"I have celiac and monitor my diet very closely. I've had bouts of severe diarrhea lasting 30 to 100 days. Started when I was 20 (45 years ago!) and usually resurfaces 2 or 3 times a year. Condition became intolerable 10 years ago when very occasional fecal incontinence started. Welchol helped sometimes, reducing alcohol, caffeine, NSAIDs helped sometimes - but symptoms would still return 2 or 3 times a year with a duration of 10 - 60 days. About 3 years ago I was finally diagnosed with MC (lympho.) and prescribed EC budesonide. I take 9 mg generic in the morning and continue for 2 weeks after symptoms are resolved. My symptoms resolve in 2-3 days. This med is extremely effective but understand my condition is chronic. It's not a cure for me but I will rely on it when I have flare-ups. I keep boatloads of Pepto-Bismol and Imodium on hand - and will probably always rely on them for fecal control when an episode starts."

For Ulcerative Colitis "I am on this for microscopic collagenous colitis. What about UTI symptoms? Anyone? Been on just over 3 weeks, symptoms improved, and 5 more weeks to go (3 tablets 3 mg each = 9 mg per day, taking all at once in the AM), and then started having UTI symptoms. Sometimes incontinence (not making it to the BR in time) and low back on the right side cramping/throbbing. Urine sample resulted in NO UTI, but general PA doc telehealth over the weekend prescribed antibiotic and that stuff that turns urine orange. It worked pretty quickly, and now they messaged me through the Atrium portal that I do not have UTI, apparently, they did a culture, but who knows, and to stop taking the antibiotic! I don't want to stop taking it... it's only a 5-day thing and I have 3 more days. I am confused if budesonide can mimic a UTI. This stuff is so crazy! Anyone have the same issue? How does it resolve? Thank you."

For Crohn's Disease "After taking it for a week, I have diarrhea and cramps. I take one in the morning before breakfast, one before lunch, and one before dinner. I better take prednisone. Wondering how many days it takes to take effect. Before that, I had a three-week flare, now, 8 days it flares, and it is expensive too."

For Crohn's Disease "Budesonide was not able to control my Crohn's flare, and I had to move on to more powerful drugs. I noticed a slight improvement after 2 weeks, but it was never able to get me out of the flare. On a positive note, my only side effect was dry mouth. I'd say it's worth trying if you can get insurance to cover it since the side effects are minimal, and it works well for some people."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I am able to consume food and liquids without vomiting or experiencing blood in the toilet. This is the first time in nearly ten years that I have been able to maintain a weight of 85 lbs or above. However, there are several side effects that come with this accomplishment. These side effects include a persistent runny nose for the past three months, mood swings and suicidal thoughts that make it difficult to sleep and enjoy life, constipation that lasts for 4-7 days, and unbearable bloating, cramping, and gas pains. Despite taking 290 mcg of Linzess, my irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) remains the only condition left to plague me. Other unpleasant side effects include adult acne, migraines, Bartholin cysts, skipped periods (despite having gained weight), unexplained bruises and cuts that refuse to heal despite not being anemic, and thin skin on my face resulting in bleeding lines around my mouth and eyebrows if I try to groom them. During a recent out-of-town trip where I was without my medication for three days, I suffered a full-body edema attack that lasted for ten days. The process of tapering off my medication is also incredibly difficult and not to be taken lightly. I am counting down the days until I no longer have to endure these side effects, as they are taking a severe toll on my mental and physical health. I will never subject myself to this medication again."

For Eosinophilic Esophagitis "I was on this steroid for about 2 months. Saw no improvement in the tight feeling in my throat. In fact, after I would swallow it, I’d notice it made my throat feel raw. I think it made the EOE worse, as it hindered the actual healing of the irritation and inflammation. Had to take it upon myself to wean off of it. My doctor was of no help."

For Crohn's Disease "I have been on this medication for about 4 weeks now. I take 3 capsules of 3 mg a day. I started feeling a little better after about a week and a half. I have not had any side effects, which is great! It has only helped very little, though. I have a little less inflammation and no colon spasms, but I am still in pain. I will take it for one more month and see how it goes."

"Made me feel much better. I am being treated for sarcoidosis, granulomas in the lymph nodes. After just 24 hours of starting with 3 capsules every morning. Before, I had nausea, feeling full after a very small amount of food, discomfort in the abdomen after even a drink of water! I lost 30 lbs in 4 months!"

Budesonide "On Entocort for 8 years. Worked perfectly. Tried to get off and diarrhea returned. Then Perrigo sold to a company in France. I can only get generic Budesonide EC now as a replacement. It does not work very well at all. Please! Will someone buy it back so we can get it in the United States? Please! It gives us sufferers quality of life."

For Crohn's Disease, Active "I have had Crohn's for over forty years. I have taken prednisone for flare-ups but very little other medications. I have had a few major flares in the last 5 years that have landed me in the hospital. My GI doctor put me on budesonide for 2 months. During that time I had greatly reduced symptoms. This week I finished the course of budesonide. Within 3 days of discontinuing the drug, my symptoms of bloating, gas, lower right abdominal pain, and GERD have returned. The change was dramatic. It has only been a few days, but I'm wondering what the long-term effects of budesonide are."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "Took 9 mg tablets for 8 weeks. Doctor told me to stop cold turkey, no taper. A few days later, feeling extremely unwell: fever, confusion, swollen legs, irregular heartbeat. Went to GP, told to go straight to the hospital, pulmonary embolism, DVT. 5 days in the hospital, over 5 months later, still recovering. Should taper from 9 mg, be mandatory."

For Asthma "When I first started taking it, it worked great. The longer I took it, I noticed it was immediately making me sleepy/tired. Also started having some hot flashes (sweats) and build up of mucus in the throat. I looked up the side effects online and read that these are some of them. I am going to stop using it."

For Ulcerative Colitis "My ulcerative colitis has been controlled using budesonide for the last nine months. The major downside has been the 45 pounds of weight gain that has occurred during this time. I was not aware that this could happen."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I use budesonide once a day combined with albuterol in an inhalation machine. I choose to use it in the morning thinking it helps me to breathe during the day. It takes about 30 minutes for the treatment. I have a chronic hoarse voice from inhalation, increased urination at night but lessened if I use my CPAP. I have a little skin bruising made worse by playing with the dog. If I don't use it for a week, I find myself very short of breath, therefore, I like it and need it."

Budesonide for Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy "Seems to be helping my husband's IGAN - much lower protein levels and normal kidney functions, but the side effects are difficult and concerning. He has tendon cramps, fatigue, increased hunger, significant weight gain, and now elevated AST levels. Not sure where to go from here."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I have had terrible diarrhea for 7 months this time, and the NP put me on 90 mg a day and also put me on Metamucil, 1 Tbs a day. The diarrhea this time was like urinating through my rectum, and the budesonide so far has helped the diarrhea. It is now a very soft stool. I have only been on it for 3 weeks. This is not my first time. I was on it two and a half years ago for diarrhea as well."

Budesonide for Asthma, Maintenance "I’ve been taking Pulmicort Flexhaler since it was first introduced in 2006. It’s truly been a game changer for me to control my asthma. I can’t remember the last time I needed to use my Ventolin rescue inhaler, even with a cold or flu. Unfortunately, my insurance no longer includes it in their formulary, and I was forced to switch to another steroid inhaler. I hope Pulmicort becomes generic soon because it’s super expensive without insurance coverage. It’s been a great medication for me, and I will truly miss it."

"Very helpful, had taken Uceris in the past, but unable to get it. This medicine is probably the most helpful I have been given to take. It does cause some bowel movements to be difficult, and you must drink plenty of water to avoid constipation."

For Crohn's Disease, Active "I have taken budesonide capsules for two months for treatment of Crohn's disease. I have experienced less stomach cramps while on it and fewer trips to the toilet. Unfortunately, the side effects have been daily heart palpitations and chronic headaches. I have only managed 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night over the course of treatment due to waking up with a rapid heartbeat. I will be having an ECG ASAP. Colonoscopy booked."

"I have taken budesonide for about 7 years. Initially, there were no side effects, but now I have severe insomnia. Last night, for the first time, I did not sleep at all. This makes me very tired and ruins my day. I only take one pill in the morning, though the prescription states I can take 2 pills. I would prefer not to take the drug, but according to my doctor, budesonide is the drug that works for my condition. It's difficult for me to rate the drug, since it's the only one for my condition, but insomnia is something I cannot live with for the long term."

Budesonide "Entocort is very difficult to get off. It will take several months, and any misstep will set you back with diarrhea to the beginning. I had heart medications to take and should never have started Entocort. The timing between pills was complex and conflicted with my heart pills. Moreover, the anti-diarrheal in Entocort is only strong for 4 hours, and the first half-hour it is starting up, while the last half-hour is winding down. It conflicted with my heart pills and vitamins for an hour before and 2 hours after. I would become bloated with gas. If you don't have conflicts, it may be working on the inflammation. None of this information is explained before starting. It should have been on a prep sheet sold with the medication with potential problems. If you have one basic problem and are willing to take it for life, it sounds like it works from other reviews. I had it under control with diet before the heart complication and hope to get there again."

Budesonide for Crohn's Disease "I've had Crohn's disease for 47 years. Entocort works great for calming acute symptoms in just a few days. I'm able to live a normal, pain-free life with it. I just wish it wasn't so expensive."

Budesonide for Crohn's Disease "Entocort is used as a bridge therapy to settle severe flares. It brings almost complete relief within 2-3 days, but it's just temporary as you can't stay on this drug for long periods of time."

For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I took 8 weeks of the oral budesonide and absolutely zero change. I have taken all the different meds, suppositories, prednisone, etc. I'm going to try Chinese herbs first - if no luck - I guess it's biologics, but they scare me. I have had this illness for over 30 years, with much of it spent in remission; however, this last year has been worse than ever!"
