Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I’ve been on Enskyce for almost 2 years now. I have experienced increasingly worse PMS/periods, random spotting or early periods, mood swings, unstable angry/anxious/depressive episodes, and the nausea seems to be every day now to where I just don’t eat until I’m sick for calories. It’s the worst. Eating has no enjoyment anymore. It took me so long to figure out that Enskyce was the cause of my unpredictable moods and horrible stomach pain/PMS. I’ve experienced anxiety/depression beforehand, but I assumed I was just getting worse and worse. I only came across this page while searching for a therapist when I realized my stomach was hurting again 2-5 hours after taking the BC. I then searched the side effects and kept reading the symptoms other women were having. 1/10, and the 1 is because I haven’t gained weight."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I've posted here a few months ago, and it's an update. I'm starting the 4th pack now, and almost everything I was complaining about went away! During the first few months, I've gained around 10 lbs, my boobs became much larger (that was super uncomfortable, because they're large anyways), I felt a little depressed and tired (nothing I couldn't handle though, I've been living my normal life). I couldn't work as hard as I wanted. Now I've lost all the weight I've gained, and I am me again. Feels like magic. Also, my tastes for food changed a bit. Something I loved does not taste good to me anymore, it's strange but fun to experience."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I am taking the second cycle now. In general, I'm happy with my experience so far, and I'll keep taking it. Negative sides. During the first week, I felt sick to my stomach all the time, and I was super tired, but it went away. During the third week, I had mood swings and felt depressed, but I always feel this way a week before my period, so it was normal to me. Also, my boobs became larger, and it's a little painful to touch them, but that's okay. Positive sides. It feels really good not to worry about becoming pregnant. My sex drive is the same or even increased, weight is the same, appetite doesn't seem to increase. Period is less heavy, skin is better, acne is disappearing."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I've been on Apri for almost a year now. It works great protecting against pregnancy and keeping my periods regular, which don't happen exactly on the sugar pill day, but every time on Wednesday. But the downside to these pills is how big of a mental and emotional toll it takes on me. It gives me crazy amounts of anxiety. I've had anxiety a couple of times in my life, but it's an everyday thing now. It makes me feel like I've changed as a person and makes me very depressed and have deep, dark thoughts on life. I've always been an outgoing, go-getter type of person, but all I want to do now is sleep and ignore my anxiety. I don't know if I should change it or stay on it and see if it goes away, but it's been happening for almost a year now."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "Worsens depression, fatigue, increased appetite, weight gain, bloating, constant mild fever, headaches, unstable mood swings, decrease in sex drive overall but spikes in demand for sex at certain times (unstable). It did work as a birth control and did not worsen or help with my slight acne. I was on bupropion 300 mg for a few months before I started Reclipsen. It countered the positive effects of bupropion: increased energy, decreased appetite."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I've been on Viorele for 3-4 years now and have had a somewhat okay experience with it. It has helped with my intense periods by a lot, and I don't get the infamous period pimples as often. But I have recently realized one thing that has been hurting in a more personal sense. I have been getting bad mood swings about 1-4 times a month, not just before my period either. It has been incredibly confusing, and I feel it has been hurting my relationship. I am generally more irritable and get random times ranging from a day to a few weeks of depression. I have also noticed that in the past year, once I stop taking the white pills and start on the sugar pills, my period can take almost a week to come, whereas in earlier years, if I missed for just a few hours or one day, I would start immediately. I don't know what that could mean, but I just thought it was weird. Can't get off the pill or intense periods immediately start again. Scared to try other pills that may have different or worse side effects. :/"

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "This pill put me in pretty deep depression. I was extremely emotional and cried about everything all the time. I didn't gain weight, but it didn't really help with acne, and it caused me to get my period about 2 times a month. I had to stop taking it because I was so sad all the time and couldn't stand it."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "At first, I was terrified to start taking Isibloom birth control due to all of the horrible reviews I read. However, it is working pretty well for me. It cleared up my acne, I have no weight gain, and I also don’t see any depression side effects. I was nauseous the first few days taking it, but I’m pretty sure that was just my body reacting to something so new. I’ve also been on it for six months."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I have been on Reclipsen for 3 weeks. I have been experiencing severe depression, anxiety, and mood swings. My sex drive is very low, and I cry uncontrollably and for no reason. I was on Apri prior to this, and it worked well and made me very even-keel. I will be switching back at my next doctor's visit."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I started this BC 3 months ago after losing insurance, it was cheaper than the NuvaRing. After finishing my 3rd pack of hormonal pills, I started having withdrawal symptoms (jaw pain, shaking, hot flashes, heart palpitations, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, extreme mood swings). These symptoms lasted for 1 week straight, 24 hr/day. I wasn't feeling like myself, and I took myself to the ER 2x in 24 hours due to side effects. You know it was bad when I went to the ER 2x with NO INSURANCE! After my placebo week, I started back on the NuvaRing and feel 100x better and like myself again. I was prescribed anxiety medication to help me through this awful week. I've never had anxiety or depression before, or heart palpitations. I'm having a heart monitor put on for a month when I get health insurance to ensure that I'm no longer experiencing heart rates of 90-175 EVERY DAY. Figured out this medicine is double the dosage of hormones compared to the NuvaRing. This explains withdrawal symptoms. Beware."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I have had a terrible time with birth controls, and this one was no different, except maybe the side effects were more extreme. Not only have I gained 10-20 pounds, but I have been extremely depressed and have had horrible nightmares. It took me a while to figure out that it was my BC, and I stopped immediately. My period was pretty regular, and I did not get pregnant, but the mood swings, depression, nightmares, and anxiety are unbearable. Absolutely do not recommend."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "This birth control made me extremely depressed and suicidal. I also had mild cramps, tender breasts, and acne. No spotting so far, but I am going to finish this month and stop taking the pills. I probably will not try any form of hormones for birth control again after this experience."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "Moody, depression, lethargic, weight gain, and overall more emotional. Lost my sex drive completely, and my depression has taken over my life. It’s awful, and I wouldn’t recommend this to my worst enemy. Take anything else. I have been on 7 different types of birth control, and this has been the second to worst, the worst being the Depo-Provera shot. I am getting off of it as quick as I can right now. The only good things about this medication are that it decreased my cramping and cleared up my face in the beginning. Please don’t take this. I felt awful for so long because I was recommended to “wait it out” for 3 months to “get used to it.” I was on it for a year and a half, and nothing has changed. Don’t do it!"

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I (20 yr) was on Isibloom for 2 years. It cleared my acne and lightened my periods, but I didn't realize until I got off how depressed I was. I was just always constantly a little sad. Now that I'm off, I have forgotten how good life can feel, though my acne has made a horrible comeback."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I've been on this birth control for about six months now, and it's by far the best one I've ever taken. It definitely does the job: no babies and lighter periods. The first month was hard, depressed, and low sex drive, but those symptoms have gone now. I started the pack on the first day after my period, it has completely cleared up any acne, my boobs have gone up a size, and I feel I've lost some weight due to a lack of appetite. I think if you can get through the first month without any serious problems, this medication should work out fine for you. My only issue I would say is some months my period is a few days off."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I was really excited to start taking birth control. I was almost 19, in a relationship, and wanted to be safe. Plus, there were other benefits to taking birth control, such as lighter, regular periods and improvement in acne. When I first started taking Isibloom, I felt myself getting nauseous sometimes and cramps in my pelvic area. About a week after I started, I had gotten a cramping feeling in both of my calves, so I had to take ultrasounds to make sure there was no clotting. Nothing there, and I continued to use it. I noticed myself getting more sensitive and very irritable, but I figured it was a side effect. I would get sad for no reason. I would get really anxious sometimes. I disconnected with a lot around me. I didn’t have the energy that I did pre-birth control, and I definitely did not feel like myself. It progressively got worse, and my mental health was bad. Everyone’s experience is different. I stopped the birth control a week ago, and now I feel more like myself!"

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I was switched from Cyred to Isibloom, and TBH, I hate it. I’ve been having really intense mood swings/depression. I feel like a different person. I have no motivation to do anything and have had a noticeable loss of interest in my hobbies and even just going out to see friends. I also have been experiencing fatigue. I’m soooo tired all the time. I’ve been having to take 2-5 hour naps in the middle of the day."

For Birth Control "I have been taking desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol for 6 months now, it has been the first birth control pill I have experienced since getting into a long-term relationship. The positives are that it has stopped my monthly period, which settled 6 weeks after starting the pill. I haven't had one since. It has been effective in preventing pregnancy, including forgetting to take it on the odd occasion. The downside is that I have gained a small amount of weight despite being active, and my cravings have increased. I feel it has affected my mental health in a bad way. I'm laid back and level in mood, the day before my period, I would be a little hormonal, but otherwise, I'm pretty level-headed. I've noticed an increased sense of worry, anxiousness, and feeling like I'm going to have a panic attack because I work myself up so much over nothing, which is definitely not me. I also feel quite lethargic and low at times. So, after much debating, I'm going to come off this pill and try something else."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "This is the 3rd bc pill I’ve tried, and it’s by far the worst. There’s barely any time during the month where I feel okay. The week before my period, the week during, and the week after, I feel super gross and have low energy. I have gained 15 pounds in the past 2 1/2 months, and it’s been super detrimental to my mental health. My depression and anxiety are the same as on any other pill, but I have depressive episodes where I cry for no reason every so often on this. Do not recommend."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "Wow, oh wow, this medicine, Apri, has messed my body up. To begin, when I began taking it, I thought I was going crazy. My body did not adjust well at all. I was so depressed and moody. I was on Apri from May 2017 to August 2018, and when I stopped taking it, I felt instantly better and happy. My only thing is my periods still have not returned. Again, this was the worst experience ever."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I haven't even been taking this pill for two weeks. In this time, I am having extreme trouble sleeping (even with the help of sleep aid pills), back pain, horrible cramping, and not to mention mood swings. I have been extremely irritated. I will be fine one minute, then start crying for absolutely no reason. I have no desire to be on a medication that completely alters my personality. This kind of depression is not okay, and in my opinion, not worth it."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I have been taking this birth control for four months now. The first was the worst, I was irritable, frequently sad, lethargic, and just overall moody. It cleared up my face and didn't change much in the way of flow on my period but did make them shorter. My sex drive has also decreased, as well as my eating habits. I find myself less hungry, but my breasts have grown in size. Now, four months later, I've been spotting non-stop for the past two weeks, and my face is breaking out in acne that rests under the skin. Going to change my prescription soon, but for a while, it was definitely tolerable."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I think it is important to note that birth control is different for everyone, but I was on Kariva for 5 days, and it was awful! I would wake up between 3-4 times in a night, have night sweats (which is not normal for me), my breasts were so tender, I was insanely bloated, and the worst part... I think a blood clot was forming in my calf. I did not think this was possible since I was only on it a few days, but then I read that clots normally form when first starting birth control. I was also very emotional/anxious/depressed. I will be switching birth controls."

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "This pill is great for preventing pregnancy, but not so great on your body. I’ve been taking this pill for about 2 months, and I’ve experienced, in my first month, such awful sadness, depression, and anxiety. I would have panic attacks at times I never would before because it all came to much to handle, but after a month, they died down, and that wasn’t a problem anymore. But now I am about to start my 3rd pack, and I’m honestly about to just get condoms and wait to get a new prescription, 'cause I’ve had my period like 3 times this month. And yeah, I know you’re thinking, 'Oh, you could just be pregnant.' Well, I’ve been to doctors and taken tests, and no!!! Just this BC!!! May be the one for y'all, but the worst kind I’ve ever tried for me!"

Desogestrel / ethinyl estradiol for Birth Control "I do not recommend this pill. I have been taking this pill for 2 1/2 months now. The first month put me in the ER because of unbearable pain before and during my period, and I actually shed 3 lots the size of a quarter! My doctor said the pain was because I was experiencing pain similar to the early stages of labor because my cervix had to open to 3 cm to pass the pieces of lining! The second month of pain was barely any better. On top of all of that, I have been severely irritable, depressed, and moody the entire time I’ve been on this pill. After this pill pack, I’m getting off of it - no matter what my doctor says."
