For Constipation "I had been suffering with constipation for about 4 days when my husband suggested taking Senokot, which worked for him. I took two tablets on the night of day 4, and on day 5-nothing happened... I took two tablets on the night of day 6. Nothing happened until about 8 am, and all hell broke loose. I've had the squirts for 24 hours with no sign of it stopping. Jesus, Mary, and the wee donkey, I'm certain my bowels are on fire. Pros: I'm no longer constipated, I've lost 3 lbs on the scales, I've learned how to sprint, haven't had to leave the house for fear of straying too far from a toilet. Cons: I haven't been able to put any faith in a fart in 24 hours, I've run out of Sudocrem for the ring sting, I'm like a shriveled-up prune, I'm afraid to take a pain reliever for the cramps in case they are the only warning shot before the onslaught of liquid fire from the depths of hell."

For Constipation "Normally, I go at least once per day. This can slip due to circumstances or break with routine. Long distance travel is a prime culprit. I have found if I do not go at least once per day, it compounds the problem. If I find I cannot go by bedtime, I know there is a problem brewing. I know this because, as hard as you try, there is nothing there. So, I take a Senokot. I usually follow this up with sultanas and high bran cereal. It does the trick. I then review how much I have drunk and my food and adjust it accordingly. Sometimes, you can get a little colicky pain, but it passes as soon as you go. Never take it habitually, only as a last resort."

For Constipation "I am a 20 y/o student, and recently I was having a hard time going to the restroom. One of my mother's friends recommended this medication, and at first I was hesitant, but it is the best thing that ever happened to me. When I can't go or I am bloated, I take it, and it either works 24 hrs from the time taken or 2-3 hrs after. I love this, highly recommended!"

For Constipation "I've used the pills from time to time when I feel a little bloated or bunged up. Take them at least 8 hours before you want to get up for work (you'd be crazy to take any laxative before the start of a full-on work shift)."

For Constipation "I had leg surgery last week, and the morphine from the pain relief gave me rather severe constipation - it was the worst feeling. I was sore sitting down that I was crying and depressed. I tried prunes and Fybogel - but no movement. I couldn't bear it. I took 2 Senokot 2 nights ago before bed - nothing. I took another 2 after 12 hours. About 2 hours later, I had a rather painful hard bowel movement. A couple of hours later, I had crippling stomach cramps - which led to a further 2 bowel movements, each getting softer (but no diarrhea). I had another before bed that night - back to my normal consistency, then another on waking this morning. I am delighted. Was it a pleasant experience? No. Would I do it again? Absolutely!"

For Constipation "I have taken Senokot for about 4 years, a couple of times a month. Now I have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and suffer serious constipation. I take 2 before bed, and other than a little cramping, bowel movement passes as if normal and no other side effects. I tried Dulcolax just to see the difference, and it was the worst experience of my life. I would definitely stay with Senokot from now on."

For Constipation "This worked so well for me that I was driven to write a review, which I never do! I had constipation issues for 3 days, took this last night, and today I wasn’t even in pain from it as I had worried, I just had the slight urge to go - and it was so easy. Thank you!!!!"

For Constipation "I had constipation for 2 days because of the lack of fiber. I took Senokot syrup in the night hoping for some sort of bowel movement like diarrhea. But I felt nothing. When I went to the toilet, however, I was able to poop, and most of it had cleared, and it was soft, but I had to push out more, and it wasn’t as natural as I would’ve liked it. But it’s most likely because I have bowel problems anyway. So results are varied."

For Constipation "Took one dose and nothing. Took second dose, and that’s when the headache and cramps, and the stomach gurgles started. It sure cleared the pipes, but wow, liquid fire from within, and lived in my bathroom for a day. I was tempted to just sleep on my bathroom floor to make it easier. Once I thought nothing more could possibly come out, a new wave would hit. Can’t even eat crackers or it goes right through."

For Constipation "You HAVE to take this medication with a lot of water. I'm talking 2-3 glasses, otherwise, you are likely to have major side effects. I have chronic constipation and often don't go to the bathroom for 10 days at a time. When I first started using this, the cramps were so bad I almost fainted on the toilet. Now that I know to drink lots of water with it, the cramps still come on when my body is ready to evacuate, but I am able to go to the bathroom right away, and then it's over with. This is the only medication I've ever used that always works for me.. and I've tried everything!"

For Constipation "Took two one day, then 2 more 36 hours later. Did not help much with my constipation. Also, very bad leg cramp during the night. Also, cramp in my left arm, which went down to my fingertips. I have not experienced such painful cramp before, so will not take these tablets again."

For Constipation "After many surgeries and also having IBS-C, I have used Miralax for over 10 years. I'm tired of the powder and mixing, and traveling with it is a pain, so I tried Senokot. I took 1 pill at bedtime and had a BM the next afternoon. I plan on taking 1 pill every night this week to see how it goes and then try every other night after that. I had no pain and very little cramping, and with Miralax, I usually have pain and cramping, so it was nothing unusual to me to have some cramping. So far, I recommend taking it, but I suggest you start with 1 pill and see how it affects you."

For Constipation "I am 7 days post-op from a hysterectomy, and the pain meds I’m on have caused constipation. I took 2 of the Senokot-S (stool softener + laxative) at the request of my doctor. 7 hours after taking the pills, I started getting sharp and severe cramps in waves. Gradually, they became more intense, more severe, and more frequent. This lasted for 6 full hours. I had 2 small BMs during this time. Finally, the cramping became so severe and there was no break between waves of pain that it had me comparing it to childbirth and kidney stones, it was damn close to both. At that point, I had an explosion of diarrhea - multiple times in the span of 5-7 minutes. This was approximately 13 hours after taking the pills. I was able to get some relief at that point from the cramping, but the bowels are still having spasms 24 hours later and expelling gas. Is this medication effective? Absolutely - it will 100% empty your bowels, but it is a HORRIBLE way to go. Don’t do it."

"After all the horrible reviews here, I never would have tried Senokot if I had read them first! However, I have had the opposite experience, they don't work for me at all. Nothing happens. Nada. I tried 2 tablets before bed, and I passed a tiny stool in the morning. The next time I used them, I took 4. Again, I took them before bed, and the following day, 14 hours later, I passed a minuscule stool. I had been using Dulcolax, but they are quite strong for me, and you wouldn't want to be far from a toilet for the entire day, and I found myself quite drained of energy, but at least they did the job. Won't be using Senokot again."

For Bowel Preparation "Dehydration can cause constipation. So if you're dehydrated and then take a laxative, it WILL cause cramping. You got to keep in mind, in order for laxatives to work, it has to pull fluid from your body in order to soften your stool. That's the reason your poo is watery. Dehydration alone causes leg cramps and dizziness. So, making sure you drink plenty of water before and after taking a laxative. I would highly recommend it. It will help with preventing and easing bad side effects."

For Constipation "This works like a charm. I feel really bad for those who it doesn't work for or causes extreme pain. Seems those of us who suffer from chronic constipation, it really works well. I never have pain, works quick, and clears everything right out. I never have any pain while using this product, however, I do have to go to the bathroom 5-6 times after using it for the next few hours. But when I take this, it's because I really need it. So, I love it."

For Constipation "It’s hit or miss. Usually 2 regular strength will cause something in 24 hours. No cramps, no feeling of movement, just a sudden urge to go. It’ll be large and hard. One poop, no follow-ups, no diarrhea. Currently I’m on 30ml of lactulose twice daily, and Senokot every 3rd day to get it out. The lactulose doesn’t do anything but make my every third day poop not as hard as a rock."

For Constipation "This product works really well. I almost never get constipated, but I have quit smoking, and I was having this side effect. I had tried Dulcolax before, and it was a terrible experience with terrible cramps and urgent diarrhea. This medication was recommended by a friend. I was hesitant to try it, but I was very uncomfortable and desperate. I also had hemorrhoids due to the constipation that were healing, and I was scared they would return. I took 2 pills at 9 p.m., and at 4:30 a.m., I woke up to have a BM. The first one was normal, and I had to go about 4 times afterward, and it was diarrhea. I didn't have any cramping or discomfort. I just needed to be near a washroom for about 2 hours after it started working. I feel so much better now. No more bloating, the BMs didn't hurt my hemorrhoids, and I feel like myself again."

For Constipation "I took two at 8 pm and then the next morning... nothing at all happened, just a few stomach grumbles. I think I may have to increase the dosage today, as it didn't work. I've had laxatives that work in 8 hours, really quick and really effective with 1/2 pills. However, this one you need to slowly build up the intake of tablets every day -.- which is a bother."

For Constipation "Was constipated for a few days, so took 2 Senokot, and nothing, so, 2 more a few hours later, still nothing. In desperation, took 2 more. This worked finally, with not too much pain, BUT now have had stomach tremors for the last few days, to the point of I've resorted to heat packs, etc. After doing research, have discovered this can be one of the rare side effects. Just an awful feeling, so never again will I take these."

For Constipation "I took 1 tablet before bed for constipation as advised by a pharmacist (I’d had diarrhea on Saturday, then hadn’t been at all for 5 days - usually I’m every 2-3 days). The Senokot made me have a bowel movement the next day, around 14 hours after I had 1 tablet. Then I went again a couple of hours later. I started to feel quite sick at this point, really uneasy stomach, not much of an appetite. I still ate lunch and snacks as normal and didn’t feel like I needed to be sick - just crazy nausea. Then a few hours later, I went again, but it was more like diarrhea - then I felt VERY sick. I had to go to a pharmacy again for nausea relief (I was taking a flight to go on holiday, so I wasn’t going to wait for it to pass naturally!) - she gave me Pepto Bismol in liquid form instead of tablets - it worked like a dream and I’ve felt fine ever since. ADVICE: If you get the nausea (it was really bad) - definitely get Pepto Bismol to counteract it! So worth it."

For Constipation "For the second time in a few months, I'm getting hives an hour or so after taking this medication. The first time around, they were really bad. The second time, as soon as I got the itching and a few hives, I took an antihistamine that helped with the hives."

For Constipation "Senokot is an unpredictable laxative. I take pain pills for chronic pain. For years, I took magnesium oxide, which worked like a charm. However, I had to keep adjusting the dose, and it finally stopped working altogether. After trying other laxatives unsuccessfully, I tried Senokot. Began with 2 pills: nothing. 3 pills: nothing. I finally took 4 pills, and the next day, excruciating cramps & went 4 times. Stools were not soft, and I had to strain despite taking stool softeners (these have never worked alone, but I read that taken with Senokot helped). At my wit's end because nothing aside from enemas works. I eat prunes, plenty of fruit, dried figs, & tons of vegetables. I can't take the cramping side effect, which I never had with magnesium oxide."

For Constipation "I had a bit of constipation, and it was getting uncomfortable, so I decided to take 2 Senokot. I probably should not have taken 2, as the next day I couldn't keep off the toilet, and by the second day I had to take Imodium, which is the opposite, because I kept having diarrhea, and it seems to be making me feel really lightheaded. I drank lots of water. It definitely relieves constipation, but way too much! So if you are severely constipated, it's worth a go."
