For Osteoporosis "Took forteo for 1 year to boost bone density into osteopenia. Lilly co-pay card covered cost for 3 months, then needed to pay 3,500 a month for 3 months until my deductible was met. Injections were fairly easy; side effects of leg cramps, nausea, some palpitations but didn't feel they were severe enough to outweigh the expected benefits. Recent dexa showed a DECREASE of bone density by around 5% in each hip...eliminated 5 years of progress I'd made with other approaches. On top of that, my TSH (thyroid) is now elevated so don't know if that's connected or not. Not happy with this drug or my doc."

For Osteoporosis "I completed a 2 year course of Forteo. No side effects. My T score improved 13%, I was disappointed, thought it would improve 100%!! But, that was successful treatment per doctor. Now have to take an anti-resorptive prescription to slow bone loss. Tried Fosamax 1 x week for 6 weeks and have bone pain in my hands and feet."

For Osteoporosis "I took Forteo for three months and experienced numerous side effects, which worsened over time. Even though I stopped taking the drug a month ago, I still suffer from severe neck pain, back pain, and bursitis, which have left me bedridden. Despite the manufacturer's claim that the drug is eliminated from the body within two hours, my experience as a medical professional with over 26 years of experience tells me otherwise. I have also lost 15 pounds and suffer from incessant migraines, but the most troubling symptom is numbness in my feet, which makes walking or moving around hazardous. I hope that in a few more months, these symptoms will subside. I pray to God for a quick recovery."

For Osteoporosis "I am on forteo for two months. I am not sure if my T score has improved since I haven't taken a BD test yet. However, I have experience many side effects with forteo: 5 min after injection (which I hate), I start feeling tremendous pain at the lowe part of my spine. I found out that I can aleviate this pain by moving around (walking fast) for 15 min. I also discovered a very bad interaction with alcohol. Even a small glass of sangria during dinner, had as a result the development of an extreme pain after injection and inability to move for 45 min. Recently, I have also experienced a similar problem when I was on azythromycin for some mouth infection....Other symptoms I have 2 h after injection are flu-kind symptoms, shivering, insomnia"

For Osteoporosis "I began taking Forteo December 2 2014 after having neck surgery to remove two discs One week after the surgery I returned for an Xray and the lower part of the plate had come loose from my vertebrate. I was asked if I had fallen, hit my head or any type of accident. I told him I hadn't, then he told me the surgery was a failure. I was put on Forteo 2-1/2 months after my surgery. From the beginning I began having side effects. I've had dizziness resulting in stumbling and falls and bone pain. I opted to stay on it. I have taken a two week break and my symptoms disappeared. I'm debating going back on it."

For Osteoporosis "I have been injecting Forteo for two full weeks. My back pain is demished significantly and my stamina has improved expeditiously! I feel like there is hope for my future today. I am 63 female with one severe L1 fracture and a new fracture at L8. My scoliosis is the double curved kind and I have two bulges protruding at the twist. One is pushing on my spinal column. My doctor found me a $50.00 co-pay card for this drug but the normal copay this month was $487.00. I can say that I actually feel younger and thankful for the diminished pain and gained stamina. I do feel grateful."

For Osteoporosis "I took Forteo for 14 months. I had osteopenia of the spine and osteoporosis in my hips. A bone scan showed I had an 11 percent increase in bone density of the spine but a 7 percent decrease in my hips. I am 59 years old and have experienced major bone loss due to having a total hysterectomy and taking prednisone long-term for respiratory problems. Otherwise, I had no other negative side effects."

For Osteoporosis "I had back surgery in 2016. In August of 2016, I was put on Forteo. In Feb. 2017, I had back surgery again. When I came home from the hospital, I got very ill. 4 trips to the hospital later, it was found I had acute chronic pancreatitis with calcification in the duct. Long story short, I had been on Forteo for 7 months and that is the only drug that had changed that I was taking. I have been to two GI doctors who say they don't know what to make of it. I do not fit in any case study they had ever seen. I truly believe the forteo is the reason. As of now, my pancreas is fully calcified and I am a full blown diabetic. I have lost over 60 lbs the 1st 35 being in 30 days. I rue the day I ever took the first shot of forteo!!"

For Osteoporosis "I finished my 21 month Forteo injection program 6 months ago. I was disappointed to learn of only a 10% to 14% improvement in my bones. I was not told so but I believed I would see at least at 50% improvement. "

For Osteoporosis "On Forteo for 7 weeks now. Saw a Rheumologist who did a bone density told me that I was at high risk especially for wrist fracture due to low bone density. Said my spine looked ok. Said I needed Forteo for 2 years the osteoporosis was so bad. Since starting Forteo I feel extreme fatigue all the time. Also feel muscle weakness, can't keep up with my light exercise routine. Also have had multiple aches and pains in my joints and long bones of arms and legs. Feel deep in the bone, not muscle. Pain seems to migrate from one bone or joint to the other since starting Forteo. Redness, and bruising at injection site. Worst symptom fatigue. May have to stop Forteo"

For Osteoporosis "I am female, age 58 years. My bone density for my spine was -3.5 when I started Forteo injections in April 2014. After 6 months my spine improved to -3.0. I just completed by 11th month on Forteo and will have another bone density test at 18 months. I have not experienced any side effects from this medication to date except for some minor back ache the first two weeks of starting the injections, which I am not sure were actually attributed to the medication."

For Osteoporosis "I have been taking Forteo for ten months and I just had a bone density test. My bd improved an average of 7 percent overall. I am very pleased, since I had a bad fall 3 months after starting and had no fractures. That is a great accomplishment since last year I had 3 spontaneous fractures. I fractured my tibia while sleeping! But the negative part of treatment (aside from injecting yourself every day for 2 years), was the severe side effects. I was very, very motivated or else I would not have persevered. For the first 6 weeks I had simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea every night. I still experience nausea and general feelings of being unwell for 4-5 hours after each dose."

For Osteoporosis "After 4 months I developed swelling and aching in my fingers, hands, wrist, and ankles. Within 1 month of starting forteo I started experiencing hair loss. It's been over a week since I discontinued the injections but my hands still hurt and my ankles are still swollen. Considering there is no way to determine if the benefits outweigh the risks, I don't feel that it is the right drug for me."

For Osteoporosis "My husband has been on Forteo after having 7 spinal compression fractures. Since he started the injections 2 months ago, he has had increasing shortness of breath. Any exertion causes severely labored breathing. This is a dramatic change as he did not have this symptom before. I'm very worried it is the Forteo!"

For Osteoporosis "55 year old male. I've always led a vigorous lifestyle of skiing, biking, kayaking. In the last several years I have had 4 broken ribs, and then earlier this year I broke my right clavicle and then left femur from a fall from a latter. I don't know if its working or not ( No follow up screening yet). My initial T score was -3.9 in the lower lumbar region with various values to -2.9. I have experienced bruising at the injection site, skeletal pain, various stomach issues including constipation, diarrhea, but the latest and worse side affect is a ridged pain in my stomach wall."

For Osteoporosis "I took Forteo every day for two years to restore bone loss due to post menopausal symptoms. I self-injected in my stomach as it was less painful/easier. Bone density scans after one year showed significant improvement and I continued for a second year. Bone density had returned to normal and has remained normal for 3 years. I also supplemented with Vitamin D3 and Calcium tablets with Vitamin K2. I qualified for a program thru the manufacturer to help pay for the drug as my insurance would not cover the cost. It reduced my cost to $50/month. Otherwise, I could never have afforded the medication and would have probably suffered significant damage to my skeleton. I am very thankful to Forteo for helping me with the costs."

For Osteoporosis "I took Forteo for the maximum length of time with no major side effects at the time. However, I have just been diagnosed with calcification of the aortic valve. I have to wonder if the drug contributed to this condition. I would be interested in learning if anyone else has elevated levels of calcium in the blood as well as other parts of the body or if any studies have been done on this."

Other medicines did not help and after I fell this past summer and broke my left hip the doctor suggested Forteo advising me that it was the best and that studies have shown that after treatment is finished bone will be back to normal. For Osteoporosis "I'm a 56 year old female. I started on Forteo March 2016 with 3 vertebral fractures. My t-score was -5.6. According to my Endocrinologist I have had a 40 percent improvement in 12 months. My scan in March 2017 showed t-score -4.0. I have also been taking vitamin D3, hormone patches for menopause but most interestingly also vitamin K2 (one tablet a day since starting Forteo) I urge everyone to talk to their doctor and also google the research done on K2. In my opinion maybe Forteo and K2 work well in conjunction with each other. My Endocrinologist said that if my gains were that significant in the next 12 months I will be in the osteopenia range. If I could I would like to stay on Forteo for 3 years but not sure about government regulations"
