For Atrial Fibrillation "I was started on Xarelto because of Afib. After some time, besides the bruising, the red urine, which my cardiologist dismissed as not relevant, I noticed the decreasing effect of my seizure medications. I couldn't understand why until I was told about the interaction. I stopped Xarelto."

For Pulmonary Embolism "My embolisms were discovered on November 1. I was put on Warfarin, but it was hard to get my blood to regulate, and I didn't like the blood work. I began Xarelto on December 7, 2012. I have had success, and my doctors are very pleased. No new embolisms have formed. I did have upper stomach pain this week, but I also suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. Today, I feel fine. I have not had any bleeding or bruising."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I'm a 50 yr old female who is still menstruating. I started this drug in the hospital, and my cycle went from 3-5 days to up to 9 days then stopped. This month, I am on day 15 of an incredibly heavy cycle. I wear two extra long overnight pads (which should last 10 hours), and I go through them in less than 2 hours. I started this drug after a mild stroke that seems to have been a by-product of A-fib. I didn't want Coumadin (aka Rat Poison) and thought out of the 3 two-year-old medicines left, this seemed to be the best for my active lifestyle. It is not. The bleeding is so heavy, I am exhausted. Pains in my feet and ankles, back pains, neck pains, and migraine-like headaches on the opposite side of my stroke-affected side. Help!"

For Pulmonary Embolism "Never had a PE, but I became sedentary, sitting for hours working on my laptop. I also stopped drinking lots of water. The only reason the hospital found for my saddle PE was long hours of sitting & reduced water intake. Water keeps blood flowing; so does exercise. I passed out & woke up with sweating, nausea, couldn't breathe; then my heart went into a-fib. The ER did a CT scan & found a 6-inch clot! Took Xarelto 15 mg. twice daily, then 20 mg. once daily. My awesome hematologist ordered a battery of 19 separate blood tests after I'd been on Xa for 6 months. With good test results & no further clots, dosage reduced to 10 mg. once daily. Side effects: hair loss (I had thick, long hair; over 60% now gone), bizarre dreams, muscle twinges, headaches, dizziness, increased skin/nerve sensitivity & bruising, tiredness, extreme weight gain. I barely eat 2 meals daily, but gained 40 lbs. since taking Xarelto! I hope to be weaned from this drug, but I know God & Xarelto saved my life!"

For Atrial Fibrillation "In my case, I believe that Xarelto keeps any injury from healing in a timely manner. A scratch that would normally disappear in a week or two lasts months for healing. It worries me, even though several doctors from different specialties have said there is no connection here."

For Atrial Fibrillation "After being on Coumadin for 1 year, I thought I was going to go crazy with all the annoying phone calls from the office about blood testing. The doctor kept telling me the tests are necessary to prevent me from bleeding out or having another stroke. I said isn't there something different, and he referred me to talk to my PCP, who recommended Xarelto, and it has changed my life for the better. I never felt so good, and I never have to worry about blood tests or diet. Needless to say, that doctor is no longer my doctor."

For Atrial Fibrillation "In 2010, I had a successful ablation to correct Afib. About two years ago, my cardiologist retired, and I went to a new doctor. About a year ago, he suggested I go on Xarelto as a precaution against a possible reoccurrence of Afib. Since being on Xarelto, I have experienced constant back, leg, knee, and other body pain. My doctor is adamant that I stay on this terrible drug."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "DVT in ankle, then again in the other ankle, then one in the knee. Tried Warfarin with many headaches, stopped on my own due to the side effect. That's how the DVT came back. Went to Coumadin, and the difference was Coumadin gave me a consistent test result. Still the headaches almost daily. From minimal to taking 800 mg of ibuprofen just to get rid of the pain. Already allergic to peanuts, then restricted by medicine with no greens or cranberry. Really tough to find a good meal. Begged my doctor for a prescription before it was approved for DVT, and that could be part of my positive reaction. Now on Xarelto for 2 years, headaches once in a while - maybe due to medicine but not consistent enough to believe. Eat anything and everything."

For Atrial Fibrillation "Xarelto is very effective in providing an anticoagulant effect. For me, that resulted in almost uncontrollable nosebleeds (up to 14 hours) and 3-5 hours for very minor skin scratches. But the worst outcomes were the side effects: consistent headaches; severe shortness of breath; depression; bad mood (extremely grouchy); stomach aches; and constipation. I do not recommend this medicine to anyone. Warfarin ($6.00/month) is easy to manage, and it has almost NO side effects."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Was placed on Xarelto 15 mg twice a day for my pulmonary embolism on 7/30/2013. The one thing that no one informed me about was how it was going to change my menstrual flow. It was so heavy that I began to get concerned as I was soaking an overnight pad every two hours. Try going to work with that business happening and trying to be productive. It is a good thing that the first time I went through it, I was still on leave from the initial hospitalization."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I am a 39-year-old woman with a history of DVT who switched from warfarin to Xarelto. Shortly after starting the medicine, I began to experience migraines for the first time. After two weeks of being on it, I began my menstrual period as scheduled. The period was severe bleeding for 6 days straight. At that point, I went to the ER. I ended up with several blood transfusions that were not helping, my hemoglobin was dropping to dangerous levels. The only thing to be done was an emergency uterine ablation. I believe that blood levels do actually need to be monitored. My blood was so thin I was not clotting."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Lots of people focus only on the negative of being on a blood thinner. If it wasn't for Xarelto, I would most likely have been dead. I can't take warfarin, I had a bleed on that. I've had no clots since being on Xarelto. Been on it, 20 mg a day for over two years. Thanks for giving me an alternative blood thinner. You most likely saved my life and definitely increased my lifespan."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I love this medicine. My sister had a pulmonary embolism and had to take Coumadin, with shots and weekly blood tests. After my P.E., I take Xarelto and have for 5 months. No issues. If I get a cut, it clots just fine. No doctor visits. No blood tests. A miracle for thrombosis."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "This is my second DVT in 5 years. I'm only 26, and it's from a genetic disorder. I took warfarin the first time around, and her doctor gave me Xarelto this time. I was thrilled due to no strict diet, constant finger pricks, etc. However, from day 1 of Xarelto, I had horrible headaches that I could not get rid of. I took my dose with dinner, and if we had a late dinner, after 7, I would get vivid dreams that left me exhausted in the morning. It caused two ocular migraines, which I have never had, which scared me because I thought I was going blind! I was also hallucinating at all times of the day. I'm back on warfarin now, all side effects have stopped! Loved the promise of Xarelto, but believe it needs more testing!"

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was feeling a sharp right calf pain for about three days and thought it may be a Charlie horse. Decided to go to the ER and bam! DVT. Huge clot but below the knee. Was admitted for two days, heart rate went down to 38, close calls, but thank God I am here. Have been on Xarelto for 8 days now and not one side effect. Just hope it gets me through and helps my body dissolve the clot ASAP. Xarelto works for me."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "This drug sent me insane. Recently had DVT in arm. 1st tablet caused burning nerves in face and spine, rushed to A&E, who were dumbfounded. Within 1 week, I was pacing the house all night. Heart racing severely. Anxiety out of control (never suffered from anxiety). Week 2, lips and mouth burning. Anxiety and heart rate worse. Week 3, pacing house 16 hours a day, paranoia, intense pressure in head, muscle spasms, unable to close eyes. Nerves on skin. Reduced dose didn't help improve situation. Eventually, the doctor switched me to Eliquis, which I'm absolutely fine on. I believe this drug is okay for a lot of people, however, if you have a reaction, it's severe. Lost over a stone in 3 weeks, hyperventilated daily, my behavior and personality changed dramatically. Within 48 hours on Eliquis, all symptoms ceased. I'll be reporting this drug, as having done some research, I've found it can cause anxiety, paranoia, and muscle spasms, which are not listed in the literature."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was prescribed Xarelto when a blood clot developed after surgery for my broken leg. I did not notice any immediate side effects until... I normally have 3-day, semi-light periods, and they went to 7-9 days of the worst ever. I won't go into detail. It also caused my iron level to drop to 17! I stayed on Xarelto for 6 months, and it worked for me. I was told Xarelto won't dissolve your clot, it just thins your blood enough to prevent the clot from growing or new clots. The existing clot is absorbed into the body. I think my hair was falling out also, but that may have been from the low iron?"

For Atrial Fibrillation "Apparently helps my a-fib, but causes bad bruising and bleeding from minor wounds. I also have bad heartburn and take antacid frequently. This happens while I'm eating, after, and also when my stomach is empty. A friend who tried Xarelto had the same problem, which makes me think it's from the medicine, or at least it made it worse. This causes me lots of pain and discomfort, but I don't know if another blood thinner would be the same."

For Atrial Fibrillation "While on Xarelto, I experienced a stroke, partial loss of vision. I have atrial fibrillation. Initially, a few years ago, I was put on Coumadin. That was a hassle. Then, I was very glad when Pradaxa came out and it was prescribed. But it caused such stomach pain. I was then put on Xarelto. I took it faithfully as prescribed. I had no discomfort or side effects, but then, in December of 2016, I had the stroke. Now I am on Eliquis."

For Atrial Fibrillation "74 yr. old female. Have been on Xarelto, 20 mg, for approximately 1 year. For no reason I could discern, my knee swelled up and became very painful. Eventually, I could not walk and was in severe pain. I went via emergency transport to the local emergency room. The ER doctor diagnosed me with hemarthrosis, internal bleeding into the knee joint, caused by Xarelto!!! I was never warned about internal bleeding. The package insert only mentions external bleeding. Also, the bleed seems to have been spontaneous and not caused by any injury to the knee. Very scary! I am no longer taking any blood thinner/anticoagulant. Avoid this drug."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I was on Coumadin from 2008 to 2012 following a stroke, and it was very difficult to regulate with lots of bruising and constant visits to the doctor. Xarelto has given me my life back, and I feel GREAT! I've had zero problems with the drug, and no bruising or bleeding. I think I feel so much better and happier because I'm not constantly worried about my PT/INR level and what I'm eating."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Had DVT in my calf, had a couple of clots get stuck in my lung 2 weeks after starting Xarelto. Now, after 2 1/2 months on it, I get headaches, dizzy, lightheadedness, weakness in legs and arms, and tingling in arms and hands. I had to leave work today because I was so weak. Going to have doc take me off it."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was prescribed Xarelto for two months after I got a deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms, and it definitely worked as prescribed. I did bruise very easily, but that was a small price to pay to completely get rid of my DVT and show no signs of it three months later."

For Pulmonary Embolism "When I became ill over a year ago and developed blood clots in my lungs (P.E.), my doctor put me on XARELTO 20 MG. I have not developed any more blood clots, Xarelto took care of the blood clots. Occasionally, I do get some side effects: dizziness, shortness of breath, and aches, and a little bit of pain in my legs. I can overlook these, considering that Xarelto takes care of the blood clots in my lungs, so I'm still here, living a normal life, doing the things that I enjoy. All medications have side effects."

For Atrial Fibrillation "I have been on this drug for about 10 months. It seems to be causing some real issues both mentally and physically. I have a problem with localized pain in my shoulder, which I didn't injure. I have muscle pain in my legs and arms and muscle weakness. I used to enjoy my long walks, but now I don't have the energy or strength. I have bouts of severe itching over different parts of my body, i.e., scalp, arms, legs, abdomen, but no rash. I am also having bladder control problems. Some days I feel like I'm losing my sanity. Today is one of those days. I got up feeling like I've been run over by a truck. These days are much more frequent. I'm at the end of my rope. I'm going to speak to my doctor later today, but I have to come off this drug. My atrial fib is pretty well controlled with the drugs I've been taking, but my quality of life has nosedived with Xarelto. Can anyone relate?"
