For Pain "I was in a serious car accident and severely injured my leg. It was put back together by metal, but I am in chronic pain. I currently take Vicodin ES and live a pain-free life. This medication is extremely helpful in allowing me to lead a normal life."

For Pain "For some reason, this is the only pain killer I can tolerate. I have been prescribed different types of medicines, and they are either too strong or don't work. The only problem I have is when you tell the doctor this, they act like you are an addict, which I am not. I am just telling them what works for me so I don't waste my money on a script that doesn't work. Doctors can't figure out why I have chronic pain."

For Back Pain "After an injury, I got a prescription for 60 tablets of Vicodin. The old class, I mean, 500/5. After one tablet, I felt almost no relief. After two Vicodins, my pain goes away within 30 minutes. I am pain-free for a good 5 hours. I feel a little happy, drowsy, constipated a little."

For Back Pain "Responding to Ilona (rev 3/28/23), I recommend you switch to oxycodone. Tylenol is not great for your liver, and if your pain has any inflammatory element, Advil will be more effective, though much harder on the stomach. Addiction risk aside, oxycodone is much gentler on the body. Your problem is almost certainly plain old tolerance. You could go to 4 Vicodin/day, and maybe it will be enough, but then you'll be at the limit. Six months later, you'll have more tolerance and then have to switch. Better to switch now, and you'll definitely be able to titrate your dose up as needed. Vicodin 10-500 is okay, but for extreme pain, for me, it's not strong enough. Disclaimer: I'm a redhead, and while it sounds nuts, pain meds truly don't work as well on us."

For Pain "I am 25 years of age, and I am a chronic pain patient. Three years ago (2009), I began to feel chronic pain all over my body; more and more as time goes on. There isn't a muscle in my body that doesn't hurt. Vicodin has saved my life! I've been on eight 5 mg tablets daily. Were it not for Vicodin, my ability to perform everyday tasks would be severely compromised. Normal activities, whether it's mowing the lawn or even getting out of bed, are difficult. My pain level ranges between 5 and 9. Vicodin always takes all the pain away. I highly recommend this medicine if you are seeking relief from chronic pain."

For Pain "WOW! I had oral surgery, and when the anesthesia wore off, the whole side of my face hurt worse than any pain I'd ever had before. I couldn't even touch a tissue to my runny nose without going through the roof. Within minutes of taking the Vicodin, not only was the pain gone, but I was able to sleep through the night."

For Pain "I am 50 years old and have had severe rheumatoid arthritis for more than 6 years. I was taking Advil like candy for years until I was diagnosed with arthritis. My 1st rheumatologist put me on 7.5/750's 3 times daily, and it worked well. After changing doctors after major lung surgery, they sent me to a pain management doctor who put me on Duragesics then MS Contin. That sure got rid of the pain, but the depressant effects of morphine-based medications made me miserable. Hydrocodone or even oxycodone work very well as long as you don't abuse them. I'd wish more pain management people would get off the morphine dependency. This kind of treatment makes it hard to treat pain after major surgeries."

For Pain "The Vicodin 10/300 is my last resort for migraines when Frova/Imitrex does not work. I take it with Zofran because I am always nauseated with my migraines, and very rarely do I have to take another dose to get rid of the migraine. This medication has saved me from going to the ER numerous times."

For Pain "I am a 70-year-old woman. I have spinal stenosis. Each day I wake up thinking I won't need to take Vicodin today, but I do. I take 2 when the pain starts, and it always takes the pain away. If I wait too long to see if the 'pain will get better by itself,' I'm only fooling myself. It never gets better by itself! My doctor tells me not to worry about addiction, that he knows how often I take it, and he keeps track. So I let him do it."

For Pain "I am in my 40s and have got Frozen Shoulder in my left shoulder. My doctor prescribed Vicodin 5-500 mg, and it takes the edge off the pain. After the first prescription of 30 pills were gone, I requested a refill. My doctor said he would only refill that bottle once more, and that is it, stating that I would have to endure the pain. He did not want me to become addicted. Well, I appreciate the concern, but what about my pain? My pills have not run out yet, but when they do, there will be a constant pain. It affects my happiness, work, etc."

For Pain "As someone who's experienced a few kidney stones in their lifetime, Vicodin and Advil are the only things that can keep me from squirming in pain on the floor. Vicodin doesn't make me nauseous, whereas oxycodone-based painkillers do."

For Pain "Nope! Dentist gave me these after an extraction, and I ended up in the ER with an allergic reaction. It made my stomach feel like it was being pulled like taffy. I will avoid pain medication altogether after those."

For Pain "I am 22 years old and have had 2 micro-disc surgeries on the L5. The first on 1/19/04, the second on 7/19/04. I'm 5'10" 125 lbs. For a couple of years, I relied heavily on ibuprofen due to lack of insurance and was taking 8-16 a day depending on weather conditions and working conditions. I now have insurance and have been taking Vicodin 500 mg up to 3 times a day for almost a year now and live a more pain-free life."

For Back Pain "That stuff made me so sick I wanted to die. It was like a terminal case of the flu. And OxyContin made me itch so bad I scratched with a hairbrush. Guess I wouldn't be a very good addict. I have a magnetic belt I ordered from a catalog, and it helps more than medication - perhaps it's the magnets, but I suspect it's more a case of giving me more back support. Prescribed back braces were too big and heavy to wear, so they're out. I think every person who ever suffered from real back pain would be overwhelmed with joy if there was just a magic wand that would take the pain away permanently."

For Pain "On a positive note, this has helped me to live a pain-free life. I have severe diabetes, peripheral vascular disease which causes severe leg pain and cramps, especially at night. Since I work with kids in a big high school campus, I am able to work and contribute to society when taking Vicodin once a day."

For Pain "I have been suffering from migraines for over 8 years. This past time, the doctor ended up giving me Vicodin to relieve the pain and get rid of the migraine. And I am loving it, as long as I take the Vicodin when I am supposed to, I am without pain. The only bad thing about the Vicodin is the dry mouth and the fact that I feel detached from everything. But I can live with those two things in order to get rid of a migraine. I would recommend this medicine to anyone who has a migraine and can't get rid of it (I had mine for over 2 weeks before going to the doctor)!"

For Pain "I've been taking Vicodin or something like it for years. First for migraine headache and occasional back pain. Total of maybe 30 pills a year. My most pressing need was bouts with cellulitis. If I were to describe the pain, think placing your leg in a bucket of scalding water up to the knee. I took it round the clock for a few weeks. I now take it for chronic knee and hip pain. The dosage is 5 mg 3 times a day as needed. I rarely ever take 3 doses. Most days maybe 1 or 2, and if the pain is manageable, I don't use it at all. I'm averaging 60 pills every 4 months. The talk of addiction precludes me from taking it when I (or even my wife) feel I should. I've never felt high or drugged. The only side effect I see is less pain."

For Pain "Vicodin: it is useless as all get out for pain; I find it absolutely insane and hilarious how this is the most commonly abused opioid in the United States of America. I mean, I cannot wrap my mind around how this is worth it compared to placebos. I am like, how in the dang world is Vicodin abused."

For Pain "I have a lot of different types of pain, but the two constant pains I have are arthritis and tailbone pain. The best way I have found to describe it is that it's like sitting on a sharpened egg. For fourteen years. I am only pain-free for about three hours every day. I take two Vicodin in the morning (my bedtime, as I work third shift). It takes about an hour to really hit. I take one when I wake up and four and one more when I go back to sleep for three hours at nine. With the two latter doses, my pain isn't completely gone, but the edge is dulled. I can deal with it. I have been taking Vicodin for eight years. If someone knows a physician who would be willing to remove my tailbone, it would probably cut my use in half."

For Pain "Prescribed this after wisdom tooth removal. Worked fine with no issues at a fairly low dose. Use the lowest dose for only as long as needed. Then used Tylenol after that for a few days, and all went well. Use these as your doc says only."

For Back Pain "I started taking Vicodin and carisoprodol, 1 tab twice a day. I lived with pain for years until I started the medicines. But now it's creeping up to where I have to take them all the time. Usually, I take two Vicodin and 1 carisoprodol or the other way around just to feel fine. I worry because I understand it can be addictive."

For Pain "I had a wisdom tooth removed and was Rx’d this drug, and after taking triple the recommended dose, I can confidently say this drug provided absolutely ZERO relief for me. I know everyone is different, but how is Tylenol on its own better than an opiate with acetaminophen?? Lol."

For Back Pain "I recently had an acute flare-up with my sciatica. The pain was unbearable with complete numbness down my right leg. I have suffered for 8 years with chronic sciatic pain wavering in intensity. This last time I went to my doctor requesting painkiller relief stronger than the diclofenac and baclofen I usually take, which was ineffective. I was prescribed the 5/500 strength, 1 three times a day. This had zero effect on my pain. I took additional acetaminophen to augment the 500 mg in the Vicodin. I have an appointment this week to seek a medicine that will bring me relief so I can enjoy life again."

For Pain "I am not really impressed with the pain control I receive from Vicodin. I have a long history of chronic pain related to my disease, lupus. I have had lupus for 20 years. As I get older, the pain seems to get harder to deal with. Fortunately, I am still able to work and function on a daily basis. I am fully aware of all of the side effects, for me, the benefit almost always outweighs the risks. I don't understand why doctors are so afraid to give you something different that may actually work better for me. They are so concerned with addiction. Vicodin is addictive!!! I don't understand their rationale."

For Back Pain "I have chronic sciatica from wearing a gun belt for 15 years. This is the only medicine that helps me live pain-free. I have to work to support myself and try to save my house. If I am in pain, I have to call in sick, and then it's downhill."
