"I had swollen tonsils but no clear diagnosis (I think it was tonsillitis). This medicine brought down my swelling by day 6, which was nice. I am in my early 20s and had side effects. My chest hurt bad, I was extremely tired, on day 9 out of 10, I had very bad lower stomach pains. This medicine also made me very anxious and gassy. I wouldn't recommend it simply because of the side effects."

"The absolute worst! After taking the first dose, within 30 min I had terrible diarrhea and stomach rumbling. Two hours later, I was vomiting and have had the worst nausea ever since. It also gave me the worst anxiety and insomnia. Needless to say, I did not bother to take the second dose."

"Daughter (16) was prescribed this medicine for an inflamed lymph node. After a few days, I noticed her upper eyelids were swollen. Thought maybe she was just tired, but after a week, they are still swollen. She also sounds like she's getting a sinus infection (meds should clear it up... smh). She has also developed a white bump in her mouth, severe dry mouth, and an upset stomach (no diarrhea). Says she feels like she's really full. (Only way she can explain the stomach ache). I'm calling the doctor now. Anyone else have the swollen eyelids, etc?"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "My son had over half of the severe reactions to this medicine. He was prescribed this medicine for an ear infection. We spent a whole day in the doctor's office being tested for everything from cancer and blood disorders to simple viruses. Thankfully, we found out it was just a reaction to Augmentin. Our oldest son has had Augmentin before without any reaction whatsoever."

"I took one amoxicillin with clavulanate pill, and my stomach started having severe pain, severe nausea, and my skin felt very hot. It also upped my anxiety to a whole extreme. My doctor is just putting me on plain old amoxicillin. Thank goodness. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND."

"Taking medication for a tooth infection after a root canal went wrong. This is my seventh course of antibiotics in about three months. Not good! The others were plain old amoxicillin, which hasn't helped at all. This appears to be helping, but with just two tablets left, I still have swelling in my gums just below the sinus area. The good news is I have had no side effects apart from diarrhea and stomach ache on the first day, but I think this was due to my taking a load of probiotics, which can be hard on the stomach at the start. Halved probiotics to two three times a day, and now fine. I am sure the tooth will erupt again in a few days though."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Took first Augmentin dose at 10 pm, about 4 hours after dinner. Threw up violently every 2 hours from 1 AM through the night. Didn’t take the next dose this morning and was super nauseous, tired, and not hungry all day. Going to request a different drug. To be fair, I did not take it with food at the exact same time and did not know to take probiotics a couple of hours later until after reading everyone’s advice."

"I went to an urgent care center. I have a horrible dental abscess. My mouth is huge, and the throbbing was unbearable! I have a high pain tolerance too. I took my first dose of Augmentin (875 mg amox/125 mg clav) yesterday. I ate a bowl of cereal prior to taking it. I had very little nausea, and I have a weak stomach. The first 2 hours after taking this, I felt a little better and was happy. A few hours later, BAM! I was shaking, eyes burning, and I had a mild fever of 101. My body was aching just like the flu! I will NEVER take this stuff again! I am 30 years old and 112 lbs and was given the strongest dose, maybe it was just too strong for me? But after reading reviews and forums, I’ve read a lot of the same reviews! Grown men having the same side effects and doubling over. Yes, one dose helped me with the throbbing in my face/gums, but the flu-like symptoms I had to deal with weren’t worth it! I was done after one pill... I will NEVER TAKE THIS AGAIN!! Good luck."

"I told my doctor I was sensitive to meds. He gave me this anyway for a sinus infection and cough. After 2 pills, stomach cramps and diarrhea. Can't eat anything without diarrhea. My cough is worse, and I couldn't sleep last night because of hyperactivity. I am stopping the med immediately."

"I got sick about 3 weeks ago and was off work for 1 week. I went to see my Dr. who prescribed me Amox-Clav 850/125 mg for congestion in my lungs. I took 1 tablet for 2 days and discontinued taking it. A week later, I got almost the same symptoms back and decided to finish the drug as told by my Dr. I took one pill, and later that night I had a headache on my temple, which radiated down to my right cheek area and my upper teeth. Aspirin helped relieve the pressure, but I'm probably going to take ibuprofen. No good, this drug."

"Awful side effects. Baby was super cranky with her infection, and now she's even crankier due to the diarrhea, loose stools, and severe redness in the diaper area caused by this antibiotic. With just amoxicillin alone, this was not an issue."

"Day 8 of taking this for just another sinus infection. Have had horrible, HORRIBLE side effects. My body felt extremely strange, tingly almost. Nausea has been so bad I had to take a pregnancy test to eliminate that possibility. I did vomit today for the first time in years after a whiff of cleaning products. The infection has improved, but if you have a sensitive stomach - I don't advise. I did notice improvement (on nausea) on days I consistently chugged water (emphasis on chugged) and took the dose while eating."

"Started taking 24 hours ago. Last 12 hours have been having consistent and strong heart palpitations. Like my heart is about to jump out of my chest. Cannot sleep through the pounding. Has also brought on my anxiety condition, but it could be the heart rate triggering that. If I'm still like this in the morning, I'm taking myself back to the doctor. This does not feel right at all."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I don't tolerate antibiotics very well at all. I was put on this, and it was okay at first. After a couple of days, I definitely had severe nausea and some dizziness. I really had to force myself to eat. I was on 500 mg 2x daily for 10 days. I only made it for those 6 days. I wish I had made myself push through, but I couldn’t work dizzy. I also itched a little bit, not bad. Did not help UTI, probably because I stopped 4 days early. Side effects lingered a week, even after I stopped."

"Amoxi/Clav is a wonderful drug. I'm allergic to 5 different antibiotics, and this one I have almost NO side effects. I'm extremely prone to getting bacterial sinus infections, and I've been getting them for years, so probably twice a year I get a bacterial sinus infection, and Amoxi/Clav is the only thing that works for me, with next to nothing for side effects."

"I have a tooth infection at the root of an old root canal. Was having pain in jaw, neck, headaches, gums, and diarrhea. Within 1.5 days of taking the meds (500 mg x 3/day), I noticed less pain in the gums, and the diarrhea resolved. Very happy to have a medication work this fast and effectively. TMI, but it was nice to see a fully formed stool. I’ll start taking a probiotic soon, they recommend NOT taking this medication within 2 hrs of eating dairy products."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "My doctor gave me this to treat a recurring throat infection. After the first dose, I felt anxious, had swelling in my throat/tongue, and had difficulty breathing. I was admitted to the emergency room for an allergic reaction and was given Benadryl and Pepcid. Never again!"

"Was prescribed amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium 2x a day for 10 days. First day, I had chills. I took acidophilus daily while taking the Rx. By the 9th day, the bacterial infection, which was some combination of dental/sinus, was not better. It was not worse. But my doctor prescribed an additional course of the drugs because she knew I could not see a dentist. It may be coincidence, but after taking tablet 21, I awoke with the most severe nausea I have experienced in 7 decades of life. I then vomited 5 times, so severely, I think I may have internal injuries - that will have to be investigated. I'm uncertain if it did not affect my circulatory system. That was four days ago. I took no more of the Rx. I feel completely disabled. (I have not vomited for any reason until this, for 10 years). It could be a coincidence, but I wouldn't take this again. Ironically, on that 10th day, the possible bacterial infection seemed to be clearing up."

"I have taken regular amoxicillin before, but my doctor put me on this to clear up a sinus infection. BCBS covered it, and I took one dose when the prescription was filled with yogurt, milk, and chicken soup, and 2 hours later had intense diarrhea, and I vomited every 2-3 minutes from 4 pm to 9:30 pm. I thought I was literally going to die or have to have my stomach pumped or something. Made me severely dehydrated, and from all the vomiting, I had the most intense stomach pain I have ever felt in my life. Going in for a shot today and getting off this medication."

"I have a UTI and an ear infection. My doctor prescribed amox-clav (Augmentin) 875 MG 2 per day for 10 days. The first dose caused abdominal pain and vomiting. The second dose I took with food and the same thing happened. This medication is NOT good. I refuse to take any more of this drug. If you take it, prepare to be sick and prepare to stay home. You will need quick access to a bathroom."

"Took medicine for an ear infection. When I was on my last four pills, 2x a day, I ran into diarrhea. Got switched to plain amoxicillin for my last 4 pills, and I have been done with the pills for a week now, but still have diarrhea going on day 11 and have to submit a stool sample to the doctor tomorrow to see what's wrong."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Terrible. After 2 doses, I had shortness of breath. So scary. Couldn't breathe and felt like my throat was closing. Itchy skin and hives. I kept using my inhaler and took 2 Zyrtec. This lasted about 8 to 10 hours. Kept the phone in my hand to call 911 the whole time. Never again. Now I'm on 2 Zyrtec a day for the breathing, throat swelling, and rash. Miserable."

"I have used this medication for 25 years because of my bad sinuses that keep getting infected. I had been using it with almost no side effects until this last time. But now that I have joined the 50+ club, I am seeing uncomfortable side effects. Right now, I am on it, I feel like garbage, I am tired, pale, chills, having stomach upset, and started to get tingling in the face after 4 doses. I feel more stuffed up than I did before starting this. If I still feel like this on the next dose, I am stopping it. I feel worse than before I started it."

"This is my first time taking this drug for a bacterial infection from a bad tooth, and I have only one symptom, which is diarrhea. It's not bad at all though, and I've been taking this drug for 4 days now. I sleep well, eat well, and haven't vomited at all. I'm 47 years old, and the only question I have is... When is the swelling going away? I can't wait to get this infection out, so that I can get this tooth pulled. I do hope all is well with everyone that has taken the medication. Hopefully, I will never need to take it again."

"This medicine was so bad. I gave it to my son for a sinus infection. During 6 to 7 a.m., he came to me and complained about stomach pain, and then all of a sudden, he ran to the bathroom and threw up a lot, five times. We found out about the side effects when we all woke up!! This all happened, and it was day one of the medication. Please refer another medicine."
