeling hives and memory loss. Now taking diltiazem, and I’m calmer and my skin completely cleared up, I can smell foods again. Memory cleared up, have energy, and my libido has come back. Sometimes I have hot flashes, that’s okay. No racing of heart or chest pains. Bathroom problems are normal. Diltiazem has been a miracle, very little bad side effects. Can't believe I waited fifteen years to stop suffering and try other BP meds."

Diltiazem for Supraventricular Tachycardia "Took this medication to help my SVT. Made my heart skip beats, and I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. Worst experience of my life. Never helped lower my heart rate. Lopressor never worked for me either."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Have had intermittent A-Fib for several years, with no needed intervention. Recently began having chest pain and shortness of breath, so went to my cardiologist. Was in continuous A-Fib, so he started me on Cardiazem. Worst side effects I have ever experienced: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, lightheadedness, fell once, profuse sweating, general malaise, just felt horrible. This was after only 3 tablets. No medication changes. Started on Coumadin and had taken this for years without problems. Called Dr. and med stopped. Just now beginning to overcome those dreadful side effects. BUT I do recommend this medication for those who can take it. My sister has been on it for years for A-Fib and has done great, only has rare A-Fib."

For High Blood Pressure "I had been using losartan 75 mg and was getting heart palpitations and feeling lousy. I switched to a different cardiologist, and they recommended diltiazem with a dosage twice a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. My blood pressure had been as high as 170/108 at the doctor's office, but was on average 125/90 at home. I was worried about the side effects but switched and have seen no side effects. In fact, my heart palpitations stopped, and my blood pressure is becoming more regulated. I'm now seeing average readings in the evening of as low as 100/70, with an average now of 120/85. I exercise 30-45 minutes a day and also stopped adding salt to my diet. I also eat less meat and intermittent fast - only eating in a 6-hour time period. I also have no side effects such as swelling, dizziness, or fatigue. I strongly recommend this."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "Diltiazem has been a godsend for me. I have had SVT for 70 years and had always been told there was no remedy for it. Three years ago, my GP prescribed Metoprolol to be used after an attack which worked fairly well for quite a while, but my attacks became more and more frequent and eventually Metoprolol did not help much. Another doctor prescribed Diltiazem, 240 mg, which I started taking on Nov 2, 2023, and which I take every night. I have had only three attacks, which lasted only a couple of minutes. What a change from the hours I used to suffer through on almost a daily basis. I love this drug. I am on a waitlist for Ablation, but if things continue as they are now, I will not have it done. It works perfectly for me and I hope it works as well for others."
