For Depression "I am a long-time sufferer from depression and anxiety and ADHD and PTSD....well, you name it, I have been diagnosed with it. I recently...like right now tried to get off Celexa....head hurts so bad I cannot stand up. Been awful. It's been 3 days and I am throwing in the towel and going to go pick it up at the pharmacy. Yes, it works on depression and a tad for anger, but I still do have episodes of anger and depression, which at times I wonder are worse than before. The thing is, I guess you never do know unless someone monitors you before and after. Honestly, I think exercise and healthy eating would have worked just as well. I can definitely say it makes you more tired. I can say this...DON'T TAKE THIS MEDICATION UNLESS YOU'RE SERIOUSLY IN NEED."

For Anxiety and Stress "I began Celexa after having a bad experience on Prozac. I did not see immediate results, but I did see some improvement. The side effects were terrible! I had extremely vivid dreams that caused me to be very tired and hard to wake. I had decreased sex drive and lots of problems with memory loss."

For Depression "I was on Celexa for about 3 months, started with 10 mg and raised up to 20 when I felt no changes. After going up to 20, I felt constantly tired, drowsy, and like a walking zombie. My anxiety and depression only got worse, it caused me to have thoughts of suicide and self-harm, and I just felt worse overall. My experience on Celexa was terrible, and I would not recommend this drug at all."

For Depression "I will start off by saying this medicine is very effective and has worked for my light anxiety and depression, and I'm very excited about it! Like many others that have reviewed, Celexa did make me tired for the first few weeks and did have an impact on my sex drive. Overall, I gladly accept the side effects for the calm/relaxed feeling that I have. It has surprisingly made my meetings at work and public speaking more manageable. I am 34 years old and have tried self-medicating with plenty of sleep and exercise and a healthy diet (and positive thinking). After years of 'dealing with it,' I just asked the doctor for something mild enough to lift me up, and he suggested Celexa; and I am so glad he did. It's made a difference in my life!"

For Anxiety and Stress "I was on Zoloft for about a week, then they switched me to Celexa. I took Celexa for 4 days, and they say give it time, the medicine will work. The first day I took it, I was extremely tired, but when it came time to go to bed, I could not fall asleep, and if I did, it was only for an hour or two before waking up in a panic state. The medicine kept me in bed for days and caused everything to hurt. I felt like I was out of my body and was confused, which was not normal for me. My heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. It also gave me weird, vivid dreams. I thought taking antidepressants would help me, but I feel like they just caused more pain and suffering."

For Depression "I have been taking this medication for about 2 months. I started on 20 mg and moved to 40 mg within 3 weeks. I haven't felt this good in more than 20 years. It took a few weeks for the side effects to go away. Dry mouth and yawning were the worst of it."

For Anxiety and Stress "I used to have mild panic attacks, was always depressed, and just felt like I had the world on my back all the time. My doctor prescribed me 20 mg of citalopram, and it works well. My side effects are I'm usually tired throughout the day, I get the shakes on and off, consistent yawning, skin itches a little, and a bit of a bowel problem. Other than that, I have found my moods to be much better, my depression is not as bad, and I'm more upbeat. Definitely would recommend."

For Anxiety and Stress "I tried this medication for anxiety, held in there for 5 months at 20 mg/day. I went into a full depression, was a zombie with no motivation to do anything at all. The exhaustion was terrible, sleeping 12 hrs at night with needing naps during the day. I did notice I wasn't shaky when dealing with people, but my view on the world was so bleak, and I didn't want to do anything. I'd rather be shaky from my anxiety and have energy and want to be part of the world than what I went through on this medication. Just awful... within 5 days of weaning myself off of it, I had my energy back and felt positive again."

For Anxiety and Stress "I was put on Celexa last Thursday due to the fact I had a major anxiety attack while working Wednesday. Felt like I was having a heart attack, but it was anxiety due to some bad news about layoffs at work, and I have a family to provide for. My PCP prescribed me a 10 mg dose of Celexa once daily. I take it before I go to bed at night so I do not feel the grogginess and give it time to work through my system during the night. I have been taking it for about 5 days, but I am feeling better already. I know it takes about a week for it to really work in your system, but I have a quick reflex system, so medicines absorb quicker in me. I have had a few side effects, as far as sex drive, still pretty good. Yawning is sometimes a pain."

For Anxiety and Stress "I took 20 mg of Celexa during college for anxiety and depression, and it helped tremendously. I quit taking it for a couple of years after college, but began it again after I got married. I noticed that this time around it affected my sex drive (lower) and made me more tired, but nothing super terrible. After my 2nd child was born, my doctor upped me to 40 mg because of anxiety, and the side effects were awful. Super tired - asleep by 6-7 pm every night - super low sex drive and inability to climax. It was very frustrating. I guess my body chemicals changed over the years and especially after pregnancies. On Wellbutrin now instead of Celexa, so we'll see how that goes."

For Anxiety and Stress "I've had panic attacks since 8th grade. I'm 28 now and notice my anxiety about having a panic attack was getting overwhelming. I started to notice I was avoiding situations. I'm a full-time student and work part-time. I need to do many speeches, and I would worry about speeches from the time they were assigned. I've been on citalopram 20 mg for 2.5 weeks. I have no panic attacks, and I have done two speeches with no issues! Side effects of nausea with yawning and sleepiness, but those go away (1.5 weeks), then I noticed the change! Wish I started sooner."

For Anxiety and Stress "I started taking Celexa 3 months ago for social anxiety and depression. I've had depression since I was 7, and my parents were against me taking medication. My sophomore year of college, my anxiety started controlling my life to the point that I never left my home to be with people, and I wouldn't participate in anything where anyone would watch me or evaluate me. I finally got my mom to agree to take me to the doctor and get some medicine. It's been 3 months, and my life has completely changed. I go out to social events, I've learned how to make friends, and I'm doing great in school. This medication has changed my life significantly. The only problem I've experienced is that it makes me tired, but it's worth it."

For Depression "I started this medication today, about 8 hours ago, and I thought it'd be cool to leave a Day 1 review. This is my first SSRI, and I am usually sensitive to medications. Maybe I'll come back and update it, however, 6 hours in, I had pressure in my head and felt really tired. I took a small nap for 20 mins, and now it's 2 am, and I can't sleep, and I feel like I could do 100 laps. The energy spike is definitely there. Someone also told a joke, and I could NOT stop laughing, even 30 mins after the joke had passed. That's really it, nothing extremely negative like I've read. ~Leah."

For Anxiety and Stress "I went through a very difficult time being hurt at work. I could have easily been killed. The company making moves to fire me because I cost them money for my 'free medical.' The accident was another employee's negligence. Long story. Plus legal, etc., etc. With Celexa, my anxiety, stress, and depression levels became under control. I was able to return back to a resemblance of a human being. Was at 40 mg to start. Weaned down to 30 mg. Then when legal became intense, 40 mg. No good settlements in these cases, but my sanity is returning. And coping better. Highly recommend. Side effect was being tired until my body adjusted. At least got covered by Workers' Comp insurance. In CA, that's a miracle because for injured parties, you're fortunate that insurance pays."

For Depression "I have tried almost all SSRIs that are commonly used, and Celexa works just like all the rest of them. It makes me feel out of it, like I'm not really here, and makes me extremely tired. I sleep about 4 hours a day. It does help with some of my anxiety, not all of it, and it does help with anger."

For Anxiety and Stress "Was put on this for depression/anxiety, and it was a disaster! About 40 minutes after I took it, I started to feel very nauseous and had bad diarrhea. I also felt very hot and had a lot of anxiety (more anxiety than I had in the first place). Later on, I noticed it made me yawn quite a bit, and each time I yawned, my jaw would stay clenched for a couple of seconds before it would relax again. I only took it for one day, and almost 2 days later, I am still having some nausea, yawning, and burping a lot. According to the other reviews, it seems like it either works for you or it doesn't. I am obviously not one of the people it works for!"

For Depression "I'm on the generic version, Citalopram. First 10 mg for 7 days, then upped to 20 mg. Now on that for a little over 4 weeks. Still feel blah. I've been switching when I take it to see if it helps sleep. Well, apparently you need to take it at night! It's a cousin to Lexapro. I just took my 20 mg at 9 a.m. (to see), and it's 2 hours later, and I'm very sleepy. I'm giving it 6 weeks. I'm on med #7. I hope this works. Not many left for me to try. Not much side effects with Celexa. Occasional anxiety, but I also have Klonopin when needed. So, going back to take it at night. I am having night sweats occasionally also, but lethargy during the day."

For Anxiety and Stress "I am an active duty female soldier - my husband is deployed - and I have 2 children, one with autism - and yes, I am a soldier - and with certain events happening, I was losing it bad. After 6 months, my doctor increased my dosage to 40 mg. It's been a week with the increase, and I feel better. I am tired all the time and forgetful. I have to make lists - but I am dealing with it and going to therapy - try it - it does work."

For Anxiety and Stress "I just finished my first week on Celexa. I have experienced mild headaches, strange dreams, yawning, loss of appetite, very sleepy all day. Nothing extreme, and I expect as my body gets used to this medication, I will not have so many side effects. I'm taking Celexa for anxiety and panic attacks."

For Depression "I have been on Celexa for 30 days now and am feeling great. I have been through a lot in life, being only 22 years old, and was in desperate need of help. I was severely depressed, shutting loved ones out, trying to figure out how I could make myself feel better. I didn't think a little pill could snap me back to reality, but I can honestly say that this is the best I have felt since I was a child. Only 30 days into it, I can feel a major difference in my mood. I don't constantly feel anxious, I'm not emotional or moody. I feel normal. I really don't think I will ever stop taking Celexa. The only things I would say I don't like are that I have felt extremely tired and have been having extremely intense, vivid dreams. Thank you, Celexa!"

For Depression "I began taking Citalopram while having severe headaches, the haze caused by the aches gave me severe anxiety, so I began taking this while finding a solution. I'd always had a bit of anxiety and bouts of moderate depression, and I noticed after about three weeks of taking Citalopram that I consistently felt glad to be alive for the first time ever. Living, the tasks associated with it often feel like a chore, leading to a general cynicism for me. I began at 10 mg, and the newfound joy of life was accompanied by a constant need to sleep. 12 hours a day and lethargy in between. The drowsiness was so bad I couldn't study, so I had to switch to 5 mg. I'm less tired, less happy, and more anxious. Compromise. I also take 25 mg Nortriptyline."

For Depression "I was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder and major depressive disorder about 9 months ago. I tried to go without medication but constantly just felt out of control. I had no motivation or interest in anything. I decided somewhat hesitantly to go on Celexa. Looking back 5 months later, I can't believe how much my life has improved. I feel like myself again. There was never even a hint of cloudiness or that 'drugged up' feeling. I just feel like me! The only side effect I really noticed was excessive yawning for the first two weeks or so and a little bit of lethargy when I switched from 20 to 40 mg. Other than that, I have nothing but positive things to say!"
