Bupropion for Depression "Came off Celexa - I had absolutely no sex drive. They told me Wellbutrin had the least amount of sexual side effects. Well, first 3 days I started with 1 time a day, 150 mg. I started to get migraines that would make me nauseous. Called the doctor, they told me it was probably from coming off of Celexa, so after 3 days, changed to twice a day dosing as directed! BAD IDEA. I could not open my eyes around light, it would make my head hurt so bad that I would start throwing up. Also couldn't eat, lost 5 lbs. Continued hoping it would go away, but it got WORSE, started not being able to breathe and my heart was beating really fast. Almost went to the ER. So the next day I took 1 pill and the next day stopped, symptoms went away!"

Bupropion for Smoking Cessation "In my first week of Zyban. Need to give up as I smoke a pack a day. Feeling nauseous, last night had a severe headache and woke up thinking I could levitate and fly after having the weirdest out-there dream - it really felt believable. Anyway, going to continue and pray it works, will report back at a later date."

Bupropion for Depression "I got on Wellbutrin XL 150 mg because I was having a hard time with racing thoughts and depression. It's been two weeks, and my anxiety went up from a 6 to like 100. It also makes me afraid I'll hurt myself when I get the strong anxiety feeling, it's weird. I also have been really shaky inside and nauseous. It's hard to eat, I get so sick at my stomach, which isn't so bad. I need to lose some lbs. I told my doc, and he is going to add Abilify 2 mg to see if it helps. I haven't picked up the prescription yet till later today. I hope it helps. I just want to feel normal again, enjoy life instead of dwelling on everything."

Bupropion for Depression "Suffer from SAD and PTSD. Tried Zoloft but had sexual side effects and still felt depressed. I have taken Wellbutrin with much success. Occasionally, I have stopped taking it, and the depression returns. No sexual side effects, and I'm back to my usual happy, positive, and energetic self. I've had to increase the dose to 300 mg XL four times daily, still felt the blues and lack of concentration on 150 four times a day. Doing great! No extreme side effects. Ringing in ears stopped, love the decrease in appetite, and am now able to, and desiring to, exercise, so the weight loss is a plus. Occasional nausea, but able to deal with it. I love feeling back to my old self; highly recommend!"

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I have only been on this medication for 2 days, and right off the bat, I am noticing some slight stomach upset and nausea. I have tried countless other antidepressants before, with Zoloft, Paxil, and Trintellix not working for me for various reasons, mostly including an enormous amount of weight gain in a short period and nausea. I have always wanted to try this medication, mostly because I heard it usually does not cause weight gain; after losing almost 40 pounds, I would be devastated to gain it all back."

For ADHD "I have inattentive ADD; this was one of the first medications I tried in treating it, as I wanted to stay on the non-stimulant route. I find it works well for the first month or two - but once your brain adjusts (at least for me), it felt like I was back at ground zero. Furthermore, it made my hands extremely shaky! Tried the other non-stimulants (clonidine made me sleep, guanfacine made me sleep, and Strattera actually resulted in me throwing up about 30 minutes to 1 hour each day after taking the dose). Eventually settled with Adderall IR, approximately 5 mg, 2-4 times a day."

Bupropion for Smoking Cessation "Day 1, a bit of feeling 'doped up.' Day 2, OK; nothing significant. Day 3, the nausea started. Ciggies tasted horrible, but even worse than that, just the thought of food, and I all but headed to the john to throw up. This was the three-day, one-pill-a-day phase. Side effects of Chantix (including nausea) were not as severe as this. I'm still waiting to see if, after 24 hours, that last dose will finally wear off. Cold turkey, bad as it can be, is way better."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "Currently on this medication, 150 mg daily. I expected the side effects to be bad after reading some reviews here, and they were, lol. Thought so many people said it would calm down after the first month, but it's been longer than that. Usually for me, the nausea is the worst thing. I never want to eat anything, food just disgusts me most of the time now. I felt like it was really helping the depression a few weeks ago, but now I am more suicidal than ever. Also, my anxiety is horrible. Many days, I don't want to leave the house. I used to be agoraphobic about 10 or so years ago (in my teens), and now I feel myself heading that direction again. It also has really affected my sleep, or at least that's what I'm assuming. I have been having a very hard time getting to sleep, and then if I wake up from something, it's even harder to fall back asleep. It just sucks. The only plus is that it doesn't increase my appetite. Hope this helps."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I want to start by saying that drugs have different effects on everyone, so not every experience is the same. This medication has changed my life. After trying 7 different antidepressants, then stopping, then trying again, I have finally found one that works. One of my biggest problems was an inability to focus on anything, and I am finally clear-minded and able to focus. I still have some problems with mood regulation, but it is SO much better than before. I had some pretty bad side effects getting on Wellbutrin (but did with every drug I tried) -- extreme dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and bad headaches. Side effects wore off after a week, but I still get bad headaches with this med (worth it). Definitely a drug to discuss with your doctor."

For ADHD "2 1/2 weeks in and taking 150 mg each morning, I cannot believe how much it has helped me. I am 67 years old and have never had treatment for my ADHD until now. I am able to complete tasks, my self-care regimen has become more solid, and my thoughts are clear, not scrambled and overwhelmed. I have three healthy meals a day instead of crazily bingeing. I was a little afraid to take it because anything that has been prescribed in the past that is an antidepressant has made me feel suicidal, and that is not a challenge I ever normally have. I was only prescribed those off-label for migraines. I had a little nausea the first two days. Now life is different, and I look forward to the rest of it."

For Smoking Cessation "27 and been smoking heavily for about 2 years but couldn't stop on my own. I've been taking bupropion (purple pill) for about a month now. 1 a day for week 1, then 2 daily. Within the first 2 days, I went from smoking 10-12 cigs a day to 3-4. I am also a daily 420 user. The meds cut those cravings way down too, which might be why I started to feel anxiety, so my doctor increased my dose to 340 mg. After about 4 weeks, I was cig-free. I think I'm in week 6 now. I don't crave cigs at all, but for the last week, I have been feeling very nauseous when I eat. The worst part is the aggravation/anger. The smallest things get me very angry. I used to be very mild-tempered, you could say a pushover. These meds made me a b*tch. Now I'm weaning off."

For Smoking Cessation "Well, I'm on day 4 of this medicine. And before, I was a pack-a-day smoker. The medicine has made me feel kinda crappy, very tired, no appetite, and weak feeling. But I've only had 2.5 cigarettes today, and it's 5:30 pm... After the second day, I felt like when I smoked, I felt worse. Now they taste like crap or just have no taste, and I'm like, why am I smoking these... I hope my body adjusts to the pills so I stop feeling like crap, but so far, the quitting smoking thing seems like it's working..."

For Anxiety "I was on 300 mg and felt okay, but then anxiety came back. I was increased to 450 mg. I have nausea, dizziness, and even worse, forgetfulness. I would lose my train of thought and think longer on writing an email at work. I've lost weight, so that's a plus. I was on Effexor before, and it worked well for me, but I gained weight."

For Depression "Took bupropion for almost two weeks, it made me so sick. Dizzy, pressure in my head, blurred vision, and nausea out of this world. Didn’t take it today, and the nausea still seems to have no end, not to mention I’ve been having the most vivid, crazy dreams. I wouldn’t recommend this medication at all. Can’t wait for it to leave my system so I can feel normal again."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I have been suffering from anhedonia for 1.5 years. I don't feel happy, but I'm not angry or experiencing any other emotion. I heard about Wellbutrin, and I had some hope, so I asked my doctor to give it a chance. Day 26, I feel horrible. I felt the same 2 weeks ago. I thought these side effects would go away and it would be my lifesaver because it's a dopamine inhibitor. I was hoping it would work, but now I feel completely hopeless. I don't know if I should give it more time or get off this drug, it is my last resort. Other antidepressants just make me feel worse, Wellbutrin too, but some days I've been feeling a little hope and more energy. I don't know what to do anymore."

For Depression "I'm so disappointed by this drug. This med worked wonders for me, but I hit every side effect (other than seizures, thank goodness). Week 1, nausea and dizziness, but was SO happy and productive for the first time in ages. I felt my motivation come back. I was able to do things that I was too depressed or anxious to finish for almost a year prior. Week 2, crying all the time. Mood swings. Suicidal thoughts and mild self-harm. Motivation and focus were still great. My doctor warned me that there may be a 'bad week' and to push through it, so I did. Week 3, I felt AMAZING again. I was leveling out. I felt calm, happy, and functional. Best I had felt in ages. Around day 20... I broke out in itchy full-body hives. Started with my scalp, then arms and elbows, then stomach and chest, and now all the way down to my legs. Apparently, this drug causes delayed hives in about 4% of people, and they can last WEEKS even after stopping the drug. My doc immediately pulled me off of it."

For Depression "I have a history of major depression and have been taking a daily dose of 300 mg of bupropion XL for the last 4 years. It's important to note that everyone responds uniquely to medication, but for me, bupropion has been wonderful. Unlike the SSRIs and SNRIs that were prescribed to me early in my treatment, bupropion does not make me sleepy or negatively impact my libido/ability to orgasm. I did experience some nausea when I first began taking it, but this passed quickly. It took about 8 weeks to kick in completely for me, and I haven't had a depressive episode since I've been on it. My weight has remained stable."

For Depression "I started this medicine, bupropion, because I had situational depression. I stuck with it for 5 weeks but had the worst side effects that just seemed to get worse as time went on. The most noticeable one was anxiety that put me on “level 10” almost all day long. I never had anxiety before I started taking this medicine. Other side effects that added to the reasons I stopped taking it were clenched jaw, neck and muscle pain, floaty feeling through most of the day, inability to focus, and vomiting/nausea."

For Anxiety "The doctor prescribed this for anxiety relief, added to my Lexapro that I have been on for many years. I have been under a great deal of stress (Mom in Alzheimer’s facility, Dad recovering from aortic valve replacement, work needs me to cover a maternity leave). I was prescribed 100 mg twice daily. Taken 5 pills - now experiencing - anxiety, irritability, nausea, a feeling like I am crawling out of my skin, headache. The anxiety is the worst, and that is what we were looking to manage. I am not taking another pill. Does not work for - calling doctors in the AM."

For Anxiety "When I first took the Wellbutrin pill (150 mg), I was in a good mood. A few hours later, extreme stomach pain and nausea, I did not sleep at all that night. My mind was just racing. I’m going to keep on taking it for a little while, and if I see these side effects don't reduce or stop, I’ll have to try something else. :( I really wanted it to work because every other antidepressant made me gain weight, and apparently, Wellbutrin is known for weight loss."

For Anxiety "Kinda late getting in the loop here, but I started on Wellbutrin SR 150 mg for major depression, then was increased to 300 mg after finding the 150 was minimally helping. Was having some generalized anxiety, but evidently wasn't bad enough during the assessment period while in outpatient treatment to warrant a diagnosis for it. After OP treatment, the 300 mg was helping some for the depression, but not as much as I would like, so I was increased to 450 mg. Up until that point, the anxiety bit was pretty manageable, but after about a week or so on 450 mg, my anxiety started to skyrocket. I didn't feel much more help on the depression side at 450 mg, though. However, with the heightened anxiety, I went back to 300 mg. Talked to my primary doc, who seemed to think that the Wellbutrin shouldn't have much effect on anxiety (despite conflicting evidence to the contrary I've read online on multiple sites), so he put me on Celexa 10 mg as well recently for the anxiety and notified my therapist as well. Not been on the Celexa long enough yet to see how much it helps, but it has made me somewhat queasy, as was communicated as a side effect of Celexa. So the short of it is my anxiety didn't get real bad until going from 300 mg to 450 mg of Wellbutrin, and the depression has only had limited help going from 150 mg to 300 mg to even 450 mg. I guess we'll see how well both Celexa 10 mg and Wellbutrin SR 300 mg work for me for the anxiety and depression."

For Anxiety "My doctor prescribed Wellbutrin XL 150 mg for me because I was having anxiety attacks, and he didn’t want me to keep taking Ativan. The first few days on Wellbutrin weren’t too bad. A little dizziness, but nothing major. But when I got to day 9, the effects were debilitating. I couldn’t sit or stand for more than 15 minutes due to the dizziness and spent half the day lying in bed. I quit taking it that day. Wellbutrin has a long half-life, along with the XL working for 24 hours, so day 10 was also miserable. Two major panic attacks, along with dizziness and nausea. Back to the doctor for me. I hear that this drug works very well for a lot of people, but it certainly didn’t in my case."

For ADHD "I cannot recommend this medication. While some may have found improvement while using it, all I have experienced is crippling migraines whenever I do the most simple of mental tasks. Even sometimes when not thinking at all. Headaches plague me daily ever since starting this drug, and only get worse when trying to use my brain. This is very counterproductive for someone with ADD. I was prescribed this to help focus, and all it has done is make me exponentially more irritable and bring me intense head and eye pain when trying to study or read anything. Lesser symptoms include some annoying random nausea, gas, bloating, and a total halting of my regular menstrual cycle. (Already checked, no, I'm not pregnant. I sure thought I was though.) Bupropion sort of made me feel like I had a small improvement in my overall outlook on life, but I'm thinking this had more to do with my brand new employment shortly after starting the medication, not the drug."
For Anxiety "My doctor prescribed bupropion for my anxiety. First, we tried the 150 XL, that didn't seem to work, so they upped it to 300 XL. I've been on it for almost three weeks, had two panic attacks, mild migraines, and nausea. I called and told them what was going on, and they lowered the dosage back to 150 XL. Note I've never had a panic attack before. I've had anxiety, but not to the point where I thought my life was in danger. I am planning on going off this medication when I see my PCP in two weeks."
