For Insomnia "This will be my second night on 150 mg trazodone for insomnia and MDD that my doctor prescribed after amitriptyline, fluoxetine, citalopram, quetiapine, and venlafaxine didn't work for me. Venlafaxine was the best of the lot as it kept my anxiety away for some time, but it just gave me a nasty dose of the insomnia. The doctor thought trazodone may work for both of my conditions, so, as I said, this is my second night, it hasn't helped my insomnia one little bit. Am I to wait a few more days for the sleepiness to kick in? Other comments are really appreciated."

For Insomnia "I have been on trazodone for years to help with my anxiety and insomnia. I've had to increase my dosage because at first it wasn't working very well, and my doctor recommended I increase my dosage or started taking 1 pill and a half of another. This medicine works for me 85% of the time, there are still many sleepless nights and anxiety outbreaks, but it does help. I stopped taking it for a few days, and my anxiety levels were through the roof, so I guess this means it helps."

For Insomnia "I take 150 mg of trazodone for sleep, anxiety, and depression. It helps with the anxiety and depression, but not sleep, I wake up a lot or can't sleep after 3 hours of sleep. I have been on it almost a year."

For Insomnia "After a bad accident, I have been having awful insomnia. My doctor recommended trazodone for my insomnia. He also insisted that it may help me with my severe depression. So I was prescribed trazodone 50 mg. Despite positive reviews on this sleep aid, I had a horrible experience on trazodone. I only took trazodone for one night and stopped altogether with trazodone. I don't personally recommend this. It was literally the worst trip ever. I felt like I was in a horror film with Freddy Krueger. I could not sleep. My head was spinning out of control. I am so surprised I did not shit in my pants. I was so exhausted and paranoid that night. I felt worse the next day, my heart and head were racing, and I was irritable. I switched over to melatonin."

For Insomnia "3/10 to help me sleep, but had bad nightmares, broken sleep, felt drugged, lifeless, and no motivation when I couldn't sleep any longer. Length of broken, vivid, nightmare-filled sleep approx 5 hrs. Throwing this Trazodone away. Days of use, only 3."

For Sedation "I was given trazodone by mistake in the hospital after hysterectomy. I normally take clonazepam for sleep and asked for that but was given trazodone instead. One of the worst nights of my life. I was anxious and unable to sleep, and whenever I closed my eyes, I had visions of gory dismembered body parts that would not go away (like a vision of hell or something, crazy). It went on all night long, never experienced that before. I only took it that one night in the hospital (didn't find out 'til later it was the wrong drug). Evil, evil drug. At least for me."

For Insomnia "It is VERY difficult to stop Trazodone as there are significant withdrawal symptoms: such as dizziness, stomach issues, and sleep issues. Trazodone does not have warnings about withdrawal symptoms. Under the guidance of my physician, I have had to lower the dosage so gradually. This is difficult to do with such a small round pill. I had been taking 75 mg, and this month of withdrawal has been difficult. Take Trazodone at your own risk."

For Insomnia "I started taking Trazodone in 1999. I was under a tremendous amount of stress and anxiety due to marriage problems and was unable to sleep. I started out taking 50 mg. Over the years, I've had to increase my dosage due to ineffectiveness. I am now taking 150 mg, I'm no longer married but in a fabulous relationship, and it's not helping me any longer. It takes forever to fall asleep, if at all. Most nights I toss and turn and am awake more than asleep. I don't want to increase my dosage any longer, and I don't want to take any other sleep aid medication. I'm 64, 5' tall, and weigh 120 lbs. I'm getting off cold turkey, as bad as that may be. I hope my body will adjust and that I'll be able to sleep naturally at some point. I like to sleep, but Trazodone just isn't helping me anymore."

For Depression "I noticed that a higher percentage of people taking trazodone are also taking other medication. I'm on my 21st day of trazodone tonight for depression and insomnia. I started on 50 mg, then 1 week later went up to 100 mg. Not a lot of people on here are mentioning that this medication takes 4 to 6 weeks to kick in. My sleep is all over the place. I have had many sleepless nights, but the past few nights I'm getting 6 hours on and off. I'm going to wait and see how the next few days go, then speak to my psychiatrist."

For Insomnia "I’m on trazodone for insomnia. I also take Topamax and Lyrica before bedtime, and none of them put me to sleep. My doctor put me on this so I could stop using Tylenol pm (or just the pm), as that’s the only sleep aid that actually makes me sleep and keeps me asleep. This drug lets me sleep sometimes, but the sleep is broken. It’s not restful, and I wake up a lot earlier. That’s another reason my doctor wanted me on it-she wanted me to start waking up earlier (I used to wake up around 12:30 or 1 pm because I don’t have anything to do before then, and that’s what my body likes). So with Tylenol pm, or even just the pm version, I would sleep from 3 or 4 am to 12 or 1 pm the next day and feel rested 60% of the time and be able to take naps during the day if I didn’t feel rested. Now I’m sleeping from 3 or 4 am (even though I’m taking this medicine at 10 pm) to 10 am and feeling rested 30% of the time, but I can’t sleep to nap. I definitely don’t like it for sleep."

For Insomnia "Was prescribed 50 mg trazodone to sleep, as my ADHD medication Elvanse and dexamphetamine cause insomnia. The 50 mg dose had no effect, but since taking 100 mg I have had no sleep problems at all."
