For ADHD "I have always been a gifted student, but struggled to pick anything up in class. My entire life, I would go to class and walk out gaining nothing but a couple of good daydreams. I thought I had ADD a very long time ago and asked my mom to have me checked; but being the proud mom she was, her son couldn't have ADD. This year, I started college and the same trend of gaining nothing from lectures remained. I was sick of putting in the effort to go to class and getting nothing from it. I was diagnosed last November and tried a few medications prior to Adderall XR. This medication changed my college career; I can now go to class and follow my professor through the entire lecture. I no longer need to reread everything to understand it."

For Narcolepsy "I use Adderall XR 20mg in the morning upon waking up for narcolepsy and find it effective. It helps like nothing else to start a day off 'awake' as can be. I am also prescribed 20mg IR taken twice throughout the day as needed, as well as Nuvigil (armodafinil) 150mg at night right before sleep. Balancing meds is vital for this disease. But back to the point, Adderall XR is amazing."

For ADHD "I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life. Started taking in my late 30s and have been on it almost a year. I started at 5 mg and increased to 20 mg over about 4 months. I don’t take it every day, and I only do the 20 mg in the morning, but I can take another 20 mg, however, I rarely do. I really have not had any bad side effects. I am very aware of addictions, so I will not abuse the drug. I find I am more focused, and I am able to get things done. It’s not some magic drug, but it does help you stay on task. It does not give me tons of energy where I can run circles around the neighborhood. I think it gives you normal energy to a person that does not have ADHD. It just seems to help my mind slow down and rest. I actually rest better now because my thoughts are not all over the place. I would be trying to do 5 things at once, and nothing would get done. Now I can focus on one thing until finished and move on."

For ADHD "I love Adderall. I'm 38 years old and a very accomplished and successful person. I started taking Adderall this year, and it has done wonders for my productivity. It makes me sad that I hadn't discovered it earlier in my life. To think what I could have accomplished. Like a lot of people, I start 10 things and finish none. Adderall helps me stay on task. It's like responsibility in a pill."

For ADHD "I am 43 years old, dropped out of high school, had many bad relationships, many bad decisions, and could never finish one thing when I started it, could never be organized, could never remember things when first told, always lost things or misplaced them, tripped over my own feet, and was never good at keeping appointments, I would forget about them. I have been on Adderall for 4 years, had my ups and downs with it, have had to change the dose some, go off of it on my days off because it got to where it wasn't working as well, and if I medicated myself, I took too much, or not enough. I do notice a big difference in the generic, even though they say it's the same. Adderall XR has worked wonders for me and has changed my life."

For ADHD "Diagnosed 3 years ago, participated in Strattera study, did not help at all. Finally started Adderall 20 mg XR two days ago. Main difference is the absence of fatigue and a quieted mind. I can actually sit and not have to argue with myself, overwhelming feelings gone for the most part. Insomnia straight away first night, hardly any sleep again last (2nd) night, underlying headache now. Definite loss of appetite, appreciate the lost lbs but still have to eat!"

"I take 80 mg of Adderall XR every day. I don't have ADHD. I'm prescribed it specifically for treatment-resistant depression. It's a remarkable medication. It elevates my mood consistently. I have no real side effects. I recommend it. I get various generics. They all seem okay. I've been using Adderall for 12 years. Some IR and some ER. I now use and prefer ER capsules. Best luck."

For Narcolepsy "Works wonders for me. I still occasionally have some daytime sleepiness, which I can handle with a quick 5-minute nap, but it has gotten rid of the cataplexy. I really had a problem with symptoms of cataplexy. If I laughed, got mad, or was emotional in any way, I would end up on the floor. I rarely have any of these symptoms now, which is a miracle for me. I do have two side effects: one is that I can become pretty irritable, and the second is that I get a bit more aroused."

For ADHD "I am 22 years old and never was a bad student throughout school but was always very unfocused when it came to reading comprehension and listening to lectures. I now work for a general physician and she seemed to notice my frustration with not being able to get anything done when there was a lot to do. I would get very aggravated easily and had very bad mood swings. My doctor prescribed me Adderall XR and I was very hesitant to take it. When I started taking it, I felt like I was much calmer, was able to do my job. It's really great, me and my husband get along now because I'm not so uptight. It does give me dry mouth and insomnia, but I can deal with the no appetite. Overall, I think it is great!"

For ADHD "Adderall XR (25mg) had a huge positive effect on my day-to-day life almost immediately. I was able to focus much better, concentrate, and complete tasks. It kept my brain from racing from thought to thought and lessened the daydreaming/mind-wandering. Initially, the only side effect was some insomnia, but that eventually went away. Sadly, after taking Adderall XR for about 8 years, it no longer was effective in treating my ADHD. I'm hoping within a few years of being off Adderall, I'll be able to go back on and it'll work again."

For ADHD "I have taken Adderall XR for 6 years now. I started with 20 mg once a day and now I am taking 25 mg twice a day. I had severe ADHD since I was very young, and Adderall XR seems to have taken me out of a fog I felt for many years. After reading other postings, I question if I am taking too much of this drug. I do not have any side effects, but I can definitely tell when it is wearing off. It seems I cannot wake up without it, and my second dose at noon is never forgotten, or I will start to really drag. I'm worried I am dependent on this drug, and it scares me. Now it seems like the dosage is not as effective as I am very tired by 8:00 pm. Overall, this drug has helped me tremendously with ADHD and depression."

For ADHD "Overall, I'd say that Adderall XR is better than Adderall IR. Sometimes I feel faint on Adderall XR. I can't take it every day because I get too tired. I have weird side effects with medications. I usually get all of the side effects when I take medications. I also have depression too. Hopefully, Dexedrine will work."

For ADHD "Works great for my ADHD. It's the first drug I was prescribed for it, and I think I'll be sticking with it. The only effects, other than helping with focus, that I've had so far are some extra energy and a little bit of a reduction in appetite. I'll have to switch to immediate release next month, though, since the extended release pills are still a little bit expensive."

For ADHD "I have been on Adderall XR at varying doses for over a decade, and it has completely changed my life for the better. I honestly had a very hard time even holding a job before getting on the right medication, and for years was convinced there must be something truly wrong with my brain. However, getting the proper diagnosis and treatment of ADHD has been massively transformative. With this said, though, medication is only one tool in the lifelong toolbox to live one's best life. These medications are a bit like eyeglasses. When they're working, I can see a lot more clearly than normal; and I more or less function just as well as anyone else. But when the medication has worn off, I am right back to where I started. These drugs for ADHD are tools and are hugely helpful, but they are not cures. I believe that with the proper strategies and organization, they can be hugely helpful, but ultimately it is up to the user to put the work in and to change their life. Adderall XR can help."

For ADHD "This medication has totally changed my life for the better 100%. My life before Adderall was a huge mess and full of incomplete tasks and lots of trouble with work. Now my life is finally together and on track, and almost everything I start also gets finished and pretty much right away. My daughter also is on this medication, and she went from a D and F average in school to the A,B honor roll and doesn't have any more problems in school. This medicine was a lifesaver for the both of us... MOTHER AND DAUGHTER!"

For ADHD "I take one a day. It helps me concentrate and also helps me feel ambitious and less depressed. But when it wears off in the evening, I start feeling sad and easily agitated. I can take up to 2 a day, but I usually only take one because I don't want it to cause any heart problems."

For ADHD "On my 4th day of Adderall XR! I just bumped up to 20 mg today, and let me tell you, best ADHD drug I have ever taken! One, I feel happy and content. Two, I am a ton more focused! And three, I can sit on my couch and just chill or go out and play basketball with my friends or basically do whatever, my motivation is amazing! I tried Focalin XR, Concerta, Strattera worked for a year, then just stopped working. But I asked my doctor to let me try this medicine, and that is the best choice I have ever made. No insomnia, but be ready for a loss of appetite. I lost 8 lbs. in the 4 days I've been taking this. As long as it keeps working as it is, I can see me being on this for a long time."

For ADHD "At first, it was an eye-opener - I could sit at my desk and do the work I intended to do - suddenly the day has way more hours in it and I don't get sidetracked and pace around thinking about the meaning of existence for no reason and what the hell I've spent 4 hours thinking about. But its effectiveness wears off over time and for me, once I had the realization that this is what dopamine is and this is how your motivation is affected, it is much healthier for me to just hack my motivation in other ways - a cold shower first thing in the morning does a lot - and I could be JUST as effective off it - and more proud of myself for being effective without the aid of this substance which made me more irritated, less social, and just like a mouse on a wheel without true emotional states. I recommend people at least try it, but for me, I function better and feel more 'alive' without it."

For Narcolepsy "I grew up taking Adderall since elementary school, but tapered off all medications shortly after reaching legal age. I was convinced that it was all in my head and that I simply had to learn to cope with life like a 'normal' person. However, when my inability to stay awake for a whole day continued to persist years later (and catching myself nodding off behind the wheel with a child in the back seat), I realized I couldn't let pride get in the way of treatment. I may still be drowsy throughout the day, but I can stay awake for more than a few hours at a time again. I can't say if or how Adderall affected my libido, having started taking it before puberty, but I am glad I am not bothered with urges more frequently than once or twice every few years. Ultimately, Adderall XR has saved my life in more ways than one. It may not completely prevent me from falling asleep while relaxing during downtime, but it does at least help me stay awake when I have something else to focus on."

For ADHD "I started on Adderall XR 20 mg and noticed improvements the first day, eventually finding the right dose being 30 mg of Adderall XR and one 20 mg Adderall IR. Adderall XR has some side effects, but overall, if your ADHD is bad enough, it’s easily worth the few inconveniences that may occur, such as dry mouth, stomach ache, joint aches, migraine, some paranoia, and sleep issues. Granted, the only ones I have that are consistent are dry mouth and sometimes a slight stomach ache that goes away after 20 minutes. I highly recommend this drug as it really has improved my life and made me able to get through college and work. I don’t have health insurance, and for a month's supply of 30 mg XR, it’s around $50, and I pay $40 for the month of 20 mg IR. Keep in mind that medication at the end of the day will affect everyone differently, so make sure and do YOUR research on medications that are recommended to you and make sure you’re comfortable with the potential side effects. Be safe!"

For ADHD "ALERT: I believe that counterfeit product purchased at CVS in coastal Northern California. Capsules do not have imprint stating '30 mg.,' which Shire actually has. Capsules are not filled completely. It takes 45 minutes from time of dosage on an empty stomach to feel any effect. Little ability to focus and carry through; effects last approximately 3 hours, at a reduced level."

For ADHD "Adderall XR is the best medication I've ever taken. I stopped a while ago because going to the psychiatrist is so expensive, but I took XR for years and it was great. I was (possibly) misdiagnosed with ADHD because I found out I have autism and my issue has always been hyper-focusing rather than trouble with focusing. However, XR improved my mood and I felt very motivated to pursue my hobbies more than when I was off the pill. I also struggle with severe depression and it improved my mood because of the energy boost. However, keep in mind that XR is neutral when it comes to mood. I was usually on 15-25mg, 30mg was way too high and 10mg was almost ineffective. Even though I focus too much on one thing at a time, XR helped me focus on things I didn't care about or didn't want to do, like clean my room or do my homework. It put a pep in my step and I'm hoping I can find a way to get back on it."

For ADHD "I was diagnosed with ADHD 6 years ago by my family physician. She put me on Effexor, which seemed to help at first, but over the next year, the side effects were not worth the results. Another doctor recently prescribed Adderall, and when that worked well, he gave Adderall XR. I am so much more centered, can concentrate, and my quality of life is so much better. I hate that it is thought of as a 'street drug,' and I hate that the price is so high. The generic did nothing for me except to make me agitated/jittery for a few hours, then crashed and had a headache."

For ADHD "I just recently started taking Adderall XR, and even though my doctor and I are still trying to find the right dose, I have already noticed a major difference. Since I've started taking it, I've been able to get lost in books for the first time because I can actually focus without having to make myself. I have noticed a decrease in appetite, but it seems more like a newly developed aversion to high-calorie foods, and I'm wondering if that's not because of the added stimulation from the carbohydrates. Either way, I think it's important for everyone to remember there is no magic pill, and in order to get the best results, you have to change your lifestyle too. Like making sure to get 8 hours of sleep, eat foods high in fiber, and cut back on sugar."

For ADHD "I started taking Adderall XR 12 days ago, and I love it. I immediately started focusing better. I now feel great when I wake up knowing that I will be able to get things done that have been put off for so long. My memory and self-esteem have improved dramatically. The only side effects I am experiencing are dry mouth and mild headaches."
