"I had episodes since I was 5 years old, and none of the doctors I went to could help me. These episodes would last for 24 hours before I started to feel better. That would drain me mentally and physically. When I was 23, I was told that I had Meniere's disease and needed to start on a low sodium diet, no more than 2500 mg a day. I'm 26 right now. That helped until I started to have episodes three times a week, and that was having a huge impact on my life. My doctor gave me Valium that I take three times a day, and that was a lifesaver in my view. I started taking it over a year ago and no major episodes yet."

"After a car accident, I started having vertigo sometimes and not feeling comfortable driving on hallways and a lot of buzzing in my ear. I went to so many ear doctors for nothing. After a vertigo episode one day, I called my doctor furious and told him to send me to a doctor to solve this problem. I went to an ear doctor that, for the first time, made many tests and concluded I have Meniere's disease. He tried three different treatments that solved the problem for a while, and then he prescribed Valium. It changed my life. With a very little dose for five years, I have never had another episode of vertigo, and the buzzing decreased too. Thanks to this doctor forever."

"I was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease just this month, and my first attack had me thinking I did not want to live this way. My specialist gave me a script for Valium, 2 mg, plus anti-nausea sublingual. I took a Valium tonight, and it stopped my attack in its tracks. I am astounded by this."

"I take 5 mg if I feel anything weird starting (Meniere's symptoms), but I don't take it every day or even every week. I have ER trips about two or three a year. I have been given everything from Phenergan to many anti-vertigos. Diazepam is the only thing that works. Now, there is a shortage, and hospitals might not have it."

Diazepam "Valium worked. But can no longer afford the brand. So, I have to try the generic. Time will tell if it works. The brand cost at this time is $204. The cost for the generic is $30. Insurance will pay for the generic, not Valium. The generic does not work the same."

"I was prescribed 15 mg daily of diazepam 38 years ago for Meniere's disease and it worked. Since originally prescribed, I've managed to reduce down to 7 mg daily. I did this slowly over months. Now I'm being asked by a different doctor's practice to reduce further, though each time I reduce by half mg, I fall over losing my balance. Then I get put back up to 15 mg. I've tried several times and it just repeats. So while I'm at 7 mg daily, I'm okay and no Meniere's attacks, plus never had any side effects in all these years of use. I hope this helps others like myself and hope the doctors don't stop it unless they have a substitute that works in the same manner."

"Since I can’t take NSAIDs and Tylenol doesn’t work, I take 10 mg Valium to stop the pressure headaches that are a result of storms or salt intake. My Ménière’s migraines stopped after I experienced an indirect lightning strike."

"I have had Meniere's disease for 30+ years. I have been on disability for it for 15 years. Meclizine never worked for me. Benadryl caplets were my savior from the vertigo. Then I needed more than one. So he prescribed 5 mg diazepam. Within this last year, I've been experiencing panic attacks. I noticed when I panicked, the symptoms were very much like Meniere's disease. So I took one diazepam & WOW! Thank God & my psychiatrist. So now, when I have vertigo related to either condition, I go for the diazepam. Regarding the person who noted their Atlas was off, I was amazed; because I've often felt my neck was connected to my Meniere's. I am going to check it out."

"I had vertigo episodes that used to evolve into hyperhidrosis, vomiting, and diarrhea, very severe. Now taking one dose of 5 mg of diazepam and 4 mg of ondansetron at the start of an episode, and it stops it from progressing to such severity. I have not had a severe episode in almost a year since starting on diazepam. I carry a dose with me at all times."

"My husband has Meniere's... he was having episodes every three days... totally debilitating. Our doctor ordered beta-histine HCL... 4 mg 3 x a day. He went 6 months without an episode. Then he weaned himself off and took none for a month - he is back to having episodes. Now, he’s convinced that he needs to take the beta-histine if he wants to live a normal life. Beta-histine can be compounded if you find a pharmacy that will do that with a doctor's prescription. The first several doctors he saw weren’t willing to do that, so you have to keep searching to find a doctor to work with you."

"Took 5 milligrams half an hour before going out, more during the day depending on motion, worked (also helped with tinnitus). Could even go to Disneyland, have not had it in a long time. I've just been trapped in the house and my wife just died from DVT here at home. Don't know how much more I can take. Insurance went with my wife of almost 45 years, almost none stopped crying since December 2020 and can't even walk."

"I suffered with the worst vertigo for a couple of years till the doctor gave me Valium. It worked wonders. I was fine as long as I took three 5 mg tablets every day. In the process of switching doctors, I went without all my prescriptions for two months. I've been taking Atarax for my allergies for 17 years, which happens to be the same 17 years I've had Meniere's. I'm 98% convinced my Meniere's is allergy medicine-induced. If I'm wrong, I will HAVE to find a doctor to prescribe Valium."

"In 20 years, it has been the only med that lessens severe or stops my vertigo. I have bilateral and vertigo never stopped. I have tried every alternative herb, motion med to stop. Diazepam works well for me. No side effects, just a hassle to get from docs with new opioid laws."

Diazepam "I've had severe vertigo for 3.5 months. I'm in a nursing home that does not believe some of the best doctors at Yale, so I had 7 days of relief! A neurology appointment at the hospital is in Mar. 2018. I will have vertigo for close to 7 months. Yes, I will be suing the nursing home because Yale will prescribe Valium again, and the rest home will not give it! PS, I'm also a licensed private pilot, and vertigo was a prime study section to obtain your private pilot certificate. Thanks, Jack"

"I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease in May 2021. Since then, I have had neck pain and stiffness, head pressure, as well as tinnitus and clogged ears that pop on and off, except tinnitus, which is constant. Finally gave in and tried the diazepam 5 mg I was prescribed because I don't like taking meds. It was an absolute game changer. While taking it, neck pain and stiffness got better, as well as the other symptoms. So thankful this helped so I can get back to living a normal day."

"I came across this site and wanted to share my experience. I was prescribed 2 mg diazepam as needed over 4 years ago for Meniere's. Yes, it works for vertigo and vomiting, however, the side effects of becoming physically dependent on Valium are far worse. I was caught up in the Valium withdrawal nightmare, which took me a year of tapering to wean off the drug. Keep in mind, I was taking the drug as prescribed by my physician and on a very low dose of 2 mg. Do the research on the risks of taking Valium long-term before going down this awful road."

"I love you, diazepam. Taken only as needed and makes me feel human again. Meniere's is so depressing, I will take any small side effects happily. Had Meniere's for over 25 years."

"My wife suffered from Meniere's for years until a new ENT Dr. suggested betahistine, which worked like a charm. It is not approved by the FDA. I get it from Europe through a Canadian pharmacy. She takes three 8 mg tablets a day. The cost is reasonable, and there have been no interactions with her other meds. Please try it - good luck!"
