For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I am taking this drug to help my bones because of the drug letrozole I am on. Have stage 1 breast cancer with radiation and partial mastectomy. Very small tumor removed. No lymph node involvement. This drug made me so sick. 102 fever, chills, and depression. When does the depression go away? Miserable."

For Osteoporosis "Took Reclast, which is the same thing. I will never take it again. I have never been so sick in all my life, my symptoms were off the charts, and I had a liver transplant. Literally, at one point, I didn’t think I was gonna make it through the night, that’s how bad it was. I had a fever of 103.9 and severe chills. I think I even blacked out at one point, and I couldn’t walk either, like some other people have said. I usually don't take any meds, I'm just fine. Maybe it was an allergic reaction, not sure, but I will never take it again."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I used this drug, zoledronic, 3 months ago, recommended by an endocrinologist for mild hypercalcemia due to vitamin D overdose! The first day was okay, but then I got 3 days of fever, malaise, tightness in the chest, and neck pain, followed by tachycardia for which I got medication. Thought I’d passed the side effects! In week 3, I got tooth pain and hypersensitivity, which continued to the present time! After a month, I got dizziness for about 6 weeks or so! Now it has been a month since I started having bone, joint, and muscle pain all over and stiffness in my fingers. Can’t walk normally because of plantar foot and finger joint pain, and my left ankle hurts a lot, my wrists got weak and have forearm pain! This is such a potent drug that will take you away from normal life for months! Never use this drug if it would be a substitute for that! I still pay for what I’ve done and think it’s going to last! Hope not to have its serious side effects! The drug is real junk!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Had Reclast infusion 2/16/2022. No instructions re drinking water or taking Tylenol. 2/25/22 taken to ER. Dizzy, dehydrated, fever, disoriented, exhausted. Stayed in hospital 3 weeks. Family didn’t understand what happened to me. Lots of tests. Almost died. Couldn’t eat. Lost 20 lbs. Slowly, some better, but still dizzy & disoriented almost 5 months later. Am 75 years old. Life messed up. Won’t take again. I put off taking this drug for 5 years. I had a hip fracture 4 months prior, so I thought no choice. Big mistake! Don’t do it. Listen to your intuition."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Age 65. I thought this was going to kill me. Received on Friday. On Saturday, I could not get out of bed. My right knee was huge. (I don't have knee issues). Every joint hurt so bad. Could not move my neck. I took 2 COVID tests on Sunday and Monday. Negative. No fever, but feverish. On Monday, I had to take my PJ shirt off from sweating. Called the doctor on Monday, and she prescribed steroids. I was down for almost 2 weeks. This was poison to me. Never again. Eat right and get exercise."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Has been a year since the first infusion. I had a high fever and chills the first night. The next morning, I passed out twice, flat on my back. Then a nosebleed started and lasted one day. Since the morning after, I have had 24/7 nose pain that is unbearable. My new doctor is trying to figure out what is causing it."

For Osteoporosis "I had my first infusion of Reclast 2 weeks ago. I had prepared by drinking a ton of water and Gatorade. I was okay for about 7 hours after when I suddenly started vomiting violently. That went on all night, along with severe bone pain, fever, and terrible weakness. The fever and bone pain lasted for four or five days. I probably should have gone to the ER, but I couldn't imagine getting dressed and being transported to the hospital in that condition. It's two weeks later now, and I still don't have much of an appetite. I'm eating light, as I feel better when I do that. It was a tough experience, but I definitely would do it again if it worked, because I have osteoporosis and Paget's disease, and the involvement in my skull could cause serious issues like blindness or deafness. On the upside, I lost some weight, LOL."

For Osteoporosis "I wanted Prolia, but insurance would not cover. I was familiar with zoledronic acid during the phase III studies. I knew about the 'flu-like' symptoms. I was NOT prepared for how bad I felt after this infusion. Infusion is painless, easy, and took about 1 hr in total. The headache started within 10 min and lasted 3 days. Fever of 102 with Tylenol. Shaking chills so bad I could not get to the bathroom and ended up peeing on the floor. Blurred vision, and my eyes hurt. Not sure if this will be effective until I have another DEXA. Plan for 4 days to recover."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "After reading all of the really negative comments, I was very anxious. However, I'm a 54-year-old female diagnosed with the spine of an 80-year-old. I weighed the pros and cons of potentially having a really nasty flu-like several days vs. a potentially shortened and pain-filled, miserable life and decided that Reclast was worth it. I have arthritis in my knees, hips, spine, etc., so I was anticipating a nasty interaction, but that was not the case. I had my infusion at 9:30 on a Thursday morning and felt okay for most of the day. I woke up around 2:00 a.m. on Friday with aches, pains, and chills much like the flu, though the last time I got the flu, it was MUCH worse. I ran a low-grade fever for a few hours, but by Friday afternoon, I was able to go to the grocery store. I took off-brand arthritis-strength acetaminophen throughout and drank as much water as I could. I highly recommend Reclast if you're able to rationally weigh the pros and cons of being sick compared to BROKEN."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "This drug, Reclast, is hideous! The side effects included fevers of 103, horrible body aches, diarrhea, neck pain, bone pain, swelling, and pain of hands and feet. Ten days out from my infusion and I am still feeling miserable. 'Take 2 APAP and you will be fine,' said my MD; what a crock! Every patient should be told the significant risk for hideous side effects that last much longer than 48 hours."

Zoledronic acid for Osteolytic Bone Lesions of Multiple Myeloma "I was placed on Zometa by my oncologist as a preventive medication to avoid bone lesions and fractures. I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma earlier in the year. I fortunately do not have bone issues at this point, however, my doctor thought it might help with prevention. After my first infusion, I developed severe chills, fever, and terrible calf pain 24 hours later. The fever, chills, and pain fortunately disappeared about a day or two later, but the fatigue lasted for days. Before my second monthly infusion, I drank more water. This did seem to help with avoiding chills and fever, but 24 hours later, I again developed bad calf pain and realized I had edema in my legs. A day later, it is better, but again, I have horrible fatigue and bloating. The side effects of this medicine are worse than those of my cancer meds. I will have to talk to my doctor, as I am not willing to do this every month unless I really have to."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I have had 3 bone fractures in a year, so I decide it's time for a dexa scan. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my arms and osteopenia in other parts. I was recommended Reclast infusion, but no prep instructions before I received it. I suggested to the medical provider to double the dose of saline infusion with Reclast, so that the drug is more diluted in my veins, but they told me it's not a practice. About 12 hours later, it hit me so hard that I was in bad shape for 3 days with dizziness, fever, and bone pain. It took me 2 weeks to be normal again. I was hoping that it might be worth it. And... it was. After 6 months, I went on a holiday to Europe, where I privately did another Dexa scan (in the US you can do it every 2 years), and the test showed an improvement of bone density of 35% - 50%! I am so excited! I also added more stretching and lifting exercises to my daily routine, and more walking. I definitely will continue with Reclast in the future and follow the pre-procedure advice that others mentioned."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am a 63-year-old woman. I had my first Reclast infusion 5 days ago. I had a fever, chills, and a major headache that lasted all night after the procedure. I was not told to drink water or to take Tylenol prior. Make sure you do both! The next day I felt okay. The next night I had chills, fever, racing heart, and Tylenol helped. I have throbbing discomfort in my hips and a feeling of being 'unwell.' I hope this subsides."

For Osteoporosis "Had an infusion on 2/13/2023. Felt okay until about 10 p.m. Had a fever, an extremely upset stomach, and severe pain in my knees. They were swollen, and I could not move. Was unable to walk, called a doctor, and she said it was not a side effect of the infusion and that I had bad knees per X-rays. Said if it didn't improve to call the next week and get a steroid shot. I was unable to walk without a walker for over three weeks and continue to have severe pain in my knees. I have sharp pains off and on in my joints. I will never have another infusion and hope it doesn't cause more issues. I am afraid to even go back to the RA doctor again."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I had my Reclast infusion on 10-19-21 and will say I was extremely nervous from all the negative reviews. However, my experience wasn’t bad at all. I’m on my 4th day after and feel great. I did, however, after 12 hours, develop fever, chills, body aches, headache, but they weren’t that bad. Very tolerable. The worst was the chills and severe night sweats on the second night. Felt a little tired and headache on the 3rd day, but great after. My Dexa scan was -2.4. I will get another bone density test and pray it’s improved. I will definitely do it again. Trust my doctors."

For Osteoporosis "I just had my second infusion. The first, a year ago, was bad. I stayed in bed for nearly six days, sick as if with the flu. Body pains, stomach pains, and a general sick feeling of extreme tiredness. After seven days, I had a couple of more days. Now, I just had my second infusion a year later. The first day was okay, but the second day knocked me down with pain and fever. The third day was okay, but I had body pains and extreme tiredness. This is still continuing, with some nausea, headaches, and tiredness, I just feel sick ten days later. Very unhappy. I don't know anything about its effectiveness. The yearly scan actually got worse. I was taking Prolia before for six years, and the scans were getting better, moved from -2.5 to -1.1. Now, one year on this medication, and I am at -2."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "On the afternoon of Friday the 24th, I received my first infusion. I have osteopenia, and I am a cancer survivor. I started taking acetaminophen, Gatorade, and water. When I woke up on Saturday, I had a lot of vertigo. The first 24 hours after the infusion, I only had a slight fever and warmth inside my body. After 24 hours, sporadic discomfort began in the bones, such as the knees and arms, moderate tiredness, and headache. On Sunday morning, the strong symptoms of chills began, pain in the bones of the legs, spine, ribs, and arms. I also had very real nightmares. The pains in the early hours of Sunday would go away and come back stronger. Then, I had a strong pain in the bones of my chest, as if they were opening my chest with their hands, for a few seconds, twice-a terrifying and very painful experience. The extreme tiredness continues, my eyes are a little red, very dry, and I have very deep circles under my eyes. Next year, I will not use this infusion again, it has been horrible pain. HORRIBLE."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I was terrified to get this due to the negative reviews, but after several positive reviews, I decided to do it. I am so glad I did. I drank tons of water the day before the infusion and over the next few days after. I also started extra strength Tylenol the night before and continued for several days after. The evening after the infusion, I started with a headache (back of head/neck) and fever. On the day after, fever was 101 and still headache, but the Tylenol really helped with both as well as putting a cold compress on the back of my head. Flushing with fluids really helped too. By day 3, I was feeling much better and by day 5, back to normal. So for a few days, it was no worse than the flu! It was totally worth it, as I just had a new bone scan, and after a year of Evenity shots and now the Reclast infusion, my bone density has increased 14%!"

For Osteoporosis "Had infusion in early February 2020. Suffered severe side effects, burning eyes, extreme joint and headache pain, high temperature, dead hands and feet continually. In early March 2020, it became difficult to breathe, this has continued without any respite. Tests have confirmed my lungs are clear and all vital signs are normal. My teeth have become loose and damaged. Doctors can offer me no help because they don't know what to do. My life has been blighted by this treatment, my only hope is that it eventually leaves my body."

"I’m 48, two years post breast cancer and bone density has already dropped 8.6% due to hormone suppressants. So oncologist recommended. Had 4 mg infusion. The infusion was fine. Took about 30 mins all up. Had it at 3 pm. Was perfectly fine until midnight when the pain hit, fevers, chills. Felt worse than the flu or when I had COVID twice. Body aches x 10. Headaches and rigors. Eye socket pain. Jaw pain. Was like that for 2 days, then very slowly started to settle. Pain was mostly in my ribs/torso and fingers for first 36 hrs, then moved to my hips and legs. Had cramping calves one night. Had shooting/stabbing pains across my ribs to lower back and hips. Have been taking paracetamol and codeine for pain pretty regularly and it still hurt a lot! Definitely kept my fluids up. Not eating much. Needed the week off work."

For Osteoporosis "My first infusion for osteoporosis was on a Monday. It went well, and I felt normal the rest of the day. I drank 5 glasses of water to remain hydrated. Tuesday morning I felt weak and tired, yet I still carried through the day. I walked 2 miles in the afternoon and another 2 miles in the evening. My feet felt achy, and my joints felt stiff all day. Every now and then, a quick shot of bone pain. I was exhausted by the evening and took a hot shower. I began feeling feverish, and my temp was 99.5, so I took 650 mg Tylenol and went to bed. I woke up at 3:30 am Wednesday, sweaty and used the restroom to void. I was feeling weak, nauseous, and faint. I have a history of vasovagal syncope and knew it was coming on. I laid flat on the floor supine. The episode passed, and I went back to bed. I woke up at 8:15 am and had another bout of nausea and feeling faint; again, laid flat on the floor, and it passed. Wednesday I felt tired and weak; yet continued to function."
