Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "Horrible. Within 48 hours of infusion, I developed chills, fever 101.4, subsequent joint pain, and then swelling in the carpometacarpal joint. Right knee started with pain, and within 24 hours, I had a complete knee effusion with inability to bear weight. Knee was swollen twice its size."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I had the Reclast infusion on April 4th, and 12 hours later I had severe chills (shaking so bad I couldn't close my mouth to take my temp) and fever. Lasted for 6 hours. Then I was sick to my stomach for the next day with severe pain in my legs (hard to get up from a chair) and my hands (hurt to write). Then I started with a 'cold' sinus/bronchial infection, which sent me to urgent care for an inhaler and cough medicine. Back to the doctor after 5 days for antibiotics, and I'm still sick one month later. Now jaw pain on the left side, and my teeth hurt. I will NEVER take Reclast EVER again. I hope you won't either!!!"

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I had my first infusion of Reclast on a Wednesday afternoon. By 3 AM Thursday morning, I had fever, chills, and extreme body aches. Nauseated and a headache. Pretty extreme, took Tylenol, got a little relief. The next 24-48 hours have been pretty terrible, still slowly recovering. Will not do this infusion ever again. I was told by the nurses, 'Well, you might feel a little achy,' that wasn’t even close to how bad I felt."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "I had the infusion early Friday afternoon. Within 3 hours, I had a very intense headache. By midnight, the headache was unbearable, and I also experienced deep pain, chills, dizziness, and chest pain that felt like a cement block between the ribs. On Saturday, all these issues persisted, along with a fever. On Sunday, I still had the same symptoms and also developed numbness in my legs, feet, arms, and hands. I also noticed loads of small, tiny spots on my palms and fingers. On Monday and Tuesday, the symptoms persisted, and I was unable to get out of bed. Concerned about all these issues, I called my doctor, who prescribed a 6-day cycle of steroids to try to flush out the medication. While I am aware that no one can predict how a body will react to any medication, simply saying that you may feel flu-like symptoms understates what I have been going through. I have never regretted a medical decision more than this one! Please research and know that this has caused havoc on my body, and who knows if I'll ever be the same again."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Follow up on initial Reclast first taken 3/2022. I was never informed of any prep to do beforehand, I suffered violent, severe side effects for 8 days immediately after the Reclast infusion. I was so ill I was unable to call 911 and get myself to a hospital. I was completely incapacitated with severe bone pain, rolling head-to-toe cramps, extreme flu-like symptoms, chills, fevers, and a blinding headache that lasted for 8 days. Now, one year after, I am still experiencing severe and extreme bone pain that many times causes me to be unable to lift my arms and has impacted my quality of life. Additionally, I suffered another compression fracture with zero exertion in June of 2022. I also require several implants and refuse to potentially destroy my jaw. Reclast side effects outweigh any possible benefits. I will be 57 years old this year, and prior to 2022 had no knowledge I had osteoporosis. I pray I have no further issues!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Had my first Reclast IV on Thursday morning. After a couple of hours, started hurting all over and feeling terrible. By evening, started running a fever of 100 - 101, had chills, nausea, pain all over, and couldn't get out of bed until Saturday evening. Took Tylenol every 4 hours. On Sunday, still did not feel a lot better, but fever was getting better. Hope this gets better really soon."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I had the Reclast infusion on Thursday, and first my vein collapsed and fluid built under my skin. Perhaps a poor choice of veins. I am 68. My arm hurt the rest of that day, of course. Then the next two days, I have had the 'flu'-like symptoms (fever, muscle aches and pains, weakness). I am hoping this subsides soon. I have things to do, places to go, people to see. Ha, the jury is out as to whether or not I would take it again."

Zoledronic acid for Prevention of Osteoporosis "Had the Reclast infusion on November 16, 2019. Seemed fine after the infusion, but the next day woke up with every joint hurting. Couldn't hardly stay awake all day. Severe chills and then a 100.5 fever. Took Tylenol and alternated with Ibuprofen. Nauseated and no desire to eat. Had to force myself to drink. Day 3 started with rosy cheeks and still have them on day 4. Looks like a butterfly lupus rash. Headache for about 24 hours. Neck is still a little sore, but luckily the hips don't hurt as bad. Also had stomach pain and seem very bloated. I don't think I will do this again. Just hope no other symptoms come along as some of these posts talk about."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I had my first infusion for osteoporosis on Monday morning. I followed all directions with hydration and paracetamol and was fine during the day. Everything changed at 2 a.m. I woke up with a fever and in excruciating pain with intense stomach cramps and began vomiting. I then experienced a tightening of my rib cage as if something was crushing it. This made it hard to breathe. I continued to experience vomiting for the next 2 days despite taking anti-nausea meds. I could not even keep fluids down and could not sleep. I also continued to have back and side pain. On day 3, I started to feel like I’d had a shot of adrenaline and was highly agitated, paranoid, and started experiencing heart palpitations. On day 4, I experienced sore, severe jaw pain, especially near my bottom lower molars, and my lymph nodes were swollen. On day 5, I was extremely breathless and had chest pain and was sent to a cardiologist. My heart is okay, luckily... It’s now day 7, and the symptoms continue. Never again!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "The WORST side effects - one week later, still suffering from bone pain. The first night after IV - all side effects hit at once - fever, chills, nausea, dizziness, and the worst bone pain - it was even painful to take a deep breath or to yawn. I do not know how this passed FDA approval for humans. Totally unprepared for the horrendous side effects with no guarantee that it will be helpful for bone density. It was the worst experience, and I would totally advise against taking this medication. If there was an option to give less than '1,' I would do so."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "My first IV treatment was given on a Friday morning. By that night, I was running a fever of 103. I had 4 heavy blankets piled on me. I took Tylenol and Ibuprofen, but nothing brought my fever down below 101. I was shaking to my bones. Then, I started feeling pain in every bone of my body. The pain was worst in my back and shoulders. Even on my fourth day, my shoulders and back are still very painful. All I was told about Reclast was to drink a lot of water and take Tylenol as needed. I even told my husband that he might have to bring me to the emergency room because I was deathly ill. I wish I would have read these comments before I was given this therapy. I felt like every bone in my body was being attacked by this drug. Thankfully, I'm done for a year."

The next day, thought I was dying, chills, fever, nausea, whole body/bones/joints extremely painful. Woke up every hour and had to drink water. Day 3, felt a lot better and managed to go to work. Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 41, with Crohn's disease causing my lack of vitamin absorption. I had my monthly Entyvio infusion, and right after my first Reclast infusion just yesterday. I was just fine until about 5 hours after when I started having diarrhea. It later turned into severe watery diarrhea shooting out into my ostomy, chills, sweating, fever, aches, and weakness. I was told it may happen but was hoping not to me. If this helps me, a few days of this is worth it, and I will do it again. Like in Harry Potter, 'growing bones is a nasty business!' Lol"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 58 with osteoporosis. Knowing my mother experienced severe gastro issues with Fosamax, my doctor recommended Reclast. I was not told to drink water prior, so I only had a small bottle of water with me. Within 6 hours, I had COVID-like symptoms with a 101.4 fever and very achy muscles and bones. I also had indigestion, and my chest felt like an elephant was on it. I took Advil every 4-6 hours, which helped. This lasted a good 50+ hours and then turned into fatigue for another 1-2 days. Hopefully, this will have been worth it."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I received a Reclast infusion on 1/10/2019. Within 6 hours post-infusion, I started to have elbow pain, and within 12 hours post-infusion, pretty deep bone pain in the sternum, along with flu symptoms. Fevers spiked to 102 at times for over 48 hours. All joints were painful. On days 3 and 4 post-infusion, severe pain in ankles and feet - unable to get out of bed independently, but once I was moving around, things got easier. While the side effects may sound bad (and they were at times), if this increases bone density, then I have no problem sacrificing a week or two of side effects."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 65 and consider myself strong and overall healthy. I will never have this infusion again. My side effects included vomiting, diarrhea, fever, severe neck pain, joint pain including thumbs and knees, and my nose hurt. On my oncologist's suggestion, I had a COVID test, and it came back negative for COVID or the flu. Now, after 17 days, I am still experiencing flu-like symptoms, late-day fatigue, and just an overall blah feeling. I had a breast cancer lumpectomy in August and 4 weeks of radiation. I do not see any benefit of this drug and will try something else to get the calcium in my bones as the side effects are absolutely horrible."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "At age 54, my DEXA scan came back with moderate to severe osteoporosis. I tried Fosamax, but it caused bad side effects. I tried Reclast. During the first infusion, I had no side effects at all. I did drink a lot of water two days prior and took Tylenol. My DEXA scan improved somewhat. So, I had a second infusion. I prepped for two days, but this time I had a fever and some body aches, which lasted only 24 hours. My DEXA scan improved even more but not quite enough. So, I had a third infusion the other day. No side effects at all. I didn't have time to prep for two days because of the timing of the infusion. But for the day before and the day of the infusion, I drank a lot of water and had no problems. Each infusion lasted 25 minutes. The doctor figures this third dose will move me out of the osteoporosis range to osteopenia. I'm so thankful I didn't have any of the side effects I read about."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 54 years old, a breast cancer survivor, and Reclast knocked me on my butt. Had it Friday afternoon, and by the evening, I had a 103°F fever, chills, and the worst bone pain I have ever experienced. It is now Thursday of the following week, and I'm waking to swollen joints and can barely walk or get ready for work. The fatigue is insane. For Prevention of Osteoporosis "Wednesday, I had a zoledronic acid infusion. That night, I had a hundred and two fever and chills, and everything ached from my bones to my muscles. By Friday morning, I was having seizures on the floor of my kitchen. I woke up in time to watch my body flopping around like a fish! It soon stopped, and I got up off the floor and walked to my husband's condo, which is three steps away. I told him I didn't feel very well and immediately did a face-plant in his dining room! I hate this stuff, my jaw is locked and my eyes are fuzzy off and on! Time will tell what other damage will have been done..."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "My doctor told me this medication provides quick and effective treatment over other options. She said I'll only experience flu-like symptoms for 2-3 days and to take Panadol to relieve these side effects. I was completely sold on the idea. After the infusion, I felt feverish and had a headache in the evening. Low-grade fever and headache lasted for about 4 days. In addition, I had nausea, poor appetite, lethargy, and heartburn from the 5th day after the injection. All the symptoms only cleared up after 10 days post-infusion. I swear this was the first and last injection."

Zoledronic acid for Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "My oncologist, for some reason, changed my medication from Exgiva to this medication. I have been having the worst side effects ever. I have bone pain, stomach pain, fever, and chills. I am on the 5th day, and I’m still experiencing chills and fever. I would never take this medication again. I just wonder how long this is going to last. If I ever get better."
