For Insomnia "I've been having problems sleeping due to anxiety and depression and was prescribed this. The first night/day was awful, I was extremely groggy and had a headache all day. I also had a problem with my eyes being sore, I'm not taking any more."

For Insomnia "Took 50 mg trazodone last night for sleep. I couldn’t get to sleep for over two hours. Woke up four hours later with a horrible headache. Had to take a Xanax and two Aleve and do meditation to make it a little better. As a result, was three hours late to work. It’s nighttime now, and my head still has a low throb. Probably won’t try it again."

For Insomnia "I was put on 50 mg trazodone for insomnia, but it was not working well, so my doctor put it up to 100 mg. It really makes me sleep, but sometimes (most times) I wake up with a splitting headache and lethargic for the day. So I am going to stop using it and really concentrate on a routine to help me get to sleep."

For Insomnia "I was put on this in the psych ward for insomnia and depression. It seemed to help at first, but then I started to get very bad side effects like rashes, diarrhea, headaches, worsened anxiety, depression, and just so much more. It really does not help me at all, besides making me sleep for seriously 12 hours a day. I will wake up at 6:00 pm sometimes because it knocks me out that hard, which makes me more depressed because I missed half of the day. They upped the mg to 100 mg even though I said it makes me feel bad just to see if that would 'help.' Well, let me say it hasn't helped. My anxiety and OCD are so bad now. I am always unmotivated and depressed. Everyone I met in the hospital who took it also had weird side effects from this medication. I would try it, and if you start to feel terrible, immediately tell your doctor you are not interested anymore and be stern about it."

For Insomnia "I have been taking 200 mg of trazodone since December 10, 2011, at night for sleep. It takes me one and a half to two hours after taking it to fall asleep, and I wake back up between 1 and 3 a.m. I will be seeing my doctor in a week to see what he says about going to a higher dosage at night. Ambien 10 mg only worked for me a short time, and Lunesta 3 mg never worked for me. Lunesta just gave me a bad headache all day."

For Headache "I was taking trazodone for sleep, 50 mg. After a couple of months, it wasn't helping anymore. My doctor switched me to 100 mg, and after about a week, I started to have bad headaches. So, I went back to 50 mg, and the headaches stopped for a couple of days. Then, they started up again. I stopped taking the drug, and it's been three days now, the headaches have not gone away. I am hoping that in another day or so they will be gone, but right now I am suffering with them."

For Insomnia "Trazodone gives nasty neck and headaches to some, and I am one who cannot tolerate trazodone. I had taken it for two different days with the exact same results. It helped to fall asleep, but only a few hours in do the headaches and neck pain wake me up."

For Depression "I took 25 mg of Trazodone for the first time less than 24 hours ago, and wow, this sucks. Honestly, it feels like a rough hangover the next day. Within an hour of taking it before bed, my muscles were twitching and my heart rate was around 90 bpm just laying in bed. I woke up groggy, dizzy, and nauseous, and my muscles felt all weak and messed up - I fell back in bed just standing up. Throughout the day, the twitches have gone away, but the headache is rough and the nausea is that constant almost-going-to-throw-up nausea. I was prescribed to take Trazodone along with 200 mg Bupropion XR, so I’m not sure how much of this could be drug interactions or minor serotonin syndrome. Anyways, I can’t find an antidepressant that works, but I would recommend starting elsewhere and taking Trazodone as a last resort."

For Sedation "I took this at 50 mg to offset activating side effects of my antidepressant. 50 worked a while without much issue, but then was increased to 100 mg after a few days because it stopped working. Took a break for a while. Last night tried to take 100 mg of trazodone again since switching to bupropion, which causes major issues with insomnia (sleeping 1-2 hours at most or not at all). Bupropion gave me no headaches, but when I added on trazodone 100 last night, wow, this is one of the worst headaches I have ever experienced. Similar to when I had viral meningitis. Whole head is throbbing, and I can’t move my head without making it worse. And I have suffered from chronic migraine for 10+ years, so I know what a bad headache feels like. This is right on the level of headaches that I have gone to the ER for."

For Anxiety "50 mgs trazodone for 12 nights. Mirtazapine impacted liver readings. Positive: kick-start weight loss, as weight loss stalled. Lost 2.5 kgs in 12 days. Increased energy. Started to impact exercise as no sleep. Negative: pins/needles in hands; no sleep 1st night - racing heart; severe pain in liver area; headaches; severe diarrhea; itchy palms/skin; manic elation; sweating. Doc said wean myself off; back to Mirtazapine: Day 1. Took 1/2 trazodone/1/2 mirtazapine. Trouble getting to sleep. Still diarrhea, reducing. Day 2. 1/4 trazodone/1/2 mirtazapine. To sleep almost immediately. Block of 5 hours; got up to toilet, back to bed, fell back to sleep - not happened for 2 weeks! Slept through till 7:30, felt groggy in morning. 50 mins nap PM. Day 2. No trazodone just 1/4 mirtazapine. Some discomfort in liver area. Day 5. On mirtazapine fully. Sleep improving: 3-5 hours to 5-7 hours. No discomfort in liver area. Day 6. Felt groggy in morning for a couple of days. Sleep now regularly more than 8 hours."

For Insomnia "Trazodone has been super helpful for me for anxiety-related insomnia. I did have to bump up a bit at first from 50 to 75 mg to find a dose that worked for me, but I have been taking 75 mg for over two weeks now and haven’t needed to increase since. I will occasionally have a slight headache when I wake up, but it goes away quickly. Very grateful to this medication for allowing me to relax enough to sleep, as the lack of sleep was increasing my anxiety and becoming a vicious cycle."

For Anxiety "I have been taking 50 mg Trazodone for 5 weeks now for anxiety. It does make me fall asleep rather suddenly, however, the sleep is not restful. Initially, I thought it was because I had just started taking it, however, it has not improved. About 3 to 4 weeks in, I started having a tight, painful jaw. (I have experienced the same with Nuzak.) I also wake up with a mild headache, but this does ease in about an hour later. I don't feel it has helped with my anxiety. It seems to have made me feel a bit depressed and moody. I pushed through for a few weeks, but the side effects have not even eased, and there is not even slight improvement with anxiety. I have decided to stop taking it and hopefully will not have bad withdrawal symptoms, seeing it was a lower dosage."

For Sedation "I was taking trazodone for 8 years for insomnia. After a few years, it became ineffective. I kept taking it because I can't take any other sleeping pills. I didn't know trazodone is also an antidepressant. I can't take what I call regular antidepressants. I stopped trazodone 9 months ago. I have been having headaches, brain fog, and anxiety for 9 months now. It's called discontinuation syndrome. I call it a living nightmare. I am worried it will never go away."

For Insomnia "Absolutely horrible. Took one at 2 o'clock in the morning from my mother to help me sleep. It knocked me out, but I remember 15 minutes after I took it, I started to feel very odd, my eyes would not relax. I woke up in the morning with extremely red, bloodshot eyes and an extremely horrible, painful headache, and I felt weak and dizzy. I have been laying in bed all day, and my headache is still not gone, and it is 10:39 PM. I do not recommend this medication."
