For Fibromyalgia "I was previously diagnosed with lupus after a few miscarriages. Now, for the past 16 years, I have been treated for fibromyalgia. I've been on Ultram for 15 years. I take 1 to 1 and 1/2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours, 3 times a day. It has enabled me to stay working full-time outside the home with very few side effects. I can always tell if I forget to take them, as I start feeling the joint pain really badly and have no energy. It has been an absolute lifesaver for me."

For Restless Legs Syndrome "I have been taking tramadol for over 11 years for RLS, and while I think it works pretty well for my legs, I feel I have to take more than prescribed to get the same amount of relief that I did when I began the medication. I have not told my doctor for fear that she will take me off the medicine. The withdrawal symptoms are horrendous. My legs are 10 times worse when I am coming off tramadol. I get involuntary spasms in both my arms and legs and am extremely moody. It is near impossible for me to sleep without the tramadol. I am not trying to scare anyone away from taking it because I know it has worked wonders for a lot of other people."

For Back Pain "I have been using Tramadol for back pain due to spinal fusion. I found that when I am on a higher dose, I feel OK, but once I am under 200 mg a day, it doesn't work for me. Unfortunately, this medicine has to be weaned from, so I have to go through the lower dosages to be able to try another medicine."

For Chronic Pain "I've been living with chronic pain now for over 5 years due to DJD, Rheumatoid Arthritis, 5 herniated discs in my neck, 2 in my lumbar spine. I started seeing a pain management neurologist, and between trigger point injections, prednisone as needed, tramadol 200mg-400mg a day if needed, I was finally able to function again. There weren't any side effects that occurred while I took it, and I found this medication extremely effective. It never removed my pain completely but did allow me to function again. As anyone with chronic conditions, we must learn to live with some pain. There's no natural or man-made opiate in tramadol, but it works similarly as a drug that contains an opiate. I was on this drug on and off for almost 3 years and had no addiction issues."

For Chronic Pain "After taking 15 mg oxycodone for 3 months for my back pain, Dr. decided to put me on 100 mg of tramadol every 6-8 hours as needed. After taking this medicine for only a week, I find it does nothing for my pain, not even a little. I find taking this medicine for pain is a waste of money, as well as whatever it does to your liver. Whoever approved this drug for pain has never had to take it for pain. Absolutely worthless."

For Chronic Pain "This medication is about as strong as aspirin or ibuprofen. If you take them longer than a few weeks, you will also end up with withdrawal worse than any other narcotic pain reliever. It can make you sick to your stomach, and if you're prescribed too much, it can cause severe seizures. If you've never been on any other opiate pain relievers, it may work for a bit, but I'd use extreme caution in doing so."

For Pain "I've been taking Ultram for nerve pain related to a herniated and degenerative disc. I tried opioid narcotics with no relief. I could barely walk around and could not sit. Within 45 minutes, my pain dropped from an 8/10 to a 3/10. After a couple of days, my pain was 1/10. The only side effect I experienced was slight dry mouth. It works great!!"

For Pain "Years ago, I used Ultram for migraines, and one day took more than 2 in a smaller period of time and had a seizure. Scariest thing ever. Thankfully, I had a great neurologist who knew it was this medication, and I stopped immediately. Never had another. The medicine was decent, though, while I had taken it, and it didn’t make me feel like I was taking a prescription pain reliever. (If anything, it has the feeling of too much caffeine.) Just be careful on dosage."

For Chronic Pain "It's a great alternative for people with stomach issues, as it causes no GI upset. You do have to eat, it can make you nauseous if you don't, but I can't tolerate antidepressants or strong opiates, so this does the trick for moderate chronic pain. Not a good choice for severe pain or post-surgery."

For Pain "I had back surgery in 02, and I have severe leg and foot pain ever since. Since that time, I have been on Ultram and am pain-free. I know they just classified it as a narcotic, where I live, a year ago. It's a shame because I've been on it for 6 years and have never felt better. It is addictive because when I go for longer than 24 hours without it, I have withdrawals, but I've been on it for 6 years, so it is to be expected. I highly recommend this drug."

For Fibromyalgia "I have had fibromyalgia for 17 years, just diagnosed this year. I was prescribed Ultram for worst pain days. It almost completely takes the pain away with 100 mg. There are little to no side effects. The first couple of times I took it, I felt a little drowsy. I am very happy that my rheumatologist recommended this medication. To get some pain relief and still feel like myself is all I could have hoped for! I would recommend it."

For Chronic Pain "I started Ultram a little over a month ago and am impressed with the lack of side effects. I also noticed it helps with my moods, maybe having less pain just makes me happier. I've had spinal injections and am using Ultram to hold me over until I get my next set. I do take it every 4-6 hours."

For Chronic Pain "I was referred to a ‘pain clinic’ for extreme low back/sciatica pain. I have had hydrocodone for years, which I have always used sparingly. (Due to Florida restrictions on opioids, my family doctor was hesitant to give me a narcotic prescription as in the past.) I was prescribed 50 mg (2) every 4 hours. I would rate this medicine as 0 for severe pain. I turned to Extra Strength Aleve, which worked better but only slightly diminished my pain. For me, Tramadol is useless."

For Pain "For me, Ultram/Tramadol has saved my back, along with a muscle relaxer. I have whole spinal arthritis. I take as prescribed so I can stay on top of the pain. I'm going into my 2nd month, and for me, the two are a Godsend. Thank you."

For Chronic Pain "This did not do anything helpful for me. I tried it for 2 weeks as an opiate substitute after intramedullary nailing. (This surgery always has a very painful and long recovery.) I was given this by my surgeon because it was supposed to be less addictive. After two weeks, I decided to taper off it. This produced horrid withdrawals. They were far different and more severe than stopping the opioids, which I was over in one day. Don't take this med! If a doctor tells you it won't cause withdrawals, don't believe it. Opioids worked during my surgical recovery and were no problem to taper off then quit."

For Pain "Took severe pain away. Hand and neck arthritis. Take with 2 Tylenol or ibuprofen every other dose for best relief. Brand name Ultram 50 mg every 5-6 hours if needed. For me, took most pain away! Better than Vicodin and not sure why, but so happy I have it. Cons: occasional nausea and big-time constipation-take with laxative or Colace. I started the pill slowly-two 25 mg per day over a period of a week and worked up to 50 3 times per day over 3 weeks."

For Pain "I take Ultram for degenerative changes in the lower lumbar spine (spinal stenosis, dry disc) and for neck pain from auto accidents and sterno and acromioclavicular joint pain from open-heart surgery. It is the only thing I have used that works and gives me 8 hours of sleep. I only take it when the pain gets intolerable and renders sleep impossible. Have no withdrawal, and the only side effect is constipation. I highly recommend Tramadol. It helped me more than anything else."

For Pain "This medication worked very well to ease my ankle pain. However, it left me feeling a little forgetful after taking it for a few days. It also made me very drowsy. But I was not in the severe pain that I had been. The most negative reaction was when I stopped taking the medication. The following day, I felt nauseous, shaky, dizzy, and had cold sweats. The withdrawal symptoms were very unpleasant."

For Fibromyalgia "I was taking Ultram ER 100 mg once a day along with Lyrica with no real relief. My doctor upped my Ultram to 200 mg once a day, and I feel much better. I can't believe the difference the dosage makes. Of course, being time-release, it does take a while to kick in, but I found I can work a longer day sometimes."

For Pain "I have been taking Ultram (200 mg a day) for several years now. I found that it does take the top off the pain down but doesn't give me great relief. I am finding its effectiveness less and less and will be trying to wean off of it, but withdrawal symptoms are pretty bad. Please be well aware of the dependency issue."

For Pain "I have severe scar tissue and adhesions from multiple surgeries, and the pain was intense. It is in my pelvic area. I feel like I'm having a bad cycle every day, and walking intensifies the pain. This is an everyday feeling. My doctor tried me on Ultram, and it has been a godsend. I take it three times a day. Without it, it would be hard to walk, so I give it a 10. Thank you."

For Pain "I just started taking this medication. It works wonders. I have been in chronic pain for over 3 years, and needless to say, constant pain puts me in a terrible mood. This medication not only relieves the pain in my joints but also helps me psychologically. I'm not sure if it is the medicine or the fact that I am pain-free for the first time in years."

For Fibromyalgia "Fourteen years on Ultram, initially prescribed for migraine relief. As a painkiller, it has never worked for me. However, there is a little rider attached to the medicine information when I pick it up from the pharmacy about how it may be used for purposes other than pain relief. For me, it keeps my joints fluid (I now have arthritis as well as fibromyalgia), and most definitely acts as a mood elevator. No high or buzz, but a feeling of stability. Because I metabolize ALL medicines at a high rate, it takes more 50 mg tablets than the FDA recommends to get relief. Wears off fast, but one dose in the morning seems to keep me stable. Also, I cannot sleep without it. So many, many different reactions to the same medicine."

For Pain "I just started this med yesterday for osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. After reading the other comments, my experience is pretty normal. I'm itching like crazy, had a bad night-no rest, nausea, and mild headache. With all those side effects, it appears to have knocked off the edge of the pain. I will continue using it for a few days if I can handle the itching. I want to give it some time because I cannot use narcotics. I end up in the hospital with dehydration from vomiting when I use any narcotics."

For Fibromyalgia "I have been using Ultram (tramadol) for over 8 years for my fibromyalgia pain. I started on it for a shoulder and neck injury, and it worked so great that I have been able to stay on it. In those 8 years, I have actually lowered my dose by less than half and get through a day on 75 mg. It keeps me working. I cannot take it late in the day or it keeps me from sleeping well. If you are in pain, on moderate to bad days, I suggest you try it in moderate levels. It will not help for headaches for me. Stopping taking it will produce withdrawal symptoms after some time. Be prepared to go through a miserable, cranky day. Good luck, and feel well."
