Bupropion for Smoking Cessation "I'm taking Zyban SR 150 mg twice a day. I started with once a day for 7 days on May 10, 2017. So I've been on it for 12 days. I have stopped smoking, which is the goal, for 3 days. Should I stop taking this medication soon? The side effects are overwhelming. I am flushed, have chest pain, a bad taste in my mouth, sweating, nausea, my head feels foggy, my ears have pain with a fullness feeling, I am constipated, and more. Will the side effects go away?"

Bupropion for Depression "I'm 29 years old, male on Wellbutrin 150mg SR. Initially, had nausea, but it went away after 2 days. I've noticed my sleep has vastly improved. I used to sleep 10 hours, sometimes more, and I still felt like I needed more rest. With Wellbutrin, I sleep 7-8 hours and wake up well-rested. Additionally, when 2-3 pm rolls around, I'm not begging for a nap. Concentration is much improved, mood is generally good, and I've lost 10 lbs. One warning I can give though is to NOT drink alcohol with Wellbutrin. It's not obvious at first, but the next 3 days it's back to depression, bad depression. Seems like alcohol blocks this medicine out. I can confirm this 2 times. Not sure if 3 hours of drinking is worth the 3 days of depression that follows after."

Bupropion for Depression "I have been on it for less than a week. The first week is supposedly the hardest. I've had a lot of lightheaded effects and a bit of nausea and muscle twitching. The more I give it a chance, the better I feel. I changed it up the last couple days and started doing the 150mg pill in increments, half a pill twice a day. It makes me feel much more balanced. I don't ever remember me having this much self-control. It's amazing."

Bupropion for Depression "I've been on Wellbutrin SR 150 mg for depression and anxiety. I was very hesitant to try another medication after negative experiences with other meds. I knew, however, that I needed more help than therapy alone, so I decided to give WB a try. Initially, I had some insomnia, nausea, headaches, and severe light sensitivity. However, these effects passed and were mild compared to how much better I felt. Within 4 weeks, I had more energy, felt less anxious, and the depression started to lift. I felt focused, peaceful, and content. All was well until about two months ago when some anxiety resurfaced (exams). The doctor tried to increase the dosage, but the side effects were terrible. So I remain on 150 mg, but still feel much better than my pre-WB days."

Bupropion for Depression "I'm finishing my fourth day on Wellbutrin. Never tried it before. I shared with my GP that I've been having feelings of impending doom-and my sales have decreased significantly with the current economy-worrying a lot. Since self-employment and impending doom are a bad combination, she suggested I try it. I'm 64, but my husband and I enjoy an amazing sex life, and I didn't want to mess that up. And I'm fit, so I didn't want to risk gaining weight. Since starting it (150 mg), I've had a few headaches and a few short periods of nausea. Sleeping is so much fun because the dreams are so vivid. So today, I've had amazing energy-no need for coffee-didn't even think about it. I've been really happy today. Has to be the drug. I can be very difficult and blow my top over little things sometimes, and I always feel so bad afterward. I'm praying this will help me keep things in perspective and not blow things out of proportion. My poor husband has suffered. So far, I would recommend it."

For Borderline Personality Disorder "I've been on Wellbutrin for over a year now. I stopped taking it at first because of the side effects (I was on 200mg), and I had gone through a pretty big life-changing period. I left my dead-end job and left my deadbeat boyfriend. I started to get very unstable again, going through very self-destructive bouts of depression and anger. I started again on 200mg, I basically became a zoned-out blob and went back down to 100mg SL. For the first week, I didn't eat, I had migraines, I was very irritable and twitchy. I was nauseous, constipated, restless, and had constant heart palpitations and dizziness. The bad side effects go away, I promise, it's so worth it. After a few weeks, one by one the side effects went away. I can now keep a regular sleeping schedule, my previous fear of food contamination is no more, and I can eat. I feel hopeful, I got myself a full-time job, I got into university, I feel I finally have a future. Unfortunately, though, I am super underweight, and it is not helping."

Bupropion for Depression "I’ve been on this medication for about a month now, and I got really lucky with my side effects. No nausea when I started (I always took it with food). I did feel a slight pressure in my head the first two weeks, but that subsided. My depression has only improved a little bit, which I’m hoping over more time that’ll improve. I still have a lack of energy and some trouble getting out of bed, which is a downfall. The biggest downfall of this medication is the NIGHTMARES. I’ve never been a person who had nightmares often before this, and now I suffer from sleep paralysis and very vivid nightmares almost every night, which is scary. On top of that, I can only sleep for maybe 5 hours before I naturally wake up, but I’m still tired."

Bupropion for Depression "I started on 150 mg for the first month and was raised to 300 mg after that. I began having weird side effects such as uncontrollable jaw clenching so hard it would give awful headaches. I also would violently twitch while relaxing before going to sleep. I experienced insomnia. Last, my sense of smell was very heightened and the smells would make me feel nauseous. I had suicidal thoughts even though I didn't ever want to do that. I continued to feel depressed, and in my opinion, it intensified my anxiety."

For Smoking Cessation "I've been on the medication for a week. I was taking one a day for the first week, and now into my second week, I'm taking two a day. My doctor recommended giving myself the week of getting the medication into my system and then picking my quit date. Two days into taking the medication, my cravings were cut drastically. Tomorrow is my quit date, and today, a week and two days later on the medication, I went from smoking almost two packs a day to smoking four today. I won't lie, I have a little bit of nausea, but it's helping me, and I'd rather deal with a bit of nausea and quit smoking than continue to smoke. One of my biggest fears was gaining weight due to quitting smoking, but this medication has helped cut back my appetite, and this week alone I actually lost three pounds because I'm not snacking. I definitely recommend this medication."

For Smoking Cessation "I started this medication about 5 weeks ago to stop smoking. I have been cigarette-free for a month. No cravings at all. My mood has improved. Maybe I had some borderline depression going on? I feel amazing. Happy, fun, and have a little more energy. I haven’t felt like this in a long time. I have lost 5-6 pounds in 5 weeks! Not sure if it’s decreased appetite or it’s causing me not to crave food. But I will take it either way. Sleeping great! Falling asleep every night fast, and I wake up happy/well rested. Increased libido-maybe just feeling better overall causes this. 9/10 rating because of the initial side effects. I had an odd taste in my mouth for about 3 weeks, some nausea for the first few days, and night sweats for about a week. Again, could have been related to smoking withdrawal as well. I don’t want to stop this medication and plan to keep taking it even though I am no longer smoking."

Bupropion for Depression "I have suffered from anxiety in the past. Since moving to a new town and hating it (we are military), I had fallen into an awful depression. Just not myself, no energy, and no ambition. I went on Wellbutrin (150 mg) 2 weeks ago. The first week was a bear! I was mean, had migraines, I was crying a lot, nausea, and I ate anything I could! I read on here to take it in the morning, and it made a big difference! Now, nausea is gone, no more migraines, my mind is clear, I have energy, and my appetite is way down! My doctor gave me no warnings about any of this. (I love this site!) I am hoping I am out of the woods with the side effects, but I will keep at it. Finding the right one is hard and may take time. Don't give up!"

Bupropion for Depression "I've been on Wellbutrin for 3 weeks. For the first 2 weeks, I had a few side effects: grogginess, kind of spacey, nausea, and weight loss because I wasn't hungry. I did notice some changes in my mood. I was less anxious and less depressed, but it wasn't the miracle that took effect immediately like I had read in some reviews. I read a review that was helpful, it said to stick it out for the first 4 weeks of side effects, and you'll be happy with the results, so I am. The side effects have worn off for me by the end of week 2. There is one unexpected side effect-irritability. I'd say it's comparable to PMS. Little mishaps can get my blood boiling, like spilling something, and it's hard to cool down. I never was like that before, but it seems to be subsiding as well. So we'll see!"

For Anxiety "I started Wellbutrin after my Celexa quit working after 5 years. I had a little nausea the first week. The second week was the hardest. I had uncontrollable bouts of sheer rage. When I spanked one of my kids out of anger, which I've never done before, I called my doctor, and she put me on Prozac. However, I decided to give Wellbutrin one more week. The rage issue resolved itself and went away. At week 4, I feel completely even-tempered. I love how this medicine makes me feel, and I take things far less seriously. I could only give it an 8 out of 10 due to the side effects when starting it."

For Panic Disorder "I got a Genesight test done to verify what I was taking was appropriate for my genes, and I have panic disorder and anxiety. I've tried 9 SSRIs, which made things worse, so my Dr. suggested trying Wellbutrin since it's different. It's been great. I'm focused, and I'm calm. I had nausea and drowsiness for the first 2 weeks, and then again when my cycle would start. It's been 10 months, and I can do things I used to not do, and I have more confidence."

For Bipolar Disorder "This was the first antidepressant I responded to when I started it back in 2012. Initially, it caused a little nausea, and again with each dose increase, but it was very mild and didn't last longer than a week. It brought me right up out of a deep, dark pit. At the time, I wasn't diagnosed with bipolar yet, so I wasn't taking any mood stabilizers. Once they realized I was, I was put on lamotrigine, and it has been a staple part of my medical regimen since then. I'm currently on 300 mg XL and 400 mg lamotrigine ER. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet!"

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I have major depression disorder and panic moments (that’s what I prefer to call them). I take 10 mg of Escitalopram and 150 mg of Wellbutrin XL spaced out by 2 hours. Wellbutrin was added as Escitalopram does not last 12 hours. I’ve been taking Wellbutrin for 2 weeks now, no side effects the first week, however, this week I’ve had: headache, nausea, my big toe gets a numbness or tingle. (I’m a runner, so this bugs me) frequent urination, a slight loss in appetite. I also get nauseous and gassy after I eat or drink coffee, and I seem to have more bowel movements but not diarrhea. Not sleeping through the night has happened twice. I can still have a panic moment if I think about things too much, so I use Clonazepam or Lorazepam when needed. I do not “feel” any different (in a bad way) since I’ve started taking it. I did try Zoloft, and it was a nightmare, so I know the difference. I would recommend trying it, but stopping if any wild side effects begin."

For Borderline Personality Disorder "I was on escitalopram for about 10 years, until I realized that my BPD was not under control anymore, with insane night sweats, extra procrastination, zero energy, oversleeping, and my social anxiety was back with a bang. My IBS was making my life a living hell with constant pain. My ADD spiraled out of control as well. Switched to Wellbutrin. 5 months in now. My energy is back, night sweats are gone, no rage or panic episodes to declare. I am productive again, and I can more easily maintain stable contractual commitments and work-related relationships. IBS is back to one or two mild flare-ups a week. I do have nausea and some dizziness as side effects, but nothing making my life insufferable. It was absolutely worth it for me."

For ADHD "Day 2 was great. Felt focused, motivated, cleaned the entire basement, rearranged the living room. After that, it was downhill. Sleep disruption, panic attacks at work and home, crying fits, agitated, paranoid, nausea, and headaches. They say to wait 4-6 weeks, but for the sake of my family, I’m done. If you are prone to anxiety, this is NOT for you."

Bupropion for Depression "I have been taking Wellbutrin for 16 months now. I started taking it when I was 7 months pregnant with my second child. I suffer from severe postpartum depression, so my doctor decided to start me on the Wellbutrin before I gave birth. It made an incredible difference! After giving birth the second time, I felt about 80% better than I did the first time. I have been taking it ever since. I had minor side effects of nausea and mood swings. I am so happy I continued with this medicine! Wellbutrin is an amazing medication, I recommend putting up with the side effects because the results are life-changing!"

Bupropion for Depression "I was on Wellbutrin years ago, and it helped. In the last couple of weeks, I have been suicidal and VERY depressed. My doctor put me back on the Wellbutrin, and 2 days later I'm ridiculously happy! I think it's worth the side effects, but some may not. I've experienced: insomnia, lack of appetite, horrible nausea, and incessant twitching (every 8 seconds or so). The insomnia is horrible. I've gotten about 2 hours of sleep in the last 3 days. Lack of appetite is okay with me, I needed to lose weight anyway! Ringing in the ears is something I'll deal with, but the nausea and twitching are the WORST by far. I look like I'm having a small seizure sometimes, and the nausea is just...ugh..."

For Anxiety "I was taking Bupropion SR for about two months for anxiety and depression. At first, my doctor started me off at 75 mg. When I first took it, the medication started to work right away, but the medication, for some reason, stopped working after about two weeks. My anxiety came back, and so did my depression. So, I called my doctor, and she switched me to 150 mg. I thought to myself, 'maybe the dosage was just low.' Again, the medication worked right away, but again, the medication, for some reason, only lasted about two weeks. I went back to my doctor, and she switched me to Prozac, and so far, it has worked pretty well. The symptoms I had with bupropion were nausea, diarrhea, and drowsiness. I don't think this medication was right for me, but everyone is different."

Bupropion for Depression "I started off on the Wellbutrin 150 mg XL twice a day, and I was exhausted every day, not to mention the nausea was so bad I had to stop taking it. Just started on Wellbutrin immediate release at 100 mg once a day, and it is a complete difference. I have so much more energy and focus, so far I love it. I do get a little headache by the end of the day, but it's not a big deal."

For Anxiety "I have never commented on a website like this, but I must say - if you have anxiety, DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. I took it for 2 weeks (today was my last day), and every single day has gotten progressively worse. Besides the nausea and dry mouth, I couldn’t get out of bed for 3 days because I convinced myself that I had no friends and everyone hated me. Panic attacks every day starting first thing in the morning. My anxiety has never been worse. I’m starting on Effexor tomorrow, so I hope I have a better experience with that."

Bupropion for Anxiety "Have only been taking for three days. Have some headaches, nausea, no big deal. I don't like the feeling after my second dose at night. I have gotten panicky and felt like I was going to have a panic attack, but have not so far. I am mainly using this to quit smoking, and I see that it is triggering my anxiety somewhat, but I have already lost the urge to smoke and will quit on my quit date. I would rather deal with side effects for a couple of weeks than die of lung cancer and leave my children with no mother. Especially after losing my mother at a young age and my grandfather. I am hoping this will help my depression and anxiety after I am used to it. I can't wait to be smoke-free soon."
