Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth "I took Augmentin for a second episode of diverticulitis. The first time around (two years ago), I took Cipro and Flagyl, which felt like a controlled forest burn of my intestines. Augmentin was MUCH easier to tolerate. I second those who’ve suggested taking it with probiotics. This makes all the difference. I took one or two probiotics about 2 hours before and also 2 hours after each dose. Definitely take it with a large snack or meal. Experienced only some mild indigestion about 30 minutes after taking it. My symptoms started improving around day 3 with continued improvement. For probiotics, I took a broad-spectrum one with multiple strains plus a high-powered version of Florastor. I was terrified of taking Augmentin after reading all the reviews, but dove in with the proper supports because there was no way I was going back to the Cipro combo. Good luck, and I hope it works for you!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Went to urgent care with a toothache. Told I had a severe sinus infection. Mind you, I've had swelling on the left side of my face for 5 years, been through every test out there for answers with no success. Ever since the swelling started, I've suffered ear infections (left side only) and sinus infections to no end. Dentist would tell me my X-rays don't look normal but offered no explanation. Okay, so urgent care prescribed penicillin 500 mg, but I explain to the doctor that I may have a tolerance to that with all the antibiotics I've been on, so she prescribes Augmentin 875 2x a day for 10 days. Over a few days, I'm dizzy, nauseous, pressure headaches like my brain is being squeezed. The worst medicine EVER!!!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bronchitis "Went to urgent care for chronic bronchitis, and the doc gave me Biaxin, which I told him did not work in the past. Fever elevated two degrees in two days. Went back, he gave me doxycycline, which eventually stopped the yellow mucus production for a few days, then right back. I went to my own doctor this morning, and she gave me Augmentin. Have an allergy to Avelox. After one dose, I can tell this is working better than doxycycline did in two days, so definitely recommend."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "This medicine is causing me serious neck, shoulder, and back pain. I took the first dose around 5:30-6 pm and woke up the next morning so sore it’s unsafe to drive because it hurts so much to turn my head and check my blind spot. I am supposed to take 875-125 mg tabs (whatever that means) twice a day for 10 days. I’ve taken 11 of 20 and have had difficulty functioning and sleeping since. I can’t wait for it to be over!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I was prescribed this from the hospital for sinusitis. I’ve been on all types of antibiotics in my life, and this stuff is horrible. Woke up this morning convinced I was dying. Anxiety, panic attacks, tarry stool, chest and back pain, side pain, chest tightness, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, pale, dizziness, headache. I could go on. Stopped dosage and heading to PCP tomorrow to figure out what’s going on now."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "3 hours after my first dose of Augmentin 875, I started vomiting in addition to diarrhea. I thought I had a stomach flu. I waited 5-6 days to restart the antibiotic. Well, 3 hours after that dose, guess where I was, in the bathroom vomiting again for several hours! I will NEVER take this medicine again!!! I've had Augmentin before but only experienced nausea. Not anymore! :("

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed amoxicillin for a tooth abscess/infection. The medicine worked great and cleared it up. Side effects: slight yeast infection (quickly warded off by eating plenty of plain Greek probiotic yogurt). Also, my stomach was fine throughout the whole course, but once I finished the medication (6 days later), I have come down with nausea and diarrhea and dizziness that lasted for 3 days. It still beats a toothache."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Augmentin: The first time I took it was about 8 years ago. It did the job quickly, but I had diarrhea for about a year. {Not kidding! I also developed plantar fasciitis for a brief period, possibly due to a lack of certain nutrients caused by the extended bout of diarrhea.} I did not know what probiotics were at the time!? :( I blamed myself and that other guy, my doctor, for not mentioning the benefits of probiotics. Probiotics maintain a healthy level of good bacteria that most antibiotics will destroy. This prevents or minimizes greatly any diarrhea. Augmentin also contains clavulanic acid, which causes the upset stomach. Ranitidine, which is an acid reducer, can help soften the sour stomach often associated with Augmentin. Augmentin does work!!!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Was prescribed Augmentin 875/125 tab twice daily for 10 days for bacterial sinusitis. I am currently on day 8 now. I was a little iffy about this medication the first two days, as it did upset my stomach and cause many trips to the restroom, even using with food as directed. Day three, I had a nasty headache and insomnia. But honestly, by day 4, I felt pretty good. Actually awoke without any congestion. Energy started returning. Day 5-6, I started having some nausea and congestion again upon waking, but trips to the restroom stopped. Day 8, mild congestion, but feel normal for once. Doc did advise if the post-nasal drip, etc., didn't cease, I may need to see an ENT. So I'd say that this med is doing its job handling the bacterial infection at least. Feel 90% better. Symptoms were uncomfortable when they hit, not unbearable."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I had prostate cancer and a very bad kidney infection for over 4 years. The doctor had prescribed many different medications, but nothing worked for over 4 years. He finally prescribed Amoxicillin and Clavulanate. Within 6 hours, 99% of the burning had disappeared, and I could finally sleep more than 1 hour at a time. Great medicine for me."

For Bacterial Infection "I had a painful tooth that got infected and caused swelling of my right jaw within only 3 days. The doctor prescribed me this antibiotic amoxicillin/clavulanate, 875 mg dose 2x to take for 10 days and go to a root canal on the 7th day. I have a phobia of taking medications because of previous bad side effects. Since I have taken plain amoxicillin many times without any major problems, I gave this a go. I took one pill in the morning with my breakfast, and 2 hours later, got violently ill, throwing up until I couldn't, literally, the acid was burning my stomach and throat. Five minutes later, I started peeing from my butt for 30 minutes, liquid diarrhea, I was very weak and spent the day in bed. I only took one single pill. The doctor said it is a bad reaction, now I have to figure out what to take because I am allergic to most of the antibiotics, and the tooth pain is on the next level."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "After a couple of hours after taking an 875 mg tab, my stomach became rock hard. I had the most debilitating stomach cramps known to man. I've never vomited as much and as hard as I did that day. The diarrhea was like I was urinating out of my anus. After drinking a bottle of kefir, I was good again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "I'm on day 3 out of 10 of Augmentin 875/125 twice a day for a sinus infection. So far, I haven't had any serious side effects, however, I'm starting to experience loss of appetite, drowsiness, diarrhea, and dizziness within the first 2.5 hours of taking a dose. It is also causing insomnia, but I take a sleeping pill, and I'm fine. Other than that, the medicine is working great. I'm feeling better already (I can breathe again, my head doesn't feel like 100 lbs! pressure is inside it). It is a very strong antibiotic, so if you take it, be sure to drink PLENTY of fluids, get lots of rest, and try some yogurt for the abdominal cramps from the diarrhea, it seems to help for me!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed 250/125 Augmentin 3x daily for a bad UTI that was turning into a kidney infection and hadn't responded to Cipro. The fatigue, fever, and chills are bad enough with a UTI, but add Augmentin and it amplified it by 10. I have been in bed since I started taking it two days ago, I can't stop shaking and my joints feel like they're going to explode! Not to mention the vivid, hallucinogenic type nightmares and the constant feeling of paranoia and feeling on the brink of a panic attack! If you have anxiety like I do, DO NOT TAKE THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO! I had a mental breakdown about taking another dose as I don't feel I can handle these side effects much longer. 9/10 would not take again, doesn't seem to be helping the infection."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Was prescribed Augmentin 875/125 for a bad chest infection twice a day for 14 days six months ago, and I barely made it to day 10 and had to quit. I felt horrible, constantly sick to my stomach - gut sick, pain, bloating, gas, and my body felt like the flu, with body aches and strange sweat episodes, and a pounding heartbeat occasionally. Recently, I had a bad case of a sinus infection, so I requested a lower dose of 500 mg when prescribed the same medicine for 7 days, twice a day. I am on day 5 today and absolutely cannot take it anymore; same symptoms. I feel worse, my head is pounding, my stomach is completely full of nausea and gut sick with pain, and I have experienced a small low-grade fever with sweats this time, and brain fog. So that, with all the body aches and burning eyes - I am just gonna let it go again, because I tried. I, however, never had any reactions to Doxycycline or Keflex, but Augmentin is like taking a flu pill for rapid onset."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bronchitis "Every spring and fall in Dallas, everyone gets allergies. This always turns into a sinus infection and bronchitis in a week or two, and this medication takes care of it without any other complications."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin and Structure Infection "Had a cat bite me on my hand... full set of teeth and sharp. Hand swelled and was red. Took Augmentin 8 hours after being bitten, and within 3 days, swelling went down and redness had faded. 6 years as an animal control officer and never injured once... helped my friend pick out a cat at the local humane society and got bitten... oh, the irony! This is excellent medicine for cat bites. Had a friend tell me her dad got bitten by a cat, and he ended up in the hospital and was gravely ill from an infection. Lucky me, from my experience I knew to seek medical attention immediately. Anyone bitten by a cat should know they have about an 85% chance of infection and need to take it very seriously or you'll end up in the hospital."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Skin and Structure Infection "I have an active pilonidal cyst. For those not familiar with this condition, it is extremely painful. It involves a massive infection. I have been treated with Augmentin XR for 11 days so far. After about 8 days, I could feel a noticeable improvement. It works great, however, it is rather rough on your digestive system."

For Skin and Structure Infection "During an emergency, my cat bit my index finger. After about 20 minutes, I washed the wound with hot water and soap, then rinsed with alcohol and applied an antibiotic ointment. The skin around the puncture wound became warm, pink, and started to swell 6 hours later. I began the 875/125 mg amoxicillin/clavulanic acid 24 hours after that. By then, the closest joint was aching and the symptoms had spread to the palm. About an hour after taking the tablet, I slowly opened and closed my hand into a tight fist about 15 times to increase blood circulation. Within 12 hours, most of the symptoms had dissipated. The joint was still a little stiff. Puncture wounds from cat bites are serious. See a doctor or start antibiotics at the first sign of infection!"

For Bacterial Infection "I went to my PCP after a week of suffering from what I believed to be both a throat and sinus infection. He prescribed me 875 mg amoxicillin with clavulanate. He stated it was a strong dosage and reminded me to take it with food, preferably some sort of yogurt or probiotic. My symptoms were fairly severe, but less than 2 days after starting this antibiotic, I began to feel better. I'm now 5 days in, and 90% of my symptoms have subsided. I have had 0 side effects thus far. No upset stomach, no nausea, nothing. I'm very pleased with this antibiotic."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Sinusitis "Colds turn into sinus infections pretty easily on me. Yes, I wait a while before I go to the doctor for antibiotics, as most sinus infections are viral. By the time I went to the doc with this one, I was MISERABLE. Hurting down into my jaw even. Within a few hours of taking the first pill, there was relief. I never knew I could have so much disgusting stuff come out of my nose. I always take probiotics (especially while on antibiotics) to decrease GI side effects. TAKE PROBIOTICS. Nausea and diarrhea are possible with any antibiotic."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate for Bacterial Infection "I took it for a severely abscessed tooth. It did clear up after 5 days (2 1000 mg tabs a day). However, I felt horrible the entire time. Gave me so much anxiety that I had 2 panic attacks. I had headaches, stomach pain, and diarrhea. No appetite, even though you have to eat in order to tolerate the medicine. My infection was really bad, and I'm thankful that the Augmentin cleared it up, but I'm not sure if I would be willing to take it again."
