For Anxiety "I have been taking Buspar for 1 week, and I'm noticing subtle good changes. My doctor prescribed 10 mg 2x a day. I read good things before I started on them, and since I'm very sensitive to medicine and didn't want to jump in with the dose and then have it make me sick and not want to continue, I started very slow: 5 mg in the am (having something small to eat made me a little nauseous) and 5 mg at night. I can notice even at that low dose I'm not as irritated or impatient when I drive, if I have to wait in line. Even my daughter, who's 11, says I seem more patient when she asks me a question. Very hopeful as I increase to the dose my doctor wants me at, it will be even better. I really hope this will be the last med I have to try."

For Panic Disorder "Was prescribed this medication by the VA. I was on it for over a year. It made me feel dizzy and nauseated the entire time. The worst part of this was trying to get off of it. The withdrawal was severe, despite being tapered off of it. My brain felt like it was being electrocuted, I would get intermittent zaps for about 3 weeks after stopping the medication. My heart would race, I experienced sweating, couldn't sleep, and had terrible nightmares."

Buspirone for Anxiety "PTSD. Seemed to help some. Have a bit of dizziness, loopy for about 15 to 30 minutes after taking, then okay. Was taking other meds and got sick and barfed often. Quit taking, and nausea stopped. After a couple of months, feeling quite anxious, so started up BuSpar again, and anxiety seems to be very much calmed down. I plan to space meds out throughout the day and find a schedule where my tummy doesn't feel so nauseated."

Buspirone for Anxiety "Started on BuSpar, I think 15 mg daily (7.5 mg twice daily) in April and had some general side effects with increased anxiety plus nausea. My doctor upped the dose to 3 a day, and that lasted a week. My anxiety went through the roof, so he decreased the dose back down, but I've weaned it further to half a 7.5 mg tab twice a day and will begin coming completely off soon. Since beginning in April (it's now July), I have a marked increase in anxiety, irritability, and perpetual nausea. If you are new and looking to try something new, don't be afraid to try it. This is just my experience with it, there are plenty of others who have been helped by it. I have a prescription for a low dose of clonazepam (Klonopin) that I take sparingly as needed and works for me. I tried BuSpar because doctors are getting skittish about prescribing things like Klonopin and was hoping to find something that would help."

For Anxiety "I was put on 10 mg of Buspirone twice a day for breakthrough anxiety. I used it only as needed, but my doctor told me that in order for it to help, I had to take it as prescribed. I started taking it twice a day, and at some point thought that it was making me feel worse. About 10 days ago, after a couple of weeks on this dosage, I experienced crippling anxiety, stiff muscles, urinary problems, jerky movements in my arms and legs, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, and finally full-blown panic attacks, which I had never had before. From Wednesday to Saturday, I had 3 hours of sleep, no appetite, and my right knee became swollen, red, painful, and I couldn't bend it or my fingers. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had and the worst reaction to medication: angry outbursts, nausea, and confusion. I think some people can safely take Buspar and others have side effects that are unbearable."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I started taking BuSpar only a few days ago, 7.5 mg in the morning and evening, and so far have experienced the dizziness only in the morning. Had some nausea, but don't know if I can attribute that to the medication or the fact that I've stopped taking Ativan. So far, so good though. I do feel a little less anxious already and am excited to see the full results."

For Anxiety "Like you, I came to this website in a desperate attempt to find any medication that would help alleviate the mental and physical pain that I was experiencing. I have tried a couple of different SSRI medications in the past at different times but eventually discontinued them after a couple of months due to their limited effectiveness in reducing my anxiety and the side effects they caused (headache, sense of detachment, inability to gain an erection or orgasm, nausea). Buspirone has been very helpful at reducing my anxiety and improving my quality of life. I am currently in week 5 of my treatment of 22.5 mg per day. I take 7.5 mg at 8:00, 12:30, and 5:00. The only side effect that I experience is dizziness 15 minutes after taking."

For Anxiety "I've been titrating up on Buspar after going off of Xanax last year and then starting up with 5 mg fluoxetine and 10 mg doxepin. So far, this is working far more gently than the Xanax. I don't have a zap of relief followed by impending panic attacks within hours. I am much more level. I am having side effects of nausea, dizziness, and light-headedness for a few days after each increase in dosage. I'm up to 20 mg 3x a day, and I'm supposed to sit tight here, so I'm hoping to be done with the side effects soon and get into a stable state. I had a ton of problems with withdrawal from the benzos, so I don't want to go back to them; buspirone has been a great alternative so far. My anxiety is so bad that I'd rather be dizzy and nauseated than anxious."

For Anxiety "Today is the third day I've been on it and haven't taken today's dose yet. The first day I took it, I felt a little bit weird in my brain but felt great, the fogginess was gone. Second day, I hadn't had the chance to take it earlier in the day than before, felt weird in my brain for the first hour, then I felt like a million bucks. When I took it for the second time that day, I was almost sure it was 8 hours later. I felt like I was going to die: trembling, dizzy, nauseous. Everything was wrong. Then after a couple of hours, I felt like a million bucks. It just makes me suffer so bad for the first hour or two, then it's great. So I was wondering if yesterday I took my doses too close together? I just am scared that I'm going to end up having the first seizure of my life or something."

Buspirone for Panic Disorder "My panic disorder started very gradually. At first, it was a slight panic that lasted for a min or two when I was driving, then it slowly intruded into my life. At some worst points, I was unable to sleep for a week. I might be able to doze off for an hour or two, and then I'd wake up with a racing heart. BuSpar helped at first, I was only on 5 mg for five months, never went up in dose. After about 5 months, stressful events like job interviews pretty much made this med ineffective for me. I really liked this med as it had no side effects for me. No dizziness or nausea or 'brain zaps.' My doctor put me on Paxil instead. Just started it, but it seems to be working. My pulse is still about 20 beats above my normal rate, but it doesn't bother me."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I have really bad anxiety, and I've pretty much tried everything. I take Klonopin for panic attacks, and they work, but I needed something for daily issues. This medicine really worked, but, oh my God, I can't handle the side effects. Every day I have a migraine, or I'm nauseous, or puking."

For Anxiety "I take 10 mg twice a day, with food. The pamphlet says to take either with or without food, but be consistent. The only frequent side effect is tiredness, but I was always tired anyway. Infrequently, I will get dizzy and nauseated for about 40 minutes after taking, depending on how much caffeine I have had or how long after a meal I wait to take it. I noticed results after the first few doses, though I was warned that it may take longer. My mood has noticeably improved, as well as my ability to handle day-to-day tasks like talking on the phone. I still have situational-based anxiety, but that is more manageable than general anxiety. I have noticed that if I am a few hours late for a dose, I get irritable for the next few doses."

For Anxiety "My experience with buspirone is that it gave me horrible headaches, but on the occasions I don't get a headache, I REALLY like the way buspirone makes me feel - chill. I was on Zoloft and Lexapro, and all those did for me was make me nauseated. With buspirone, I would break the tablet into .5 and sometimes go up to 15, even with food and water intake. Anyone else who's had this experience with buspirone, please share your story, whether it's similar or different - would love the feedback. And anyone with the same headache side effects, how do you go about treating that? Also, if you've had success with taking buspirone and Xanax together or within the same day, please advise. Xo"

For Anxiety "This is my third time on buspar. I took it two times prior, with the first time didn't notice much difference, but dizziness, but I only took it for two weeks. Tried again years later and felt like a zombie (nausea, dizzy, didn’t want to get up off the couch for anything). After months of trying to increase me on trazodone (worked great for occasional sleeping pill, did nothing for my anxiety and had sexual side effects taking so much every day), my doctor suggested trying buspar again, but starting at a lower dose and increasing as needed. It took increasing the dose a few times over the course of about 2 months. But I FINALLY have some symptom relief with hardly any side effects (just a little sleepy when I take it with food in the morning). Occasionally still have my anxiety-related chest pressure, but more subtle and doesn’t last long, and only a few times a week vs. ALL the time feeling awful. Hang in there."

For Anxiety "It's okay. Take 5 mg twice a day, and although it helped with my anxiety and depression, it's given me bad side effects like nausea and diarrhea. I've had diarrhea for a week now, and I've been going about 3-4 times every day. I don't know if I'll stay on it, but I certainly can't live in the bathroom either. I'm out of options for anxiety medication. These side effects are awful, especially if you have a very active job like I do and work in a factory. It's not fun."

For Anxiety "Took for 3 weeks: 15 mg/day. I have GAD and get nervous randomly, sometimes to the level of panic. This drug made me nauseous and have brain zaps. The zaps went away after a few days, but I still got nauseous for a while after taking it. Since my anxiety didn't improve, combined with the nausea not going away, I was taken off it. I'd say give it a try if your doc recommends it - I see lots of positive reviews and it's not addictive. I now take 10 mg Lexapro and 5 mg Valium (as needed). Anxiety is less potent than before."

Buspirone for Anxiety "On the first two days of BuSpar, I had constipation, then nightmares all night long. Like the worst nightmare of your life every night. Brain zaps. Waking up, laying there. Apathy. Borderline nausea all day. Headaches. Then started to feel like someone was tapping on my brain. Had enough when I started crying uncontrollably."

For Anxiety "I've taken Buspirone HCL 7.5 mg for at least a month now, and it's made me feel sick to my stomach, sweaty, and gives me dry mouth. However, other people have seen a change in my personality in a positive way, even though I haven't noticed a big change yet. I don't like how it makes me feel physically, but my doctor said it could take months to get used to."

For Anxiety "About 2-3 years into taking buspirone, I started to experience weird side effects. My judgment was clouded. Very impulsive. My sex drive exploded and wanted to be naked all the time. Anxiety was horrible, I was experiencing panic attacks regularly. It all culminated in me losing 25 lbs and taking a trip to the ER because I simply couldn't eat. I kept getting nauseated all the time! I was also in a mild depression. This lasted until I finally withdrew from it. (Spent 12 days in a behavioral health unit) from trying to manage the withdrawal. It even prompted my septum to deviate, which I'm dealing with now. (Extremely frustrating.) I'm off all psychiatric medication now. I'm the happiest I've ever been, my appetite is the best it's ever been, and my weight is normalizing. My anxiety is normal. I've learned to manage my feelings through sleeping, eating well, and being sociable. This stuff is highly dangerous, it's at the point now where I'm considering a lawsuit over emotional pain and suffering."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I could never take more than 10 mg at once without dizziness and nausea that would surprisingly last approximately 30 minutes to an hour. Even 5 mg would sometimes cause dizziness. I was supposed to take 15 mg (?) mg twice a day, but I would take less than my prescription because of the dizziness. It was really frustrating, and I'm not sure if BuSpar helped my anxiety. Being off of it, I still don't have as many panic attacks and as much anxiety as I used to. I thought that the decrease in panic attacks and anxiety was due to taking the BuSpar, but now I'm not sure. I was very unhappy with this medicine because the dizziness after taking it always happened even though I was on it and taking it consistently for quite a long time."

Buspirone for Anxiety "BuSpar does the job better than other medication so far. Everything else has made me feel worse. The first couple of times I took this medication, my heart rate increased, and I felt dizzy. This went away after a couple of days of taking it. It makes me sick to my stomach if I take it on an empty stomach, so I definitely recommend eating a meal right before you take a pill."

For Panic Disorder "This is the 3rd day of taking Buspar. I was instructed to take 5 mg, 3X a day. The first one I took was okay for about 30 min... then the nausea hit, dizziness, severe ringing in my ears, and no choice but to go to bed, and then nightmares. So far in 3 days, I've only taken three of the 5 mg, and I'm no better. I've taken Xanax for a severe panic disorder, 1 mg, 3X a day, and that's the only thing that's ever worked for me. I've been on every antidepressant with no results. I'm wondering if I will get better on the Buspar. Any feedback is certainly appreciated because I really would like to get off Xanax, even though it's the only thing that relieves my panic attacks."

Buspirone for Anxiety "I am on BuSpar and 5 milligrams once a day. I feel that if I take it all at once and it does not work, I am so lost because I can't stand this dizziness, nausea in my stomach. My feet feel like they're falling out from underneath me. I really am lost. The doctor wants me to stay on it, but I do not want to up it because I feel like I keep going through these side effects over and over again every day due to the fact of it being half-life. What do I do from here?"

For Anxiety "Have been taking 5 mg twice a day for the last 4 days, stopped taking it today. It was like I had drunk 6 Red Bulls. Jittery, sweating, dizzy, nauseous, twitching. The Wellbutrin I take is awesome, not a single side effect, but needed something more for some anxiety. But I had to stop taking this, just way too gnarly even for a bigger guy like me."

For Anxiety "I started Buspar 2 days ago. I'm not sure if it is working. My personal situation is creating chaos in my life, and anxiety and panic attacks are everyday occurrences. I'm having serious problems being able to sleep after 2 a.m. (always woke up and can't go back to sleep). Today I'm trembling and have a terrible headache, nausea, and tiredness. I don't know if I should continue this med or stop it before I get worse. Can anybody experience these side effects in the first days and then get better? I don't know what to do, and I can't stand still."
