Alprazolam "Helps anxiety symptoms that POTS (a form of dysautonomia) causes. Someone else who reviewed alprazolam said it helps to keep them sane with their dysautonomia. I have to agree; it also helps to keep me sane. I'm on Xanax XR 2 mg once a day. Also helps insomnia caused by POTS with the adrenaline surges. Have combined Xanax XR with tramadol and I can function a lot better now!"

"I have a form of dysautonomia, anxiety/panic, HEDS, insomnia, chronic pain, muscle spasms, hypothyroidism, and a bunch of other stuff. Xanax or forms of benzodiazepines seem to help with anxiety, hyperhidrosis, heart rate, feelings of someone standing on my chest. Within 15-30 minutes, my symptoms go away and I can go on with my day like a normal person. My doctors don't listen to my concerns with this being so helpful. They just want to try to set me up to try things that I've tried in the past, and it never worked."

"This is the only med that keeps my adrenaline surges under control. This is a godsend for dysautonomia, specifically postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) patients that have no control over when the ANS decides to release adrenaline, putting us in 'overdrive' with flooding anxiety. I also take other meds: SSRI and beta blockers. This one is crucial in my day-to-day functioning."

"Xanax has been a godsend for my POTS. I originally went on it for anxiety related to a traumatic event at work (I am a paramedic, use your imagination). It was supposed to be a temporary med twice a day at 0.5 mg so I could sleep and function at work, but has ended up being a (hopefully) permanent med that helps my POTS so much. The stupid random adrenaline surges caused by POTS have all but disappeared. I am almost never super dizzy. My insomnia is better, my exercise tolerance is better, and my overall health and happiness have improved. Even my migraines and GI issues have improved, probably from the reduction in cortisol surging through my system. I am writing this review so that hopefully anyone struggling to convince their doctor that they need Xanax can show them this review along with all the other ones and be persuaded to at least give it a chance. Xanax is a drug with a lot of stigma, but it can be so incredibly helpful and massively improve quality of life."

"I suffered for years before my dysautonomia diagnosis. I was treated for migraine auras. Told I had conversion disorder and that I was having seizures. Fast forward to last week, sudden onset of convulsions and my insides feeling like they were vibrating nonstop. I have SFN, and the burning mouth had been unbearable for weeks even with 3600 mg of Neurontin. Transported twice to the ER where they treated me horribly. My dysautonomia specialist told me to take half a tab of Xanax (alprazolam) at the first feeling of jitters or convulsive warning, and it works, I feel almost normal after a week of this. I already take 1 mg at bedtime and have since May. I am able to continue working full time because of how well this controls my surges. Before finding a doctor willing to prescribe this for spasms, these episodes could carry on for months. I am grateful."

"Alprazolam (Xanax) helps me in way more than one. I quit having blood pooling in my arms and legs, no more being lightheaded all the time, I can actually stand comfortably for more than 3 minutes, and I don't feel like I'm out of breath and can't breathe! Before I started taking Xanax, I was bedridden most of the time, and that's a difficult task when you have a 5 and 8-year-old!!! But yes, alprazolam has saved me!"

"Not only does it help my anxiety, but it also helps to relax the muscles in my back. I broke my back in 2002, was sent home on a Saturday morning at 10 a.m. from a 15-foot fall, breaking my 2nd and 3rd lower lumbar vertebrae in my lower back. I was given 2 Demerol pills for the whole weekend, and told to go see my family doctor for full-time pain management. That's Canadian health care for you. Wouldn't even give me a prescription to get me through the weekend, just 2 Demerol pills. I have been taking four 0.5 mg a day, and I have been able to cut my pain medication in almost half (Fentanyl and Dilaudid)."

"I was prescribed alprazolam years ago to help with occasional anxiety. COVID induced POTS and dysautonomia for me in 2020, and I’ve been searching for treatment ever since. Beta blockers hardly help, but I discovered the alprazolam controls the adrenaline, dizziness, difficulty standing, etc. I take 0.25 mg once or twice a day without any side effects."

"I combine this with propranolol in order to calm down a flare-up. If I don't get it in me at the very start of the flare-up, I can end up in the hospital. This keeps me out of the hospital. Unfortunately, because of the stigma of benzos, I am supposed to be weaned off of it. But given the choice between going to the ER and using this to treat at home, I definitely prefer this. I think the only reason I don't like taking it is because I've been told I shouldn't like taking it. I take three 0.25 mg a day plus as-needed doses. I try not to take any as-needed doses, but sometimes that's just impossible. If you're struggling with your dysautonomia, I highly recommend giving this a try. There are also other benzos if Xanax doesn't work."
