"I've been on Qvar 40 for 4 years because of drastically out of control asthma. It works great for controlling the asthma, but it aggravates a heart condition that I have - PVC - so I'm unable to use it as prescribed. Instead of twice a day, I use it once every other day. About 2 months ago, I ran out and couldn't afford to get to the doctor for a new prescription, so I just went without it. My breathing got so bad that I felt like I was living on my rescue inhaler. I just finally got my new prescription today, and after one use, I'm already feeling better. The only downside to this medication is the cost, and since I don't have insurance, it's all out of pocket."

"I find Qvar has made a big difference and is helpful, but after a few purchases, I feel like I'm renting my own lungs-this stuff is so expensive...why? My insurance won't cover it...why? I did some research and found that pharmaceutical companies around 2008 paid about $500K to lobby to ban cheaper fluorocarbon dispensers (like Primatene Mist) and were victorious, which led to them changing their own formula for the dispenser medium (no expensive new testing?), which resulted in new formula patents, which got them exclusivity and no competition, which resulted in them feeling free to raise prices for years. Thanks, Teva, and our lawmakers, for assuring corporate profits and stockholders' happiness at the expense of your own customers' health issues that cannot be treated with alternative or competitor options, it is much appreciated. Thanks for a good product, but your profits taken at the expense of your customers' health, I sure hope they at least help you breathe easier tonight."

"The Qvar RediHaler dispensers keep stopping and do not work properly; keep having to use a rescue inhaler because these things do not work correctly! Supposed to help control asthma, not create a bigger issue."

"I have had allergy-induced asthma for less than a year now. I was put on Qvar without being told of any side effects. After one month of being on it, using one puff in the morning and one before bed, I noticed a rash on my chest only and white spots on my tongue. I also noticed that when I was speaking, my voice would get deep and soon change back to normal. I started to see a new doctor and was given antibiotics for the tongue yeast infection. I also had blood work done and was told that my vitamin D bone density levels were low, so I now take vitamin D to make up for it. My chest rash got so bad that I had to stop the Qvar. I see a new doctor tomorrow, but the two I saw after being put on Qvar could not figure out why my rash was so bad."

"I was on Advair 250/50 when I changed insurance, and my new insurance company didn't want to pay for Advair unless I tried Qvar first, and it failed. So, I started using Qvar 80. I was without any asthma medicines while this insurance thing was going on. Good news is that Qvar seems to work better for me than Advair. I didn't realize how bad asthma could get by stopping a medicine for only a week. The Qvar is taking care of that, though. I think it is a great medicine for me."

"I just started using asthma maintenance medicines this year and have a horrible time with Qvar. The medications stopped coming out after only a few doses. I have read everything from the company on how to clean, etc., but that doesn't help. The last time, I didn't realize it wasn't working and ended up starting strong withdrawal symptoms that really scared me. My doctor switched me to another medicine and I am doing fine. The manufacturer needs to fix this, it could really hurt someone."

"I thought I was using the RediHaler wrong. I suck really hard, but it’s delayed dispensing the medicine. By that time, I’m out of breath. It only dispenses in my mouth, not in my lungs. How can the company get away with this? I am going to tell the doctors I work with to dispense another medicine to patients. This thing is a scam."

"I have the same issue with my Qvar RediHaler. Can't even know how long it has been since it stopped working other than asthma has gotten worse. Did my own test and put tissue over the mouthpiece and inhaled strongly, and there was nothing on the tissue! There are 40 doses left on the device. Contacted Teva Pharm to file a complaint. A representative asked how I stored the device, and I said bathroom sink. He replied, 'No wonder, medication is a dry powder and cannot be stored near moisture.' I replied it is actually stored in the medicine cabinet above the sink, but didn't think I had to be that specific! I read him the 'How should I store Qvar RediHaler' section of the patient info sheet, and it says nothing about storing away from moisture, and he should tell the company that! I believe it is a faulty design and have asked my doctor for an alternate medication."

"The Qvar RediHaler doesn’t work to dispense medicine properly! Works for a while and then stops. Medicine is great, but this RediHaler is absolute garbage. I just now took the canister out and will hopefully be able to get a proper dosage through the old method (I have the old devices still!). Very disappointing to pay the amount of money for something that doesn’t work through the full cycle."

"My experience has been bad. The RediHaler apparently 'gets dirty and stops working.' The very mean lady in customer service wants to teach you how to clean over the phone. The cleaning has not worked on three of my inhalers. One stopped working with 45 inhalations left, another at 65, and my current one at 80. This is a waste of medicine and money. I have to change because they are not standing behind their product. I need to be able to count on my medicine."

"Holy moly! I had 3 Redi-Inhalers that stopped working... and oh, I didn't realize it. Headline: take the medicine out of this stupid plastic container and put it in another, older push one... I had an albuterol device sitting around. I only use them when I have lung yak, which happens after having a cold/sinus thing. A couple of days, a couple of shots a day, and I'm always fine. I went a week + not getting better, oh, and freaking out I might have Corona... ugh... Once I figured out the issue was the Qvar RediHaler device, and actually got medicine into my lungs, I felt an immediate improvement. I can't believe these things are still being distributed!"

"The new Qvar RediHaler device is a nightmare for asthma. It doesn’t work. You hear the medicine being pumped and slightly released when you close it. This makes no sense! I have 4 inhalers, and they all do the same thing. With COVID-19, this is freaking me out as the design is faulty."

"I've had Qvar 80 for 2-3 years, and it is absolutely amazing. I never needed to rely on my albuterol inhaler after taking Qvar. 10/10. Now, a message to people with the white spots: that is a yeast infection. It specifically says you are supposed to rinse your mouth with water thoroughly (don't drink the rinse water) to avoid yeast infection."

"I don’t know how this RediHaler is even on the market. Sometimes medicine comes out, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes after you’re done inhaling and take your mouth away, THEN the medicine kind of spurts out into the air. This has caused me breathing trouble more than once. You can’t depend on it to work. You can try everything, even calling TEVA and cleaning the way they say. NOTHING WORKS. I tried it years ago and switched to Asmanex because of this. Then my insurance no longer covered Asmanex. Since it had been a couple of years, I figured that Qvar had to have fixed the problem. So I tried it again. NOPE! Still dangerous and junk. Not getting your asthma medicine to dispense properly is dangerous. I called my doctor and switched to Flovent HFA."

"I am dissatisfied with this new construction of Qvar RediHaler. The unit always clogs, sometimes beyond cleaning. The unit is wastefully made of heavy gauge plastic, and a lot of it. This makes the world environment sicker for asthmatics. The canister is the same Qvar, just a different delivery system that doesn't work. Screwed off the heavy plastic top, took out the canister, and continued to use that canister in an old salvaged normal plastic dispenser body that I had luckily kept. The companies shouldn't try to reinvent rubbish to make more money and instead just make the medicine affordable for people and not pass the expenses to healthcare for stupid and flawed ideas like this. This is a waste of heavy plastic and enormous design cost for something a monkey could do. PS Google 'How to Confidently Prescribe Inhaled Steroids,' and on page 4, 'Qvar RediHaler “Hack”' is a hack on how to convert the RediHaler into one that actually works!"

"I have asthma that flared whenever I got a cold, in the spring and with exercise. After 2 rounds of bronchitis in a few months, I was put on Qvar, and it has helped significantly. I still get the occasional flare with a cold and need my albuterol before exercise, but other than that, I have been pretty well controlled with Qvar."

"This medication (the drug) works great. Been on it since a child for over the past 20 years. Will be on the medication for the rest of my life. It has low ratings because of the actual inhaler device. So when I picked up my first box, I immediately ripped open the inhaler, twisted off the top half, and took out the canister. All I have is the canister, and I use another pump to get the medication out. So now it is like the original Qvar from back in the day that didn't have the dysfunctional redi-inhaler apparatus. I was placed on Alvesco when Qvar redesigned their product, making the price go up. Asthma is not a condition you want to experiment with. This works for me and hopefully always will. I pay $216 for 120 inhalations (80 mcg). I'm in grad school, but I still manage to make the costs work. Not an ideal cost, but oh well."

"My asthma was controlled on old Qvar, but since they changed to the RediHaler, I’ve had consistent and worsening asthma symptoms. Something is not working. I’ve had to go on oral steroids three times in the last 6 months."

"Both my husband and son use the RediHaler, and both have stopped working prior to the count being out. My husband's stopped with 60 puffs left, my son's stopped at 45. Complete garbage to not be able to get all 120 doses out for what they charge. Bring back the old-style inhaler where they could actually get the medication out!"

"A few of the inhalers worked from dose 1 to 120 while two of them stopped working before the counter reached 20. Five days ago, I received a Qvar RediHaler that has not worked at all. The pharmacy will not take it back and replace it with a new one, so I'll have to pay out of pocket for a new one. My insurance paid for the previous inhalers, but it's on my dime this time. There has to be an investigation into this breath-actuated delivery system since many patients have complained that it doesn't work consistently. For 5 days now, I've had no medicine. Had my prescription transferred to a different pharmacy because my old pharmacy was out of the product. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed in the breath-actuated Qvar RediHaler!"

"Initially, my breathing improved, but within a few weeks, the improvement disappeared. Within a month, I was having major side effects, including fatigue and headaches. My kidney function decreased markedly. It took weeks after stopping Qvar to recover from the experience."

"My Qvar RediHaler has really bad asthma, too. Thought my asthma was getting worse, but no, it was only because my Qvar RediHaler stopped dispensing the mist after only 30 puffs used! This canister doesn't work!"

"I have been using the Qvar for about 2 to 3 years. Qvar works very well for me. I’ve never had a problem with my dispenser until now. It quit working after three or four puffs. I tried cleaning it twice with nothing changing. After reading several of your reviews, I decided to pull my canister out and put it into one of my emergency dispensers. It worked! The only setback is I don’t know if I’m getting the correct amount dispensed to me, and it doesn’t have the number gauge on it to know how many puffs I have left. Has anyone else ever tried using another dispenser?"

"I used RediHaler for several years without a problem. This year, they began to stop working with about 50 puffs remaining. When the first device stopped working, I called the company and received a replacement; lots of rigamarole and a conference call involved. However, subsequent RediHalers have also malfunctioned. The older version worked much better."

"So glad I saw these reviews before ordering another. Stopped working with over 50 left. Didn’t know it. Went from perfect, never using my rescue, to four-day-long attacks, needing the rescue and oral steroids. Finally discovered the RediHaler was sputtering after I inhaled. Wow."
