For Headache "I'm a migraine sufferer and allergic to the triptans, which are generally prescribed for migraine relief, i.e., Imitrex and its family, so my doctor prescribed Fioricet, and it works great for me. I no longer have to rely on Excedrin and taking six of them to find relief. Two Fioricet, and I'm typically good to go. The Tylenol content doesn't bother me because I was taking a lot more with the Excedrin. I'm also on 100 mg of Topamax twice daily for control, which is all I've ever found to work, and I've been quite the guinea pig there."

For Headache "I've suffered from migraines and tension headaches my whole life. And the only two medications that could give me any relief were ketorolac (Toradol) and Cafergot. But Toradol is really only meant for 5-day spans due to bad side effects, and Cafergot insurance doesn't cover it anymore, and the cash price is insanely expensive. So if it wasn't for Fioricet, it would be hard to deal with no pain control."

For Headache "My experience with Fioricet is that it lessens my headache but does not stop them, and I end up having to take more for relief. In my opinion, it is not the most effective treatment, specifically for me. I am happy for those for whom it works."

For Headache "Yes... great medicine for migraines. However, the barbiturate in this drug can be bad. Before I knew I was bipolar, I took this medicine. It made me go mentally insane for about a week out of the month. Something in my brain did not like it."

For Headache "I have used this medication for over 10 years as needed. It takes some time for your body to get used to it, but it takes care of my migraines faster than anything I have taken. I do use over-the-counter medicines to control the headaches that are not as severe or when I can bear it. It works great for me. It lets me continue living without the pain while managing the headache at work or on the go."

For Headache "I have gone through more medicines than I can count, looking for something that helps with my debilitating migraines. Recently, my doctor prescribed Fioricet. What a relief to finally find something that works! The trick is to take the medication as soon as possible. If you wait until the migraine has gotten too far, it does not help much."

For Headache "I like this medicine for tension headaches. It works fast. The bad side is, it makes me jittery and on edge. It must be the low dose of caffeine. I really don't know. But I take it as a last resort. I don't get sleepy or tired. Just a little 'out of it.' I know the caffeine is there to help, just wish it was lower. I also take Ativan. Not at the same time, a few hours later. It gets rid of the Fioricet jitters. Hate to have to take them both in the same day. I have too much to do to put my brain in a fog and my nerves on high alert. With my job, I need to be focused. Can't take on a workday. Maybe it's time to try something else. But this does work for tension. So if you can be at home, a good headache med to take."

For Headache "I've had migraines since I was 12, they went away from the time I was 16 until recently at the age of 20. I've been hospitalized because they have been so severe this time around. Fioricet is the only thing that has any effect on my migraines, but it takes about two hours to even start to help. Even then, it'll only knock it from a ten down to a nine, or an eight if I'm really lucky. I have linked my headaches back to food allergies, which I'm discovering more and more of every week. I have to read every ingredient and prepare all meals myself, which is extremely difficult as a college student commuting. If you cannot find the source of your migraines, try eliminating malted wheat barley, MSG, sodium nitrate, and chocolate."

For Headache "I've been dealing with migraines and tension headaches for 21 years and now sinus problems. OTC medicines will work for a short time, but I'd have to take them throughout the day. Fioricet is the only thing that will help with all types of headaches for me. I've tried Imitrex, Zomig, Indomethacin, Toradol, etc., and Fioricet comes out ahead of them all. Now I'm on Topamax, Elavil, and Fioricet to control my headaches."

For Headache "I tried this medicine today with no headache relief. I did get drowsy, and all of the muscles in my body were completely relaxed, however, I still had the migraine. Per my neurologist's recommendation, I waited 2 hours before taking Indocin. Still no luck. The only medicine that I have found to stop a migraine is Treximet, however, that has to be taken at the FIRST sign of the migraine. Anything later and it is too late. I am glad Fioricet works well for some people, but all it does for me is cause drowsiness and muscle relaxation. I wish I could get migraine relief from it."

For Headache "I have taken this medication for approximately 25 years. Sometimes I go months without taking it if I do not wake up wanting or craving one. The dosage is two every four hours, I take one in a 24-hour period. Maybe I am not addicted to this. I cannot take NSAIDs, Aleve, Tylenol, or any of that, I’m allergic to it. Why can’t they just leave the Iris set on my list of medications? It’s the only thing that has ever worked besides a strong opiate, and I do not want to take one of those. It works fine for me. It always has. I’ve never had a problem with it. I know I’ve been taking it, as I said, forever, everything else I felt like I had to have water. It wasn’t going to go away with the fear that I do not feel like it works for me."

"I was first prescribed Fioricet (Fiorinol) 25 years ago. Since then, it has been just about the only medicine I've taken which successfully alleviated my migraines. The only exception was the Imitrex injection. As new medicines came out, my doctors would ask me to try them, but I always went back to my Fioricet."

For Headache "Helped tremendously with headaches, but I am wary of how much Tylenol is in it. My doctor said no more than 4 a day. I take one because I worry about liver damage. It really takes my headache away, but when it returns, I won't take another one."

For Headache "I take this almost every 2-5 days due to my unbearable tension headaches. This past time (I am Rx'd 2 tabs every 4-6 hrs), I took my entire daily taking, which is what, max 12? and I took them all but staggered, and I ended up in the ER with a shot of Naloxone from overdosing on the butalbital. Not sure naloxone works on barbs... but they gave it to me anyway. I was so out of it I couldn't see or talk right. I'm someone who takes benzos... or used to, that is, so I can handle that type of feeling. BUT... at the end of the day, this medication DOES work for tension headaches and helps me sleep, the caffeine, in my opinion, is canceled out by the butalbital. I take the non-scheduled, no codeine version, although I wish I was. I'd cut back on 'em."

"I began taking Fioricet for debilitating headaches probably ten years ago. This drug was very effective. As I have gotten older (71), my headaches have decreased in frequency. Fioricet still helps with neck pain from arthritis that Tylenol alone doesn't alleviate. When I wake up in pain from maybe overexertion (raking leaves, lifting my grandchildren, heavy housework), Fioricet always gives me relief and helps me sleep. I usually take two tablets as needed, perhaps once a week."

For Headache "First, regardless of opinions and feelings, this is an addictive drug. Anything that gives a euphoric state, release of chemicals like dopamine and can't (shouldn't) be immediately stopped after consistent long-term use is. I've had a litany of medical conditions, abundant and odd enough to personally wonder if I could be a hypochondriac, my whole life (31 now)... since ~12 severe migraines. I was constantly pushing the extreme danger threshold of triptan frequency and had been through neuro-clinics, hormone treatment, everything. It was only after being admitted to the hospital -- roseola meningitis (yup, and no, I don't have AIDS), which was causing a massive migraine that literally immobilized me, that I was prescribed Escig. After a lifetime of constantly balancing prescribed controlled substances, I didn't really want to add another to the list. The risk/benefit ratio is simply too vital to ignore, especially when it cuts out a triptan/loss of a day and intense risk of stroke."

For Headache "Had a seizure for an entire day after not taking this. The situation was a headache, but migraine level, so maybe a migraine. Lights were overpowering, sound was too loud, I couldn’t focus on simply existing. So a hospitalist prescribed me this. After, I had the first seizure of my life, it lasted about half a day. My mother, luckily, was around the house and noticed something was off, but it was hours into seizing that she realized what was happening. I awoke in the hospital restrained to the bed and no idea how I got there. If you take multiple medicines, stay away from Fioricet. Now at every hospital visit, I’m put safely with towels around the bed and have no freedom to even walk. All because of this one experience. Beware of Fioric."

For Headache "I was prescribed Fioricet for migraines. Not only didn't it help the migraine, Fioricet caused my heart rate to skyrocket (due to the amount of caffeine it contains) and gave me an absolutely wicked rebound headache the next day. In fact, the rebound headache was worse than the original migraine. Needless to say, I threw the rest of the pills down the toilet. Fioricet is also extremely addicting if taken more than 3 times per month. Astonishingly, I was prescribed 1 to 2 tablets every 8 hours for migraines with no warning whatsoever from my doctor about how addicting this medication is. Thank God it didn't work for me or else I'd be a Fioricet addict facing withdrawal whenever the drug isn't taken. It should be taken off the market."

For Headache "I was prescribed Fioricet last week for chronic headaches. I have suffered from daily headaches for over 6 years and until recently, have been able to dull them down, though they never fully go away, with high doses of OTC ibuprofen. I've been to the neurologist and was prescribed Imitrex and antidepressants. None worked. I have been taking the Fioricet for a week, and every time I take it, it turns my headache into a borderline migraine. Makes it so much worse, and my feet and ankles have swollen. Now I have varicose veins and broken capillaries in my ankles. I think I may be the 1% that cannot take this drug. It's a shame because I see so many success stories in these comments, I wish I could share in the relief."
