For Middle Ear Infections "I was on holiday in the Galápagos Islands when my middle ear infection returned. I was put on amoxicillin for 7 days, but the infection was getting worse. I went completely deaf and had drainage all over my pillow every morning. I went to the hospital in Santa Cruz and was told Mesporin would be the best solution: 3 injections into my bum. I’m not scared of needles, but the amount of fluid that went into my bum was insane! It took about 7-8 seconds to get it in, and my bum was on fire. I was screaming and crying so much that I had to be given pain relief in my arm. The next day, I went back for the second injection, and they mixed an anesthetic in with the vial. This was painful but definitely manageable. On the final day, I asked if I could get it in an IV, and this was the least painful way, I was very happy. My infection still remained, so I was given another dose in the form of 500mg pills! My blood results showed the infection was decreasing, and I was given the clear to head back to sea."

Ceftriaxone for Urinary Tract Infection "I have been suffering with a UTI infection. My PCP tried all kinds of antibiotics, nothing worked. Unfortunately, I cannot take oral medication due to my stomach sensitivity. Oral medication produces acid reflux on me extremely badly. Then I went to the ER last October, I was admitted to the hospital. I was given Rocephin IV, only 1 dose. It worked, and I was sent home. I was supposed to get five days of oral treatment, but that did not happen. I did not have any pain anymore. Anywhere after a few months, it began again, and I was given the generic injection, which was painful and did not work."

Ceftriaxone for Bacterial Infection "Got this shot 4 1/2 hours ago. Let me tell you, miracles exist! I was dying from a severe sore throat, and my tonsils were so red and swollen. I couldn’t even swallow my own saliva. I had headaches so bad that I felt my head would explode. This shot is amazing. I can swallow again, I can breathe with my mouth closed. Wow."

Ceftriaxone for Urinary Tract Infection "I was given Macrobid and Cipro first for my UTI at urgent care. Both made me throw up, even with Zofran, so I went back. The doctor gave me this shot. I got it in my buttock, and it didn't hurt at all. The liquid burned a little, but I mean biting my tongue hurts worse than that. Overall, I'm super happy because my symptoms are gone a lot faster than with antibiotic pills, which always upset my stomach anyways. I will be asking for this for every UTI I get moving forward."

Ceftriaxone for Bacterial Infection "I 100% recommend this drug for anyone with an intense infection. I am currently on Flagyl due to a C. Diff infection, and my doctor advised me not to take any antibiotics orally. Was diagnosed with a double ear infection and a chest infection after going into urgent care for symptoms unrelated to C. Diff. Let them know everything, and my care plan now involves using this injection to clear up my ear and chest infections through my muscles instead of the digestive tract since I am still taking Flagyl. The injection stung a tad when injected, but I hardly felt anything other than that due to my fear of rupture in my eardrum. Honestly, I couldn't say how big the needle was because I was too focused on what was being said about the possible rupture. I have 2 more injections to do over the next two days, and I am looking forward to them. This is a miracle. I already feel less pressure in my ears, and it's only been 6 hours. I expect this to be gone very soon! So pleased. No side effects to me at all."

Ceftriaxone for Bacterial Infection "Suffer with lower back pain, so I did not notice the kidney infection forming. Went to the ER as pain was increasing and moving to the flank right side. Turns out it was an acute right-sided kidney infection with stone blockage, as well as bladder involvement. This antibiotic was a serious lifesaver, as the pain was becoming intolerable. Within 24 hours, a marked improvement. For anyone with a reaction, it is related to penicillin, and if you have a reaction to penicillin, it’s not a medication you should have. Not a drug company issue, but an individual issue. Each medication can affect each individual differently, no way to foresee an issue from the drug company, but the treating physician should have warned that if you have a penicillin reaction, then this too will affect you. I was asked by the physician and went over allergies prior to injection. Fully informed on each medication I ever take. Highly recommend, the injection does have a real burn to it, worth the end result! Best of luck to all."

Ceftriaxone for Pneumonia "My son was running high 102-104 fevers, took him to the ER on Tuesday night. A chest x-ray confirmed upper left lung pneumonia. Was put on 2,000 mg of amoxicillin 2x per day. Was still running high fevers like before and went back to the ER Thursday night with pneumonia that spread through the rest of his left lung. He received 2,000 mg of Rocephin by IV 1 a.m. Friday morning. Twenty-one hours later, he is still getting high fevers. This latest one being 103. I'm starting to think this antibiotic isn't working."

For Skin and Structure Infection "I had a severe infection at a finger joint after a light dog bite. So about 30 hours later, I received a shot of IV in my left arm, it was painful to the point they had to stop and change the injection site. Reduced injection rate helped, but still was harsh. Redness in the finger diminished a lot during the night. The next morning, the doctor recommended another shot. In my right arm, this time I was apprehending pain again, but this time just a small discomfort. My observation is the last IV was really correctly in the vein and the rate of injection was adequate, even if the last 5ml was pushed by hand by the nurse. I was prescribed Amoxicillin orally for 5 days, 24 hours later, after the second IV, the swelling was gone and normal coloration. Yes, this worked well for me so far and probably saved my finger from complications. Follow your infectious disease specialist's advice, they know what they are doing."

Ceftriaxone for Urinary Tract Infection "I had one intravenous dose of Rocephin. Within a few minutes, I developed a burning/tingling in my fingertips and in my chest. It has been one day, and it has not gone away. Do not know if UTI is better, as I never really had much pain. Just discovered with urinalysis. I do not like the side effects if they are permanent."

Ceftriaxone for Urinary Tract Infection "Cannot say enough about a shot of Rocephin to kick start getting rid of an infection along with Cephdnir if you have had a urine culture to say it is susceptible to antibiotics. A common bacteria Klebsiella infection, especially in older women such as myself who have had a total hysterectomy. One word of advice: get a culture done. I have also had to have three shots for strep that kept coming back, knocked it out finally after six months. No side effects."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Had 3 shots of ceftriaxone over a 5-day period. For a UTI where 2 rounds of meds already failed. This did not help either. 2 rounds of more antibiotics later, I'm still infected. Going for tests. So no luck with this drug. Took under observation because of a possible allergic reaction. After the first shot, I started to shake and almost passed out. Though this may be due to the lidocaine as it speeds up my heart and makes me shake at the dentist. Was fine with the other two. The injection sites felt lumpy and hurt on and off. 3 weeks later, I'm having some nasty pain at the area of the last injection. Exercise, sitting wrong, carrying anything, or doing things around the house causes pain that doesn't let up."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Went to urgent care this morning, been dealing with a UTI for the past 2 months. All tests were negative, prescribed Flagyl, moxifloxacin, Cipro, and Bactrim. They didn't eradicate the problem, insisted to the doctor to administer ceftriaxone, she complied, and I must say the results are spectacular... also sent an order to the pharmacist for doxycycline 100 mg 2x a day for 14."

For Bacterial Infection "I have COPD and other lung issues. For two weeks, I received two shots a week. At first, it seemed to help with little side effects. By the third shot, it did not seem like it was working anymore. The fourth shot caused severe side effects. I broke out in an itchy rash from head to toe, my throat was starting to constrict combined with a 'sick' feeling getting worse as the day went on. I ended up in the ER with throat constriction and difficulty breathing. After several hours of oxygen and Benadryl, I was released. I will NEVER take this med again. I still have the lung and heart sac infection!"

Ceftriaxone for Lyme Disease, Neurologic "After 4 weeks of PICC line daily, I needed gallbladder removal. I was supposed to do 8 weeks of treatment. I ended up stopping at 4. Never completed treatment. I never felt better, I felt terrible every day. I was sick, vomiting, headache, body aches, weak. But most of that is normal other than vomiting and gallbladder. It was also a little inconvenient. But no Lyme is great. I never feel good at all. I'm in a wheelchair now. I'm not well anymore. I don't know that I'll be well until I get remission and a lot of physical therapy between now and then."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I found out yesterday from my ortho doctor that I had a very serious UTI. I slept 22 hours the day before, headache, diaphoretic, chills, nausea, severe abdominal and back pain. Saw my primary care physician today, and she asked if I would like a shot of Rocephin before I started my antibiotics. I was like sure, anything. All my pain symptoms were gone within 6 hours. Amazing. It is 11:00 pm now and I can't believe that just 10 hours ago I was weeping from extreme pain and discomfort. Minimal pain with injection in buttock."

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "I was given an injection of ceftriaxone two days ago for pelvic inflammatory disease. A few hours after I received the injection, I suddenly felt lightheaded and dizzy and needed to lie down. When I woke up, I had terrible diarrhea. I ended up spending the entire night violently ill, getting intense hot flashes before vomiting, and then getting so cold that I was shivering uncontrollably. I vomited six times, and my body (especially my legs) is still in so much pain. My green discharge seems to have improved, but my pelvic pain is actually much worse now because of how much pain I'm in after vomiting and shivering. My boyfriend and I had the same food, and he was not sick, and a nurse told me this is a rare reaction to this injection."

Ceftriaxone for Middle Ear Infections "My son is very sensitive to the taste of liquid meds, but he doesn’t quite weigh enough for the pill form of most meds. He had an ear infection that mostly went away with amoxicillin, but when he got another cold, it came back with a vengeance. This shot was recommended as an alternative to the liquid antibiotics. After one dose, it started working, but not quite 100%. After the second dose, we saw a huge improvement in his symptoms! He’s supposed to go back today for a potential third dose after a recheck. While he doesn’t love the actual shot, my little guy is so grateful to have an alternative to the liquid meds. I’m just happy he’s finally starting to feel better after almost a month of constant ear trouble."

For Kidney Infections "Went to urgent care for a presumed kidney infection (had one before, felt the same excruciating flank pain). The doctor suggested treating me right off the bat for one while we would wait for the proper lab results to come back for confirmation. Within a few hours of her poking me in the opposite hip, I felt immense relief. She prepared me for the shot itself to be painful, but I did not think it was bad at all; just a tad sore to the touch that night."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "I had a dead gallbladder full of stones which was infected, as well as the infection spreading to my stomach and liver, and I had low vitamin B12 and vitamin D with an impaired immune system. The surgeon gave me IV ceftriaxone to kill the infection and prevent me from getting an additional infection in my body from the surgery to remove the gallbladder. I did not get any infection afterward, including pseudomonas, and I recovered from the stomach and liver involvement in the hospital successfully. I had no side effects at all. I went from doubled over, unable to walk with bad liver blood results and bad endoscopy, to being able to walk and eat with good blood results and regrowth of my stomach lining. 10/10 saved my life."

For Bacterial Infection "Wonder drug. Every time I get strep/tonsillitis, this shot of Rocephin in the butt cheek is the ONLY thing that clears it up and fast. 1 GRAM IM, within hours the white stuff on my tonsils has gone away, fever gone, and I feel like myself again. Complete waste of time taking oral antibiotics that aren't strong enough. Most foreign countries use Rocephin as first line of medicine to clear bacterial infection. Yet in the US, they offer to torture you with countless oral antibiotics that don't work. I found one urgent care near me that always gives me a shot whenever I get tonsillitis..thank goodness."

Ceftriaxone for Pneumonia "After going under anesthesia, I developed a cough I couldn't get rid of. Within a couple of months, I had COVID and then found I had pneumonia. Thank goodness urgent care took an X-ray and found I had developed pneumonia from my anesthesia. Rocephin was literally a lifesaver. Within 24 hours, I felt like I was returning to my old self. The coughing started to subside and my breathing was so much better. I've since made two more trips to urgent care for follow-up shots. Simply an amazing drug!"

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "I got a shot today, though it works for me but it itches me, then I get swollen red patches. My lips itch too. And it's not the first time I'm getting this reaction. Nurse says maybe because it was intravenous, that my next dose will be on my bum than my veins."

"I became diabetic in my late 60s, and for some reason, all my crowns fell out. Eventually, I started having real problems with about six teeth. I have a rider on Medicare for dental, but it does not cover most problems. So about once a month, I have to go to the emergency room. This last time, they gave me ceftriaxone, but they were out of lidocaine, so it was somehow liquid-based. It probably took her 2 minutes to get all that into my hip. I clenched the bed to help with the pain. It immediately felt like fire ants going up and down my leg on the hip she gave it to me. I kept trying to wipe them off, but there were none there. It was pretty rough. Usually, shots do not bother me, but this one was totally different. It took about 24 hours before my teeth quit hurting. Then I had to take amoxicillin for 7 days. It may not have been so bad if they were not out of lidocaine. I would do it all over again and probably will because of these recurring teeth problems. I need at least one removed."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Had a serious UTI that. Bactrim didn't do anything to. First shot of Rocephin, not much changed. Burning, stiff lower back, feeling like rubbish. Woke up feeling the same way the next day. Got my second shot and, minutes maybe as long as an hour after the second shot, I'm feeling soooo much better. It's amazing. Can't wait, I have 3 more shots to take in my muscle. I am a paraplegic and use a leg bag with a Foley catheter. This is the first time that oral antibiotics haven't worked. I'm so happy that my doctor prescribed this shot. It really is a miracle drug."

Ceftriaxone for Bone infection "Went to urgent care for a bad case of pharyngitis. Previously, I was on amoxicillin for ten days, which seemed to help, but the infection came back. The doctor ordered blood work and a gram of IV Rocephin. The Rocephin was pushed for 30 minutes, and it hurt a bit going in. I was put on oral Axetil for another ten days. It’s been four days since the IV, and the injection site is tender, and I have a huge red bruise that wraps around and extends to the elbow. The throat feels better — my arm, not so much."
