For Pain "Very few side effects. A little fatigue now and then, but you get that with fibromyalgia anyway. It has greatly improved my quality of life and attitude towards life in general. I'm a much happier person having limited pain now."

"I have suffered with fatigue and joint and muscle pain and restless leg syndrome for ten years. Used ibuprofen, which only helped a small bit. I finally said enough is enough and went to the doctor and told them to give me something for the pain. I felt like I was losing my mind, and I just said I know I have fibromyalgia, and I can't take it anymore. She gave me antidepressants, a muscle relaxer, and Tramadol. I only felt doped up with the antidepressant and the muscle relaxer, but the Tramadol was awesome. I am now able to work pain-free and exercise. I have lost 40 lbs since I started taking it, and I feel more normal. I don't think I can deal with the pain again. I take the 50 mg tab once every 5 to 6 hours."

For Pain "I have had 2 back surgeries 3 months apart from each other. My neurosurgeon told me my spinal canal is too narrow for a fusion and there is nothing more to be done. In years gone by, before some doctors really believed I had a pain problem. I tried Ultram, it did NOTHING, but my body was used to 200 mg of morphine and 120 mg of oxycodone. I since have found a wonderful, caring pain doctor. I take 4 x 30 mg of oxycodone and 19 mg of methadone 2 times daily, and I can walk, very sluggish and am tired, but I can walk."

For Pain "Had surgery in 01, then I re-herniated my lumbar discs. I use a TENS unit, pain patch, and lots of aspirin. My doctor prescribed Ultram 50 mg 2x a day or as needed. Haven't taken it every day because I get sluggish at work. Works great for the pain, but makes me VERY tired. Also, I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep."

For Pain "I took Ultram for over a year after herniating a lumbar disc. Apart from fatigue, a little dizziness, and the usual constipation that seems to accompany most pain medicines, I had no major side effects. It did not eliminate the pain but decreased it enough for me to function for the most part (sit, drive, sleep). However, over time, my system became accustomed to the drug, and it did not work for me anymore. Thankfully, I had minimal withdrawal symptoms. I have since tried Neurontin (Gabapentin), Nortriptyline, and Topamax for chronic pain, with mixed results and significantly worse side effects. Still no long-term solution for the pain."

For Chronic Pain "I have been on Tramadol/Ultram for 13 years. It works on my pain 80% of the time. However, when I added Tizanidine (a muscle relaxer - not to be taken with Tramadol at the same time), I have been mostly pain-free. I take Tizanidine at night for back pain. It causes drowsiness, so do not take during the day. I take 100 mg Tramadol 3x a day for nerve pain. It works PERFECTLY for me. Unfortunately, I was forced to taper off and get off Tramadol to try Nortriptyline, which only worked 60% and made me so fatigued I was bed-bound. Now I am tapering off Nortriptyline and going to whatever plan B my neurologist has for me. My honest opinion - Tramadol works for moderate pain - not severe pain. I like it because it keeps me comfortable and does not have the loopy side effect of Hydrocodone. I can function well at least until 5 or 6 p.m. before the nerve pain hits. This, to me, is a win."
