Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I have been on Velivet for 2 months now. The first month, I felt nauseous, tender breasts, I gained 10 lbs, and I turned very moody (especially with my boyfriend). My period was very light, and best of all, no cramps. The second month is better, I am still a bit moody."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I experienced a lot of anxiety and sudden depression. I felt unusually withdrawn from myself and others. Be careful if you are mood sensitive to hormones. Please do your research before taking this contraceptive. Desogestrel is known for mood problems and depression by the NIH. I feel GREAT now that I stopped it. I'm going to ask for LO/OVRAL instead."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I started using birth control through the Pill Club and was originally prescribed Cyred EQ, which works wonders for me, but then my orders of it were replaced with Isibloom, which apparently is the generic version. Within days, I started spotting dark blood and noticed other changes. My breasts were so swollen my bras didn’t fit, I experienced horrible headaches and joint pains, I was irritable, moody, and so unbelievably anxious and paranoid. I constantly felt on edge and even had suicidal thoughts. If you have a history of mental illness, DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION. It amplified my anxiety and BPD times 10. Isibloom has been a nightmare."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol "I've been taking Desogen for almost 1 year now. I get it from Planned Parenthood for about 20 dollars. The only side effects I have seen are a slight headache at the onset of my period and sometimes moodiness around that time as well (I guess it is to be expected anyway). Other than that, I do get dark freckles now when out in the sun. They don't seem too bad now, but if it gets worse, I will switch. This is why I changed from my last brand (I think it was Estrostep) because it caused bad facial discoloration whenever I went out in the sun! It looked like I had a mustache for months!"

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I have been on many different birth controls. All of them have caused me to become nauseous, moody, etc. Apri is the first one I've used that I have not experienced any of that with. It has helped regulate my periods and made the cramping less severe. My boobs grew a little, and I didn't gain any weight. The only downside is if you miss a pill, you will bleed a lot and cramp, etc., but I'm pretty sure it's like that with any birth control. Definitely worth trying."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "Has been effective at preventing pregnancy. I've decided to stop taking it due to side effects. The first 2 months, my breasts were extremely tender. I experienced some depression symptoms and mood problems in the first month, which I initially thought went away, but I think I just got used to them. Looking back, I've been WAY more emotional at times (cry at least 2-3 times a week now, used to cry 2-3 times a year) and also fairly flat (don't really get excited about anything anymore). My sex drive has been almost non-existent while on Reclipsen. I used to be keen all the time, and now even extensive foreplay can't really get me going, which makes it pretty pointless to even be on it. Periods are short and light, which I will miss."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "My main reason for using this type of birth control was solely for pregnancy prevention. I've never had any problems with my periods or acne. I've experienced the worst side effects possible. I'm constantly moody and sad, I have heavy long-term periods, a face covered in acne, low sex drive, hair loss, spots on my skin, and sensitivity to most soaps and lotions. I'm overall disappointed with this pill and can't wait to start a new type of contraceptive. Granted, I haven't gotten pregnant, but we use condoms, so it's hard to judge anyway."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "After trying four other types with horrible side effects, Velivet was a welcome improvement. The first month was a bit moody and had spotting, but after that, my very irregular period (weeks off) became regular almost to the hour. I did not gain weight and have minimal decreased appetite. Doesn't seem to have a strong effect on my sex drive either way. Almost entirely cleared up my acne outside of a touch right before I get my period. Horrible cramps that would leave me bedridden are mostly gone. Just have moderate cramps for 24 hours after first getting my period. Period only lasts 3-4 days now, compared to 5-7 before."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I've been using this since I was 13 or 14 because my periods were so irregular, and it has helped tremendously with that. I wasn't sexually active until earlier this year, and I haven't gotten pregnant so far, so that's good! My cramps are manageable and kind of bad sometimes, but I try not to take painkillers. Before I was sexually active, I had little to no cramps, but I guess sex changes your hormones and stuff. I'm not moody until my period comes, which is pretty normal, I think. I feel sad that it has such a poor rating on here, so maybe this will give a little balance. I gave it a 9/10 and not a 10/10 because I now get cramps and a little moody, but it's worked really well for me."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "This has been an awful experience for me. I’m having a polyp removed from my uterus and have to go on birth control for the surgery. I’ve been on it for 2 weeks, and since the start, I’ve had extreme nausea, bad headaches, tired all the time, moody, and trouble sleeping. I just feel awful! I do NOT recommend this particular pill!!!"

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "Absolute worst birth control I've ever been on. Made me moody and have random crying spells, and made me break out SO bad. I've never had a problem with acne, but as soon as I was put on this, it was just pimple after pimple after pimple. I changed it as soon as I could. I would NOT recommend."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "This is absolute rubbish. I have been recently changed from Microgynon to this Desogen just because I am almost 35 and smoking. On this new one, I have headaches daily, muscle pains, apparently I am so moody, and I have blood coming nonstop. (What is the point of taking these pills if I can’t have sex anyway?)"

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I've been on Ortho-Cept for only a week, and I have noticed horrible symptoms. I knew that nausea would be common, but I didn't realize that I would not be able to sleep. I also became moodier than I have ever been in my life. I decided to take the pill to help with my mood and my acne. This was the pill for me. My acne has become more horrible than I have ever experienced in my life. I have acne all over my back and chest now, a place where I had never had acne before. I would become very numb also, and my headaches seem to have turned into migraines! My breasts are very tender also. I know that it has only been one week, but I cannot risk being even more moody than before."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I've been on Apri for over a year. It was recommended by my doctor to slow down my heavy periods. It's done a great job doing so, but now that my periods are under control, I now use Apri for birth control. In the first month, I gained 12 lbs just around my love handles, and my breasts grew a whole cup size bigger. I'm not as interested in sex anymore either, and I'm definitely more sensitive and moody. This pill definitely helped my periods and has kept me from getting pregnant, but does have some side effects."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "Do not recommend... Kariva made my face break out bad, and I never previously had problems with acne. It also made me feel like the Incredible Hulk (imagine severe PMS that lasts all month long). I had to stop taking it. My moods were so severe that I wasn’t even able to finish 1 month on it."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I have taken Apri since February 2009, and I love it! I think I've gotten slightly moodier, but that is the only negative side effect I've had. My boobs have gotten much bigger, and I haven't seen the decrease in sex drive that many others are seeing. It's pretty much the same for me, and I've been on Apri for about 8 or 9 months. As far as periods go, Apri hasn't changed it very much except for the wonderful gift of knowing when it's coming. I've always had short periods (4 days average), and it hasn't changed. Overall, I love Apri."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "This pill is AMAZING! I’ve been on it for about 3 months now and have had no problems except the occasional moodiness and anxiety. I have been losing weight on this pill as well! It makes my periods lighter, and I’ve had no problem with sex drive. I definitely recommend this pill to anyone who is looking for a new birth control."

For Birth Control "Worst birth control I have ever been on in my life. It literally made me turn into a moody b****, and my face is breaking out into cystic acne everywhere! It ruined my skin! :( Now I have to go to a dermatologist to fix my skin. It's so painful, it literally breaks out more and more every time I take it, and I've only been taking it for about 2 weeks! I started getting heartburn, so I decided to look it up, and then I saw all the negative reviews on it and how bad it was. I'm beyond annoyed this is even on the market."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "This is more of an update. Been on this for a full 3 months now, about to go on my 4th. I've always had terrible periods (cramps, heaviness, fatigue, moodiness), so I was hoping the pill could relieve some of those symptoms. So far, I've found all of the pills I've tried so far (Loestrin FE, Junel, Yasmin) haven't done a whole lot to rid of these symptoms. Apri is the same. Although my period is more predictable and more manageable in terms of pain, my 2nd and 3rd day of period is still very heavy, and I still cramp a whole lot on the 2nd day. Made my skin clearer, and no problems of weight gain either. I also am not as moody as I was on Yasmin. And no pregnancies yet, although a couple of scares since this pill can mimic pregnancy symptoms."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I've only been on this medication for a week, and I haven't had any problems at all. I take it at night, and I don't have any nausea or anything like I did with other BC methods. I am sensitive to contraceptives, and on the shot, I gained 30 pounds quickly. On the patch, I threw up only 12 hours after having it on. Other pills made me moody or nauseated. This pill has a low dose of estrogen, and it has been great so far-frankly, I think I have been losing weight. Not sure if that has anything to do with this pill or not, but we will see!"

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "My obgyn tried me on this bc due to heavy periods, and the progestin from my previous bc was harsh on my stomach. My first pack, no issues, but the period was still a bit heavy. Second pack, extremely moody at PMS time, and the period came a day before I got to the sugar pills. At the end of my pack, the period was ending. Started my third pack, and the period came back with a vengeance. The period is coming to an end, but 9-10 days is ridiculous. My periods are usually no more than 7 days, with or without the pill. One good thing is I didn't get pregnant. I will see what happens with one more pack. My obgyn might have to put me on one with a little more estrogen."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "Been on it for 2 weeks now. I don't tolerate anything well, and the first week I was very nauseous, had a few headaches, but nothing I couldn't handle. Now I've noticed that I've gained a pound, probably because it seems my boobs exploded. I was already a D, and now I'm sure I'm at least a DD. Kill me. Other than that, my sex drive is fine, maybe a little lower, but not bad. The one thing that I don't like is I'm super moody, and then I get depressed and want to eat everything. Also, some days I'm so tired and don't want to do anything."

My pharmacy tried to change to Mylan - Ethinyl Estradiol, which made me very moody and anxious. I tried Teva - Kariva and couldn't sleep. I really like Azurette, but hear it's being discontinued."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I was on Marvelon for 10 years until my benefits plan changed, and it only covered generic brands of the birth control pill. When my pharmacist informed me, I questioned him profusely, asking if it was the same Marvelon. While I was on Marvelon for 10 years, I had no side effects and felt great on it. As soon as I started taking Apri, I became moody, irritable, and very, very gassy. It almost felt like I was pregnant. As soon as I started researching Apri vs. Marvelon, I discovered all the poor reviews. I then decided to pay out of pocket to go back on Marvelon the next month because I hated feeling horrible. I went back on Marvelon, but what happened next was a blessing in disguise. I became pregnant with my second. Apri messed up my system."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "Rated a 5 due to its effectiveness at preventing pregnancy, but I stopped taking it after many years of this brand or the same ingredients in different brands because I've finally realized it is the cause of my frequent migraines, terrible moodiness, and anger issues. I stopped taking it to try to conceive and had been off it for about two years. All of those side effects disappeared, at least a great deal. Now I've been back on for 6 months, and all side effects have reappeared. Please, if you are experiencing depression, anger issues, anxiety, or similar issues, don't write it off, it will begin to have a huge effect on your daily life."
