Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I feel comforted reading the feedback on this because I thought maybe I was losing my mind. I have had sinus infections for years and finally tried the antibiotic approach. I had no idea the side effects would be so awful! Stay near a toilet or wear Depends. On day one, I 'sharted' in public, then started daily taking anti-D meds, which didn't even help. Vomited twice during the week, but that was probably me being bad for drinking alcohol. Horrible headaches, fatigue, and brain fog (to the point my boss asked me if I was okay just passing the hallway) and long bouts of weird fever-sleep. The worst part is, either I got a cold virus by chance, or this hasn't worked at all... it's hard to tell, but it feels more like a cold. Awful from start to end."

For Strep Throat "I was prescribed Amox-Clav 875 for strep throat. After three doses of the medication, I became extremely nauseous and threw up everything in my stomach. I became exhausted and slept for multiple hours. I developed a terrible headache, and my nausea continued. I contacted my doctor to explain my conditions, and he prescribed an anti-nausea medication and a different antibiotic. While Amox-Clav was effective in helping my strep throat symptoms in only three doses, it rendered me incapable of doing anything. I was not comfortable continuing the medication."

For Sinusitis "I get so sick from taking this, I can't even work. Nausea, stomach pain, dizziness, headache, tired... I'm going back to the doctor to switch medication just after taking them for 3 days, I can't do it no more."

For Bronchitis "I woke up one morning with a severe sore throat, coughing up mucus, severe headaches, and a low-grade fever. The doctor prescribed this medicine for me, and a couple of hours after taking this pill, my fever was gone, along with the headaches (and I haven't been back), my sore throat is much better, and I have coughed up several solo cups full of mucus."

For Bacterial Infection "I have a tooth infection at the root of an old root canal. Was having pain in jaw, neck, headaches, gums, and diarrhea. Within 1.5 days of taking the meds (500 mg x 3/day), I noticed less pain in the gums, and the diarrhea resolved. Very happy to have a medication work this fast and effectively. TMI, but it was nice to see a fully formed stool. I’ll start taking a probiotic soon, they recommend NOT taking this medication within 2 hrs of eating dairy products."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Urinary Tract Infection "It is an okay drug for UTI. I was better by day three. I couldn't take the side effects, though. A headache that won't go away and started mild diarrhea. The weird part is the anxiety I had with it. I'm hoping that side effect goes away. I've been taking a probiotic with it and eating when I do take it. It seems to help. I'd say give it a go, see if it works, if it doesn't, then find something else."

For Sinusitis "In January and now was prescribed this rubbish, twice no results and ended up getting real amoxicillin. Both times I got this one, I felt like my symptoms worsened twofold after 4 days on this. My diagnosis, pansinusitis. I've never heard of this before, apparently, it's the mother lode of sinusitis involving infection in all 4 sinuses. I had no fever, no nasal congestion, just severe fog and a major headache and really large swollen glands under my jaw, ears, and neck all around. I'm so delirious I thought Sherlock was a made-up word and laughed hysterically when someone mentioned it. Needless to say, this antibiotic doesn't do anything!"

For Sinusitis "Got amoxicillin for tooth pain and root canal infection. Staying in the north of Namibia and had to get the swelling and pain off before going to Europe to treat the tooth at a better dentist. The prescription was 3 x day for 5 days. In 2012, I used it also for a week for acne treatment. Both times, I got terrible headache, meningitis-type feeling from day two on, which lingered on for some days after I finished the drug. The first time, I was not sure what to make out of these rare symptoms, and the doctor was in doubt as I don't remember an allergy to antibiotics. But now, in 2015, taking the same drug, it’s the same side effects. So I guess amoxicillin can have these bad effects. I finished the course both times, but the side effects were identical."

For Sinusitis "I was just prescribed amoxicillin clav 875 mg - 2 pills a day. I'm going on my 3rd day of meds. The first day I had a horrible headache, but I'm prone to them and the weather was rainy too. So I figure that could have been something else. The worst thing I have experienced is the nausea. It happens a few hours after I have taken a dose. I've been taking the meds with a half bottle of water. I sip some milk and eat cereal along with it each time. Usually, a few hours after the dose and/or when I eat, I will have to go to the bathroom. Somewhat loose stool. May be the nausea, but I also feel sick/feverish a few hours after the pill, but I do not have a fever. Comes and goes."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Took 5 days of 625 mg twice daily course after a dental procedure. While on it, I had a severe headache, hot flushes, chills, depression, nausea, and anxiety. I didn't experience diarrhea, though. Two days after finishing the course, I got a vaginal yeast infection. The last yeast infection was 5 years ago when I was on a 3-month course of Z-Pack for acne. It cleared up my tooth infection, but I'm never having it again. Not worth the side effects."

For Sinusitis "It's working, but I am quitting. I was told by the doctor that the clavulanate could trigger gastrointestinal side effects. Should have been my first clue. I have IBS, and I'm emetophobic. I took my 5th pill (of 14), and within 15-20 minutes, I was in agony. I had diarrhea the morning before, but wrote it off on the IBS. It should have been a warning. Crippling stomach pain, gas, massive headache, and more diarrhea. Had an anxiety attack and had to take a Xanax. Calling my doc in the morning to get off of it. And yes, I was taking the pills with food, probiotics, etc. They didn't help me."

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed this med for a sinus infection. It was the worst medication I have ever been prescribed. Strong stomach pains, unable to sleep, really awful headaches, total loss of appetite, diarrhea... but the worst side effect is that it made all food taste horrible... even water!!! I didn't attribute this to the med until I read some of the other reviews. I immediately went and dumped the prescription down the toilet. I had been taking these pills for 8 days now and have not been able to eat in 8 days... they are gone!!! I think that now I will be starting to feel a lot better!!!"

For Sinusitis "RUN FROM THIS MED!! I was fine on it at first, but now it has caused headaches, severe diarrhea, tiredness, and vomiting. If I would have known its side effects before I was prescribed it, I would have never started taking it. I had to leave work nearly because I was so ill from it. Do not take this med. It's horrible."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Augmentin (500/125 three times a day for 10 days) by my dentist for a tooth infection. The first day wasn’t so bad, but by the second day, I could feel anxiety and nausea creeping in. On the third day, I had a strong headache and stomach pain with loose stools, although I never vomited. Over the next couple of days, my blood pressure spiked significantly, I had a difficult time sleeping, and I felt very anxious along with the other above-mentioned symptoms. The good news is that my tooth, jaw, and ear pain went away, caused by the tooth infection. On day 7, I called my dentist and explained my side effects to him, and he advised that I go off the medicine. I have never had any severe reactions to any antibiotics in the past. Well, at least for me, this stuff is bad in my opinion. I don’t plan on taking it again, although it did help my infection go away."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I started taking amoxicillin/clavulanate yesterday afternoon for an infection from a cat bite. I took my first pill around 6:00 pm with my dinner and didn't think anything of it. Around 10:00 pm, I had an awful headache. I had to take ibuprofen and go lay down until it finally eased. I woke up this morning with stomach cramps and diarrhea. I took my second dose this morning around 11:00 am with lunch, and after eating, I felt a little nauseous, but nothing too extreme. It wasn't long after I took the pill that I got a headache, and I've had it ever since. Overall, I've felt a little icky altogether after starting the medicine, but it does seem to be helping my infection."

For Sinusitis "I had an ongoing sinusitis infection for months. Then, a week ago, I woke up on a Wednesday morning and could hardly open my eye. My hubby took me to urgent care, where they said I had pink eye and gave me drops. However, I also developed a sore throat. I called the doctor and had a video visit. He looked at the picture I sent him, noticed swelling below my eye, and expressed concern that I may have preseptal cellulitis and possible strep. He prescribed Amox-Clav 875/125 mg. I have 5 more days to go on these antibiotics. I've experienced really bad stomach cramps, diarrhea (but only once), headache, feeling very tired, and now I have heartburn. I feel a little dehydrated, but I'm taking the medication with food. Despite the side effects, I plan to finish the antibiotics because they seem to be helping. They have cleared up my sinus congestion, although I still have a cough and need to clear up the mucus. Overall, I feel better than I have been. The pressure around my eyes and cheeks isn't as bad. I just have to get through these last few days and the side effects. The medication is definitely helping me."

For Sinusitis "I was recently placed on this medication for a sinus infection, and I am on day 3 of a 5-day course. So far, my symptoms have been a severe headache and slight diarrhea. I will say I needed a couple of days to rest and recover from the damage done from the previous week of congestion, aches, slight fever, and difficulty breathing, but once taking the Rx and allowing it to work, so far no other issues. For reference, I am a 65-year-old female with no history of any medical issues besides sinus issues and every now and then a bout with vertigo, which I feel is associated with some of my sinus issues, and I am not on any medication aside from what may be prescribed at the time for any sudden issues such as this. Rated at an 8 because 1 point each taken off for the two side effects I am dealing with while taking medication."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "By the time I was prescribed this medication, I was at the tail end of a two-week-old. The doctor saw some spots on my throat and prescribed it. The medication has made me more miserable than the actual disease. I can't keep any food in my stomach, and I have constant headaches as well as lingering nausea. Constantly sleepy and tired. It's been four days at this time, and I think I will have to stop early. My doctor prescribed 875 mg two times a day for 10 days."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Been suffering for years with what's said to be possibly either Crohn's disease or HS (Hidradenitis suppurativa) on the vaginal, anal, and butt crack. Always told this was folliculitis down there with bacterial staph and MRSA. No antibiotic has worked. I have lots of cuts, deep holes, pus, swollen lymph nodes in pelvic with intense itching all day and night. I was prescribed this antibiotic for 10 days, I am on day 5. Since day 1, first dose increased the itch and caused a heavy feeling in lower stomach and surrounding areas. Increased urination, it has me feeling like I have now a UTI. I'm experiencing more itching, swelling, incomplete bowel movements, and urination. Tired, and now I'm noticing headaches. The thing is I had a bad cough for a very long time which is practically gone. And my ear that has always hurt has stopped. Wasn't prescribed for those things, but it helped. Wish it helped with what it was initially given for, this vaginal anal infection. Not working for me, but I'm sure it may for others. Good luck."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Got an infection in my fingertip from tearing it open. I was prescribed a 10-day round of Augmentin and took it for 7 days, and it didn't work. The first two days I had no issues, but by the third day, I woke up with pain in my back, neck, and shoulders and had a terrible headache, this lasted for 4 days. I told my doctor, and they suggested I take at least 7 days. On the 7th day, the last dose, I took it in the evening and woke up in the middle of the night with muscle and joint pain. Taking ibuprofen got rid of all of it, but I was taking 600 mg of ibuprofen at least twice a day. I felt awful the entire time. The only positive, it did clear up the infection. But my God, I felt like I was dying. I have asked not to be prescribed this again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "BEWARE!!! TAKE PROBIOTICS before, during, and after you take this Augmentin. I was given a prescription for an ear infection. Within days, I had gastrointestinal problems and very uncomfortable bloating and stinging while urinating. This whole mess turned into a UTI, which caused fever, chills, headaches, and more bloating. It was horrible. It wasn't until then that a PA at Urgent Care told me I should have been taking a probiotic before, during, and after the Augmentin. Very nice of my GP to 'forget' to tell me that."

For Sinusitis "Was given this medication for sinusitis, had this some years back, so I am usually prescribed Amoxicillin and a 7-day methylprednisolone 4 mg 7-day pack. New doctor, so he decides to try something new, to both of us. Well, this was the first time I was prescribed this. Given this medication cost pretty close to $80.00, I had a feeling this was going to be interesting. So, on the first night, no sleep. Second night, no sleep. Third day, I was feeling somewhat better but had a slight headache, kept taking it. I made it through to the 7th day, felt a lot better but... on the eighth day, I felt like my nose was running, so I went to the restroom to blow my nose, it was blood. It totally freaked me out. It stopped, so I went on with the rest of my day. I was done with the medication, so I thought it should go away. Three days later, I hocked up a blood clot about the size of a quarter. Never again will I take this med, don't recommend."

For Bacterial Infection "I was given Amox-Clav 875-125 mg for a dog bite. The very next day after intercourse, I had swelling in the labia and was extremely sore and sensitive. Unlike normal swelling from intercourse, these symptoms lasted a week and were followed by white discharge that I had to keep cleaning out of my creases. There was also dead skin shedding on the toilet paper after wiping. Also, a frequency to urinate. At this point, I had not read about possible side effects of taking this medication. After 10 days and taking the entire script, I went back to see the doctor to have the staples removed from the bite, and the doctor prescribed me another week. In this week, I started experiencing new symptoms. It started hurting on the upper part of my injured leg really badly, but not at the bite location, and my legs were swelling. My head started to hurt and didn't stop for three days straight, and my mouth was extremely dry all the time, and I couldn't taste. Still have vaginal itching, swelling, soreness, and frequency to urinate."

For Bacterial Infection "I got sick about 3 weeks ago and was off work for 1 week. I went to see my Dr. who prescribed me Amox-Clav 850/125 mg for congestion in my lungs. I took 1 tablet for 2 days and discontinued taking it. A week later, I got almost the same symptoms back and decided to finish the drug as told by my Dr. I took one pill, and later that night I had a headache on my temple, which radiated down to my right cheek area and my upper teeth. Aspirin helped relieve the pressure, but I'm probably going to take ibuprofen. No good, this drug."
