For Osteoporosis "Have resisted alendronate sodium for years, but finally gave in. Took, I think, 5 doses (once a week). After last dose had such severe pain in hip, leg, knee, most of right side - the worst pain I have ever had, and I have had two babies and two hip replacements. Blood work, urine work, and x-rays revealed nothing serious. Two weeks later, I am a little better on strong pain meds. Could not sit or stand up without crying out in pain. Am hoping to have full recovery. BTW I am the one who realized the connection and told my doctor, not the other way around. I would NEVER recommend this to anyone!"

For Osteoporosis "Started Fosamax, this weekly medication. Took 3 doses and stopped after the 3rd because of severe pain, swelling, and decreased range of motion in wrists and right elbow. Startling side effects - (never have side effects), I would not recommend this medication to anyone. Ever."

For Osteoporosis "I agree all drugs have side effects, but Fosamax is dangerous. My mom has been taking it for the last 2 weeks, and since then she has been having all sorts of pain and discomfort that she never had before. The doctor said they would eventually go away, but she ended up hospitalized with severe pain in her jaw, chest, neck, and basically everywhere. I don't know why this medicine is even in the market."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I was prescribed Fosamax for osteopenia. I have taken a total of 6 doses. I had no side effects for the first 2 weeks. By the 3rd week, extreme fatigue and headaches. I continued for another 3 weeks hoping symptoms would go away. When they didn't, I discontinued taking it. But a week AFTER I quit, I developed severe bone pain, unbearable pain which is worse at night. I am taking arthritis drug to make the days bearable. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THIS PAIN EVENTUALLY GOES AWAY!! I will be calling my Dr. on Monday."

For Osteoporosis "I took 3 Alendronate pills for my osteoporosis. Three days after my second pill, I began to experience some general pain and flu-like symptoms, but did take the third pill not knowing what was wrong. In a few more days, I literally could not walk because of the severe pain in my right knee and my right hip. I have only mild RA in my right knee, none in my hip. That was 4 months ago. I am currently just beginning to get my mobility back. What a horrid experience this has been. My doc now wants me to try Prolia. What??? Never. I did report my experience to the FDA."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "Approximately 3 years ago, my rheumatologist prescribed Fosamax for osteopenia. I took it every Sunday for approximately 9 months. I started noticing that on Mondays my muscles and joints hurt. Sometimes the pain was so bad, I just wanted to stay in bed or lie on the sofa. It finally occurred to me that the Fosamax might be the culprit. That following Sunday, I did not take Fosamax. Monday morning I woke up and the horrible muscle and bone pain was non-existent. The next Sunday I omitted taking Fosamax again. Monday morning, no debilitating pain. I stopped the Fosamax."
