Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I had bites of deer ticks on my spine. I developed a stiff neck, an excruciating pain and inflammation on my head (encephalitis), and a high fever of 104 when I laid down in bed. The next morning, the fever went down to 101 when I got up in the morning and took a shower. Due to the fact that MDs have no clue how to treat encephalitis versus a headache, things got very bad. Finally, an MD from Connecticut, here in Miami, tested me for Lyme disease and prescribed 825 mg of Augmentin. With the first dose of Augmentin, the excruciating headache and stiff neck went away. In three days, I was forever cured."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I will never take this drug again. I was prescribed a 10-day/twice-a-day dose for a sinus infection. I took one pill. Within 4 hours of taking the pill, I was experiencing fever-like chills, tingling, nerve pain in my feet, and restlessness. I had nightmares and a terrible night's sleep. The worst part is the headache I can't shake and the extreme fatigue. My head feels like it's in a vice. I've done nothing but sleep all day-only moving to take Advil, which barely touches the headache. I just assume suffer through the sinus infection rather than experience the past 24 hours on this drug."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "Augmentin worked fast within 3 days for my strep throat, but the diarrhea and stomach aches I had taking this were awful. Even for a few days after I had finished the 10 days of antibiotics. The first few days, I experienced some trouble sleeping, night sweats, and the headache here and there. Generally worked well, but side effects were not fun."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "DO NOT TAKE AUGMENTIN! I am healthy (run marathons - no pre-existing conditions) and never take meds. I was prescribed this for a headache (after a vehicle accident) and a little sinusitis at Onpoint. I was so sick, and after 5 days (my heart started hurting, lost all healthy bacteria (worst diarrhea and stripped stomach lining), had a fiery red rash after 10 days all over my body! It took 2 weeks for the rash to go away after I got off Augmentin. My body systems have never been the same!! Destroyed them. THIS IS TOXIC, tell your doctors too). If you MUST take an antibiotic, use something safer. Also, my husband (really healthy) didn't quite believe me. He was prescribed it, he was flat on his back/couch, vomiting and couldn't MOVE after 2 days! He stopped immediately."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I’ve been suffering from UTIs since I was 17 years old and began being prescribed Augmentin about 20 years ago. It’s my miracle drug, knocks the UTI straight on the head. I have had a few pneumonia infections in my life as well, and Augmentin always clears them up very quickly. I have been caught out a few times by taking a pill not with food, and boy oh boy does it churn up the old stomach. If I take it with food, no issues. I never get any side effects from this drug, maybe the odd headache or two, usually I wasn't drinking enough water. Also, a lot of people say it causes fatigue. WELL, wouldn’t you break the fatigue down to being run down by an actual infection, so your body is tired anyway? Each to their own, but this deserves a 10 out of 10, great drug."

For Sinusitis "Had post-nasal drip, sinus swelling, ear, and toothache diagnosed as a bacterial infection. I was skeptical, but I assume that doctors know what they're about. Initially, the swelling went down, but after a few days, I began to notice mild paranoia, nervousness, and headaches. After 7 days, it was hard for me to hold down food or sleep. My gut is swollen, and I am alternating between panic attacks and severe depression. I have missed more work due to the medication than I did for the sinus problems. I hope this abates soon after I'm done. 2 pills left, and I will never take this again unless I need it to save my life."

For Bacterial Infection "I am taking the medicine for a bad infection in my tonsil. The first antibiotic I tried did not work. On the 3rd-5th day of taking this, I developed a severe headache in the back of my head. I was told this was from the infection and to administer heat, then cold compresses. This relieved the pressure and headache immediately. Thought this post might help someone in the future to know what to do. I am feeling great today on day 6."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I started Augmentin 1 gm twice/day 5 days ago (Wed. Sep. 9th) to treat inflammation in the tooth root. The stomach problems started by day 4. Today (day 5) was really bad: headache, stomach pain, pain in my joints, and my whole body. I also had a loose stool from day 1. I called my doctor, explained the situation, and he said I can stop taking it, a minimum of 4 days should suffice. So I took 9 out of a course of 14 tablets. I hope I'll get rid of my whole-body pain and stomach problems soon. So overall experience with Augmentin: bad."

For Sinusitis "This medication is terrible. It causes me to have very bad headaches while I feel like I'm having migraines, but it's caused by this medicine. I get terrible diarrhea, nausea, and I throw up. I just feel like garbage. I was told this will clear me up and make me feel better, but I feel way worse now. I have been on it for 3 days, and I have now decided to stop. Hopefully, I will feel better when this medicine is out of my system. Much love to all using it."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Middle Ear Infections "The side effects of this drug were so awful I now fear antibiotics. It gave me severe headaches, extreme fatigue accompanied by an inability to sleep, nausea, itchy skin. It also affected my mental health. I felt sad and sat crying my eyes out for no obvious reason. Truly horrible experience."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin and Structure Infection "Took Augmentin for a bacterial infection in my foot. This is rough stuff. During the 10-day cycle, although it cleared up the infection in my foot, I had begun to develop headaches, felt weak and tired, sleeplessness, and some stomach discomfort. Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I’ve taken this antibiotic many times for my sinus infections, however, the last few times on this antibiotic I’ve reacted horribly. Not sure why I didn’t in the past. This antibiotic caused weakness and joint pain. My legs and arms are so sore, head fog, and pain in my head. It made me feel like I’m on another planet. Never will I ever take Augmentin again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Day 5, and my sinus congestion is as bad, if not worse. Had a fever on day 2, chronic headache despite drinking a gallon of water a day. Ruptured my eardrum day 2 blowing my nose after using the neti pot my doctor insisted I try (never again!). So now I’m not supposed to blow my nose. Every other antibiotic I’ve been on started clearing up my symptoms within 2 days. As a teacher, it’s next to impossible to be effective while sick like this. I have sinus and ear pain and tooth pain to contend with on top of lethargy and chronic headache. So for me, Augmentin has been ineffective. Never again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I was on Augmentin for 6 days with virtually no results. I woke up on the 6th day with a severe headache and called the doctor for another prescription. Probably the worst side effect, though, was a severe upset stomach and constipation to the point where medicines for upset stomach and suppositories did not help."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Some of these reviews had me worried because I hate side effects, but the throat was so painful I had to try it. Glad I did, I'm now on day 9 of two times daily, and the infection is gone, no pain. No side effects at all. No nausea, no diarrhea, no headaches. Worked well."

For Sinusitis "The doctor was hesitant to prescribe an antibiotic since Kaiser is against them unless you are knocking on death's door. But after suffering pounding headaches for a month, terrible mucus in the back of my throat, and finally shortness of breath, the doctor agreed to prescribe Augmentin for sinusitis. I had an earache, constant violent sneezing, exhaustion, and head congestion that was only continuing to worsen. After TWO pills, I felt like I'd been reborn. I did wake up at 2 am with the worst heartburn of my life, though, and chewed at least 15 Tums, took 2 Pepcid AC with milk, and still my guts were on fire. Take this medication with food and probiotics at intervals."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Strep Throat "I had a terrible strep infection. My throat was so painful, and my body ached. Was prescribed penicillin. After 4 doses and no improvement, returned to the doctor and was prescribed Augmentin. I knew the side effects would be bad but was desperate to see improvement in the strep, which 2 doctors described as a really bad case. After 2 doses, NO SIDE EFFECTS, my stomach was fine, I saw improvement in my throat. After the 3rd dose, I started noticing some upset stomach and a bad headache. Hoping this headache doesn't last."

For Bacterial Infection "I had empyema morning (infection around the lungs). This worked out perfect for me. I went into the hospital for 29 days and had amoxicillin with clavulanate through an IV and then took it orally for 6 weeks after! I can honestly say I didn't really get any side effects from it unless I was just too sick to realize. I was on metronidazole for 1 week before, and that was terrible, it would make me so tired I almost collapsed every time I took it. Then I was put onto the co-amoxiclav. I did get night shivers and sweat, also a headache, but I did quit smoking at the time of going into the hospital, so I would probably say that's why I had those problems. I wish you all well and wouldn't ever say no to this drug, you would be privileged to get it prescribed!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Aspiration Pneumonia "Augmentin caused severe neurological issues with my mother, where she exhibited stroke symptoms without having one and was very lethargic and lacked motor function. My father became very nauseous with severe headaches. I don't know why this drug is pushed on elderly people and want to tell everyone to beware of it!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I am at the end of day 3 of the medication, and I can't do it anymore. The side effects are making life miserable, just in a different way than I started with. I went in because of the headache and congestion that would not respond to anything over the counter, plus vertigo. The vertigo went away after the first day of meds, but the headache is significantly worse. Additionally, my stomach hurts really bad and constantly feels like I have overeaten a massive amount all the time, whether I have eaten or not. I have also had some mild diarrhea. So not worth it for me!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Was put on this for an ear and sinus infection. By my second day, I was having bad stomach cramps, excessive bowel movements, some diarrhea, nausea, body aches, joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, nerve tingling in legs and feet, constant headache. Also, I began spotting on my second day, and it was one week before my period was due, this never happens. I spotted until my period started. I have three more days left, and I feel worse than I did before I started it. My ear isn’t completely better yet either, my sinuses have cleared up some but not all the way. I called my doctor, and he said he is hesitant to change my script as my infection was/is so bad, and asked that I just push through side effects. Never again!"
