Bupropion "It helped mostly with preventing morning sleep inertia and hypersomnia, but after 18 months on it, I stopped because it made me crave sweets/carbs and made it impossible to control my eating. I will now lose the 20 lbs I gained since starting Wellbutrin SR 150 mg."

Bupropion "This was my 'miracle drug' for severe seasonal affective disorder for maybe 6 years before it stopped working. The first dose was very overstimulating, but I had medications to counter that. The only side effect I noticed at first was short-term memory loss, but it didn't matter if I couldn't remember yesterday because I had a life I was able to enjoy. But as it stopped working, my memory got so bad that I couldn't read for two years because halfway through a sentence I'd forgotten what I'd read, let alone the sentence before it, so I couldn't string them together. In the end, I was taking 450 mg/day and was feeling very flat, unmotivated, mentally vacant, and emotionally numb - basically the opposite of how I felt when it was working at first. Now I am off of it and I noticed that my compulsion to play online games completely disappeared. Wellbutrin does still work when I increase the dose, but only for about a week. This winter I will try TMS."

"I gave up on antidepressants after only experiencing bad side effects for years. I can't take SSRIs, lithium caused my organs to fail, and antipsychotics give me akathisia. I decided to ask my doctor about starting meds again because I was really hopeless. My doctor was hesitant to start bupropion because I am recovered from an ED, but we gave it a shot and it has changed my life. I don't have to drink 4 cups of coffee to get through a day, I can get work done, and I can feel content. I've never had such a good result from an antidepressant. I take 300 mg XR daily. I lost 15 lbs and have been unable to gain them back. It's not a deal breaker, but I don't have any more pounds to lose. I also have constant tinnitus, which has become more bothersome lately. This might be making my migraines worse too, and my doctor is concerned I'm having partial seizures. It would be a 10/10 if I was sure that it's not causing these issues."

Bupropion "I have mixed feelings about this medication. I know so many people whose lives have been changed for the better by taking this. I, however, had the complete opposite experience. I wanted to try a non-stimulant route for my ADHD, but even at the max dose, it never fully helped. It motivated me to get out of bed and do my daily routine, but I never truly got anything done. The thing that really got me was the anger it made me feel. I have never been an aggressive person. My friends had told me they had been walking on eggshells with me, as well as my family. As with all antidepressants, how you react to them just depends on your brain chemistry. If you take this medication, PLEASE monitor your mood and how you react to things."

Bupropion "This medication saved me. I know it sounds dramatic and cliché, but it honestly did. After the first 2 days, I noticed a difference. Funny, I didn’t realize how depressed I was until the darkness started to lift, and I started feeling better. I was in so much pain mentally that I actually hurt physically, my body ached every morning. I was hurting so bad. I was tired all the time, I could hardly make it through the day, and I was in such a dark place I felt nothing could help me but death. It was that bad. I quit smoking and drinking, started exercising, and was shocked at how good I felt mentally. This might not work for you, I get that. There is no such thing as a miracle pill, we all have to give it a 100 percent too. It won’t work if you don’t work with it, it’s an aid, not a cure. Good luck to you all. Wishing you nothing but peace and happiness. It will get better. ❤️‍"

Bupropion "This is hands down the best medication I have EVER taken. I’ve been on a wide range of medications to manage depression and anxiety. They either cause weight gain, unbearable side effects, fatigue, or they just don’t work. It took about 2 days of Wellbutrin 100 mg twice a day to see a difference. I have lost a total of 13 pounds since November 1st. I’m so glad I took the advice to wait it out. The first few weeks were rough. Food was repulsing, and my stomach was kind of upset. But I have no side effects anymore, and the benefits are never-ending! More motivated and in a better mood. Please don’t give up on this medicine!"

Bupropion "I'm finishing my fourth day on Wellbutrin. Never tried it before. I shared with my GP that I've been having feelings of impending doom-and my sales have decreased significantly with the current economy-worrying a lot. Since self-employment and impending doom are a bad combination, she suggested I try it. I'm 64, but my husband and I enjoy an amazing sex life, and I didn't want to mess that up. And I'm fit, so I didn't want to risk gaining weight. Since starting it (150 mg), I've had a few headaches and a few short periods of nausea. Sleeping is so much fun because the dreams are so vivid. So today, I've had amazing energy-no need for coffee-didn't even think about it. I've been really happy today. Has to be the drug. I can be very difficult and blow my top over little things sometimes, and I always feel so bad afterward. I'm praying this will help me keep things in perspective and not blow things out of proportion. My poor husband has suffered. So far, I would recommend it."

Bupropion "I experience mild to moderate depression and anxiety that increases in relation to relationship and elder care challenges. I also have just felt a little bit sad all my life, like my happiness scale was set lower than the norm. After taking Wellbutrin for about 2 weeks, I started noticing feeling more calm and more moments of happiness. It took longer for annoyances to cause me to be snappy with my family. It has sustained over the 11 months I’ve been taking it. It feels like a 20% boost in happiness. The one thing it hasn’t helped with is the anxiety I experience while driving, but I don’t believe it’s indicated for anxiety - I could be wrong. The first few weeks I felt a little lightheaded or out of it, but I didn’t notice side effects after that. The reviews on this site led me to try it, so I wanted to repay the favor."

"I have mixed feelings about bupropion. In the first days after taking the medication, I felt like the best I've ever felt in my life, extremely energized, motivated, and happy. No sexual side effects whatsoever. The only side effect I had was a lack of appetite. Unfortunately, all those positive effects faded as time passed, and after prolonged use, there were no positive effects left. I'm currently studying psychology, and I have learned that dopamine receptors don't work in the same way as serotonin, which means it's easier and more effective to recapture serotonin than dopamine. I truly advise using this medication for short-term or sporadic use, for example, 1 or 2 times a week. If using that method, the tolerance won't build up, and it can help you go through your day. But I massively don't recommend using it for a long time or taking it every day. The effect will disappear."

Bupropion "I was prescribed Bupropion HCL XL (Wellbutrin) 150 mg for my postpartum depression. It worked very well! It didn’t work 100%, but it got me out of my funk, and I was able to be the mother I needed to be for my daughter. I have had normal depression since I was 14 years old (now 26), but I have never experienced something like postpartum depression (PPD) before. Motherhood guilt and dealing with the “loss” of my old life was so severe, I was borderline suicidal, was doubting everything I would do, I would cry mostly for no reason every single day, and to this day my memories from the first year of my daughter's life are very hazy. Don’t get me wrong, my daughter is and always has been my whole entire world, but motherhood and the adjustment to my new life was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through. After taking this medication for about two weeks, I started seeing the light again. I enjoyed being a mother to my daughter. Give it a try! I had no noticeable side effects. :) I take it every morning."

Bupropion "300 mg XR for roughly 5 years. Overall good experience, about 8.5/10. A family friend took me to a clinic after not getting up for multiple days on end. Started this medicine as a “why not.” Do not expect it to take effect for some time. I was told 6 months for the structural brain changes, and it may have even been a bit longer, however, you will feel effects much earlier, maybe about a month. Insomnia may be immediate. Very easy to use, it allowed me to wake up finally and experimented several times not taking it after I had established a better morning routine and would essentially be back to my useless state. This showed me it definitely was having effects. It didn’t feel as though I lost any part of myself while on it, but rather there was a bit extra. This leads me to my major negative, which was my increased aggression and overall emotional shortness. It became irrational while driving. Despite this, still better than being a lifeless blob."

Bupropion "I got prescribed Wellbutrin 150 XR as an add-on to my SSRI medication. My SSRI medication wiped my libido and gave me insomnia, so Wellbutrin was supposed to combat those bad side effects. For the first week or so of use, I felt slightly off from my usual self. I was hyper constantly, and my libido was through the roof. It wasn't anything I couldn't tolerate, though. I have now been on this medication for 1 1/2 years, and overall this medication has helped boost my mood and energy, helps me sleep better, and brings my libido back. Occasionally, for a week at a time, I will get no hunger signal, as in I feel hungry, but the thought of food isn't appealing, so I won't eat much and not notice. Though, this has been of benefit to me because I binge eat when my depression gets bad, so it has kept my weight the same. This is probably the best psychiatric medication I have ever used!"

Bupropion "This medication, for whatever reason, did not work for me at all. It was not a miracle drug for me, but rather something that made my depression something even worse to battle. Please be careful when starting this medication and know to stop taking it the moment you start having more frequent suicidal idealizations and just generally not being able to get out of bed. I was also on Citalopram at the same time and was actively managing my depression for a while before I started taking Wellbutrin, which then made my depression unmanageable before I took myself off of Wellbutrin."

Bupropion "If you're anything like me, you're scrolling these reviews, freaking yourself out over the bad reviews. I never wanted to take meds, but I gave them a try because I needed that extra help. Yes, the first two weeks suck. My anxiety skyrocketed, I was irritable, had dry mouth, and really bad brain fog. That's how it's going to be when taking a new powerful drug, your body needs to adapt. To be blunt, you just need to suck it up and push through, knowing these feelings will pass because they do. One day I was suicidal, so if that lasts more than a day or so, then yes, maybe it's not for you. Have a support system, friends or family, it helps a lot. Week 3-5, I felt no change, week 6 rolled around, and I felt GREAT. At peace, motivated, and clear-minded. I started with 100 mg, just went up to 50 mg. In order to heal, you NEED to pair medication with other help like meditation, yoga, exercise, therapy, and a healthy diet. I promise when you put that effort in, amazing things will come your way."

Bupropion "Almost quit taking it at first because of the headaches, insomnia, fatigue, and anger, but kept on taking it, and 2 weeks later, I’m happier, have more energy, I’m actually sleeping better than before I took it, and no longer angry. Really thankful for this medication. (P.S. Was taking 150 XL mg but didn’t notice the drastic change until I got on 300 XL mg.)"

Bupropion "I started this because I take 20 mg of Lexapro, but I have fatigue and lethargy with it. Basically, all SSRIs just make me lazy. My doctor said this would help. I only started a week ago, but I’m posting to talk about initial side effects. I prepared myself for the racing heart, anxiety, etc. that everyone says. Trying new meds is usually rough for me, but this one was fine! First day, 0 side effects. Second day, I was a little extra out of breath at the gym, which gave me anxiety, but other than that, I’ve been fine. Hopefully, it helps me once I’m experiencing the full effect of it. I take the extended release, by the way. That one is best to minimize the side effects."

Bupropion "I started taking Wellbutrin XL 150 about 6 months ago. My depression and anxiety were through the roof. We found out I have borderline disorder. Would drink 8-10 coffees per day. Very angry and moody. Anyhow, I will be tested for ADHD in a few weeks. 2 weeks ago we changed to Wellbutrin XL 300. It’s been a positive experience. Max 1-2 coffees per day. I remember stuff. I feel better. I am less impulsive. I feel like I am awake now. It’s been good so far. I am sure with a stimulant added to my Wellbutrin, I will experience what it feels like to be normal."

"I started taking 150 mg of bupropion HCl and it’s day 5. So far, I have noticed a difference in my mood, my appetite has decreased, my energy level is up, and I’m motivated. I still have some sadness, but it’s only been 5 days. I have tried several different medications, and they made me feel crazy. I can actually tolerate this medication. My side effects were dizziness, headaches, dry mouth, and my thought process seemed a little slow at times. Nothing that I can’t tolerate, and hopefully, will improve. So far, so good. I’m going to stick it out with this med."

Bupropion "Wellbutrin helped me. I have been hurting from depression for 5 months, and now after I upped it to 300 mg XL, I am not in pain from depression anymore, which is AWESOME! I wake up way too early, but I hope this is a side effect that will resolve. I also get very anxious 1 hour after taking it, and I hope that resolves, too. Been on it for 6 days. Also on 50 mg Pristiq in the morning and 10 mg Seroquel at night."

Bupropion "I took Wellbutrin/Bupropion XL 150 mg for only 5 days (5 doses) and have developed visual snow syndrome. I started noticing vision problems on the 3rd day, with severe afterimages/sensitivity to light. On the morning of the 5th day, I developed 'visual snow,' which was debilitating. I immediately stopped taking the drug at this time, as it stated to cease treatment if serious visual side effects occurred. The visual snow covers my entire vision with small red and blue dots (similar to static on an analog TV) and has also destroyed my night vision. If you search Google/Reddit/etc. for 'bupropion and visual snow,' you will see other reports from users that they have developed this condition. Everyone I have spoken to with similar experiences (including an ophthalmologist) has stated this condition is now permanent."

"I had the worst reaction I ever had to any drug: racing heart, anxiety, panic attacks (which I never had before), racing thoughts, and much more. Even after discontinuing the drug, I suffered from heart anxiety and hypochondriasis for a very long time. I wish I had never tried it. Keep away from it, especially if you have a tendency to anxiety and tension."
