Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I have tried many different kinds of antidepressants, but I must say that Wellbutrin XL 300 mg has been the best. I have been on it for 3 years. I am so much happier and just feel better in general. The only side effect I have had while taking it is dry mouth. I was always a calm, attentive student even before I had the medicine. But since I have been taking it so long, if I happen to miss one or more days of taking it, I act as if I have ADHD. I am unable to focus and talk like a Chatty Cathy. If you have ever seen a little seven-year-old with really bad ADHD, that's me. I will skip in place, bounce up and down, and whatnot. I have NEVER had ADHD or ADD (I am super calm), but if I don't take it, I act like it. That's my one and only problem."

Bupropion for Depression "Wellbutrin worked very effectively in treating my depression. It lifted me out of a major depression I had been in for years. However, I am facing an issue because while Wellbutrin is great for treating my depression, the side effects are terrible. I am having excessive sweating all the time and extreme dry mouth. The dry mouth is causing bad breath and cavities. I am doing everything I can to combat the dry mouth and sweating with no avail. I was told the side effects will diminish over time, but it has been over a year and the side effects aren't any better. Does anyone know of effective ways to combat the side effects?"

For Anxiety "I have been taking bupropion for 6 weeks to treat anxiety and work-related stress. In the first 2 weeks, I had some side effects, such as severe stomach pain and dry mouth. They disappeared completely after 2 weeks. I take 150 mg/day. After 2 weeks on the pill, I didn't feel that great, so the dose was increased to 300 mg, but it only made me feel angry and explosive. The medication started to work its magic in the third week. I feel like I am in control of my life again, and work doesn't stress me as much as it used to. My anger outbursts are also under control. The 'I want to die' feelings are also under control. I feel really good and wanted to stop taking this med, as it is the first time I take any controlled medication, and I don't want to depend on it to live a normal life, but I decided to wait a little longer. The only downside to bupropion is that I have gained a couple of kgs in the past few weeks due to an increase in well-being and appetite."

Bupropion for Bipolar Disorder "I have been annoyed all the time since I can remember. Always a pessimist. I figured if I expected the worst possible scenario, anything better was a win. It was as if I was at war with the world, everything was a battle. I've been on Wellbutrin for 6 weeks now, 300 mg a day in 2 doses to start. It gave me ridiculously bad headaches (I suffer from migraines already), but my mood, interest, and general sense of well-being were better. My doctor changed me from 2 doses to 3 doses a day (still 300 mg). No more headaches but slight insomnia so far: 3-4 hours a night now, usually getting 6-7 hours of sleep. And I have dry mouth as well. I will deal with the insomnia and cotton mouth. To me, this is worth it."

Bupropion for Depression "I took generic Bupropion 150 XL from Dr. Reddy Pharmaceutical for 10 days. My doctor said there were no serious side effects. I might have dry mouth, she said, but it'll help with your loss of energy. The first two days, I certainly had dry mouth (and increased urination), maybe a little more energy, but on day 3, I started experiencing flu-like symptoms, awful body aches, diarrhea, vomiting, profuse sweating. I felt terrible! To make matters worse, my normally low heart rate (around 50 beats per minute) skyrocketed to 130-140. I felt delirious, and I immediately went off of it. I almost went to the ER, but I decided to stay home and monitor my own symptoms as I'm in healthcare myself. Currently, day two off of it, but I am still experiencing flu-like symptoms and now eye pain with dizziness. Thankfully, my heart rate is slowly going down. My biggest concern is with people who have high blood pressure. Do not go on this medication. Try a different one. These side effects are not worth it."

For Persistent Depressive Disorder "I have been taking this medication for about 2 weeks now. I was diagnosed with persistent depressive disorder (P.P.D.) and have been working with a psychologist along with my PC to get it under control. I have felt sad almost my entire life. So far, with this, I have more energy, and I'm not as 'snippy' or short with people. The downside thus far has been the lack of sleep. I wake up at 2 or 3 and just cannot get back to sleep. I have always been a great sleeper, 8 hours, no issues. But these last few weeks, it's been more like 4-5, if I'm lucky, I get 6. Another side effect I'm noticing is how dry my mouth is, it's terrible. But that is a small price to pay for not feeling like I just want everyone to go away (I still want that, but it's a lot less noticeable :P)!"

Bupropion for Depression "This medication was a miracle for me in the beginning. The only side effect I had was weight loss, which was an added benefit for me. It worked great for 3 years. I had to up my dosage from 300 to 450 once while I was going through some extra tough stuff, but I eventually lowered it back down to 300 mg. I recently moved to a different country, and very suddenly I had the WORST dry mouth! My teeth were literally rotting out of my mouth, and I couldn’t figure out why. Constipation was so bad, I’d be backed up for weeks and on the verge of going to the hospital. This medication is hard to obtain in this new country I moved to, so I had to switch, which I was sad about until I stopped taking it and the dry mouth and constipation subsided. What the actual heck?!"

Bupropion for Depression "I have been taking this medicine for over a week, and I do feel much more motivated and an overall sense of well-being. Side effects I have come across are dry mouth, or being thirsty - which helps to prevent any headaches. Early on, there was difficulty sleeping, but that comes and goes. I feel a little disoriented when I do wake up. Bowel movements actually improved. I don't recommend drinking while taking this. This was my first antidepressant, and I am very happy with the results so far!"

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "Does nothing for depression. Dried me out to the point of needing steroid eye drops and regular eye drops every 4 hours. I would also wake up every night with a dry mouth. Don't take if you have insomnia. More of my life wasted trying potions."

For Anxiety "I used to wake up every day feeling miserable and irritable. I found it hard to think clearly, concentrate, and just live a somewhat normal day. I was first put on sertraline, and that didn't go so well. I had really bad side effects (fatigue, depression, sporadic emotions). Took myself off that after about 2 months or so. I was then put on this medication! I saw results almost right away with 150 mg daily for about 1.5 months with some side effects including dizziness and dry mouth/always thirsty (which I can deal with!). Then, because I and my doctor felt there was room for additional improvement, I went to the 300 mg dose. It's only been about 1-2 weeks on the higher dose, but so far so good. No complaints! I can actually be free and feel normal again!"

Bupropion for Depression "I have had depression for over 15 years. Started because I was in a bad marriage. Then, with my divorce and losing my job after 25 years, my depression has just skyrocketed. I am seeing a psychiatrist, and she has had to increase my Wellbutrin to 400 mg a day, and I have noticed a big difference. The only concern they have with giving me that much is the seizure side effects are much higher. But I'm being monitored, and I've been taking them for a month, and so far the only side effects I notice are frequent need to urinate, confusion, headache, skin rash, hives, or itching, dry mouth, and honestly, I can live with those! I get suicidal thoughts when I'm not on them and have attempted suicide a few times."

Bupropion for Depression "I have found Wellbutrin to be the best for me. I've tried Zoloft, Lexapro, Cymbalta, Adderall, Vyvanse, Prozac, and Strattera. These others made me too agitated or too zombie-like. No dry mouth, no jaw clenching, no yawning, no RLS, no anxiousness, no headaches with Wellbutrin/Bupropion. Feel uplifted, more my old self, laugh and love easier, and anxiety a bit better. Less achy too! My long-term memory has even improved. I don't mind the vivid dreams, kind of fun. I do have some side effects which make me wish and plead for a lower dosage to be available. I'm taking 150 XL here in the USA. I really wish they'd make a 75 XL for sensitive types like me. I often get into a hyperfocus mode with this dosage of Wellbutrin. I can get a ton of reading done, internet research, etc., but then procrastinate things of higher priority. Please, manufacturers, please offer 75 XL as well. I think you'd be helping a ton of people."

Bupropion for Depression "I have suffered from severe depression for over 3 years, mood swings, irritability, loss of interest, huge lack of energy, absolutely no motivation, anxiety, paranoia, and panic attacks. I was prescribed 100 mg extended release 2 times daily, and it's amazing how quickly it works. I don't have nearly as many mood swings as before, I have tons of energy (once you are on Wellbutrin, you realize just how much depression really affects you without even noticing it), tons of motivation. (I used to debate whether I should do this or that, now I just do it, there's no question whatsoever). However, it did not help my anxiety or panic attacks. The side effects for me were a very annoying twitching and dry mouth. I have only been on it for a week, so time will tell."

For Weight Loss (Obesity/Overweight) "I've been on Wellbutrin for a few years for my mental health. It seems to work well. But the dry mouth is bad, I've cut back on smoking a lot! But I have gained 50 lbs. I think it's more from the Celexa I take for a mood stabilizer, though. Would love to go off the Celexa!"

Bupropion for Depression "I was on Prozac 20 mg, and because it made me feel so good, I would just stop taking them on my own accord, which made me crash. I decided instead of taking them seriously and continuing to take them, I would try Wellbutrin. The first two weeks were awful. I had ringing in my ears to the point where I wished I was deaf. My body was incredibly sore for no physical reason. I felt huge pressure and anxiety in my chest. I stopped working out and didn't want to do anything but lay in bed and watch Netflix, which is so not me. I am now 3-4 weeks in, and I don't have much anxiety, BUT I feel like I developed OCD. I can't stop cutting the tip of my tongue on my teeth, and it hurts. My mouth is so dry. I can't even put on eyeliner because it's like I have Parkinson's disease. I am going to switch back to Prozac today."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "Seven years ago, the antidepressant I was on stopped working, and I crashed into horrible major depressive disorder. My new doctor, guessing (wrong) that I had bipolar depression (I didn't), took me off antidepressants and put me on Latuda, an 'atypical antipsychotic' often used to control bipolar depression. Not only didn't it help the depression, but it also made me pace uncontrollably. I switched doctors, and the new one put me on Wellbutrin XL (long-acting). Eventually, my depression cleared, and I've been relatively depression-free (there are bad patches with any drug) for the past 7 years. I've had no noticeable side effects, and I take it with breakfast first thing in the morning, so it doesn't interfere with my sleep. I highly recommend it. (Full disclosure: I also take imipramine, an old 'tricyclic' antidepressant, a couple of hours before bedtime. Helps me sleep well, but the dry mouth side effect is annoying and bad for my teeth.)"

For Bipolar Disorder "My last medication, Velafaxine, stopped working, thank God! I was on it for four months, and in that time, I gained more than fifty lbs. Seasonal depression, dry mouth, unsociable, and had no interest. I started Bupropion HCL tabs to 150 and had a few side effects. The one that was so hard has stayed is restless sleep that wakes me up really early. Dry mouth, shaking in the morning, constipation, drowsiness, and I expect these should go away. But sleeping will be the hardest. I feel happy, doing projects, wanting to be with people, energetic, I'm back to charity running. And the weight is starting to come off. I was close to eating nothing with the other med. Give this a try. Gave my life back."

Bupropion for Major Depressive Disorder "I have been taking Wellbutrin for 10 months. I had 6 migraines in the first 10 days, but then the headaches stopped. I also had dry mouth for about a week when I started taking the 300 milligram tablet. After that, no side effects at all. Unfortunately, I have had no positive effects either. I feel as though I am taking a sugar pill. I am still dysthymic all the time and have had several depressive episodes lasting weeks since beginning this medication. I agreed to take it for a year, but I don't see any improvement at all."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I have wanted to die since I was in kindergarten. Perhaps longer. Now that I am college educated, I know they call that 'Major Depressive Disorder.' I fantasized about death every day, all day. I never understood why other people wanted to live. They perplexed me. The anxiety started when I was 25 and got worse, until I was breaking down in tears in public. Finally, I saw a doctor and was diagnosed. She put me on Lexapro. No dice. Next, she put me on Bupropion 150 mg twice daily. About 3 days later, the anxiety was gone. One week later, for the first time in my life, I spent a whole day without thinking of ending my life. How does a drug delete a thought? I don't know, but it did. I'm much happier with a much drier mouth. Lol!"

"I was introduced to this pill, bupropion, because I don’t like SSRIs. They really take your sexual drive away and make you a zombie where you can’t get anything done. The first time I took this pill, I was scared, however, within three days, I was up cleaning the entire house, dancing, and I had energy like it was going out of style. I also noticed orgasms happening without any intercourse. Also, my body stayed the same weight, and I didn’t gain a pound. Some of the side effects were mild in the beginning, like dry mouth, appetite loss for a week, up all night. Also, you can just stop this pill, unlike SSRIs, which you have to titrate off slowly without any horrendous side effects. You don’t feel like you're in a fog like Prozac or Zoloft. And it doesn’t take forever to kick in. I recommend this at a lower dose for any kind of ADD, seasonal depression, smoking cessation, and some anxiety."

For Anxiety "I have never commented on a website like this, but I must say - if you have anxiety, DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. I took it for 2 weeks (today was my last day), and every single day has gotten progressively worse. Besides the nausea and dry mouth, I couldn’t get out of bed for 3 days because I convinced myself that I had no friends and everyone hated me. Panic attacks every day starting first thing in the morning. My anxiety has never been worse. I’m starting on Effexor tomorrow, so I hope I have a better experience with that."

For Depression "I started bupropion a week ago today. I was feeling very depressed about life and the skin I am living in. There would be several days I would sit and cry for hours. I finally went to speak to a doctor, and she recommended this to me. I quit smoking cigarettes 6 months ago, but I do vape 6 mg of nicotine. I also told my doctor I wanted to lose weight, and my main issue was drinking soda and eating out. Since I have started, I have lost 12 pounds in one week! I have dry mouth, but it has helped me to drink more water! I love this medicine, and my mood has already begun to get better. This medicine has also helped me with ADHD. This is the all-in-one medicine. I take it every morning before work. I am excited to see the results in the future. If you are feeling down in the dumps like I was, I would recommend this to you."

Bupropion for Depression "I lost a family member, was in the last semester of college, working part-time, and the mild depression I had became a severe problem. I had dark thoughts and did not want to associate with anyone. Quit my job and had to apply for public assistance when my depression became a serious problem. I am now taking Wellbutrin XL 150 mg a day since May 11, and at first, I had a dry mouth but it only lasted a month. I have not lost weight and my appetite is good. I am feeling much better, but I think that one pill is not enough. Psychotherapy is also another help that goes hand in hand. Also, I stopped smoking a month ago. I also had to improve my lifestyle by doing exercise a few times a week, meditation, aromatherapy, and eating habits."

Bupropion for Depression "I experienced most of the side effects, thankfully, I didn’t have a seizure. I’ve been off a few days and am still having side effects. Made my heart race, chest hurt, chest pressure, dry mouth, and forgetting everything. This medicine, did however, help my depressed laziness. I had the get up and go and wanted this med to work because it gave me that. My chest still feels like a hippo is sitting on it."

Bupropion for Anxiety "I was put on a 150 mg dose about 4 weeks ago for mild depression/anxiety. I had dry mouth, headaches, spacey feeling, and nervousness, all of which added to my anxiety. I switched to 300 mg for 1 week, but the jitters increased, and I could have climbed the walls! Rarely felt like eating. It did not negatively affect my ability to orgasm (like Lexapro did), which was nice, but couldn't handle the side effects. Trying Cymbalta."
