"Buspirone has worked miracles for me, and I did not expect it to work. Multiple doctors have tried SSRIs for my anxiety multiple times, and SSRIs have never, ever worked for me. The only thing that has worked was benzos, and we all know that doctors treat you like an addict if you try to take benzos without the SSRIs. I am so glad my current doctor tried this for me instead of trying to shove more SSRIs down my throat. On this medication, I am more confident, have been able to enjoy situations that would have given me panic attacks a month ago, and I worry less as a result. My doctor explained this med by saying that it increases serotonin. If you have low serotonin, SSRIs won't help. In that case, Buspirone can help."

Buspirone "I also experienced my first asthma attack ever on this medication. I don't see it listed as an official side effect, but I've never encountered anything like it before, and just putting my 2 cents in. I've tried just about every SSRI and SNRI under the sun as well, so while I'm not guaranteeing it's not a coincidence, I'm pretty well past the point of attributing everything that happens to me to my medications. Aside from that, it worked maybe... 10%? But I think the majority of that was the sedation, which wears off as the sedation does. Other side effects for me were worse sleep, anger, nightmares, weight gain, and tiredness."

"Every time I take my buspar, my heart feels like it's pounding out of my chest for like an hour (eventually, gradually it goes away), and my chest gets tight. I just started taking it 2-3 weeks ago, and this chest pounding thing only started happening about 7 days ago. It's starting to freak me out to the point where I might just stop taking it altogether. Am I the only one who feels like my heart beats a million times a second on this drug? & what else is out there to help specific anxiety disorders?"

Buspirone "I struggle from PTSD, Panic Disorder, and Bipolar I Disorder. I am on Prozac and Zyprexa for my other disorders, but continued to have panic attacks. I started BuSpar about a week ago, and so far I do have daily anxiety, but haven't had a panic attack since the second day I was on it. I understand it takes time to build in my system, so I'm excited to continue taking it in hopes it'll continue to improve my quality of life. I highly recommend it, my doctor put me on 10 mg 3x a day."

"I've been on Prozac and Buspar for 3 months. I was terrified to start, awful spaced-out feeling, not high, just foggy-minded. Now I feel great, have my moments, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel."

Buspirone "I was given this for panic disorder with agoraphobia. It made me so dizzy every time I took it that I couldn't even read a book because it felt like I was in a washing machine being twirled around. I took it at night before bed, and I had to make sure I was in bed when I took it, and I could not be walking around or doing anything because I was afraid I'd stumble or fall down. I took it for eight days, and it didn't get any better, so finally, I stopped taking it. It had no noticeable improvement on my anxiety anyway, and I didn't see the point in taking something that made me feel like I was on a merry-go-round."

"Garbage! The worst medication ever, doesn’t work at all, gives me migraines, restlessness, trouble staying asleep, my glands are swollen and hurting. Shaking as well. Wouldn’t recommend this for anyone, seriously, take anything but this garbage. I was taking Klonopin 1 mg extended release for decades and never had any issues and slept amazingly. I’ve been taking buspirone 15 mg twice a day for about 45 days, and I really want to stop taking buspirone and go back to Klonopin because this is making me go crazy, worrying a lot, and the panic attacks are high. I believe these doctors are creating mental health issues by switching our meds, so be careful. Definitely going back to Klonopin 1 mg, 2 a day…hopefully today I can switch back to Klonopin because honestly, it is hard to live this way and the sad part is, the therapist doesn’t even care. Also, I haven’t slept in 2 days."

"I have chronic PTSD, panic disorder, depression, and had been taking 80 mg of Prozac, 1 mg of Xanax, and 30 mg of Temazepam at night. Just recently, I changed psychiatrists and was taken off of Xanax and put on Buspirone 15 mg two times a day. When I tell you that my life has changed for the better... it is an understatement. I used to think I was living life when I got put on all my psych meds until I got on Buspirone, now I am truly living and loving life to its fullest. I wake up and look forward to waking up and living, it is truly a blessing. My triggers are managed now, I do not have panic or anxiety attacks that lead me to depression and sheltering myself. Now I am able to refocus and process my feelings, emotions, and thoughts. Buspirone is AMAZING! I would highly, highly suggest a new protocol that requires every patient be put on Buspirone before being placed on Xanax - this is how much I love this new medication... TRY IT, IT IS A LIFE CHANGER!!"

Buspirone "Doc gave me this in addition to Ativan for panic attacks. Did NOTHING for my panic attacks! Still felt tense in class and wanted to run out of the classroom on a daily basis. When told to increase my dose, the drug increased my anxiety. Although it didn't do anything for my panic attacks, it sure lifted my depression."

"This medicine is useless. I suffer from extremely bad panic attacks and have been in and out of the hospital every day for 3 days. This medicine made everything worse. I'd wake up multiple times if I could even go back to sleep to go back to the ER at 2 am. I don't know if it's a real medicine or a water/sugar pill, but it doesn't work for panic attacks. They say you can force yourself to believe a medicine can work or not work, not in this case it DOESN'T work. Benzodiazepines may be abused and bad for you, but it's better than asking someone who is suffering like us to use medicine that doesn't work at all for most people."

"Was prescribed this medication by the VA. I was on it for over a year. It made me feel dizzy and nauseated the entire time. The worst part of this was trying to get off of it. The withdrawal was severe, despite being tapered off of it. My brain felt like it was being electrocuted, I would get intermittent zaps for about 3 weeks after stopping the medication. My heart would race, I experienced sweating, couldn't sleep, and had terrible nightmares."

"I had a hard time when I started this buspirone medication. The first three weeks were really difficult, and I felt like it was making me worse. I am glad I stuck with it. I have been taking it for seven weeks now. My current dose is 5 mg three times a day. I still have some anxiety, but I can cope with it better. I haven’t had a panic attack in three weeks. I hope the panic attacks stay away. I did have a lot of dizziness in the beginning and brain fog, but it went away. Give it a try."

"Ok, I've been having panic attacks since I was in middle school, and I'm 29 now. Over time, they have gotten worse. It feels like I'm dying, and I can't do anything about it. I also freeze in one spot and have some type of seizure where I can't move, and I don't remember what happens. It's very scary! So, I was given Xanax to help, but it made it worse. When I turned 20, I was given 5 mg 2x a day of Buspar, and it had me in a corner feeling miserable. I wish everyone the best of luck because living like this is hard. Currently, my new doctor upped my dose to 15 mg every 12 hours. I'm not saying it's better, but it has been helping. The only problem is I'm starting to feel dizzy when I first take it, then sleepy, also detached, alone. Only time will tell."

"This medication saved me! I was having daily panic attacks that were very physical and completely out of nowhere. I would think I was not getting a full breath. I would think that my chest was tightening and my body would go numb. My mind would become fuzzy, and I would be paralyzed with fear. It happened during my classes, in movies, when I was out to eat, and I started feeling bad that those around me had to deal with me. Eventually, I just knew that it was a panic attack, and I would cry until it passed every day in the nurse's office at school. This was 5 years ago, and I have been on buspar ever since! I have not had ONE bad panic attack in 5 years. I would advise taking it before bed, it makes you feel weird and tired, like dead weight."

Buspirone "15 mg twice a day, have been on this medication for about 3 years. I do agree that it does work for the anxiety, but the side effects for me are personally not worth it. I started seeing shadows, had really bad anger outbursts, and really bad heart problems. Not to mention the brain fog whenever I would take a dosage. It was just too much to handle. Probably one of the worst meds I've ever taken."

Buspirone "Wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. Just wanted to share that I had the worst panic attacks of my life on this medicine. I would shake uncontrollably at random times, get extremely dizzy, and feel brain zaps throughout the day. I was on 5 mg, and this medicine had this much effect on me. Made me extremely depressed, and my doctor didn't even know it was the medicine that was causing these side effects. Please be careful when taking this medicine, it can be very dangerous."

"Started to kick in after about 23 days, but no major side effects, so yay! For the first week, I took 5 mg before going to sleep. But each day, I would take it earlier. So day 1 at 10 pm, then 9 pm, 8 pm, and so on. Then on day 8, I started taking 10 mg daily (5 mg in the morning and 5 mg in the evening). Always with food! Be consistent. For the first approximately 5 days, I would get sleepy about an hour after taking it, then this went away. For the first approximately 2 weeks, my eyes would lag for about an hour after taking it. It's a weird feeling...like when you shift your eyes in different directions, you can feel the muscle in your eye pulling. Kind of like it's strained, and it takes effort to shift your eyes. This also went away."

"I had tried about 20 different psychiatric medications before Buspar, all of which were, at best, minimally effective. Buspar has been the one medicine that has made a positive change. I feel alive again. I am not in such a dark place anymore, and my panic has gotten better. Although I still have a bit of anxiety, it feels much more manageable. And I have only had to take 5 mg twice daily! It has given me a little bit of insomnia, but it is well worth it."

"My husband has been taking this drug for 20 years, it is the only one that helped him with generalized anxiety and panic attacks. Now I hear it is being discontinued, or they have stopped making this drug until February. How can a drug company do this when people have depended on this for years? Not sure what they are going to replace it with, but it scares me and upsets me very much. He started taking this drug after 15 years of trying to get the right balance with all his other drugs, this drug was the only one that helped regulate him. Now what..."

Buspirone "Buspar is a complete waste of time. I took it for 3 months on all different sorts of doses, 5mg-15mg, and it did NOTHING to help my anxiety/panic. Complete placebo pill. What it did give me was tremors, dizziness, noise sensitivity, dissociation, and made me angry BEYOND belief. Waste of time. If you do want to try to try it, take it 2-3 hours before you actually have to go to work or accomplish something, because it makes you feel like rubbish for that long after you take your dose. Might have worked for some people, but definitely didn't for me."

"When I first started taking buspirone, I was having major panic disorder. I remember trying to balance hormones and didn't know where else to turn. My doctor prescribed buspirone along with fluoxetine, and it completely saved my life. I've been on it for over a year now. I take 15 mg in the morning with no food every day. The very first day I took it, I remember feeling so weird. I didn't know if I was mad at my husband or if I just needed him to hold me and squeeze me. And the answer was, I just needed to be held. On the first day, you don't know what to do. On the second day, I took it exactly the same way and did not feel how I did the very first day. My recommendation is to take it at home the first time when you have nowhere else to be. Other than that, I will try to stay on it for as long as I possibly can. I love it!"

Buspirone "Drug is prescribed for the 18-64 age bracket. Seniors experience drugs differently, just like teens. I tried BuSpar to replace Xanax. BuSpar builds in the system. The first month, I noticed a slight calm effect. My NP was getting me off another SSRI, also not good for seniors. During the last two weeks, I have noticed shortness of breath, which has increased. That increased my anxiety and hyperventilation. I know it is early, but I already feel better this evening, not having taken my three 5 mg doses. Xanax has a 6-hour shelf life and works better for me, and I have learned to regulate the doses. I will wean off on the 2.5 half tabs of BuSpar. My system is just like it used to be."

It has been three weeks, and I am having nothing but a positive journey. I have nothing bad to say about the alprazolam."
