For High Blood Pressure "A dangerous drug. It's supposed to help with palpitations, but it actually gave me worse arrhythmias and breathlessness that led me to the ER. It also causes severe anxiety when trying to wean off it. Don't let your doctor prescribe you this rubbish as there are better alternatives out there."

For Supraventricular Tachycardia "I got put on bisoprolol 1.25mg after spending a night in hospital with a heart rate of 167, refusing to go down for 6-8 hours, and then suffering nightly palpitations for days after, which were waking me up. Placed on them while under investigation with tests. While bisoprolol helped stop the episodes for 4 months, I didn't realize how ill they were making me. I've now been off them for 4 days with advice from my doctor. I was planning to switch but do not need to at the moment. Here are some of the side effects I was experiencing on the medication, which have mostly gone away after stopping them. More symptoms appeared over time. Started with blurred vision, eyes became sore and swollen especially in the mornings, eye twitching started in one eye, then second. Muscle twitches in hands and feet. Veins enlarging in hands. Waking up every morning feeling breathless and tightness in my chest. Brain fog. Could feel and hear my heartbeat even while low. Heart rate dropping below 60. Weight gain."

For High Blood Pressure "Brought my blood pressure down from 170/110 to normal levels fairly quickly (under a week). However, started to notice side effects, particularly fatigue, shortness of breath, weight gain, and some loss of libido. Tried a 1/2 dosage for a week or so, and symptoms dropped a little, but not enough for my liking. Also, the blood pressure started to creep up with just a 1/2 dose. Although the drug was effective, I will probably seek an alternative med for my blood pressure."

"Started taking 5 mg of Bisoprolol for AF, which has returned after 18 months of me being free from the condition after DC cardioversion, but woke up the following morning with a dead left foot due to bad circulation! I have dizzy spells when getting up, and worse of all, shortness of breath when doing very little (I've played squash all my life, and even with AF, I never had this problem). I'm now going to half the dosage to see if things improve."

For Heart Failure "I was first on metoprolol 25 mg succinate for POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), and it worked well but made me gain 14 pounds in about 2 months, despite eating healthy and exercising. Bisoprolol 5 mg fumarate is what I was switched to, I take 1/4 every 6 hours and it works well. I do think it contributes to my shortness of breath, but it’s manageable and not every day. I haven’t noticed weight gain, I’ve lost 4 pounds while on it, so that’s good. Overall, I’m happy with it, I just hope I can stay at this dose and it still be effective for me as time goes on."
