Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I've been using Bactrim DS for the past 2 months now, and it has definitely cleared up my skin. I plan on using it for another 4 months, and then switching to another antibiotic if need be so I don't build immunity to it."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "This medication did work for me, but I was on it for about 3-4 months before my skin actually cleared up. Don't give up hope if you see no change in the first couple of months. I went from having moderate, hormonal acne mostly around the chin and jaw (but also would appear on other parts of the face) to having a perfectly clear and glowing complexion. I am also taking the OCP (and had been on it prior to starting on Bactrim)."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I took Bactrim for three years straight in my early twenties. I’ve physically never felt better than then. I don’t know if it was also treating other unknown conditions, but it was amazing for me. My skin specifically was clear, smooth, and all redness went away. Zero known side effects."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "While I was only on Bactrim for one week, I feel like it was an experience to share! In this week, I did notice a difference in my skin, and it was probably the best my face has ever looked. That being said, I developed allergy symptoms pretty quickly but did not make the connection right away. High fever and nausea for a few days before a full-body rash on the 8th day. I was taking two pills a day. Always watch for symptoms and consult the doctor. I would still recommend this medication to others as it appeared VERY promising at clearing up my moderate hormonal acne. If I could go on it again, I would."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I went into an acute respiratory failure after taking Bactrim for acne for only 3 weeks. I was hospitalized for over a month. After multiple painful procedures and a lung biopsy later, I responded to prednisone. I was one of the lucky ones. There is a reason why the FDA updated the label for this drug with this specific warning since otherwise healthy kids my age have had the same reaction, and some have passed away as a result."

"I've been taking this medication for my acne for less than a month, and all the dark marks and pimples I had on my face are about 90% gone. This medicine is amazing. I take one pill twice a day, the only drawback is the symptoms. I have nausea like never before, loss of appetite, and dizzy spells. The symptoms for me are incredibly strong, but I put up with it because I've tried Epiduo, Retin-A, Proactiv, Neutrogena, doxycycline, clindamycin, but all were way too harsh on my skin or ineffective. Clean and Clear acne wash with aloe vera has worked the absolute best along with this medication. I would definitely recommend it to someone looking to get rid of acne quickly and completely."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I took Bactrim for my cystic acne for the first time a few days ago. Took my first dose a few hours before bed and started to notice my tongue and mouth going numb. I took 2 Benadryl to soothe the symptoms. The next morning, I called both my pharmacist and doctor, and they told me that it was definitely an allergic reaction. Fast forward a few days later, my mouth has the same symptoms as if I burned my mouth on something scalding hot! My tongue has an entire layer 'burned' off, as well as my inner left cheek, with blisters inside my mouth. Needless to say, I’m definitely allergic to this medication. They then prescribed me minocycline, but I’m very afraid to even attempt to try it after this experience!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Had acne forever, went through Accutane, which cleared it up for a good 2 years, and the acne came back. Went back to the dermatologist and was prescribed Bactrim. It didn't start working till a few weeks in, but after that, I started noticing my face getting clearer. Unfortunately, taking Bactrim for a long time isn't good for you, so here I am starting back at square one, but it was the best few months I've had in a while."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I was suffering from acne since childhood. I tried Accutane, but it didn't work for me. I tried any kind of drugs and creams prescribed by a dermatologist, but nothing works. Recently, I went to one dermatologist at a hospital-based clinic, and she prescribed me Bactrim DS. I took it for a week, and suddenly I just felt terrible. I had a severe fever and chills, and after two days, I noticed the rash all over my body. I thought it was measles. But, ouch! Tachycardia, dehydration for just a week. When I visited my dermatologist, she said it was a Bactrim allergy. The bad thing is she had to send me to the emergency room. I was so happy at first because Bactrim cleared my acne in just a week, but in the end, it’s a horrible feeling that I almost died."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I'm 18 years old and have had terrible acne for almost five years. I tried every possible thing before being put on Bactrim. I have been on this medicine for a little less than a year. After trying every other medicine my primary doctor could prescribe, she gave me this, and it worked so well. I've never had a problem with side effects. I highly recommend this medicine if you haven't had luck finding a solution to getting rid of your acne."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Bactrim DS works for me. I had cystic acne all over my face and body, it was so scary. I only worked and stayed in the house, but as soon as I stopped taking this medicine, I got acne back all on my face."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Never had a whole lot of acne through high school until I jumped on steroids (deca/sustanon). I got moderate-severe cystic acne after about 6 weeks and had it for about 3-4 months and finally got put on Bactrim DS. It did wonders, went through 3 bottles and was back to normal. I kept the 4th bottle for precautionary reasons, no acne came back."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "I was put on Bactrim DS twice a day for about 6 weeks. This was after being on doxycycline for about 4 months with disappointing results. My acne was cystic and mainly distributed across my back, neck, shoulders, and chest. This outbreak of acne started some time after I stopped hormonal oral BC and switched to Paragard. It also coincided with the start of treatment with lithium for bipolar disorder. The latter can exacerbate acne in those that are susceptible. Despite quitting it, the disaster continued. My derm put me on Bactrim DS twice a day for 6 weeks, and to my amazement - this finally did the trick. My skin completely cleared! Highly recommended. No side effects, but I took a probiotic with it. My skin has stayed mostly clear since."

"My daughter started having acne in 5th grade. She had small-sized acne on her back, upper arms, and face. She was prescribed a topical Retin A lotion and a topical antibiotic. This combination worked until she was in 8th grade, when her acne became more severe. She would not use her other meds sometimes because she said it wasn't working. During her routine physical, she was prescribed this medicine and started to take it the same day. We saw improvement within the first 3 or 4 days. She's been taking it for just short of a month, and the results for her are nothing short of a miracle. She still has some redness as her acne subsides, but her skin is no longer 'angry,' and the tone is improving each day. What a great way to start high school!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "This works wonders for my skin! My dermatologist recommended it after I cycled through a few other medications and topicals to no avail (never did Accutane, though). I've been frustrated with my skin for years, and although birth control definitely helped, I was still breaking out on a fairly regular basis. Once I started this medication, the results were almost immediate. Within a week, my skin was looking smooth and much less spotty. I very rarely get pimples while on this stuff, although blackheads are still a minor issue. Nothing a little makeup can't fix. So happy that this works so well for me!"

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "This medication did work, but unfortunately, after only one week, I was one of the unlucky few who found out they were allergic. I broke out in a rash all over my body. I stopped immediately. It sucks because it was making my skin kind of glowy. But it's not worth it if you're allergic. If you're not, then it would probably be perfect."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Two weeks into my twice-daily Bactrim RX, and suddenly I felt like if I did not lie down, I would FALL down (EXTREME exhaustion feeling out of nowhere). Then I noticed I had a fever. I slept all morning and most of the afternoon. Woke feeling fine... UNTIL that evening, when once again I felt like if I did not lie down, that I would FALL down. And, once again, a fever. I went to bed very early, slept until morning. The next morning, I woke feeling much better. Figured I was coming down with something and gosh, at least I'm on an antibiotic. BUT shortly after taking the morning Bactrim, I had the exhaustion/fever slam me again. That is when the lightbulb finally went on that this was BACTRIM doing this to me. As I lay there shivering, I noticed my lip starting to itch. I discontinued the Bactrim and did well. = Allergy to Bactrim/Sulfa drugs."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "Works quite well for me. I have been on every med ever and even Accutane 3 times with no success. I have severe acne and simultaneous all-over skin infection. 2 things - dairy of any kind sets it off, and it's so much worse. Avoid dairy like the plague. 2 - depends on how your skin is infected. My skin gets affected very often with staph, and so Bactrim and Keflex work really well. For people with p. Aches bacteria, erythromycin is awesome. But the sad fact is that over time it won't work as bacteria become resistant. I am seeing an endocrinologist to find out what foods I am eating that seem to cause my body to make excess hormones and attack my skin. Best of luck, all! Don't know what I'll do once I'm off Bactrim. I feel great and zero side effects."

"This combination of antibiotics changed my life. Amazing is an understatement. It's not good for your liver to take it for more than 6 months continuously. So I've been on and off of it for 4 years now. It's the only antibiotic that cleared my face from acne. It changed my life. I hope it does the same for you."

"I've been on this med for 2 weeks so far and will be continuing for about a month. I have some bacterial acne since the birth of my second child :( and I couldn't handle it anymore! I feel so bad for all the people with bad experiences, but I have to say I've had none. I take the full dose twice a day. I have had a wee headache a few times, but nothing an Advil didn't cure, so I guess use at your own risk? But working great for me personally."

"I'm 18, and I've had acne since I was 13. I have had various different treatments, starting with the cream Duac. Then, when I needed my prescription renewed, they said the demand was too high, so I couldn't use it anymore, but they prescribed me Epi-Duo. I was severely allergic, with rashes all over my back, face, and chest. This is when they put me on Tetrysal/Lymecycline (sorry about the spelling), and I was on that for 18 months. Then that stopped working. I went to go and see another dermatologist, where they prescribed me doxycycline, so I tried that. No luck, so they have now prescribed me this (3 tablets twice a day), and I just started them yesterday. I hope they work, as it has severely affected my self-esteem."

Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim "My dermatologist tried three other drugs for me for my acne. This one, Bactrim, was by far the best. After one month, my acne looked even worse. However, I called my doc, and he stated that it is normal. After three other medicines, I thought, why not keep going? Well, after about another month and a half, I had clear skin. Just taking it daily, I get maybe one or two zits per month. I used to have cystic acne and have a lot of scarring, unfortunately. I wish I could have found out about this drug sooner. At least give it a try, I mean, what do you have to lose? My doc tried to tell me to stop, so I did for three months. My acne returned very badly, however, this time, right after one week of getting back on it, I was totally cured again. I am 25 years old and have been using this since I was 19. Eventually, I may be able to stop taking it, but I don’t mind the twelve dollars a month for so much more confidence!"

"My face was horribly broken out and covered in acne for the last five years along with painful cysts since I was 15. I'm 23, and I've tried every face wash, lotion, etc. Finally, my doctor gave me this prescription, and I haven't had a cyst or a single pimple since. I've been on this medicine for two years now, and I love it. Only drawback is I'm always insanely thirsty on it no matter how much I drink, and some nausea as well."
