Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "Started this medication over a year ago, and it has helped keep my heartbeat regular. I had an episode where my heart rate was over 200 bpm, and had to go to the ER in an ambulance from my doctor's office. It has not repeated, thank goodness, and I had no side effects from this medication, which I take with Zestril (which I'd been taking for many years before)."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "Had a high blood pressure episode of 200/120. A combination of acute stress, not enough exercise, pre-diabetic, dehydration, and not watching sodium intake. Moderately fit and not overweight. ER gave me metoprolol 100 mg a day and developed an antagonistic/allergic reaction, sending me back to the ER. Started on losartan 25 mg for two days and BP didn't go down as expected. Stress test showed normal everything except for borderline BP and rapid heart rate of 112. Cardiologist put me on 120 mg Cartia XT. Took the first dose last night, BP dropped to 80/60, 77 no symptoms, had water and feet up. Woke up with 100/70, 82 laying down and 110/70, 86 standing up. So far, ringing in the ears, I hear my heart sounds, and dry mouth. It's working so far. I will take it in the morning instead."

For High Blood Pressure "I have used Cartia (diltiazem) for 2 years, and my BP has been WNL (within normal limits). Last month, my Rx was filled with the generic diltiazem, and my BP went through the roof. I asked the pharmacy to refill my Rx with Cartia, and my BP went back to normal within 24 hours, but they can no longer get Cartia from the supplier. The generic diltiazem did not work for me."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "I was diagnosed with SVT about 7 months ago. I was initially put on atenolol but switched over due to it causing weight gain and constipation. The diltiazem has been fine, but I still get a couple of short episodes. Before medication, they used to last 30+ minutes and my heart would race to 200 bpm. Now that I'm on medication, I've had two episodes that lasted 30 seconds at most. Today, I just had an episode that lasted 15 minutes, but it was not as intense as it used to be. I'm considering the ablation, just because it's inconvenient to have this happen while I'm at work. However, I've been told that if I had an episode on diltiazem, I can take another pill to stop it."

For High Blood Pressure "I recently shared my terrible experience with this drug. I also ended up having a huge mouth ulcer, along with blistering and peeling skin on my fingers. When I stopped taking this med, the skin began to improve. This medication should be discontinued."

Diltiazem for Atrial Fibrillation "I use Cartia XT for A-fibrillation. The only problem I ran into was using generics. CVS switched their provider and it did not work as well. 2 days of A-fibrillation and I went on the real deal. What a difference, everything is back to normal."

For Atrial Fibrillation "180 mg is my friend. When I have an AFIB incident, about 4x per year, I double up the med, and I convert soon after. Before I was educated, I ran to the hospital, and they gave me cardia in IV form. No bad side effects at all. Highly recommended."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "Cardizem started taking yesterday, 2-10-2016, making shakes like I have Parkinson's, which I don't have. Did not sleep all night at all. Feel bad, face flushed to the point it was red. Taken 2 doses so far and may not take any more until I talk to the heart doctor that prescribed it. Check blood pressure, it had gone up instead of down. It was 196 over 70."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "I was on Cardizem for many years for HBP but had problems with tiredness. My cardiologist switched me to Tiazac 120 mg and recommended taking it before going to bed. It worked well; however, I have now been put on a blood thinner for AFib and am extremely tired, confused, and listless. Still taking the Cardizem. Have a doctor appointment to see if I can get off the blood thinner. Have tried Pradaxa and am now on Eliquis. Don't like what it has done to my personality and functioning."

Diltiazem "Cardizem has worked very well in dissipating the light-headedness or dizziness I had developed over the past 3-4 years. I thought it was heat exhaustion, but after tests, it turned out to be a spasm in one (or more?) of my heart arteries. I've been on a daily 120 mg dose for 5 months and am now able to exercise vigorously for 2 hours or more on the tennis court or bicycle. The drug worked quickly and quite miraculously, and w/o side effects. I'm interested to see how the longer-term usage works out."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "I've been taking this medication for 3 days now. It does lower my blood pressure, but when I first take it, my blood pressure goes up about 30 points. Gives me terrible anxiety, and I break out into supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). The first day I took it, I had a massive headache. I have terrible constipation as well. Short of breath, and my bones ache, which has never been the case before, ever. I'm afraid to drive because I feel very light-headed and dizzy. I wish there was a better medication for this condition because this does not feel good."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Breakthrough Afib events. At first, had few side effects; after taking med for 3 mo, physical side effects are occurring. E.g., physical feeling of weakness, shaky feeling in arms, a little more clumsy and less strong legs; tire more easily with increased cognitive changes, e.g., difficulty retrieving information, names, etc."

Diltiazem for Atrial Fibrillation "I have had two episodes of lone a-fib, one 15 yrs ago and one six months ago. For the earlier episode, I was placed on Toprol, Digoxin, and Warfarin - it was HORRIBLE, I've never felt so sick in my life. This time, I was placed on 240 mg of Diltiazem and Xarelto. I have been on both for six months, with the only minor issue being a bit of excess gas, a small price to pay to keep the a-fib away."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "Works well for me. I am taking the generic Diltiazem XR from Sun Pharma. I was taking Diltiazem XR 160 mg with Lisinopril, and my BP was meh. I ran out of the Lisinopril, so I doubled up on the Diltiazem until I could get back in to see my doctor. My BP came in really good on the double dose of Diltiazem XR, so the doctor said let's make it permanent and drop the Lisinopril. No appreciable side effects. I guess everyone is different, and some medications work better than others for each individual."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Increases my systolic BP by 20 points. Gives me rapid heart. Doctors say this is not possible. They drive me crazy. I do not make this stuff up. I am very sensitive to many medications. I am going off it again. Was glad to see on here that another patient had increased BP."

Diltiazem for High Blood Pressure "Be prepared for a 'mental health day'. My first 240mg dose wiped me out for a full 24 hours. I was dizzy and just plain off. Sitting to standing was a crash and burn experiment. It passed quickly and since 2nd day was okay."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Have been on generic Cardizem since first bout with afib a month ago. Many side effects like ankle swelling and at waistline, sharp pain stabs in the head, dizziness, blurred vision. Just switched away from generic form and will see if the real deal makes a difference. Taking 120 extended dose one daily. Being hopeful because no sign of afib since that one time!"

For Atrial Fibrillation "This drug tore my arms and legs up, literally. Been off it for five days, and the insane, intense, and painful itching hasn't depreciated. I use a cream (CeraVe anti-itch) to dull the itch, but purple arm with scars and scabs and intense itching are no fun. Never again with this med. CeraVe anti-itching only dulls the itch, and for only an hour."

Diltiazem for Supraventricular Tachycardia "I have been on this medication a couple of years for supraventricular tachycardia and hypertension and have not had one episode of SVT since being on it. I used to get SVT once or twice a month, so this medicine has truly made my life better. The problem I now face is with my insurance company since they are hiking up non-generic co-pays to four times as much as before. Since there is no generic until 2011, I must either forego this medicine and try something else or pay something I can't afford. This is frustrating when I know the medicine works."

For High Blood Pressure "Veins in leg ached, and found where I had past surgery, there was pain in the area. This pill made me very hot for the first few hours, chronic low back pain, legs very heavy, and feet bones very sore. Hands were bright red. I did help the BP, however, I am super sensitive to drugs. This is my number 8 pill tried for my blood pressure."

For High Blood Pressure "I was given Metoprolol Succinate, Eliquis, and Atorvastatin after being admitted to the hospital with a-fib. I am a healthy 42-year-old, non-smoker male. The metoprolol is the worst medicine I have ever taken. I suffered for about two months with horrible side effects. Went back to the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack about a week after starting meds. Stomach pain, dizziness, depression, anxiety, increased BP, shakes, bloated feeling, tiredness, and sharp pains in my chest. After about two months, another cardiologist told me to stop taking the metoprolol and switch to diltiazem ER 120 mg once a day. It took about a week, but all the side effects stopped. I started feeling like a human being again. I had muscle twitches for a week as my body flushed the metoprolol. Diltiazem has been a godsend for me, but obviously not for others. Just listen to your body and tell your doctor if a medicine isn't working."

For High Blood Pressure "Diltiazem ER 120 mg twice a day. I didn't really feel a difference, but more anxious. I also noticed my feet and some of my legs would turn red and feel hot while walking or standing in one spot for a while. When I sit down, it subsided. Discomfort in my head while laying on a pillow. I just got off this medication, so hopefully all that goes away. It works for some and not for others, so I don't bash this medication."

For Atrial Flutter "After my heart began racing several times with a pulse of 180, my doctor put me on diltiazem (135). However, after a couple of months, my heart began racing again, so the doctor upped the diltiazem to 180. I had been experiencing breathing problems and thought it was related to my asthma flaring and a wet winter. Now, with the increased diltiazem, I am having even greater difficulty breathing with pretty severe shortness of breath. I think it is most likely related to the drug. Now seeking medical follow-up."
