For ADHD "At first, it was fantastic. I actually was able to sleep well, and nothing could wake me up. About a year ago, though, I began having one notable side effect that was so hard to shake, and it occurred daily: morning sickness, but I am not pregnant. Every morning when I wake up, I am greeted back to reality by bouts of nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and exhaustion. It goes away in the afternoon, and then I’m fine at night, but it can get bad. I want to try to get off of clonidine as well, but I'm still in the final stages of discontinuing Seroquel, so it would be too hard on me. The withdrawals aren’t that bad if you miss a dose until you realize your blood pressure has spiked through the roof. My blood pressure on both Seroquel and clonidine was so low, and I have a feeling it’s not a great idea to prescribe neurodivergent and mentally ill patients with a medication. It’s not the worst med I’ve ever been on, but there are some side effects that have never gotten easier to shake."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I get restless leg syndrome when I'm extremely tired. After midnight, I have to have my clonidine. It works about 20 minutes after I take it. I find it also relieves my nausea. I take 0.1 mg up to 0.2 mg. However, on very rare occasions, it's not enough, and I have to take trazodone instead."

For Insomnia, Stimulant-Associated "I have been using clonidine for the past 2 years for insomnia. I would stay awake till 12 a.m. when I would go to bed at 10 p.m. I was put on 0.1 mg of clonidine for sleep. Now it usually takes about 30 minutes at most to get to sleep. The only negative side effect is I will sometimes feel nauseous before bed. Sometimes it will wear off too soon when I don't have school and I'll wake up at 8 a.m. and struggle to fall back asleep."

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "Initially just took this as-needed for hot flashes (maybe ½ of a 0.1 mg pill twice a week), but things turned awful after I started taking it twice a day every day. After the first week and a half of that, I started noticing increased gas, nausea, headaches, low appetite, a general heaviness feeling of my whole body... then, a week after that came the awfully vivid dreams, sleeplessness, heightened anxiety, and irritability. I thought I was actually sick from something, but then realized it's from the consistent use of this medication. Will only take it from now on if I absolutely need it! Otherwise, it's staying in the back of my medicine cabinet."

For Insomnia, Stimulant-Associated "It usually takes 2-4 hours to fall asleep, usually get 3-6 hours before I wake, and rarely get back to sleep unless I can sleep in, in which case I spend 6-10 hours more in bed and a bit more sleep. Melatonin was ineffective. Taking 0.2 mg clonidine at night knocks me out hard with ~10 hours of sleep, but gives massive nausea and faintness when standing (fine when lying down). This continues into the next day, and overall I prefer not sleeping. Taking 0.1 mg clonidine (~2 hours before bed) reduces the time to fall asleep to 0.5-1.5 hours. I still wake up hours before I have to get up without falling back asleep. When I get up, I get minor nausea and faintness symptoms, which a morning coffee fixes well. Although 0.1 mg isn't a cure, I am very satisfied with the extra couple of hours of sleep. I would recommend finding the max fully tolerable dose for you (e.g., 0.05, 0.075, 0.1 mg) and seeing if it's any help at all. A minor improvement with negligible side effects is better than nothing."

For Insomnia, Stimulant-Associated "Clonidine has helped my insomnia so much. When I was like 13, I couldn't sleep. Sometimes on school nights, I would be laying in bed, not able to fall asleep, and I would get to the point of crying because I couldn't sleep, and I was up until like past midnight when I had gone to bed at 10. Melatonin made me feel sick and gave me nightmares, but this doesn't. Now, since I've been taking this since 2021, I've slept so much better. The only negative thing is sometimes I get a nausea feeling from this, but not all the time."

For Opiate Withdrawal "I have been taking this for two weeks now and have been experiencing restless arms, nausea, and averaging about three hours of sleep a night. I don't feel this is working for me."
