For Pneumonia "Started with a cold, but better in 3 days. A couple of days later, bad sneezing/coughing spells, body aches, and lack of energy!!! I still hung tough, thinking it had to eventually go away…until I got to the point that I was so sick I couldn’t get out of bed! A friend helped me go to the hospital and I was diagnosed with pneumonia and prescribed five days of cefdinir, 300 mg, twice daily. After the first day, I could feel a difference and was able to get a few things done. I felt even better on day two; HOWEVER, I was up all night with diarrhea! On day three and four, I was back to feeling really crummy. Today is day five and I feel absolutely horrible, with diarrhea, stomachache, headache, exhaustion, whole body aching, and difficulty remembering how to do simple things, like opening our car door!!! Hope it killed the illness, but it is day five and glad I no longer need to take this medication!!!"

For Middle Ear Infections "Along with my middle ear infection, my throat was sore, as were the glands in my neck below the infected ear. After seven days on Cefdinir, there had been no change, NONE! My doctor put me on a different antibiotic, and within the first twelve hours, the sore throat and swollen glands were gone...the ear still has fluid in it. Cefdinir also caused me to have terribly loose stools. In fact, I quickly learned to take my evening dose by 7:00 PM if I wanted to not have to get up repeatedly to use the bathroom."

"This was for a UTI, which it shouldn't be prescribed for. I honestly wish I could go back in time and never take this drug. Stopped taking it after six days because of severe pain and diarrhea, went to the hospital, and I'm C. diff positive now and on another antibiotic for that. An awful drug that should not be on the market."

For Sinusitis "I’ve had a sinus infection for 2 weeks now. I’m going on day 4 of this cefdinir, and I don’t feel any better. Everything has gotten almost 100% worse. The diarrhea is terrible. The sinus pressure is so bad I can’t sleep. I'm up every couple of hours. Normally, I’m given doxycycline, and that kicks the sinus infections in the butt. I had to call in sick today because of this. Wouldn't recommend this medicine at all."

Cefdinir for Middle Ear Infections "My son has taken this before, and it worked fine. My 17-month-old daughter was just prescribed this after amoxicillin didn't take care of her ear infection. After 4 days, her gums swelled up really bad, became bright red, and then started bleeding on the 5th day. She also developed diarrhea. I immediately took her back, and they put her on Zithromax. I think we are finally on something that will work for her. My son can take this medication, but my daughter can't."

For Strep Throat "I was prescribed this for suspected strep throat. I had fever, ear pain, and swollen tonsils, so my doctor went ahead and prescribed this before the culture came back. The first day I had loose stools and nausea. This continued until the fifth day, I had muscle pain that OTC pain meds couldn't relieve. It was a struggle to walk to the bathroom. Pounding headache, sensitivity to light. Watery diarrhea, severe stomach cramps. Fever and body chills-my entire body was trembling, and teeth were chattering. I've taken many antibiotics in the past, and this is the first one that has given me trouble. I wish I had been prescribed amoxicillin, I tolerate it much better."

For Skin and Structure Infection "The doctor gave me this for an abscess. Around the third day, I had bad diarrhea and horrible cramping. After a day of that, I was sent to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a c. diff infection. It's been 6 months now, and I still have side effects. I have to watch what I eat, and I still get cramps and constantly run to the bathroom frequently. Now, if I need to take an antibiotic, I have to go to the gastroenterologist to make sure it is safe."

For Sinusitis "Bad cold turned to sinusitis. Up through day 6 of cefdinir, no problem. Morning of day 7 woke up a little queasy, called doctor who said to stick with it, but by evening I was vomiting with loose stool. Did not take evening dose, called Dr. next day (still queasy). Switched to doxycycline today. It was in my record that I had taken cefdinir before--apparently with no problem. As to sinus infection, can't say how effective. Mucus clear, but still stuffed up and run-down feeling."

For Strep Throat "My son was prescribed this for strep throat. After a couple of days of taking it, he was doubled over with severe stomach pain. Then the diarrhea set in. I stopped giving it to him and took him back to the doctor to get a different medication. They asked us to bring a stool sample, and when it was tested, concluded that he now had C. diff, on top of strep throat, caused by the antibiotic. I will never use this medication again."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "Side effect still lasting after 10 days off med. Itchy rash, swollen neck, chest, face, tongue, headache, fatigue, on and off diarrhea. Increased urination. Feel terrible for weeks. Took 2 a day for 10 days. Don't recommend this at all."

For Sinusitis "My ENT prescribed cefdinir (for 21 days) along with azelastine nasal spray and methylprednisolone (12 days) for a severe sinus infection that was not relieved by taking Amox-Clav. On day 7, I got a fever. The fever was off/on for 4 days. When that subsided, the diarrhea hit. It was pale, white, and fleshy stools with stomach cramps every couple of hours. After 5 days, I saw my family doctor who did blood tests. Coming back normal, she decided my symptoms were side effects of the cefdinir. I had one day of feeling decent, and then the headache and fever came back. So far, I have missed three days of work and a weekend. Diarrhea has subsided a little. Stools are now really soft/liquidy but normal color. I'm on day 15 of 21."

For Bronchitis "Was on this for 3 days and had very watery diarrhea for all of them. When I informed my doctor, she told me to immediately stop taking it because of the risk of it possibly killing all good bacteria in my gut, which would require other medications to treat. The drug also did very little to ease my other symptoms. I ended up taking Z-Pak instead, and it worked well."

For Strep Throat "I have only been on this medicine for 3 days, and I have severe diarrhea. I was sick for a week with a high fever, but this medicine has made me feel worse. I am going to stop taking it immediately. The label also says you can continue to have the diarrhea for weeks or months after."

Cefdinir for Middle Ear Infections "My 2-year-old has been on this medication for 4 days, and yesterday she started having severe diarrhea. Her little bottom is raw from it. I have immediately called her doctor to have this medicine changed. Apparently, she cannot tolerate it."

For Sinusitis "I have had a sinus infection and chronic sinusitis for over two months. I took a course of Amoxicillin in the beginning and improved so much, but when I ran out of Amoxicillin, the infection came right back. My doctor now has prescribed Cefdinir. I'm on day 10 and feel much worse. My asthma has worsened so that I'm having to take more Albuterol than usual. I have horrible headaches every day. My right sinus is clogged worse than in the beginning. I have insomnia and feel anxious. I'm not sure if the diarrhea is from Cefdinir or my IBS, but I've had to take Lomotil several days this past week. The worst side effect so far has been my lightheadedness. My blood pressure is ordinarily 120/80, but it has gone up to 170/100 for the first time in my entire life, and I am 67 years old! My ears had fluid build-up at my doctor's office ten days ago, but feel much stuffier now. My cough is worse, but that could just be the asthma. I hope I start to improve once I'm off this Cefdinir."

For Middle Ear Infections "I was given this at a healthcare facility when my doctor's office was not open on the weekend. I also had a sinus infection, and my asthma was severe. I was given a steroid shot and an antibiotic shot, and a script for cefdinir was filled by my pharmacy. I felt better on Monday, but from Tuesday on, I felt much worse. I wanted to give it a chance, but on Friday, I called the facility, and they changed my meds. This medication caused my stools to look like coffee grounds (internal bleeding) and also diarrhea that just 'leaked out.' I also was coughing more, and my asthma was worse! I know medications work differently for everyone, but if the majority of reviews are bad, that seems to indicate the medication might need to be reviewed again. As for me, I will never use this again!"

For Middle Ear Infections "Prescribed for ruptured eardrum/ear infection. On day 6, while my ear is much better, I feel nauseous and have several loose stools a day. Also feeling very tired. I'm taking a probiotic at bedtime, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. Still have 4 days to go, not sure if I'll keep taking it or not. Seeing ENT doc tomorrow, so we will see what he has to say. Plain old amoxicillin works for me without the nasty side effects."

For Middle Ear Infections "I’m a 22-year-old who was prescribed this for an ear infection/sinus infection (300 mg twice a day for 10 days). I’ve taken this probably 3-4 different times before and have had no issues. It works great at getting rid of the infection, by day 3, I felt much better. HOWEVER, also by day 3, I was having diarrhea and stomach pain after every meal. Yesterday was day 6, and I’m done. My stomach pain has gotten worse, along with the diarrhea. I feel well from the infection, but I just can’t keep taking this. So mad that it started giving me side effects for no reason."

For Sinusitis "I have been taking this medicine for sinusitis (300 mg twice a day), or however you spell it. It has only been 1 day, so I have only taken it twice, spaced out between 12 hours. One at 7:18 am and one at 7:18 pm. I have now been awake since 4 am with an upset stomach, stomach gurgling, and my bowels are slowly turning into diarrhea. I only made a bowel movement once while taking this so far, and I can tell it is about to go down if I keep taking it :( (I am normally very constipated). As far as for my sinusitis, it has seemed to improve my sore, itchy throat a little. I guess I should stick it out and drink plenty of water to see how I feel. I just do not want to vomit. :("

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I was prescribed cefdinir 2 x a day for 7 days. My side effects were severe fatigue, diarrhea all day, and random back pain. I have a very sensitive stomach, and it did not make me nauseous. I had a minor UTI, and it took a while to start feeling better while on this medication."

For Middle Ear Infections "Got prescribed because of my sinus infection. -1/10 I do not recommend. I have the worst stomach cramps ever and really bad diarrhea, and this morning I woke up with a clogged ear and can’t hear anything out of it. It has not helped my sinus infection at all, and please do not use this antibiotic."

For Skin and Structure Infection "Only took one cefdinir pill for UTI/kidney, and I have had the worst diarrhea ever. After 12 hours, it’s still going on. I can barely move, and it just starts rolling, so be careful. All medicines work differently, but this one is not good."

For Bronchitis "Was prescribed cefdinir 300 mg 2x daily for 10 days. I even took 30 billion culture probiotics daily to prevent this side effect. Made it to day 5 and began experiencing horrible abdominal pain. A few hours later, diarrhea started. I even vomited 6 times on top of it. I obviously stopped taking it, and day 2, the abdominal pain is about half of what it was. Still have very uncomfortable diarrhea every 1-2 hours... Sleeping 18 hours a day and very weak. Stay away from this antibiotic. I agree it should be prescribed very carefully or just taken off the market completely. The loss of work this is causing has been horrible, and if terminated because of this, I plan on taking action any extent I can."

Cefdinir for Pneumonia "Let's talk about my sickness first. I was dipping myself into a freezing water pool for approximately 5 minutes a day. The next morning, I felt the weather was so much colder, so I knew it was a fever. I'm a very healthy person, I make sure that my body is clean. I drink a lot of water and cleaning drinks, so my stomach is always clean. The doctor prescribed me Fevadol and Omnicef. The Omnicef experience was horrible. Very bad diarrhea every 15 minutes or so, even if there was nothing in my body. I couldn't sleep for more than 24 hours with complete alertness and no feeling of exhaustion. Eating it without food will make it worse. I used it for 2 days only. The dosage was 300 mg twice a day. I got dizziness, back pain, headache, and diarrhea."
