For Insomnia "This was an awful, awful drug for me. I was prescribed 50 mg trazodone as needed for insomnia. My nose became completely stopped up about 10 minutes after taking it, and it felt like my soft palate was swollen too. I had to use Afrin just so I could breathe. Then I got this really creepy feeling in the right side of my chest, really heavy, like I couldn't quite catch my breath. I got extremely sleepy, so I went straight to bed and lay there trying not to panic about the weird feeling in my chest. I fell asleep quickly and woke up the next morning feeling very nauseated and sick. I also had diarrhea. It took two days to feel better. Thinking maybe it was just too high of a dosage, I waited three days and took half a tablet. Big mistake. Same stuffy nose, same creepy feeling, but I slept through the night. I wasn't as nauseated this time, but the stuffy nose drove me crazy. This medicine is going into the trashcan."

For Anxiety "This helped me sleep for one night. After that, it no longer worked. I felt so sick the next day. My doctor told me to give it a little bit longer to maybe work. I’ve never had a huge amount of problems sleeping, but I’ve been having anxiety lately, so I thought I would continue to give it a try. By the fifth night on it, I slept one very restless hour and felt so bad the next day, it increased my anxiety, gave me blurry vision, heart palpitations, along with very bad nausea. Haven’t eaten for a week! This is a very toxic, icky drug."

For Insomnia "My doctor prescribed this for me for insomnia. I took it for 5 days, half of a 50 mg pill. I never have a problem falling asleep but tend to wake up during the night. I may have slept a little more soundly, but I had some nightmares on it. By the fourth day, I was slightly nauseous and had diarrhea. My neck muscles became very tight, and I had a headache and a strange clicking in my ears. I also had a disconcerting feeling in the right side of my chest that was a strange palpitation. I also felt groggy during the day. I will not take this again and do not recommend it."

For Insomnia "I started taking trazodone 9 years ago. It really worked when I first started using it. I started off with 50 mg. Over the years, my tolerance increased. Now my doctor has me on 500 mg. It no longer helps me sleep through the night. On a good night, I’m up every two hours, and on a bad night, I just don’t sleep. I never wake up feeling rested. Just hungover and nauseous. I feel like I have a bad hangover. I used to be a dedicated athlete, now I’m sick when I get out of bed in the morning. Most days I can’t train because I haven’t had proper sleep. I’m done with trazodone."

For Fibromyalgia "I've been taking trazodone for the past year to help me sleep. I get anxious when I go to bed because I'm afraid I won't sleep well, and I have to because I also have fibromyalgia. I'm taking 150 mg now. If I take 200 mg, I can barely wake up and am hungover all day. I take 50 mg about 30 minutes before bed and the other 100 mg right before. I do this because it sometimes makes me feel weird and nauseous if I take it all at once. It does nothing for my pain. Just helps me sleep and relaxes me at night. It's good for now."

For Insomnia "I've been on Trazodone (100 mg) for insomnia for about 6-8 months now. Sometimes it works great and others not so much. Some nights, within 15 minutes of taking it, I can barely hold my eyes open and almost feel drunk. Others, it doesn't affect me at all. I would also say that I don't really get deep sleep while taking it. I've also had a few strange issues, at least four times, I've woken up in the middle of the night from extreme nausea. Then, when I've stood up to go to the bathroom, I've passed out. I think it was because my blood pressure was low, which I've seen is a side effect. However, I'm concerned with long-term effects from the drug. Weight gain is a big concern of mine as well. Considering stopping my use."

For Insomnia "I have suffered with insomnia for about a year. My doctor gave me this medication 5 months ago, and I finally decided to try it. Haven't slept in 4 days. I was completely exhausted. I only took one 50 mg tablet at bedtime. Within 10 minutes, I was extremely dizzy, the room started spinning, and I was very nauseated. It was ten times worse than any hangover. I woke up still in the same condition, but now there is an added severe headache and horrible dry mouth. 24 hours later, you would think I'd feel better, but no! Still have the hangover, and I feel like complete crap! Will this ever end? I poured 29 out of 30 pills in the bottle, added bleach, and disposed of them. I will never suggest this medication to anyone or take it again myself. Worst side effects ever!"

For Insomnia "I was put on this medication as an alternative to Ativan (OTC, melatonin, and Valerian root failed). I didn't realize initially that it was an antidepressant since my doctor said it was a sleeping pill. I'm also on Lexapro and Wellbutrin, and I'm very sensitive to antidepressants. I was started at 50 mg, which did nothing. 100 mg next for about a week, which left me feeling awful in the mornings. She then increased it to 200 mg, and it was an awful experience. I took it at 8 pm and fell asleep around 2 am. I woke up at 7 am for work feeling awful. I sat through two meetings feeling dazed, dizzy, nauseated, and out of it. All that evening and the next day, I had flu-like symptoms and couldn't stand without feeling like I would faint. Overall, horrible."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I take it for sleep quality. It's not because it makes me tired, but trazodone (always taken in conjunction with paroxetine) makes me feel rested when I wake up. Before I started taking trazodone, I used to feel tired, lethargic, and a bit queasy no matter how long I slept."

For Insomnia "Worst medicine I’ve taken yet! I was prescribed this (1-3 pills as needed; 50 mg a piece) around 2 weeks ago for insomnia due to bipolar disorder. Yes, it does make you fall asleep fast, but the morning after is so rough. It gives you a hangover feeling the next morning. It made me dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous, etc.! I just thought that this was because it’s my first day and it’ll get better once I get used to it. It never got better-just worse! Right now, I’m unemployed, but I can’t imagine having to go to work in the morning after taking this the night before. Last night, I ended up taking two trazodone pills because I was so stressed with an upcoming job interview I could not go to sleep. I’m not sure if it’s the anxiety right now, but even two pills couldn't keep me asleep! This morning, my mind seems very foggy and dull, extremely dizzy, heavy eyes. I can’t wait to go back to my doctor and tell her how awful this is!"

For Insomnia "First, I took Ambien for insomnia. Never got into REM sleep on that one and never felt rested. Plus, did all sorts of weird things while on it. I do not recommend Ambien. Ever! Been using trazodone for years now. Much less superior to Ambien in falling asleep quickly. I have to take 200 mg to fall asleep, and it takes at least 30 minutes to work. While I’m waiting for it to kick in, I have horrible restless leg syndrome. At about 20 minutes, I feel the need to eat something. Must have a snack or will get nauseous. Sleep after that but could wake up to use the bathroom and won’t fall back asleep unless I take more trazodone. Very, very difficult to wake up in the morning (understandably) and have very stiff muscles, sore muscles, very stiff joints when I try to get up. Can only wipe out the groggy feeling if I take caffeine."

For Insomnia "I started on 100 mg a couple months ago. I wanted to start off slow, but my psych said no because I suffer from bipolar (BP). She said lower doses can cause agitation in BP patients. I now take 150 mg. It's a good med. Puts me to sleep in 45 minutes and keeps me asleep. Maybe a slight grogginess in the morning, but that's it. It also helps tons with daytime anxiety. I do get nauseous right after taking it and am forced to eat a little something. I don't like eating at night, but I'm very thankful for its benefits. Also, if you feel drunk when you lie down in bed, it means your dose needs to be higher. Don't be afraid of it in higher doses. Just have to figure out the right dosage for you."

For Insomnia "So I'm bipolar and have several other anxieties. My psych prescribed me trazodone to ease me into sleeping... Well, today is the 2nd night I've taken it, and I'm one step away from going to the ER! I took it at 10, and it's almost 5 am now, and I have yet to sleep. I had numbness in my body almost like when your foot falls asleep, but throughout my whole body, my nose got stuffed up, I'm nauseous, my heart was racing! I started to get a panic attack like no tomorrow. Now I have a huge headache, and my eyes hurt! I do not recommend this medication at all."

For Major Depressive Disorder "My psychiatrist prescribed Trazodone for a combination of issues: depression, mood swings, insomnia, and anxiety. I took it for 1.5 years, and overall I'm positive about it. I started with 100 mg per day, and the first few weeks were horrible as I experienced severe dizziness and nausea; however, it did help with the insomnia right away. After a month, the side effects subsided, and I started feeling better; I was calmer, slept well, and was not as anxious anymore. While it really helped with the insomnia, it knocked me out for 9 hours, and I could not get out of bed at all in the morning if I took the pills too late the evening before. Two months ago, my doctor and I decided I could stop taking it. For 1 month, I went back to 50 mg and then stopped completely. This again was a horrible period: all issues that I had before taking it came back, and I had terrible headaches for a couple of weeks. I'm not sleeping as well anymore as with the medication, but otherwise feeling fine now."

For Insomnia "Been on Ambien for 10 years, and it is not as effective any longer. Dr. prescribed Trazodone. I took 100 mg and nothing. I took 150 mg and again nothing. The third night I took 200, and it made me feel drugged. I also had a very dry mouth and a stuffy nose. Waves of nausea and a hot body temperature all night. I did not sleep but felt out of it all night. The next day I am still foggy and have no motivation. Will not take this again."

For Insomnia "Never had a migraine, tried trazodone for the first time yesterday, and the headache started shortly after, and it hasn’t disappeared for 23 hours now. I woke up feeling insanely hungover, was nauseous, lost my coordination, and my head was pounding. Around 12 pm, I started getting delirious and had to leave my class. Took pain medication, slept for 4 hours, spent the rest of the day with the blinds down, and the pain has gone down to a strong headache, but I still can’t really study or move normally. I just hope it’s going to be gone when I wake up tomorrow. I won’t be taking this again, my worst hangovers felt better than this. Didn’t really help with sleep either :’)"

For Sedation "This is my 2nd bad experience with this drug. I was prescribed trazodone 10+ years ago and chalked up my bad experience to my doctor prescribing too much. I agreed to try it again under a new doctor because a lot can change in 10 years, apparently, I was wrong. I was given 50 mg. I took one pill, felt the slight drowsiness after about 30 mins, but not enough to put me to sleep. It took about an hour or two for me to fall asleep. When I woke up in the morning, I had a terrible migraine with sensitivity to light and nausea that lasted the entire day and night. I feel weak and am barely able to do much moving. I am able to eat, but the nausea won’t go away. Excedrin was able to get rid of the headache. I took Benadryl in hopes that it would ease the nausea, but it has not. My only hope is that it will go away by morning if I ever fall asleep. I will NOT be taking this med again. I would much rather deal with possible weight gain from Seroquel than to feel like this for even one day."

For Depression "It worked well on low dosage, but after my doctor increased the dosage to 200 mg at night, I feel worse. I have told my doctor that I have now lost complete appetite, nausea, throwing up, and massive weight loss. She stopped the drug and switched it with Wellbutrin the same day, with .05 Rivotril and another antidepressant."

For Insomnia "I took the 50 mg dose, and within the first couple of hours, felt sick to my stomach. During the night, I felt like I was half asleep but never fully out. I had a hard time getting up the next day. I felt light-headed and kept yawning constantly. I felt like I was in a fog that didn't break until about noon. Later in the day, I had a headache. I wouldn't recommend this particular drug."

For Insomnia "Took trazodone for the first time last night at 200 mg because nothing else worked, such as Ambien and Xanax. It was absolutely miserable, my mouth was extremely dry, my nose was stuffed up, and I had nausea. I couldn't even get out of bed the next day and missed work. It's 5 pm, and I am still out of it and groggy. I am having to cancel all plans tonight."

For Anxiety "Avoid this drug at all costs. I have a panic disorder, which is quite severe. One of the worst symptoms is agoraphobia, which was bad before I took trazodone. Now I do not leave the house whatsoever. Firstly, does this help your condition? In my case, no, it made it far more severe and has set me back months, possibly years. Are there side effects? Yes, with a capital Y. You may end up with a heartbeat that feels like your heart is about to burst out of your chest for 4-5 hours immediately after taking it, so forget sleep. The minutest of movements, and your heart continues to pound rapidly. You will feel weak, lightheaded, dizzy pretty much all the time. I was nauseous, had extreme photosensitivity, seizures, a break from reality for two days. I was doing and saying things I do not remember, unfortunately. The NHS provided very little help. The worst thing is it made me-and I still am-suicidal. Avoid this awful drug."

For Insomnia "Absolutely horrible medication. Literally felt like poison. I took it, and I felt like it was going to be the end of me, the room was spinning, my heart was beating so fast. I felt “brain zaps” (the feeling of electricity pulsing through your brain). I also felt major anxiety and nausea. Do not take this medication!"

For Insomnia "I just started trazodone due to insomnia. I took trazodone for a year, had to come off after horrible side effects, then took Zquil for a year and had to stop due to extreme nausea. Then my mom recommended amitriptyline, it worked for 7 years for her. I took 10 mg for about a month. Now I'm scared to take it because it makes my body feel extremely heavy on some days. Like so heavy I feel like I'm gonna stop breathing. The doctor did tests, the test results came back fine. I think I need to try something else. This whole insomnia and needing to function at work thing is really difficult. :("

For Insomnia "I have a fair amount of 'problems.' Insomnia is one. I have MDD, GAD, PTSD. I take Lexapro for depression and 1 mg twice a day of Xanax. (You'd think I'd sleep from THAT)... NO... I also have SEVERE back/neck issues, so I also take Percocet 10s 4x a day... STILL NO SLEEP. I tried them all... Ambien... no... Remeron... no. Seroquel yes, but hated the weight gain and could not function in the morning, so my psych doctor said trazodone has been around forever, no effects... BS. It did NOT work AT ALL... was taking 50 mg. So the doctor said to take 100 mg... NOTHING but horrible headaches, severe nausea if I didn't eat enough, and once I finally managed to get 2-3 hrs of sleep, it was NOT restful. The doctor ALSO didn't tell me that they're actually an antidepressant and take 4-6 weeks for maximum results."

For Insomnia "Side effects of trazodone = dry mouth, pee frequently, sleep 11:30-9:30 pm, wake up feeling drowsy/exhausted, intensive dreams, hands shaking, nausea, migraines once in a while, moody, still depressed and cry."
