For Stomach Ulcer "I suffer from anxiety, and have been having stomach issues for like 8 months. Went to the GI they wanted to perform an endoscopy but I'm 9 weeks pregnant which make things even worst. I have bad upper stomach pain, really bad burning on stomach and chest. I had to come off my antacid because I'm doing a breath test to test for h pylori. So my GI prescribed carafate 1mg. 4x a day, took my first dose at 11pm, fell asleep like around 12:30am. Woke up at 2am feeling really nauseas, back pain, really bad tummy ache, headache, and this went on for like 4 more hours, and to make things worst it got me anxious.. calling my doctor today, not happy with the side effects plus I'm feeling really weak. Don't know if I should keep taking it."

For Duodenal Ulcer "I have been on Carafate for almost 6 weeks for an ulcer. It has not helped me at all. I still have the extreme abdominal pain all night long. I was check for H pylori and it was negative. I had all kinds of ultrasounds done and they all came back fine. I was also given Dexilant to take. I take the Carafate 4 times a day and no luck for me. I am seeing another doctor today. It just is not working for me. And as others said, it does make you consipated for sure. I wish it worked for me like some of the others, but it is not."

For Duodenal Ulcer "I have both an ulcer in my stomach as well as duodenitis (two ulcers in the upper part of my small intestine)--this was all discovered during my endoscopy. I was given this medication and am still on it...immediately I had dry mouth, mild headaches and that dizzy/vertigo feeling which I just thought were my sinuses acting up until I looked up the side effects. It's changed my bowel motions for sure, more towards constipation which then causes an upset stomach for me, mainly in the morning."

For Stomach Ulcer "This is a great medication for ulcer pain. But there is one major side effect that is intolerable, constipation. After using it for two days my stool was so hard that it took 2 Fleet water enema's and a mineral oil enema just to get the stool down. "

For Duodenal Ulcer "I have had pains in my upper abdomen at the center right edge of my ribs, the pain radiates into my back and we are looking to find why. An endoscopy found a little ulcer so they did a biopsy just in case and we are also doing other tests. Anyway I was prescribed Carafate Suspension and it causes intense diarrhea."

For GERD "the most frustrating experience of my life trying to buy this medicine one month supply of pills $4.00 one month of suspension $526.99 Amazing right! The Dr. recommended the suspension but simply cannot afford it. I have been told so many things it is a nightmare. I have gerd but unable to afford suspension and no one offers any help. I had to take pills financially and will continue taking with hope they will work. I make a suspension 4 times a day and drink it"

For GERD " I have Acid reflux after gallbladder removal. I tried the Carafate suspension and it made me vomit. The pills appear to be working but I still take Zantac. My pharmacist told me to dissolve tablet in in 1/4 cup of water for 15 mins."

For Duodenal Ulcer "Amazingly good results with the Carafate liquid. I was BLESSED to find an MD who actually listened to me both as an inpatient and subsequently an office patient. He has continued my liquid. I have to say I wish the price was lower BUT if I have to choose between paying more and suffering less, I'll figure out how to pay more."

For Stomach Ulcer "Sucralfate was prescribed for my stomach ulcer! I took it (1 go) 4 times a day! First pill taken almost chocked me to death! You should split the pill and in a small cup add a small amount of warm water, dissolve the pill, add a small amount more of water and swallow it. I doesn’t taste bad! After 4 treatments, during the night my lower back pain and thigh muscles were excruciating!"

For Stomach Ulcer "I had an (undiagnosed) bleeding ulcer (from gastric bypass surgery). Doctor prescribed the liquid form, but $500 for the liquid?? The pharmacist kindly told the pill form is $4. Ugh, I hate this stuff! I am supposed to take it 4 times a day, but it starts dissolving the moment it hits the back of my throat... Its like tasting nasty sand! The coughing fits almost get painful, and then it feels like it i'explodes' in my stomach- so I can forget eating for the next 3-4 hours. Ugh. Seems I have a choice (my 'pouch' is still very small 5 months out), take this OR have room for hydration OR food, not all of the above, am asking my doc tomorrow about it..."

For Stomach Ulcer "I was prescribed this with protonix after having intense pain from gastritis. I can't really tell if it's helping. My doctor said the stomach lining is something that takes a while to heal so I guess I will just have to wait and see. I am going back 2 weeks after starting carafate. My stomach hasn't had any major flare ups but some days it definitely hurts and I think I'm having some intense back pain because of the carafate. I've been trying not to take too much advil but I can't even sleep because of the back pain."

For GERD "Okay at first then I started to noticed some side effects from Carafate. I am a young adult who started taking this after being hospitalized for swallowing difficulties. My main issue now is Gastroparesis. I noticed taking this medication is increased my lack of appetite and nausea it also made it hard to swallow? I haven’t taken this medication in about a month my appetite is back but my throat spasms are back also. This medication helped with the esophagus spasms I was having that’s about all it helped with I will ask my doctor to put me on other medication. I had the liquid suspension and also the pill I crushed the pill up and made a slurry."

"I came down with severe stomach gastritis ten years ago. TEVA Sucralfate was a miracle drug for me. 90% cured and only had symptoms when my stomach emptied out about 4am each morning. Take a pill and instant relief of pain. HOWEVER, last Fall I was given the Greenstone version of this medicine, and it not only failed to ease up my stomach and alleviate pain, it had the opposite affect. The formula is different. So my gastritis has come back with a vengeance. And an internet article says Greenstone is changing its pink pill to a white to be stamped TEVA! I now have some new TEVA pills and they also do not work the way the old TEVA pills worked for ten years. So now I have severe gastritis again and I am living off Pepto Bismol and antacids and some herbal stuff I just started taking."

For Stomach Ulcer "Late last year , I went to my doctor because I was having mild stomach pains, little to no appetite, and (the worst and most concerning one for me), completely randomly feeling like I was going to vomit; to the point where I actually had to go to the bathroom or outside, but never did. (Might just be because I have a strong stomach that I didn’t?). And then right after that passed, I would feel extremely hungry- stomach growling and hunger pains. But still no appetite. That was very concerning to me considering I very rarely vomit for any reason. So anyway, I went to the doctor and he told me I had most of the symptoms of an ulcer and he was sure that’s what it was. He prescribed me this medication. I never had any tests or anything done to see inside my stomach or anything though. But I took it as prescribed, and the symptoms went away for a few days but then came back. And now it keeps coming back. Seeing the doctor soon and going to ask for a different medication."

For GERD "I had reflux all day even though taking omeprazole daily for 20 years or more. I had my gallbladder removed about 15 years ago. After starting on Carafate as a slurry 4 times a day it was like a miracle - no reflux at all. I also removed caffeine, chocolate, and acidic juices. I am now making the slurry in my mouth - pop in tablet, slurp of water and swish about until tablet dissolves, then swallow slurry and a few more sips of water. The tablet has no taste. I have no side effects. I give this drug 10/10."

For GERD "I have been diagnosed with extreme acid reflux (more to come later on), Approximately 1 1/2 years ago my bad acid went out of control and started to come up in my mouth walking/sitting/laying down. I went to see my gastroenterologist and he sent me off to see a surgeon. The surgeon says I need a operation that amounts to be a gastric bypass. I did not like the diagnosis, About that time my gastroenterologist decided to drop all his medicare patients. I went to another hospital/gastro guy and he wanted me to stop all my ant-acid meds (2 ACIPHEX 2 RANITIDINE and 2 Omeprazole) for a week, After one days I was asking him to allow me to stay on For some reason the site is not allowing me to enter more details."

For Duodenal Ulcer "I had a stomach ulcer perforation on 2/22/22. Carafate helped me so much that my endoscopy showed a fully healed ulcer within months. Now, when I feel the same stabbing pains, this medicine along with Protonix is my go-to tool to fix my issues. I’m so thankful to have found this medicine because I never want to experience the pain of a hole in my stomach again. I use it as soon as I get up in the morning around 5:30 am (so that it’s on an empty stomach), ground into a powder mixed with a little unsweetened applesauce at the advice of my doctor, then an hour later I allow myself to eat or take other meds. In the afternoon I stop eating at 2:30 pm and take it the same way at 5:30 pm. This schedule feels like the most effective one for me (and I hope it can help you!) GoodRx helps me as I’m out of pocket."

"72-year-old male. About 10 years ago, an upper GI disclosed erosive gastritis, possibly caused by a genetic tendency to excess acid production plus NSAID use. As a result, I am prone to gastritis flare-ups notwithstanding a healthy lifestyle (exercise 6 days a week, 6' 160lbs) and a healthy diet. This helps me, but takes a while. Also, a pain because my prescription calls for 4 times a day and you are supposed to wait at least 2 hours after food and 1 hour prior to food to take it. With my workout program, I need to eat lots of food and finding enough three-hour windows is a struggle. I have had no side effects. I agree with comments about not swallowing the pill whole. Don't do that, dissolve it in a small amount of water, which takes about 10 minutes, then swallow the solution. The taste is a little blah but bearable."

For Stomach Ulcer "I was given Carafate and also Omeprazole for a pepcid ulcer. I had been to the ER 2 times previously with undiagnosed severe pain and was unable to eat or drink. I went to a different ER and was given Carafate. It helped from the first dose and took away the pain, and I could eat and drink small amounts again. It has worked for me!"

For Stomach Ulcer "Doctor prescribed carafate. 4 x a day. Works well if I take it at night and in the morning but if I take the two day doses I spend the day in bed. Nauseous and it destroys my appetite. Seems to make the burning stomach worse. Suffering with gastritis for 6 months now. Can’t find relief. Also on protonix and Tagamet. Bland diet when I can eat. Just seeking relief. It has made me really constipated as well. Will continue with the two doses but can’t handle all 4."

For Stomach Ulcer "I’ve been on this for 2.5 weeks now. It is completely hit & miss. Some days it helps, other days it’s as if I didn’t take it. I take it one hour before meals. It has made me a bit constipated. This can be easily fixed by taking 750 mg of magnesium before going to sleep. Overall, it’s not worked fantastic for me, unfortunately."
