For Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I have had diarrhea for months. They put me on Bentyl, but it did not help. I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy, and my biopsies were all negative, but I was diagnosed with collagenous colitis. My GI doctor prescribed budesonide 9 mg a day. My insurance said they did not cover it! I checked my prescription handbook, and it said it was covered, but only at 3 mg. So my doctor prescribed the budesonide 3 mg, and I take three each morning. And my copay was $8! Today is my first day taking three 3 mg of budesonide. Can anyone tell me how soon you felt it working? Thank you."

Budesonide for Asthma, Maintenance "My daughter has used it since she was 6 months old. However, I am unable to consistently give her the treatment because it is too expensive. It's too bad that something that can really help to keep kids from suffering costs so much that hardly anyone can afford it. Insurance pays half, and I still have to pay $287/mo."

For Ulcerative Colitis "I have collagenous/microscopic colitis and have used this medication on and off for 6 years. I really haven’t had any side effects that I realized. I completed a 3-month dosage on Dec 29, 2018. I was diarrhea-free for about 2.5 weeks, then it slowly started again, so I am back on it. I am on Medicare. I found out using a Drug RX coupon works. However, you must have your doctor write the prescription for 90 pills x 3 per day for only 30 days. If it goes over 30 days (31 or 90 days), it will be over $300. But it is written for 30 days, mine is only $100. The key is the number of days, not the amount of pills in the prescription. Crazy, isn’t it? Someone is making lots of money off of this. Check with your Medicare insurance about the number of pills vs. the number of days. There should not be tiers for drugs on Medicare. Medicare needs to be revised for drug prices."

For Ulcerative Colitis "I was diagnosed with this microscopic colitis three years ago, and the only medication that has helped me is budesonide. Well, I was on it for three months, and I finally felt like myself again. Then my doctor informed me that I should stop, which I did. After a couple of weeks, I had the same symptoms again. Because it is a steroid, it should not be used for any length of time, I was told. So, like most everyone else, I had tried Apriso, Lialda with no relief at all. I am now starting again with budesonide for another course of treatment. For me, I put on weight and got lots of nasty black hairs around my chin, which I didn't like. That is one of the reasons why I don't look forward to taking this again. However, I will use this again for a rest."

"I was diagnosed with colitis over 10 years ago, I took budesonide the whole time. Then I found myself without insurance. I could not afford it and have not taken it for 18 months. My problems came back with a vengeance. I had a colonoscopy this month and was told it is severe. I just picked up my prescription and am so grateful for relief soon. It is very expensive even with insurance. But I need this to get me back to feeling better."

Budesonide for Ulcerative Colitis "I have had UC for over 20 years. Been on Remicade, Humira, Xeljanz, Asacol, prednisone. You name it, I tried it. I am now strictly on Lialda and have been in a flare for about a month. I was prescribed Uceris, and the problem I have is, since I have severe urgency, it is hard to keep the foam from wanting to come back out. My UC is in the lower colon, and I go to the bathroom between 10 and 20 times per day. It is very painful to try to hold in the foam. Suggestions?"

Budesonide for Asthma, Maintenance "I can tell a marked difference when I am without this, in between prescriptions. This takes the usage of my rescue inhaler down significantly. No negative side effects for me. Expensive, but worth it as peace of mind for someone whose asthma is a daily nuisance."

Budesonide for Ulcerative Colitis "My physician prescribed budesonide originally for my Ulcerative Colitis, but I felt the out-of-pocket price for this RX was out of the ballpark. So, after contacting my physician again, they gave me a RX for Uceris and sent me information to assist in the cost. But after my insurance coverage and the $600 that the 'coupon' that was sent to me, the total still came to over $200.00 for 30 days. I have a copay of only $20.00, but since some entity seems to have the cost of this RX, I have not been able to afford it and see what help it is."

Budesonide for Eosinophilic Esophagitis "I have an unexplained food allergy that causes my esophagus (only esophagus) to close up completely with food in it. Cannot swallow saliva, as it builds up and makes me gag and choke as it goes down my windpipe when it builds up high enough. I was instructed to take 9 mg (3, 3 mg capsules) by removing the pellets from the capsules and eating them without water so they touch my esophagus directly. No side effects that I notice, and it makes me able to eat. A Godsend - a must-have for me."

Budesonide for Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I have faithfully taken 4 Lialda 1.2 mg every day for 8 years. I tried all medicines such as Asacol, 6-mp, etc., and had to discontinue due to side effects. I also use the Rowasa enemas/suppositories temporarily, and when stopped, the rectal bleeding starts again and worsens every day. I have never been in remission with Lialda. I started the Uceris on 12/04/14, and I felt better than I had ever felt since the diagnosis in 2003. Two weeks into Uceris, legs and ankles swelling. Continued Uceris and praying swelling was temporary, then had shortness of breath and fluid buildup in my chest. The swelling was unbearable. I stopped the Uceris; swelling subsided in 5 days. I do not want Remicade or Humira due to side effects. Why Lialda; no remission for 8 yrs."

For Crohn's Disease "I have been taking budesonide for 1 week so far, and symptoms are beginning to subside. However, gluten-free also relieved my symptoms of arthritis and joint pain. Gluten is the cause of all my health problems and causes all inflammation. Go gluten-free for three to five weeks and see how good you feel. I wish I would have been told this sooner instead of suffering."

For Ulcerative Colitis "I suffered frequent diarrhea, gas, and stomach pains for four months and lost 25 pounds with collagenous colitis. Finally started on budesonide at 9 mg a day for the first month, then 6 mg for month two and 3 mg for month three. This dosage tapering-off approach is important when taking steroids. It took 2 weeks before it started to work, but then my symptoms began to abate and became fully resolved by the end of month three with zero side effects. After I stopped the medication, the symptoms started to return after two weeks, and I thought I was doomed, but I took some Imodium and that did the trick. I have been symptom-free for 8 months now. Thankfully, I have a drug plan and live in Canada, so I only had to pay a very small amount for these very expensive pills."

Budesonide for Ulcerative Colitis, Active "This is my last week using the Uceris foam. I have not noticed any significant differences over the past 6 weeks while using this. So unfortunate because I thought since the foam was going right to my ulcers, it would really heal them, but instead I’m still going to the bathroom 6-10 times a day with fresh blood, painful gas, and pressure. Doctor said my next choices are switching my diet drastically, prednisone, or a biologic. Scared of biologics but think prednisone and a different enema will really help. Wish me luck!"

Budesonide for Ulcerative Colitis "I felt like I was going into a UC flare, so my doctor told me to take Uceris for two months. We wanted to avoid the harsh side effects of pred. (Just found out I have osteopenia at 23 because of my pred usage.) Within a week of me taking it, I started having extremely watery stool... I would go 10-15 times a day and dealt with this for the two months (the duration of the Uceris course). My doctor finally tested me for C-Diff, and I was positive! I can’t imagine I got the C-Diff from anything BUT using this medicine because it happened a week after I started. I’ve never had C-Diff in the past. It was a NIGHTMARE! Because I got the infection, it put me back in a horrible flare-the combo sent me into the hospital for a week. I’m currently doing the Uceris rectal foam, and that is working WONDERS for me!! My affected area tends to be in my lower colon, so the foam put me into remission after about two weeks! Zero side effects."

Budesonide for Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy "Drug lowered my protein levels without having weight gain. This was something I was concerned about. A side effect I did have, but it's not listed here, was sensitivity to cold beverages for my teeth. I suspected that the drug was the root cause during the nine months I took it. Sure enough, the issue was gone once I was taken off it."

Budesonide for Ulcerative Colitis "I have UC for 12 years. I was in remission for a few years, and then all of a sudden, I had a flare-up. I have been on this medication for almost 2 months. When I first started on it, it helped for like a week or so. I had swelling in my face and joints, sore muscles, and headaches. My doctor told me to stick with it so my body could adjust properly, and it helped but didn't stop my issues. For the last week, I have been going to the bathroom 10 times a day. My doctor and I are now trying to figure out the next step."

For Autoimmune Hepatitis "After 3 years on prednisone for autoimmune hepatitis, I have been switched to budesonide for another 3 years. I started at 9 mg and eventually tapered to 3 mg. I lost all of my prednisone weight (20 lbs) in about 3 months. My moon face went away. My hair started growing straight again. It has been amazing to get relief from these side effects. Even better, my liver enzymes are lower than ever!"

Budesonide for Asthma, Maintenance "Dr. started me on this for adult late onset asthma. I was 46 when diagnosed. The first week was good and my breathing improved. Then I started to get a burning sensation in my chest. After the 2 weeks, I knew something was not 'right', the burning sensation was lasting for 2-6 hours after a treatment, and I had the worst swollen sore throat. I stopped treatments, and my throat soreness was gone within 4 days. I was switched to a different powder inhaler that then gave me hives. Hate my new disease!"

Budesonide for Asthma, Maintenance "Pulmicort works well for my asthma. The problem is it can cause thrush or just a coating on the tongue. So I rinse with water thoroughly immediately after inhaling. Then rinse with Biotene. This really helps with the coating on my tongue."

For Ulcerative Colitis "I have been taking Uceris for 3 weeks for my ulcerative proctitis. It has not given much relief yet, but I see some reviews here that say it took weeks to work for some. I notice no side effects at all so far. I was first given prednisone, and that was working well, but my doctor was worried about problems from long-term usage. I was shocked at the price. At the pharmacy, for a 30-day supply, it is $1,815.00. Thankfully, with my health insurance, my co-pay is $10.00."

Budesonide for Asthma, Maintenance "Pulmicort works beautifully, really stops the cough. I took it for 3 months. Then I lost my sense of taste, and by the end of the 4th month, I developed the most awful taste in my mouth, so I stopped it. The horrible taste gradually disappeared after one year, and my sense of taste has 'almost' come back. It has now been 17 months since I stopped the medicine. My coughing is not gone when I exhale, but very much improved and no attacks. It's the only medicine that works for me during attacks. I think once I improved, I should have cut the dose way down."

For Eosinophilic Esophagitis "My husband uses budesonide for his nasal polyps, and it’s helped him. He can breathe better and even smell a little. My son uses it for his Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE). I have to mix it in syrup to make a slurry. It’s a pain, but it seems to be helping. He is starting to eat more and not need formula fed as much (he’s 7). I think it’s helping. We find out for sure in about a month. I’m giving it a 7 because it helps my husband, and my kiddo is finally eating again."

For Ulcerative Colitis "With my insurance from AARP, I used to pay $352 for the 3 mg using three per day for one month. Today at Walmart, they charged me $767.76!!!!! I have been taking prednisone for the last six months, but do not feel comfortable taking this steroid for long-term since my condition is from celiac, causing my colitis. The pharmacist informed me that this, along with many other pharmaceuticals, has doubled their pricing. This is absolutely unaffordable for people with my problems. Isn't there any type of coupons or discounts that I can get? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you."

For Autoimmune Hepatitis "Changed to budesonide from prednisolone as I couldn't tolerate the side effects of the pred. I've been taking 3 mg of budesonide for autoimmune hepatitis for the past 5 weeks. I'm feeling very tired to the point of exhaustion, nauseous, bruising easily, moon face, and various other mild aches and pains and feeling very low-spirited. Some days worse than others. Hoping to come off this drug soon, but worried about feeling worse through the reduction phase."

Budesonide for Ulcerative Colitis, Active "I’ve battled this illness off and on for 16 years and have pretty much tried it all. I’m usually in full remission when I’m just on Remicade and Lialda (unsure how effective this really is), but I recently was forced to postpone my scheduled bi-monthly Remicade and promptly fell ill. I was able to get the Remicade at about week 11, but by then was in a full-blown flare, so it didn’t throw me back into full remission as I was still bleeding, had rectal pain, and frequent trips to the bathroom. I was prescribed this foam, and within 2 days noticed a substantial improvement without all the side effects of oral steroids like prednisone (horrible drug). Highly recommend this if your pain and inflammation is in your rectum/sigmoid. You can ask for lidocaine lubricant too to apply on the applicator for peace of mind."
