Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 54 years old, a breast cancer survivor, and Reclast knocked me on my butt. Had it Friday afternoon, and by the evening, I had a 103°F fever, chills, and the worst bone pain I have ever experienced. It is now Thursday of the following week, and I'm waking to swollen joints and can barely walk or get ready for work. The fatigue is insane. I'm praying this helps my bone density because I am second-guessing if I can do this again."

Zoledronic acid for Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "My oncologist, for some reason, changed my medication from Exgiva to this medication. I have been having the worst side effects ever. I have bone pain, stomach pain, fever, and chills. I am on the 5th day, and I’m still experiencing chills and fever. I would never take this medication again. I just wonder how long this is going to last. If I ever get better."

For Osteoporosis "I had my first Zometa infusion on 2/2/2018. Oncologist recommended this drug as I've had breast cancer twice. Bone density test found that I have osteopenia, and thus the drug was recommended. The next day after the infusion, I had severe nausea followed by bone and joint aches. My right eye would tear, and the skin around my eye looked red and purple, like I had a black eye. I did not have much of an appetite for a few days afterward. Today is day 5 after the infusion, and I'm still experiencing joint and bone aches. I'm also taking Arimidex as well, so this might be part of the reason why the medicine is causing me grief. I am prescribed for infusions every 6 months for a total of 3 years. I'll update again in 6 months to let everyone know the next experience."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I used this drug, zoledronic, 3 months ago, recommended by an endocrinologist for mild hypercalcemia due to vitamin D overdose! The first day was okay, but then I got 3 days of fever, malaise, tightness in the chest, and neck pain, followed by tachycardia for which I got medication. Thought I’d passed the side effects! In week 3, I got tooth pain and hypersensitivity, which continued to the present time! After a month, I got dizziness for about 6 weeks or so! Now it has been a month since I started having bone, joint, and muscle pain all over and stiffness in my fingers. Can’t walk normally because of plantar foot and finger joint pain, and my left ankle hurts a lot, my wrists got weak and have forearm pain! This is such a potent drug that will take you away from normal life for months! Never use this drug if it would be a substitute for that! I still pay for what I’ve done and think it’s going to last! Hope not to have its serious side effects! The drug is real junk!"

For Osteoporosis "I had my first infusion of Reclast 2 weeks ago. I had prepared by drinking a ton of water and Gatorade. I was okay for about 7 hours after when I suddenly started vomiting violently. That went on all night, along with severe bone pain, fever, and terrible weakness. The fever and bone pain lasted for four or five days. I probably should have gone to the ER, but I couldn't imagine getting dressed and being transported to the hospital in that condition. It's two weeks later now, and I still don't have much of an appetite. I'm eating light, as I feel better when I do that. It was a tough experience, but I definitely would do it again if it worked, because I have osteoporosis and Paget's disease, and the involvement in my skull could cause serious issues like blindness or deafness. On the upside, I lost some weight, LOL."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "Had my injection at the end of October 2019. That evening, I had severe chills, headache, bone pain, and vomiting with no appetite. Symptoms lasted about 4 days, with bone pain a little better. It’s been a month, I still have bone pain, very weak, and tired. Hate the way I feel, not sure if I’m going to do it again. I also had blurred vision, with my eyelids becoming so dry and itching severely."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I am 55 yrs old and had my first infusion a week ago. Later in the evening, the pain started, and I woke up during the night with the worst bone pain and headache I have ever had. I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, so I have a high pain tolerance. A week later, and the headaches, bone pain, and nausea continue. Hoping it ends soon. Will never take this medication again!"

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I had an Aclasta infusion in July this year with flu-like side effects of muscle and bone aches and pains, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating for about 4 days. After that, I felt fine. More recently, I find I am consistently sore every morning, with bone pain over most of my body, but particularly in the sites of old injuries. The pain and discomfort abate with movement, so I can live with it. I’m hoping the Aclasta has good results."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "This drug, Reclast, is hideous! The side effects included fevers of 103, horrible body aches, diarrhea, neck pain, bone pain, swelling, and pain of hands and feet. Ten days out from my infusion and I am still feeling miserable. 'Take 2 APAP and you will be fine,' said my MD; what a crock! Every patient should be told the significant risk for hideous side effects that last much longer than 48 hours."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "I have had 3 bone fractures in a year, so I decide it's time for a dexa scan. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my arms and osteopenia in other parts. I was recommended Reclast infusion, but no prep instructions before I received it. I suggested to the medical provider to double the dose of saline infusion with Reclast, so that the drug is more diluted in my veins, but they told me it's not a practice. About 12 hours later, it hit me so hard that I was in bad shape for 3 days with dizziness, fever, and bone pain. It took me 2 weeks to be normal again. I was hoping that it might be worth it. And... it was. After 6 months, I went on a holiday to Europe, where I privately did another Dexa scan (in the US you can do it every 2 years), and the test showed an improvement of bone density of 35% - 50%! I am so excited! I also added more stretching and lifting exercises to my daily routine, and more walking. I definitely will continue with Reclast in the future and follow the pre-procedure advice that others mentioned."

Zoledronic acid for Osteoporosis "Lesson learned. I didn't get instructions to drink water before my infusion, nor to skip the glass of wine with dinner that night. Day 2 (24 hours almost to the minute), and I feel like a truck ran me over. Headache, nausea, bone and muscle pain. I also had a hideous anxiety attack. Next one, I'll drink the water and take the Tylenol!"

For Osteoporosis "I will be receiving my third, and hopefully my last, infusion of zoledronic Monday, Aug 16th. After my first infusion in 2019, I began having pain in my joints. Later, I began vomiting, and essentially lived in the bathroom for the next 4 days. I couldn't keep down water. The bone pain was horrible, and I was so weak from the continual vomiting. After four days, I began to feel 'normal' again. In 2020, I had my 2nd infusion. This time I got a prescription for anti-nausea medication (ondansetron), and took it three times a day for the first 4 days, along with an Advil/Tylenol combo every 8 hours for the next week. This routine changed the side effects to be minimal. Tomorrow, I will follow this same routine, and hopefully my next bone scan will show improved numbers."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "On the afternoon of Friday the 24th, I received my first infusion. I have osteopenia, and I am a cancer survivor. I started taking acetaminophen, Gatorade, and water. When I woke up on Saturday, I had a lot of vertigo. The first 24 hours after the infusion, I only had a slight fever and warmth inside my body. After 24 hours, sporadic discomfort began in the bones, such as the knees and arms, moderate tiredness, and headache. On Sunday morning, the strong symptoms of chills began, pain in the bones of the legs, spine, ribs, and arms. I also had very real nightmares. The pains in the early hours of Sunday would go away and come back stronger. Then, I had a strong pain in the bones of my chest, as if they were opening my chest with their hands, for a few seconds, twice-a terrifying and very painful experience. The extreme tiredness continues, my eyes are a little red, very dry, and I have very deep circles under my eyes. Next year, I will not use this infusion again, it has been horrible pain. HORRIBLE."
