Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "The WORST side effects - one week later, still suffering from bone pain. The first night after IV - all side effects hit at once - fever, chills, nausea, dizziness, and the worst bone pain - it was even painful to take a deep breath or to yawn. I do not know how this passed FDA approval for humans. Totally unprepared for the horrendous side effects with no guarantee that it will be helpful for bone density. It was the worst experience, and I would totally advise against taking this medication. If there was an option to give less than '1,' I would do so."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I tried oral biphosphonate and experienced severe bone pain, nausea, and reflux. My doctor suggested Reclast. I had the infusion and within 6 hours experienced nausea and tiredness. I had taken the recommended Tylenol before and after. I went to bed and began to experience waves of severe rib pain from my back to front and vomiting. It was many times worse than childbirth. Luckily, I had an opiate pain reliever. That helped a lot. The feeling bad lasted for about 5 days, but the reflux stayed. Never again will I take this drug!!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Had the infusion - 15 minutes - 4 days ago. On the day, felt fine. The next day, thought I was dying, chills, fever, nausea, whole body/bones/joints extremely painful. Woke up every hour and had to drink water. Day 3, felt a lot better and managed to go to work. Day 4, I feel fine. Not sure how effective it will be, will have to have a bone scan in a year's time!"

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I was given my first Reclast infusion 5 weeks ago. What a nightmare, after being told I probably won’t have any side effects. I had it on a Wednesday, by Wednesday night, I had horrible nausea, my body aches were horrible, and I had a-fib. This lasted for about 5 days in which I couldn’t eat anything. I literally had to drag myself upstairs to sleep, my body felt so heavy. Fast forward a week out, the joint pain in my ankles started. I am an avid walker and can’t even walk without severe pain and limping. They finally called in steroids after numerous calls telling them my joint pain had not subsided. I’m very scared this won’t ever go away at this point. I will never have another infusion again."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "My doctor told me this medication provides quick and effective treatment over other options. She said I'll only experience flu-like symptoms for 2-3 days and to take Panadol to relieve these side effects. I was completely sold on the idea. After the infusion, I felt feverish and had a headache in the evening. Low-grade fever and headache lasted for about 4 days. In addition, I had nausea, poor appetite, lethargy, and heartburn from the 5th day after the injection. All the symptoms only cleared up after 10 days post-infusion. I swear this was the first and last injection."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I am on day seven post-Reclast infusion. I’m still experiencing flu-like symptoms. I woke up in the middle of the night after I got the infusion… I was so cold and chilled, nauseous, and my muscles and joints hurt everywhere. It also made me constipated. I will never take this awful drug ever again!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteolytic Bone Lesions of Multiple Myeloma "My mother was on this IV treatment for about 3 years when she was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The only side effect at the time was nausea. 3 years later, she is now experiencing osteonecrosis of the jaw due to this treatment. I guess my view on it is the treatment is it helped at the time to prevent any more lesions, but now the bone in her jaw is dying and causing lots of pain. She just had surgery on her jaw to remove the dead bone and hopefully heal."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "Cancelled Reclast infusion 3 months ago after seeing many negative and alarming reviews. PCP changed my decision by informing me of the high percentage of possible fractures. Had 1st Reclast infusion a few days ago. I took a couple of Tylenol and drank a bottle of water. After arriving at a clinic, my vitals were taken, I.V. line started, and the infusion given. I arrived and left in less than an hour. Going home, I drank more water and had a couple more Tylenol. During the next few hours, I did mental body scans looking for pain, muscle cramps, aching bones, chills, or nausea. I found nothing. And I've continued with no difficulties. No discomfort of any kind. I experienced no side effects of any kind from the Reclast infusion. I'm 70 years old and shall continue to ride horses and have no fear of falling. Hopefully, my next year dexascan will show improvement."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I'm a healthy 57-year-old female. I normally have a high tolerance to pain. I rarely get sick. No body aches or pains in the past. Had a 15-minute Reclast infusion 36 hours ago. During the infusion, I fell asleep. Driving home, I fell asleep at the wheel. My mother woke me and took over driving. I got home and went directly to sleep. I woke 6 hours later in head-to-toe excruciating pain in my bones and joints. Severe headache. Eyes swollen and painful. Hand so swollen can't bend fingers. Nausea. Vertigo. Sore throat. Now I can barely walk. I have developed blurry vision on top of everything else. Pain scale = 7 to 8. Shooting pains in shins periodically, as well as a burning sensation in my upper right arm. I also feel like something is tied tightly to both arms just above the wrists. My doctor just told me these are side effects and could last up to 10 days. I read comments here and saw reports of long-term pain. I'm very angry with my doctor. No mention of preparing for infusion or possible side effects. Can't take 10 days like this."

For Osteoporosis "I had my first Zometa infusion on 2/2/2018. Oncologist recommended this drug as I've had breast cancer twice. Bone density test found that I have osteopenia, and thus the drug was recommended. The next day after the infusion, I had severe nausea followed by bone and joint aches. My right eye would tear, and the skin around my eye looked red and purple, like I had a black eye. I did not have much of an appetite for a few days afterward. Today is day 5 after the infusion, and I'm still experiencing joint and bone aches. I'm also taking Arimidex as well, so this might be part of the reason why the medicine is causing me grief. I am prescribed for infusions every 6 months for a total of 3 years. I'll update again in 6 months to let everyone know the next experience."

For Osteoporosis "I had my first zoledronic infusion last March, and a few hours later, felt a bit chilled. Then, at 3 a.m., I woke with pain in every bone, with extreme pain in every past fracture site, almost unbearable in the newest fracture in my ribs. I also had nausea, loss of appetite, blurred vision, and temperature. Severe pain lasted almost 3 1/2 weeks. However, my quality of life has improved so much. For the previous 2 years, I was fracturing even cleaning my teeth-multiple rib, fingers, toes, sternum, and 7 back fractures-all taking up to 12 weeks to heal, then fracturing something within 2 weeks of getting moving again. Whilst I'm not looking forward to the side effects again next time, I will certainly take it again. I'm walking about again, haven't fractured anything since the infusion. Blurred vision still comes occasionally, but it's a small price to pay. Remind me I said this next March."

For Osteoporosis "I had an Aclasta infusion last Wednesday, had 3 days of aches and pains, and on Saturday suffered a mild stroke and spent 2 days in the hospital. There was no other reason for the stroke (no brain bleed, no vein tears in my neck, no high cholesterol). It didn't affect my speech but did affect my balance, numbness and weakness down my left side, and swaying when I walk. Severe headache and nausea. It started with a sore neck and headache in the center of my neck and has now spread along the whole back of my neck and starting to go up into my head. I would not recommend this to anyone."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 55 yrs old and had my first infusion a week ago. Later in the evening, the pain started, and I woke up during the night with the worst bone pain and headache I have ever had. I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, so I have a high pain tolerance. A week later, and the headaches, bone pain, and nausea continue. Hoping it ends soon. Will never take this medication again!"

For Osteoporosis "My wife had an infusion of Aclasta yesterday. Last night, she fainted and has felt awful all day: dizziness, nausea, etc. She was not told to be hydrated before the treatment. She was told that the symptoms would be like the flu. Needless to say, she will not take this medicine again. Hopefully, the symptoms will pass quickly and not return."

For Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "I have breast cancer metastasized to my bones. I had my first Zometa transfusion, which lasted 30 min., and thought all went well. I am naturally a big water drinker (64 oz/day norm) and drank more that day. However, I woke up the next day feeling severely depressed, nauseous, and without appetite. I made myself eat and drank lots of water, I was barely urinating. My thirst was unquenchable, and I had severe dry mouth. My temperature reached 102.4 in the afternoon, and I had to go to the ER. They put me on antibiotics right away, but I did not have any infection, as it turned out, it was all side effects! They gave me a liter of fluids, and I still went home with dry mouth."

For Osteoporosis "I recently had an infusion of Reclast. After reading these reviews, I was never told to drink tons of water and take Tylenol prior. I was told to drink 2 bottles of water afterward. I didn't drink very much that morning. By midnight, I started getting so sick. Pain in my upper back, I could breathe deep, chills, body aches, cold then sweating, nauseous. I wasn't this sick when I had COVID. I barely could eat or drink. By the next night, I felt so weak, I could barely stand. So, maybe if I was advised about the preparation, I could have avoided 2 days of hell. Kind of makes me mad. All these drugs may help osteoporosis, but the side effects, especially long term, are bad. Difficult as we get older, if you don't treat it, it could be a bad thing in the long run, and treating it also has negative side effects."

Zoledronic acid "Received Reclast intravenously. First, the registered nurse gave me Tylenol. After 30 minutes, she administered Reclast by IV, which took 15 minutes. I experienced flu-like symptoms during that evening: cough, muscle aches, and weakness. By morning, I was a little nauseous, and by afternoon, I was getting back to normal. The only lingering side effect was pain in my right shoulder and arm for about two days. I hope it prevents back fractures, which I had 3 compression fractures. Time will tell. I would suggest continuing to take Tylenol for a few days after."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 64 and in good health otherwise and fairly active. I had my treatment, which lasted around 1/2 hour around 2 p.m. I am also small (under 5 feet and around 106 pounds). I took an NSAID before the treatment —was not warned to stick to Tylenol. By evening, I felt so sick —horrible shaking chills, bad heartburn, muscle and bone ache, light nausea, etc. Started taking Tylenol instead. Today is Tuesday —4 days later and I am still not feeling great. I get low-level chills, sweats, and have a headache now. I guess I am just one of those people who doesn’t agree with the med. I keep hoping each day I wake up this will be the day I will feel okay, but has not happened so far. And, in this age of COVID, despite being triple vaxxed, I would guess I could have COVID except the timing with the infusion is too coincidental. I agreed to play tennis on Thursday, assuming 6 days later I would be okay, but ???? Hope it’s worth it. Will dread the infusion next year."

For Osteoporosis "I just had my second infusion. The first, a year ago, was bad. I stayed in bed for nearly six days, sick as if with the flu. Body pains, stomach pains, and a general sick feeling of extreme tiredness. After seven days, I had a couple of more days. Now, I just had my second infusion a year later. The first day was okay, but the second day knocked me down with pain and fever. The third day was okay, but I had body pains and extreme tiredness. This is still continuing, with some nausea, headaches, and tiredness, I just feel sick ten days later. Very unhappy. I don't know anything about its effectiveness. The yearly scan actually got worse. I was taking Prolia before for six years, and the scans were getting better, moved from -2.5 to -1.1. Now, one year on this medication, and I am at -2."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "66 y/o female with recent diagnosis of osteoporosis. Have had osteopenia for years but unable to take Fosamax, etc., due to reflux. Took first Reclast July 18. Everything was fine for the first 24 hours, then had chills, fatigue, nausea, achy muscles, headache, and dizziness. All symptoms resolved in 3 days except dizziness, which continued for almost 2 weeks. The flu-like symptoms were bearable, but the prolonged dizziness scared me. I still get dizzy if I turn my head a certain way and have to sleep sitting up. I hope it helps my bones, but I don’t think I will take this drug again."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Lesson learned. I didn't get instructions to drink water before my infusion, nor to skip the glass of wine with dinner that night. Day 2 (24 hours almost to the minute), and I feel like a truck ran me over. Headache, nausea, bone and muscle pain. I also had a hideous anxiety attack. Next one, I'll drink the water and take the Tylenol!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am a 71-year-old female who has resisted taking anything for my osteoporosis. But my lumbar number got to -4.4, and after trying other things to improve my numbers, I decided I needed something more. I had my infusion Monday morning with no prep. Felt fine until that evening. Then the diarrhea and cramping hit big time! Some nausea but no vomiting. My gut hurt, my teeth ached, my neck was stiff, and I couldn’t sleep for several nights. By the third day, I was feeling better. I don’t know if the prep would have helped, but I have several friends who had no issues with Reclast. Not looking forward to the next dose but will do with prep."

For Osteoporosis "My first infusion for osteoporosis was on a Monday. It went well, and I felt normal the rest of the day. I drank 5 glasses of water to remain hydrated. Tuesday morning I felt weak and tired, yet I still carried through the day. I walked 2 miles in the afternoon and another 2 miles in the evening. My feet felt achy, and my joints felt stiff all day. Every now and then, a quick shot of bone pain. I was exhausted by the evening and took a hot shower. I began feeling feverish, and my temp was 99.5, so I took 650 mg Tylenol and went to bed. I woke up at 3:30 am Wednesday, sweaty and used the restroom to void. I was feeling weak, nauseous, and faint. I have a history of vasovagal syncope and knew it was coming on. I laid flat on the floor supine. The episode passed, and I went back to bed. I woke up at 8:15 am and had another bout of nausea and feeling faint; again, laid flat on the floor, and it passed. Wednesday I felt tired and weak; yet continued to function."

For Osteoporosis "I was on Prolia shot for a couple of years and was great, but due to an insurance change they wouldn't approve it, so I was upset for the fact that they would rather put me through an IV infusion drug instead. Even though I asked many questions, I was told that the only complaints were achiness. OMG, I was fine 'til 2:30 am. I swear someone broke all my ribs on my right side. I couldn't breathe, move, then on day 2 still the same even with pain meds they ended up giving me, but now throwing up and nauseous, headache and stabbing joint pain. Today is day 3, still the ribs hurt but not as bad and still can't even touch them and waking up with being nauseous. I will never do/take this again ever."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "Had the Reclast infusion on November 16, 2019. Seemed fine after the infusion, but the next day woke up with every joint hurting. Couldn't hardly stay awake all day. Severe chills and then a 100.5 fever. Took Tylenol and alternated with Ibuprofen. Nauseated and no desire to eat. Had to force myself to drink. Day 3 started with rosy cheeks and still have them on day 4. Looks like a butterfly lupus rash. Headache for about 24 hours. Neck is still a little sore, but luckily the hips don't hurt as bad. Also had stomach pain and seem very bloated. I don't think I will do this again. Just hope no other symptoms come along as some of these posts talk about."
