"Taking a 9 week taper for collagenous colitis. I can't wait until I'm off of it. Many side effects, insomnia, horrible nightmares when I do sleep, weight gain, my fingernails are brittle and peeling. Back and shoulder pain."

Pulmicort Flexhaler (budesonide) for Asthma, Maintenance "With Pulmicort Flexhaler, my asthma is well-controlled, and I rarely need to use my rescue inhaler. It might be more challenging for young children, as it is important to exhale completely, inhale deeply, hold breath, and rinse mouth after use. I have not had any side effects. It is very expensive, if not covered by insurance."

For Eosinophilic Esophagitis "Been taking this for 2 weeks and have noticed some slight improvement via my esophagus not narrowing-down while eating most foods. However, this drug has mitigated the freedom from depression/OCD/anxiety that I take other meditations for (sertraline, fluvoxamine, ativan), and I have felt a great increase in those symptoms since a few days in with this drug... so I'm getting off this and hope to find something better!"

For Ulcerative Colitis "Budesonidice has been a life saver for me. The GI doc put me on this after a colon biopsy. Two months at 9 mg per day. I went off but the symptoms returned after about two weeks and escalated . He put me back on with 2 per day for a month. Then I have taken one daily for maintenance. Recently my pharmacy stopped selling the red and grey capsules and changed to the teva peach and orange and my colitis came back with a vengeance. Im back on 9mg day again. I have some of each generic. The Teva product is NOT the same strength or quality as the other red and grey. I have since tried each for a period and sympt. Symptoms consistently return w/I 2 days with Teva product."

For Crohn's Disease "I’m currently on 9 mg budesonide daily - for Crohn's disease. 3 3mg capsules in the morning. Doesn’t seem to control the diarrhea issues as well as prednisone did but the side effects are far less and different. Head aches and a tingly pins and needles sensation on my back"

For Ulcerative Colitis "This did nothing for me, except result in more diarrhea and lack of sleep. I found the side effects far worse than prednisone. I took it for five days at 9 mg/day orally. I felt edgy and the insomnia was horrible. I also had stomach cramps and more trips to the bathroom. I had to stop it."

For Autoimmune Hepatitis "I have been on this steroid budesonide for almost 6 months, taking 2 pills a day at 3 mg each. I have issues with red spotted dots under the skin, blurry vision that comes and goes, just started having my hair getting thin, a little swelling in the ankles, easy bruising, puffiness under the eyes, and I want to get off of them. I am gonna get to the bottom of why the REAL reason and cause if liver enzymes issues. A friend of mine had hormone issues, DHEA issues and has hashimoto disease, all of this elevated her liver enzymes. I am planning to have the same tests she had done to see what and if there are any issues with me also."

For Ulcerative Colitis "Had horrible side effects from Lialda and sulfasalazine, and no response from enemas incl cortifoam. On day 4 of bud and see no relief from urgency, blood or mucous. I was told to take one 3 mg/ day even tho Uceris script for 9mg. Will check with MD when they open. Uceris after insurance was $1,000. Generic was $250--which I thought was better, but not if I have to take 3 pills /day instead of one!! How does anyone find this affordable?"

Uceris (budesonide) for Ulcerative Colitis "It works really well for me when I'm not in too bad of a flare. I have been on it now for just over a year while I try all the different biologics, unable to get off of Uceris without flaring again. It takes a bit longer than prednisone to work so give it a couple weeks. It's been great for me while I try all of these biologic meds since they all take forever to see if they're going to work. I haven't had any side effects other than I started getting a ton of stretch marks for the first time in my life (I'm 37) and they kept coming even when I had stopped gaining weight. It's also been very difficult to lose much weight. I gained a ton while on prednisone a bunch over the past few years. I take the generic."

Uceris (budesonide) for Ulcerative Colitis "Terrific drug. I use the rectal foam every other day. My life is now completely normal. The drug, however, is expensive, costing $600 and up for a month's supply on the open market. My insurance company considers it a specialty drug. The last time I paid ca. $100 for a two-month's supply. But the actual amount of the drug in the box of two cylinders may last as long as three months if the drug is taken no more than three or four times a week."

For Crohn's Disease "I’ve been taking 3 capsules of 3MG a day for 5 weeks to help manage my Crohn’s before taking a biological shot. So far I haven’t noticed any difference and it doesn’t seem to be helping. The side effects are starting to get bad. I’m getting dizzy all the time, and have started to get nauseous and even starting throwing up. I get daily headaches too (Calling my doctor soon to get off of it)"

Pulmicort Turbuhaler (budesonide) "I was given this for COVID pneumonia. This gave me the worst stomach pain I think I’ve ever had. It felt like a gut punch and it took hours for the pain to settle down. Other side effects were; Horrible taste in mouth, extreme stomach ache (almost called 911), headache, irritated my atopic dermatitis, fatigue and an overwhelming sense of malaise. The only way I’d take it again is if I was dying."

For Inflammatory Bowel Disease "Taken this 3 times over the course of 3 years as well as Entocort and Predinsolone each one for several months. I found this does work for the first week or two but then gets less effective and my symptoms come back with a vengeance after that time. Also noticed that on all 3 my levels continued to rise in stool tests despite colonoscopy showing nothing visual so I would say it can work but not in all cases. Side effects of the first two drugs were a weakened immune system, tiredness and headaches in the later cycles."

For Inflammatory Bowel Disease "I have been on this drug for 3 months. Went through a regimen and weaned off. Began to have diarrhea immediately. Went back on one budesonide 3 mg pill. I have no appetite, have weakness, and nausea. Going to get off this pill and see if I can get to feeling better. I don’t think you are supposed to stay on this steroid."

For Ulcerative Colitis "I am on this for microscopic collagenous colitis. What about UTI symptoms? Anyone? Been on just over 3 weeks, symptoms improved, and 5 more weeks to go (3 tablets 3 mg each = 9 mg per day taking all at once in AM) and then started having UTI symptoms. Sometimes incontinence (not making it to the BR in time) and low back on right side cramping/throbbing). Urine sample resulted in NO UTI but general PA doc telehealth over weekend prescribed antibiotic and that stuff that turns urine orange. IT WORKED pretty quickly and now they messaged me through the Atrium portal that I do not have UTI, apparently they did a culture but who knows, and to stop taking the antibiotic! I don't want to stop taking it... its only a 5 day thing and I have 3 more days. I am confused if BUDESONIDE can mimick a UTI. This stuff is so crazy! anyone have the same issue? how does it resolve? thank you"

For Crohn's Disease "Was started on a very low dose of 9mg for 28 days, then down to 6mg for 28 days, and then down to 3mg for another 28 days. Didn't notice any change in the first month, other than helping joint pain and swelling. Stomach pain continued and was still finding it difficult to eat anything solid. Unfortunately by the second month, I'm feeling very agitated and have anxiety, unable to sleep much either so I'm going to ask my doctor to wean me off them. The side effects are outweighing any benefit I'm receiving."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I am able to consume food and liquids without vomiting or experiencing blood in the toilet. This is the first time in nearly ten years that I have been able to maintain a weight of 85 lbs or above. However, there are several side effects that come with this accomplishment. These side effects include a persistent runny nose for the past three months, mood swings and suicidal thoughts that make it difficult to sleep and enjoy life, constipation that lasts for 4-7 days, and unbearable bloating, cramping, and gas pains. Despite taking 290 mcg of Linzess, my irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) remains the only condition left to plague me. Other unpleasant side effects include adult acne, migraines, Bartholin cysts, skipped periods (despite having gained weight), unexplained bruises and cuts that refuse to heal despite not being anemic, thin skin on my face resulting in bleeding lines around my mouth and eyebrows if I try to groom them. During a recent out-of-town trip where I was without my medication for three days, I suffered a full-body edema attack that lasted for ten days. The process of tapering off my medication is also incredibly difficult and not to be taken lightly. I am counting down the days until I no longer have to endure these side effects, as they are taking a severe toll on my mental and physical health. I will never subject myself to this medication again."

For Ulcerative Colitis "GI doctors diagnosed me with IBS-D . None of the medications prescribed produced a solution. I was hit by repeated attacks of incontinence (diarrhea). My present GI doctor diagnosed me with microscopic colitis, for which he prescribed budesonide. It worked I have been using it successfully for about a year and a half. It is an off-label drug. not yet OK'd by the FDA for colitis. It has been ok'd for use for asthma for about 10 years but has not been ok'd for microscopic colitis. Therefore, I pay just under $400.00 a month for a medication that is generic placed on "Tier 4" in Medicare D. In 2016 I was billed just under $200.00 for the same quantity .No other drugs are effective. This one is too expensive"

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I took 8 weeks of the Oral Budesonide and absolutely ZERO change. I have taken all the different meds, suppositories, prednisone etc. I'm going to try Chinese herbs first - if no luck - I guess its biologics but they scare me. I have had this illness for over 30 years with much of it spent in remission ;however, this last year has been worse than ever!"

For Crohn's Disease "I have been taking Budesonide for 1 week so far and symptoms are beginning to subside. However, gluten free also relieved my symptoms of arthritis, joint pain. Gluten is the cause of all my health problems and causes all inflammation. Go gluten free for three to five weeks and see how good you feel. I wish I would have been told this sooner instead of suffering."

For Inflammatory Bowel Disease "I am newly diagnosed with collagenous colitis. Prescribed budesonide for two weeks, then off for two weeks, symptoms came back. Now on medication for another two weeks, works great. I'm to let the doctor know before two weeks is up how it went. A guessing game with this colon dysfunction. Question: how is it for long term maintenance? A blessing of relief!"

For Eosinophilic Esophagitis "I was on this steroid for about 2 months. Saw no improvement in the tight feeling in my throat. In fact, after I would swallow it, I’d notice it made my throat feel raw. I think it made the EOE worse as it hindered the actual healing of the irritation and inflammation. Had to take it upon myself to wean off of it. My doctor was of no help."

For Crohn's Disease "Budesonide was not able to control my Crohn's flare and I had to move on to more powerful drugs. I noticed a slight improvement after 2 weeks, but it was never able to get me out of the flare. On a positive note, my only side effect was dry mouth. I'd say it's worth trying if you can get insurance to cover it since the side effects are minimal and it works well for some people."
